I do like how it’s in an old house but the space felt cramped and disorganized. At times I felt like I was in a storage unit.I noticed a lot of the shelves had cobwebs In the upper corners. The woman working the desk looked annoyed. The worst was the smoke detector (I guess cos it’s in an old house??) was going off beeping randomly and it seemed to make the birds in the adjoining room really uncomfortable!I didn’t feel welcomed in the store so I didn’t even bother to ask permission to see the poor parrots screeching their heads off in the darkened room to the side. The cockatiel food I bought was at an ok price but I could’ve bought it cheaper at petco. In summary to all bird owners out there GO TO OUR FEATHERED FRIENDS INSTEAD! They treat their birds so much better there and are much more welcoming and professional.

I bought a hard to find bird from this store and had it shipped to Florida. Fair prices & prompt communication. Bird arrived safe with no complications. Thank you for being a quality store.

Bought two birds there and used their pet hotel services. They are extremely honest, telling you the personalities not only of the species but also the individual birds who they have put the time in to know personally. They always give free services like wing and nail clippings for the birds they sell. They taught my conure to talk while he stayed with them! Not a huge selection, they are a loving married couple pursuing a passion on a shoe string budget. Not extremely cheap, but if you think you can get a parrot on the cheap you are making a tragic mistake. They are too intelligent and will come with emotional problems if noone has invested the time in them. I trust these merchants, and that means everything as buying a parrot really is adopting a toddler that will never grow up and it so important to do it right.

I get Shelby's (a Blue and Gold macaw) nails and wings done here, they are so good that when they do the trimming she never screams. They also share their 20 years of knowledge freely and have taught me how to be a better owner (as if we own them) and care giver. I recommend them highly for all your bird needs.

I've been a parrot lover my entire life, I have been fortunate to house parrots in need for over 30 years and have had them come and go to re home into forever homes. I know all the local bird stores in San Diego and most of the owners by first name basis. What I am getting at is that I know the industry very well and how businesses work. I am now in the market for a GCC and they had a variety to chose from at very reasonable prices. My experience with Tropic Island Bird and Supply was a very positive one, The owners were sensitive to my needs and I was able to hang out there asking them a huge amount of questions about GCC's and each answer was given in a professional and courteous manner. Answers that I already knew the questions to but wanted to hear them again. I chose the bird and was given a free vet check to the most well renowned Avian Veterinarian in San Diego. Wow, is it a beauty, I can't wait to get acquainted with it.About the store itself, oh my gosh, there was bird seed on the ground and it was a little messy. WELL YEAH it's a bird store, HELLO. Small bird stores are usually a bit messy, birds are messy, just about the messiest pets you can get. So expect a little mess if you go there, it's hard to hire a full time seed sweeper when your a small business owner, and it looks as though they are doing the best they can. The water was clean, the seed was fresh, the cages were clean. If your looking for a bird, please stop by this place, it's worth the look and hopefully you'll take home an incredible, beautiful, well socialized part of the family.

Very nice people so honest, I found what I need! Their prices are really cheap than any other pets store, I got a baby cocktail and she is very healthy and nice. The only note I have to the owner is to lable the cages with names, prices and a brief of birds life.Flyers should be available as a hard copy.

I drove almost 2 hours to go to this Bird store that was closed when I got there. I didn't know that the owners daughter was getting married and he only came in to feed the birds. He was so kind to let me come in to get a green cheek conure for my grand daughter. He didn't rush me and I was allowed to put money down and pick the bird up in a couple of weeks. On day of pick up his wife was so patient and explained every thing I needed to know about the bird. We love our "Ollie", he is sweet, funny and a joy to be around. I am so glad I took the extra time to travel so far. These people care about their birds and the new owners.

I am an experienced bird owner who wanted to try out raising a new kind of bird and purchased a parrotlet back in November 2018. I was told at the time he was about 5 months old. I took him afterwards to the vet that does free initial checkups for their birds and got an expert opinion that the bird was already past 10 months old.In short they will lie to you to make extra money. I have had a lot of behavioral issues plus later health problems with this bird. DO NOT BUY FROM THIS PLACE!

THE BEST EXPERIENCE EVER!!!The owner is by far the most knowledgeable of bird store owners and breeders that my wife and I have ever interacted with and we had visited every bird store in Southern California. The love and time she puts into her birds is priceless. We have the sweetest Golden Conure ever because of her. While we were awaiting our Golden Conure to come home we would drive everywhere and anywhere to meet other golden conures to experience their peronalities. We visited Golden Conures of similar age at Omar's pet stores and an older Golden Conure at free flight sanctuary as well as countless other Golden Conures at other locations and there is no comparison. We were actually a little bummed because all of the Golden Conures we experienced at those locations were not what we read about online in terms of their personalities. Ours is different. It is the sweetest and kindest bird ever and we have plenty of sweet bird species at home including a Hyacinth macaw. Our Golden Conure from this business is a LOVE. I know it is directly a result of how the owner cared for and loved our bird prior to us receiving her. We cannot thank them enough. They are a true blessing. Do not judge them by their store, it is an old small beach building, so what do you expect, Office Depot standards? The quality of what they offer isn't in their store aesthetics but it is in their quality birds, their love, their knowledge, and their experience of birds. Trust me, you cannot do business with better people in this industry.

Wonderful store where the birds are truly loved and cared for. Cobwebs in the corner means that they spend more time taking care of birds than worrying about cobwebs that signify nothing. This is a place to if you want a hand raised, well cared for, baby bird. If you are even considering purchasing a bird at someplace like Petsmart or Petco than you haven't done your homework and you likely shouldn't be keeping any birds whatsoever. That also goes to not understand that birds are not typically annoyed by beeps and whistles such as smoke detectors. They will typically respond to them like they do all noises that might be "bird like". One person actually makes a comment that other places are more "professional" and take better "care" of their birds without providing one example. This is the same person who thinks that buying a bird at Petsmart is a better deal because the bird would be "cheaper". If you are concerned about style over substance than this place may not be for you. Please do your homework before buying a bird. I'm not saying that you have to buy anything here because there are a lot of reputable places out there. But objectively, this is one of them. And no, I don't work for the store, don't know anyone in the store and have only stopped by the store once but I have kept Parrots my entire adult life and I wouldn't hesitate to purchase anything here.

Went in to see about getting a pineapple green cheek conure. Living conditions for the birds are unsat. Small, cramped, overpopulated and dirty cages. While I have to say the staff was quite friendly they seemed to handle the birds a bit aggressively. Also they advertised the birds as being “tame” on their website/Craigslist but they are far from it. Also while I was in, the man working that day handed off an amazon parrot to me after I had said I didn’t want to hold it and left the room for no reason. While putting the bird back on the perch I noticed quite a bit of blood on my arm. Upon further inspection I discovered an injury on the tail that was dripping blood. I notified the employee but he didn’t seem to pay much mind to what I had to say so therefore I will not be back. I’d suggest going to our feathered friends or birdsmart. Their prices are better for the quality you get, much better care is taken of their birds and the staff is much more knowledgeable.

Filthy. They don't allow photos any more and I can see why. Multiple birds were crammed into small cages. The cage floors were dirty and there was so much debris in the water bowls that I couldn't see the bottom of some of the dishes. The owner was sitting at the counter and I was the only one in the store so she wasn't too busy to clean the cages. As I walked around the birds she did change one water dish. But there were other filthy ones she ignored.

Very nice people. Never try to upsell, always honest with the customers. They have lots of baby birds (handfeed and tame). They carry all high quality foods and supplies. They have been the best price of all the birds and supplies we bought.

I would not buy a bird from here. The place was very dirty, birds didn't look healthy or happy, they were very scared, not enough cages for every bird to have their own space, not alot of toys for them to play with, not alot of food for them and clean water. All the birds were all together instead of their own space and some were on the floor and could get stepped on. I feel bad for the birds here.

So so conditions for the birds. Smallish cages and not as clean as they should be. Some cages overcrowded. Store advertises on Craigslist in violation of the sites rules against selling pets.
