This is a smaller Safeway location. It is sort of convenient as it is about five blocks from my office. They have salads for $5 if you buy two. The quality of these salads are a few notches below those at Fidi take-out restaurants. The hot food section was OK. I remember them as having a bigger selection before Covid. The checkout lines weren't bad.

The other reviewers are correct; this Safeway does not have a restroom, even though it is listed as an amenity. The restroom has been closed for years. Safeway should update their amenities list to avoid false advertising. Additionally, the quality of the hot food is very poor, reminiscent of dog food.

Now I've been a customer of this Safeway location for almost 3 years now. In all my time being a patron never have I witnessed such a embarrassing and childish way to address customers. Even if you may suspect 2 young men stealing food as an employee you should be able to keep your composure not to mention the 30 year age gap as the two gentleman were no older than 20 and thr worker must be 40+. The employee became irate when he accused the two young men of stealing but was quickly shut down and proven wrong. So he continued to dig his grave with derogatory remarks bordering racism. I do hope the management team sees this pony tail 40 year old as child unfit to even scan people's items and wear a fake smile for a paycheck.

Very unprofessional staff who uses reverse discrimination about black people by assuming we play basketball, and we want to smoke all the time. One employee named Christine I asked to cash lottery tickets and she assumed they were fake and specifically told her 49 minutes ago three times I do not smoke but assumed as her perception. You need to hire trained, professional, and customer service friendly staff and not racist Asian immigrants who want to destroy this business.

The staff is very biased and show signs of discrimination amongst the races that visit the store. They follow you around (if your black) and if you walk away from your cart for a second they will start putting things back. I always use the self checkout to make sure that I get my discounts and rewards. This location has a problem with prices not adding up correctly. The area manager Karina is a complete joke and when you ask her for assistance she gives you the side eye and makes sure that you know that your concerns mean nothing to her. The employees seem unhappy with the dynamics there. I like the groceries and the location. Even the people that shop there are cool. I did catch one asian employee passing free groceries to a random man. I am sure because what she passed him I had rejected it. The same man walked out the door the same time I did. He was not an employee. You may face harassment in this store and some of the employees are not to be trusted. The worst employees are near the self checkout. I often travel to the Castro Safeway which is far from where I live to avoid shopping at this Safeway on Jackson. The store was okay but seems to be getting worse and worse.

I used to like the store and kept shopping there for the last 2-3 months. Every time I go to Safeway I prefer to use the self-checkout as I like making sure all my coupons are applied (which is hard to do while being with a cashier and having a line behind you). I've used the self-checkout since the first time I went to this location and it had never been a problem. Yesterday, an employee approached me saying I had to do it with a cashier, and to my question "Is this because I have more items?", she said, "It will be easier for you". I told her I always do it like this and I wanted to make sure I got all the coupons. She kept insisting despite me saying "Is that mandatory?" I wouldn't mind her staying right next to me and supervising me while I was scanning, as long as I could do it myself. I have had multiple cases when coupons are not correctly applied or prices are different than what's displayed on the shelves and that is why I prefer to use checkout. She kept telling me I didn't have enough room at the self-checkout even if I had been doing this forever. I asked if this was mandatory two more times and if I was obligated to go to a cashier and she only kept repeating "It's easier". I don't like people telling me what is easier for me because I have ended up going back to Safeway many times to get refunds for wrong prices or double-scanned items. An employee is not the one who can decide what is easier for a specific customer, it's different for everyone. If there is a policy or a limit of items for the self-checkout it must be displayed without making people feel bad!!!!

5 stars for the Audacity of your new employee asking me if I wanted my 4.5” sandwich cut in half. He looked me in my eyes with conviction and said “you want this cut in half!” How do you cut air in half? I almost jumped the counter and threw the crumb snack with mustard y’all call a sandwich. It wasn’t even made right but I grew into a deep state of sandwich depression and gave up. The bread size and portions are getting ridiculously small. But the price went up! 5 stars on ambition. The pickles were crunchy and fresh.

I usually like this safe way but I noticed in the morning when I go before workm they don't actually open up at 6. It's always 6:05 or 6:10 maybe change the sign. And try to change the sign on your deals because I just had a huge problem with your cashier arguing with me about a buy 2 get the 3rd free.

Too many people stealing. Kind of uncomfortable atmosphere. Recently discontinued self checkouts so have to wait like 10 minutes to pay.

I moved into the area 3 months ago. I shop here twice a week. The Triton security guard tonight, "Deez", was outside when I entered. He followed me around the store, which I understand (seen a couple of destitute people get caught shoplifting here). He watched me as I checked out about 5 feet from him, watched me put my groceries in my empty jacket pocket, I grabbed my receipt, and started to leave. He ran up to me and commanded that I show him the contents of my pocket. I asked if he wanted to see my receipt first, to which he replied "No!...ok"How are you supposed to know what's stolen if you don't know what I purchased? This lack of basic intelligence gathering is what started to annoy me.I asked if he saw me in the check out; he just smiled and said "I catch all of you". I called him out on his assumptions and lack of observation. He smiled, said "You'll be back", and handed me back my receipt without ever checking my purchases or apologizing. This happened tonight, 8:20-8:30pm. I encourage Safeway management to review the tapes of the whole thing with Triton, and recommend "Deez" gets retrained in basic etiquette and security.Besides today, I would probably rate this Safeway at 4.5 stars. It's a smaller Safeway, but there's a decent assortment of groceries, produce, hot deli, flowers, liquor, and home goods. The half star off is for lacking certain items, but overall they are well stocked, clean, with decent prices

Their restroom has been “out of order “ for at least 2 months… most safeways are like this. Put a code if you don’t want the homeless to use it, but at least allow your customers to!!

Really convenient to go here - I live very close-by and they keep security at night to help late night shoppers. Tonight, I was rushing to buy groceries after 3 days of eating out - shoutout to Patrick and another cashier who ringed me in (I forgot his name) helped me bag the groceries in speed time and kept the store open few minutes more since I had to run back to grab my card.Amazing employees there... and they keep security so that at least inside the store its safe.

Early mornings thsi place is very unorganized. They never have any bakery goods, if you are lucky, a woman would be stocking donuts at around 7:30 and she gives you an attitude if you ask for some. Never have enough open registers so they line gets very. This place sucks, but unfortunately there are not other oprions in the area, so I'll be coming back.

The female supermarket worker I met at the checkout at 8:30 last night, she was very impatient and very rude. I won't be going to this safeway again.

I'd give it 0 stars if I could, refused sale of alcoholic beverages based on not accepting a Canadian ID; which is whatever but the teller was extremely rude about it

These 5 stars are for Koosha, the cashier who attended me today. While the other two Asian cashier & manager(?) are stressed out yelling at people as if we are cows, and making themselves quite unavailable even for the elders who come here, this cashier is efficient, keeps the line moving, and acknowledge those who come in or those next in line. I avoid coming here due to the very poor consistent customer service, even if the location is very convenient to me. It was nice to see an actual decent human being treating you as a valued customer

I love this Safeway. It’s open until 11pm every day, while it’s much smaller than other locations in the city, I prefer this above the other stores only because of the size and it’s far less overwhelming than the 2020 Market St location on church and market. The employees are….nice.Helpful? Um….not past 9pm in my honest opinion. The deli is a bit of a challenge. You can’t order anything until after you pay for the item at the register. Meaning you pay for whatever it is you want, and then you place the order at the deli showing your receipt. The selection of beverages and freezer options is great. I rarely have to resort to a second or third option much like other Safeway locations.

Friendly employees but always busy. This store is more expensive than the others but that's because it's in the city. Good place to get a few items but it might be better to go to another store if buying a lot.

I don’t recommend this store. Staff is rude and nasty. My child 5 year old child wants to use a restroom and they told us to go somewhere else. I will never shop at this store even thought it’s my local store.

Even though it's a small neighborhood store located in the base of a residential tower it's clean, well stocked and the employees are professional and friendly. Has a great deli if you're looking for a place to grab some snacks for the day or to grab some lunch to go. While checking out on one of the self-checkout stands an employee came over with the weekly ad to make sure that I had noticed the yogurts I was purchasing were on special and that I received the discount!

I am an Indian. Had to purchase few items and I was at a counter where an old Asian lady was the cashier. I really don't know why was she showing hatred towards me. She was so rude and behaving like a racist. I was just laughing about her inside and walked out. When I came out after completing my payment with my cart. Another Asian lady was shouting at me and saying that I did not make the payment. I told her that I have a receipt. Still she was calling me inside. After going inside again, she said ...its not you. No apologies. No respect. I have many Asian friends who are so nice. But in bay area, I see lot of old Asian people behave this way. Unfortunately this Safeway is with so many racists. Safeway manager should step in and address this immediately. Very shocking!

I'm aware of the typical way in which this story will be disregarded due to the cities ..,.well we can say ailments. Short story boring the self service machine shorted me my change(I think it was around five dollars cause I used a five). I was called a liar, they only had to sply look at the tape/ video of transactions but they went the route of being extremely offensive and they stole my change. I've called several times to set this right but no one is believing me......they don't have too. There was tape!!!!

This is one of the smallest Safeways around. The isles are cramped, and they don't have anywhere near the product options that larger Safeways, like the one on Market, have. Still, the produce is fresh, and I can usually find the type of meat that I came in for. The staff is usually friendly, so that is at least a plus.

TLDR: No one employed at this store knows how to check a Safeway gift card balance. Visited this Safeway today, Wednesday May 24, 2023 at approximately noon. I went straight to customer service to check the balance on my gift card. No one was working there. Security guard said she didn't know where they went. I asked another employee if she could check my balance, she said I could check it at ANY register. The lines were long, so I asked at the bakery. She didn't know how to do it. I asked at floral. She didn't know how to do it. I got in the express line. Before the cashier started to ring up my lunch I asked her if she could check my balance first because I would not be able to purchase anything unless there was a balance on the card. She said she didn't know how and couldn't I check it on my phone. It's irrelevant wether I do or do not have a phone. She rang up my items and my card was declined. So embarrassing and it all could have been avoided if anyone in the store had been properly trained.

I have been a Safeway customer since the 1960's. And a Bay Area Native, a former Nob hillResisent. I Asked to use the Rest Room for a women I was showing the city to. And was refused. What has happened to our beautiful city. I was embarrassed. It's time to wake up San Francisco. Our kind city can't be like this anymore.
