Even tho I don't live in SF anymore, I still like to stop by once in a while :) This time, I picked up a new toy (paper grass) for my Clementine and she definitely enjoys it as a great addition to her "crinkly corner" 😸

Love this local pet shop! The staff here adore all pet visitors, and always give our little 6-month-old husky mix, Kumo, a treat whenever we visit. (He found out he likes watermelon through the staff here. :D) There's always a bowl of water at the door for dogs to quench their thirst, and this place usually has whatever comes to mind in terms of dog needs. And if they don't have it, they can most likely order it for you to pick up at the store when the delivery comes in.Another great perk about this store is they have 3 dog baths in the back of the store, complete with dryer, and towel service! If you don't have dog shampoo and/or conditioner, the store has samples ready at your leisure to add to your bath bill. They come in oatmeal, mango, and lavender scents. Those bottles for us can typically last two sessions.Don't forget supplies for little feline friends! As far as I can tell, they'd have everything you need for cats, too.If you're in the area, have your furry friend stop by for a visit! You're in for a treat. ;)

Update 11/18: the anti flea drops they sold me literally burn my dog skin, I needed to bring her to the hospital for urgent careFirst review after a few visits: Very disappointed by the customer service, depends on who you talk to so i won’t go back. In addition they don’t seem to know very well their products. Fair selection though.

This is a wonderful store with a great selection of pet food, toys, medicines, etc. They also have certain services that they provide as well. Call to inquire. The customer service is the best!

Wow! What great service. Emily went the extra mile and helped me with my zero contact shopping experience. She made me feel comfortable about my decision and not at all rushed while helping me over the phone. Between their zero contact help and their availability on Doordash there's no need to get your pet supplies anywhere else. Support this local business!

The super helpful staff are always eager to help find whatever you need, and if by chance they don't have exactly what you're looking for they seem to know the product well enough to suggest alternatives, or in my case, they've offered to order it to the store. Canned cat food cases are discounted so stock up and pet costumes are always a hit. They even sell Warriors jerseys! Shop local and visit Village Pets, they're right across the street from Trader Joe's and CVS too!

This is my go-to pet store. It's a small space but they carry a large selection of products, which are well-organized. The staff is helpful and friendly and their prices are comparable to the chain pet stores. BONUS: it's located across the street from a Trader Joe's (and a CVS)

Nice neighborhood pet supply shop with a good selection. The staff have always been friendly and helpful, and I enjoy going in, as there is usually a pleasant chat involved with the folks here.My only complaint would be very narrow aisles, but such is retail space in high rent areas. A fair proportion of the clientelle seem oblivious to others in a tight public space, but this is also common in San Francisco. Neither of these issues are the fault of the store or it's management or staff. The prices seem fair and competitive.Excellent little shop.

Very expensive, not really for the bargain shopper, but it does have every type of pet supply needed for all types, even exotic pets and say if you need puppy milk supplementation as it was taken from mother too soon, they do have the whole range of milk replacement and baby animal bottle nursing supplies. They have a small area for the smaller pet genre such as birds, rodents and fish but mainly focalize on the dog/cat pet area. Unfortunately, I asked if they would order by request any particular things for small animals as pets but they denied being willing to.... So what you see is what you can get. I will still continue giving them my business as they are conveniently located by my residence unlike the larger chains in which I have to travel so the small increase of product pricing is worth it to me, and the employees are super sweet and dedicated.

Nice employees, but a little pricey. They sell kitty grass which is what I was looking for. My dog eats grass when her tummy hurts and I live in the TL so there is not any available outside. They have a rewards system for purchasing stuff; I earned a free dog wash already.

What a lovely pet store! They're all packed with treats for my four-legged mates. Many members of my family and friends have toured this pet store. Their goods and services made an indelible impression on me. You would not be disappointed if you want one of their recommendations.

A cool, off-beat pet shop. Lots of fun and unusual things for cats and dogs. I was there looking for some gifts for a friend who recently adopted a dog. The person working there was helpful and I found some great stuff. The only downside is that it's small and cramped (like so many places in sf). I would highly recommend this place for pet accessories.

This is my go-to for cat food. They carry primarily higher end boutique brands. Their prices are compatible to chewy, which is awesome for a small local store. Great quality toys and grooming supplies, too. Note- they don't sell live animals. The SPCA or animal control are the largest adoption centers near by.

The V Pet ID tags are great! They look good, they're easy to read, and they fit smoothly on my dogs' collars. Furthermore, I don't have to worry about buying new ones when I change out collars; they will simply slide right on to the new ones.

I love this store! It's actually way bigger than it looks from the outside. The staff is great and obviously loves pets. Our puppy loves the treats they give when we stop by. They have a great selection of items. Great location with lots of pet owners who live near by.

Aisles are narrow, makes it a good place to try to get my large puppy to walk straight. Staff is awesome. I always take my baby here for his bath. Unlike other places, they provide bath massagers and combs, not just soap and towels. And if my hands are full with dog and other stuff, I can just go straight back to the bath area in the back, instead of struggling with the dog and scrounging through my things to pay first. Since the place itself is so small but surprisingly well stocked with anything you can think of for dogs and cats, they don't have some things that fit my large pup, like sweaters and shoes, but the staff go out of their way to check their stock room and, more importantly, love up my pup.

I love this place, very friendly and very helpful. I rescued a senior dog that has eaten the same food his whole life so I obviously didn't want to change it. Village Pets didn't carry it but they were more than happy to have it ordered for me. I really appreciate this since they are the closest pet store to my house. My dog is always happy to stop in and is sad when we dont.

I get my dogs food here (taste of the wild - salmon flavor) and they are always very friendly and are especially good with with my dogs. She is shy and they give her treats, then give her space. They have a great selection of fish treats and fish food for dogs.

Pretty good selection of pet products. I go there every month for my dog food and occasionally for a toy or treat. Prices are reasonable, service is good, and there is never a line to check out.

Always friendly and helpful! Thank you for turning down (and off) the punk rock, metal music, too! Most Recent update:Super bummed to be here and writing this review. Previously rated these guys 5 Stars. I have always been proud to support my small and local neighboring businesses and in return have always felt recognized and supported in return. Village Pets has been a business I have trusted and have always viewed as a "neighbor/friend," not a business. There were times when my first two cats didn't like foods and I would just donate the un-open cans to spca or acc, and try something new. Sadly, my second cat passed from cancer a year after adopting him and that brings me to my newest two youngsters, both with different appetites, sensitivities, and palettes, which is super super frustrating. My eldest cat seems to have an allergy and has been itching himself raw. I have seen the vet, and have been trying everything to help him. When I shared this struggle and frustration with the owner of Village Pets (pre-covid,) she was super empathetic, made some suggestions, and offered a bunch of samples, while letting me know they would exchange and return foods if I found something wasn't working. I felt I had a true partner in this incredibly frustrating journey of figuring out what the heck to feed my cat that he wouldn't respond negatively to. I believe she eve said, "even if a can is open, and your cat doesn't like it, if you have a receipt, we will give a refund." Bringing back an opened can is something I have never been comfortable with but recently, one of my cats fav flavors changed their label and the recipe (pretty in pink,) and I felt the store needed to know that it was really really bad and so I brought the can and encouraged them to open a new one and review how "rancid," it seemed. (pretty sure they just ignored me.) Fast forward, since Covid, I have not seen the owner. I have been continuing to de-mystify my cat's sensitivity and feel I almost have it nailed. In the years past, I haven't brought foods back to exchange because I wasn't sure what to exchange for. Now that I have discovered (and am almost certain,) my cat is allergic to chicken,) I decided to return 4 cans to exchange. (3 were chicken and the one was the open can of pretty in pink.) The total of these four cans likely amounts to $8. After years of shopping at Village Pets (usually 2-3 times a month,) with an average of $200 to $300 a month, and feeling like they were my friend and neighbor, the shock I had at the reaction to my bringing 4 cans back, was honestly, heartbreaking. Two of the store clerks stood behind the counter challenging me on the "integrity," of the return and literally making me feel shamed and as if I was trying to get away with something dishonest. Again, I have been a regular for YEARS. I have spent THOUSANDS, over those years. I accidentally brought the wrong receipt from 6 months back and Emily was super condescending and "Ohhhhh, I SEE, I understand why we can't find these in the system because they were sold to you 6 months ago." (I literally had bought these cans on Sept 1st, just two weeks earlier, later found the receipt, and Emily was actually the cashier who had sold them to me.) I walked out of the store that day feeling completely estranged from what I considered for years, to be a supportive friendship and business relationship. I felt shamed, unrecognized, and the worst, distrusted. All over $8 of merchandise. I called a day later and asked to speak with the owner. Apparently she hasn't been into the store since Covid began. I left my number and asked for her to call me. And, days later, nothing. I am sure my review will fall on deaf ears and I do not write this to be malicious. But, I did want to ensure that it be known I tried to reach out to talk about my the disappointment of my experience, and never heard back. I guess I wasn't a valued neighbor after all.

I love this place. Everyone is always so nice and helpful. I moved a little farther away, but I still like to go here for my cat's frozen foods and supplies, and I like to contribute to small community based businesses when they are an asset to the community.

Staff is friendly and they have a wide range of products. If you happen to take your dog with you to SF and you would like to take public transportation like cable cars or buses you need a muzzel for your dog. This place was super friendly and decently priced.
