I recently completed the four week bather & brusher course at Northern California Grooming Academy, and I could not have had a better experience. Every single staff member is so encouraging and supportive. You can feel the passion and love for dogs shared by every staff member and fellow student. It’s a beautiful community. The instructors are incredibly patient (truly, they often repeat themselves over and over for folks who are leaning) and share a wealth of skills and experience to help new groomers learn the fundamentals of bathing and brushing, which are essential to a quality groom. It’s easy to doubt yourself when you’re new to grooming, and everyone on staff shows up to meet you where you are and to keep you progressing toward your learning goals. I love that the school teaches to accommodate the needs of each animal, and to be curious about any challenges to see what the groomer can do differently to make the animal more comfortable, confident and happy with the experience. The school treats every pet with utmost respect, prioritizing the safety and well being of the furry clients and cleanliness of the grooming environment.As a school approved by International Professional Groomers, Inc., you can see the high quality of the curriculum. The content is thorough and informed by lived experience of groomers. The online portion covers key concepts you need to understand from tools and equipment, to sanitation and safety, to principles of ear cleaning, nail trimming, anal gland expression, bathing, drying, brushing and dematting, groomer health and ergonomics, and how to handle and interact with dogs respectfully. The hands on practice lets you apply the knowledge and gain confidence. The cost of the course is an investment that will pay off for anyone who wants to groom their pets more effectively at home or to work in the grooming industry, and is reasonable given the amount of information you gain and the one-on-one attention and hands on practice you receive. There is really no substitute for the practice and feedback you receive.I’m so grateful to everyone at Northern California Grooming Academy for giving so generously of themselves to make the experience so positive. I plan to return to complete the next courses, and truly cannot wait!

I decided to leave corporate world and start a pet grooming business. I had zero experience and didn’t know where to start but luckily stumbled across this amazing school.If you are looking to receive top of the line training and education then look no further than this academy. not only did they lecture you, but you get to receive hands-on training with their number one priority being the safety of the dog.. I took their bather course and loved it so much that I took the groomer course and I’m opening up my own business, my own Mobile business next month with 100% confidence that I am going to do the absolute best for my clients and their angel babies.Their final class is the advanced stylist program and I’ll be definitely taking in the future. Jackie and Jose are perfectionists to say the least, they are the best of the best. If I wasn’t opening my own business I’d travel from Fremont to San Jose to get my dogs groomed with them, without a doubt. If you’re shopping for the best program, you’ve found it with them!

This is very worthwhile going to learn about dog grooming. I had a very bad experience with a grooming school in Oakland( I left a yelp review; they deleted my google review), so I was very unsure what I would get out of the bathing class. I’m so glad I took a chance because it has been the best experience in my life. I learned so much about dogs in bathing that I would never have guessed and I went on to do the grooming class as well and learned how to use scissors and clippers to my advantage. The teachers are all amazing and encourage you to improve all the time. They were great with the mistakes I made. I was so used to getting a negative response, but here the teachers are very understanding and will always say mistakes help you learn. I hope more people come to this school for dog grooming. It's a great environment. The experience is you get what you pay for and this is worth the value. I highly recommend it.

I've been coming to this place for a few years! Sam & Liceth are two of the loveliest ladies who check in my baby for his hair appts. Bogey, my poodle, is happy to see them and knows them so he is not very scared. The stylists do an excellent job on his hair. He always leaves looking like a prince. I usually need to book a few appts out as they are popular and fill up fast.

I recommend this very professional academy for teaching, excellent methodology and the best thing is that you learn the art of dog grooming very well, professional instructors who know what they are doing. Recommended, they put the intelligent system and total quality into practice very well.

I highly recommend Northern California Grooming Academy if you want to become a dog groomer. There is nowhere better that you can go. Jose and Jackie are fun, friendly, and incredibly patient people who work closely with you the entire time. Learning to groom can be frustrating, and they would check up on me not just with my work but to ensure that I was feeling confident. Thanks to their training, I was able to start up my own grooming business and have over a hundred satisfied customers. They even helped me buy new equipment like an electric table and steel tub when I was ready to upgrade my tools over a year after I had left academy.
