Delicious and fresh seafood every time. The platters were amazing and the prices are very reasonable. The shop is filled with all types of snacks and additional sides to complete your meal. All the staff and chefs are super nice and very helpful. We went with Platter F & G.

Food: Very Fresh, Very unique Japanese marketPortions: Sold by quality and weightPrice: Great value, Better than at RestaurantService: Very Good and playAtmosphere: Small market, very coolTo my surprise, it's a very busy place. A lot of people. this place was referred by a friend. You can buy fresh fish for Sashimi and sushi made on the same day. The fish are delivered the same day as well. Not a large selection, so they don't have food overload left over for next day. I love it. Will be back for more great sushiNote: Entrance in the back parking lot. Street front door remains close for emergency only.

My friend recommended this market to me. It is easy to miss because the entrance is in the back. The kids like ordering the fresh seafood and although the store is small, they have a good selection of rolls along with other Japanese items. My two favorite things to get are the avocado roll which has been consistently creamy and delicious and the chicken karaage that has a fantastic dipping sauce. If you like mochi ice cream, they have a brand named “Mochidoki” that has flavors like Chocolate Habanero and birthday cake. There are also some cute items such as stationary and pet toys. There is some parking in the back that is shared with Thai Paradise and also parking on the street

This was a great hole in the wall spot. It was sketchy at first sight, but one inside the smell of fresh suchi was amazing. It's a great little market for FRESH SUSHI of all kinds. Packaged for individual lunch meal and many drink options from kid friendly to adults only. The market being small had great items to choose from and amazing prices. They also offer big party sushi platters, as you'll see in the picture.

I really like this place, been around since the 80's according to someone there. I can't believe I didn't know about it. but live further south and maybe why. I've only tried the preparied food, but the fish seems really fresh and look forward to trying that next.

Hidden gem! A must in the 626!Loved how fresh the raw seafood selections there, a perfect place to get your sashimi craving fixed. Most importantly, it’s very clean. It’s also a small Japanese market that sells a bunch of sake, snacks & cookies, sauces, and sushi rolls. You can also order the party trays from them.It might be a little difficult to find the entrance, but you can not miss this place.Highly recommend this place!

Amazing, high quality, and delicious food. The staff is all so friendly, I wish I lived closer so that I could come here more often. Everything is always fresh and well worth the price. Finally got to order a platter from here for a family get together and it was amazingly fresh and delicious! I want to eat here everyday haha

Very busy Japanese market. It sells sashimi-grade seafood. Couple of options to choose from. They usually will cut the fish for you but when we went, that day they were very busy and didn't offer the service. The workers are very friendly. Overall it was a good and nice experience. When they know we are not local and will drive for long hours to bring the fish home, they provided us with a lot of ice. The fishes were fresh and very yummy. We had them as our new year eve dinner.

I would like support small businesses in 626 area but my experience was disappointing. Everything looked good until you found a long hair intertwined in the rice of your nigiri, underneath the salmon. I tried to pull it out thinking it might be mine, but it was stuck so tight with the rice. That’s the moment you knew it was definitely not one of those that you accidentally dropped. Disgusting and gross, which made me lost my appetite for the entire dinner. Better hygiene is expected when raw ingredients are handled, so never again! You’re welcomed to go if you haven’t tried this hype in SGV. I hope you won’t get disappointed like I do.

Fresh fish and lots of premade sushi to go make this small store a treasure. I went to the San Gabriel location. The sashimi is cut and packaged in the fish case and looks nice and fresh. The premade sushi looks really fresh with a variety of fish. I opted for the California roll today And it was delicious. They carry a nice selection of sake and a small variety of Japanese snacks, teas and other items. I went at 530pm so it was little busy. Parking and entrance is in the back.

Went at 4:30 on a Friday and the fridge was fully stocked! They even have some pre-cut sashimi in the fridge now so you don’t have to wait with a ticket for the fish in the case anymore.

Super cute tiny Japanese fish market. They have lots of snack selections, as well as drinks too. The fresh made rolls are in the fridges right near the cash registers so it can get a bit crowded trying to make your sushi selection and opening the fridge door to grab it and trying to not bump anyone. Fresh fish market towards the back of the market. Displayed nicely and everything looked clean and fresh. The sushi rolls were delicious! Their CA rolls are huge and so yummy. Other rolls were great too, simple and fresh and tasty. We also got some octopus salad and kimchi cucumbers. A few drinks. Had a nice little lunch! Everyone working in the market was extremely nice and kind. Even the ones at the cash register, so sweet! They offer you disposable chopsticks when you buy rolls.Parking is in the back and it’s free! Entrance to the market is also in the back. You’ll see the signs once you park. They accept cash and cards.

AMAZING. The best! Wish I could give 10 stars. Three people have independently brought me here three separate times over the last 13 years. All three promising amazing, fresh, tasty, very affordable sushi. And every time, I was treated to just that. Amazing fish. Friendly staff. Busy location. If you want something specific for prepacked/made sushi (like salmon nigiri) come early! Alternatively, grab a big piece of sushi grade fish, and some of their sushi sticky rice, and make your own sashimi bowl. They will even cut your fish into perfect slices. Don’t judge by its exterior. Small parking lot in the back, north of the street/store. Wishing this place continued success. So nice to get fresh, tasty, and affordable sushi! Grabbed salmon avacado roll, mixed nigiri, and a seaweed salad all for $19 out the door. Wasabi, ginger, soy sauce, and chopsticks included.

A must try! The fish here is beyond fresh. Great sake selection too. I love that there's pre-made sushi on one side and Fresh fish that they prepare sashimi style on the other - something for every sushi lover. I love their Bluefin Tuna. Most of the fish/seafood is shipped straight from Japan. The place was opened by a sushi master and you can tell. The entrance is on the back side of the building.

*** TIP: Parking lot and entrance are in the back, behind the thai restaurant.I’ve been coming here over the last few years for a quick sushi pickup. The employees are always friendly and attentive. My favorite are the salmon sashimi (from the display case) and tamago (in the fridge area). Depending on when you arrive you may find the fridge sparsely empty but they do their best to restock it as quickly as possible. In the fridge area you can find an array of nigiri sushi, maki sushi, california rolls, seaweed, tamago, spam musubi, etc. In their display case around the corner you’ll find fresh slabs of fish. I enjoy seeing the label of origin the fish is from.I’ve only had an issue here one time during the summer and the cashier was very patient. I stopped by here on my way out somewhere and wanted a quick bite. After making my purchase, I sat in the car ready to chow down before hitting the road. There was a piece of a glove in one of my sushi containers. No big deal since I hadn’t left the store parking lot, walked back in and informed the cashier. Made the exchange for the same item, walked back to the car to chow down but this time I noticed there was something blue which had stained the rice. Okay, back inside for another try. This occurred maybe 3-4x before I figured out what was staining the sushi pieces blue. When you purchase certain items from the fridge it comes with wasabi and a packet of soy sauce. Turns out the ink from the date on the soy sauce packets was rubbing off onto the sushi causing the blue staining. The cashier was always extremely nice each time I walked to and from my car with the unusual issue. She seemed just as puzzled as I until the cause was revealed.Other things: They take Apple Pay. Normally they cut your chosen slice of fish into sashimi slices, but not during the holidays since it’s busy. The photos are from different days I’ve visited this month.

Yama Seafood is my favorite place to buy sushi-grade fish in LA! Freshest fish around! They're always so nice and cut your fish into sashimi pieces. And they offer ice bags to keep your fish fresh in the way home!!!We got salmon, blue fin tuna, fatty tuna, & yellow tail...along with picked cucumbers and seaweed salad. Delicious!!

I've been coming here for a very long time after a friend told me about this place. This place has changed so much for the better, assuming they either changed owners or did a whole new rebranding. Their sushi inventory is stocked all day and there are more options to pick from now. I always grab a spicy tuna, salmon avocado and california roll when I'm here. You can also order sushi platters too and they also sell fresh fish. Perfect if you wanna make your own sushi or poke at home. 😊

The fish are very fresh. You pick the type of fish and they will slice and prepare on a tray for consumption. Ask for chopstick/fork and soy sauce. Very very good!

Everything that I end up buying (and what ends up on our plates at home) tastes VERY Good. But the way that this store's entrance is at the back of their building And the layout of this store is generally AWKWARD. Of course this store is highly unique so we put up with their hidden (low rent store facility) but as prices increase, this odd layout and location seem more dubious. Note that there is a sister store in West-L.A. on National blvd, with slightly different offerings.

Good for the price. Everything moves fast so it's very fresh. But sometimes can be hard to find parking. Staff is nice, place is clean... Just wish they got more snacks

Parking is a bit weird, but just park in the back parking lot and there will be an open door that you can go through to enter. You get a number, wait for them to call your number, then choose what to buy. They’ll cut it up into sashimi slices, then call your number again for pickup.Go there early to get the best cuts and selection. The yellowtail was just okay, but we loved the chutoro. Ask them for the fattiest cut and pair it with some seaweed and sushi rice.

I’ve been coming to Yama for years and have seen the transformation.I miss the days when you can meet Yama personally and have him slice your sashimi but it’s gotten so much more efficient now! You don’t have to queue up in a line anymore. You just grab a number and shop around until they call you.And speak about shopping around, this place is a legit market now! I remember the back of the store used to have old paraphernalia displayed on the walls and shelves collecting dust. There would be antique mugs and figurines, old calendars and art, random sake glasses and notebooks. Now those shelves are stocked with all the sushi-making staples! The front of the shop also got a facelift. Lots of displays full of snacks and drinks. The fridges have desserts and frozen food items. And now they rarely run out of pre-made rolls and sushi!I love that I can come in and out in less than 30 minutes. Before I would wait anywhere from 1-2 hours. And speaking of hours, they are open every day now! I absolutely adore this place and seeing it improve over the years is a testament to how successful and amazing this place is.Also, don’t judge me for how much rice I eat 🤣🤣🤣

Best hidden gem of San Gabriel for sushi! Yama-san is extremely hospitable to every single customer that comes through and takes his time to cut your sashimi and present it to you like restaurant quality. In terms of their cut rolls, I personally love their spicy tuna roll. I've tried their salmon nigiri, salmon and avocado cut roll, eel cut roll; they're all terrific. The busiest part is the line to the sashimi, which can get hectic during rush hours (after work hours). I went on a Monday afternoon around 2:30 and it was empty; perfect time to order sashimi. Yama-san was nice enough to provide some free slices of tuna.If you haven't visited or tried this place, you must come and order sushi. Don't even bother with Mitsuwa market down the street because it's not nearly as close to the freshness of the fish here. Plus, you can also come and buy Japanese grocery products here as well.

I hate to say we saw this on TikTok but I'm glad we did. That sushi was incredible for the price. We got tuna roll, salmon roll X2, avocado roll and the crispy chicken. We are going to get sashimi next time.
