Placed an order, after a week it still hadn't shipped. Sent an email, no response. Called a few days later and rep I spoke to said they'll contact me back with info on my order, never got that call. After a couple days tried to contact them back every day for a over week, they never answered the phone. Finally got my credit card company involved to refund the charge.

I ordered a Flowerhorn (who shall be referred to as Mr. Wonderful from now on) and had it shipped to my home in Gulfport, MS. Mr. Wonderful shipped exactly when the shipping policy stated that he would. I received emails from Pet Zone when I placed the order and when Mr. Wonderful actually left the store along with the tracking number. Finally, when I received Mr. Wonderful he was packaged well (quadruple bagged with a heater pack in a small cooler) and in perfect condition. Mr. Wonderful is definitely the exact same fish that was advertised/photographed on the website. Pet Zone's photographs accurately depicted the size and color of Mr. Wonderful.Often, ordering livestock online can be a nerve-racking experience fraught with uncertainty. This was such an easy, flawless, and pleasant transaction. Without reservation I will order from Pet Zone again in the future and I recommend that everyone else give them try. If your experience is anywhere close to mine you will not be disappointed. Thanks Pet Zone and keep up the good work!

They have a great selection. But they are not upfront regarding any guarantees about fish. I bought a blue eyed bushynose pleco along with some other fish. The pleco died in less than two days and the store would not replace or give me store credit for the fish. When I called, the man working told me the fish are only guaranteed for 24 hours. I did not see this policy posted anywhere in the store or on the receipt. Their website only addresses a policy on shipped fish but I didn't find any information regarding live fish purchased in the store. They need to be more upfront with customers.

This place already has my business for life. I've ordered hundreds of live fish online from every of the top retailers, and while some are still very good, this place stands. I've had had HORRIBLE lucky finding a good-sized, good priced iridescent shark and have had 6 arrive at my house from other places with ich, diseases, fungus, and although I am a hell of a fish doctor I have only had one live. I got two two PRIMO specimens from Pet Zone today that I cannot be happier about. They shipped next day, not delay. I also got two narrow leaf Java Fern which I haven't seen in other stores and where in absolute in impeccable condition. You guys rock. -MM

Nice and knowledgeable. Always ask before buying: is this fish going to get along with that fish? Is this fish medication safe for snails?What temperature this fish needs? In the past I had good experiences here. Most unfortunately, last week I got a batch of 6 fish (2 guppies and 4 neon tetras) that all died within 5 days and also infected and killed some of my healthy fish that I had for almost a year! I was too upset to tell them about it. Even when I made sure to ask the seller how long they had the fish, I was told fish were healthy and I trusted their word.

They post a fish online for $24.99 when I asked they gave me a different price so I show them their own post they get mad. They make up their own price as they go along and the husband and wife gave me totally different price on the same fish that cost online. This place is over price so I end up buying a couple fish down the block (Topical Fish Stop) the place to buy best quality fish.

Great freshwater fish store. They carry all types including monster fish like arowana. The couple who owns the store are super friendly specially the Mama. Papa a little bit grumpy but that's no issue as long as the fish are healthy. Parking is just a little bit tough.

Bad experience on so many levels1. Allowed me to place online order for fish not in stock without informing that being the case2. No response to support email (sent over a month ago now)3. Shipped partial order only but charged full amount4. After calling their number, they offered to refund but never did.Ended up disputing with my credit card company. Stay away. I highly recommend Wetspot Tropical Fish instead. Superb experience with them every time. Petzone lost my business after the first transaction.

Family owned. They are super nice and helpful! Fish are happy and lots are fed live blackworms which they always have in stock! Good selection of freshwater fish. Definitely love coming here even though it’s a little out of the way for me.

I went to pick up some amano shrimp. I was greeted right away. The shopkeeper was so sweet and nice, I felt as if i were her grandchild. They had a welcoming cat that came up to me and wanted me to pet.although they had a small selection of fish to choose from at this location, I was extremely proud to be able to support my local pet store. I'm so glad things are going well for them that they have a second branch open in convoy area. You guys are awesome!

Love this place. Used to buy my fish and stuff at large chain stores like Petco and such until I found this place. The lady is really friendly. Also the they have fish that you won’t find in other parts of San Diego. Also really full of knowledge about the hobby and they won’t force sell you anything and if you don’t have the right setup they can choose not to sell it to you. Which is good because other places try to force sell you fish regardless and in the end the animal suffers and dies and you lose money.

My Hubby and I can’t express enough how AWESOME Pet Zone is! We normally go into the Convoy store but finally made it to the University location to pick up 2 fish that have been on our DREAM/WISH/BUCKET LISTS! We went in thinking we were buying 1 and ended up with 2 RARE AMAZON PUFFERS! Even getting there at close we managed to end up leaving with 2 additional tanks but the prices were so reasonable/LOW, the additional splurging didn’t feel wrong! No buyers remorse here especially when buying from our favorite Tropical Fish Franchise! We love you guys and thanks for making us feel like family from the first phone call we made into your store! ;)

My experience at Pet Zone was excellent! The owner was very helpful and friendly, I felt very welcomed in her store. While this is a smaller store compared to the Convoy St location, it still has a decent selection of fish including bettas, flowerhorns, and arowana. They also had a new, unopened shipment of driftwood that the owner opened and allowed me to browse. She even was kind enough to reserve a siamese fighting fish until my tank was ready for him.Definitely recommend but if you need more supplies, try their Convoy St location!

This place has been around for a very long time. I started coming here over 10 years ago. Yes they seem outdated but rest assured the fish are top notch. Most fish loss is do to customers not knowing how to keep fish properly. Either way they carry a wide array of both common and rare tropical fish. I also enjoy their Kearny Mesa location.

This place is awesome. Decent selection of fish. It's one of those local hole in the wall gems. The couple running the store were very helpful. I walked away with a "wave" maker, fish, and accessories for my pond. The fish I purchased were feeder goldfish and comets that are living happily in my pond. I would highly recommend this fish store!

Bought koi here and bought koi at aquatic warehouse on complex st. Bought what seems the same size and quality koi at both places. At Pet Zone the price was $17 each and aquatic was 4 for $100 or $30 each. The selection was much better at Pet Zone and the prices are cheaper. Wanted to give Aquatic warehouse a negative review due to the guy that nets the fish swapped fish on me ( I believe intentionally), quickly wrapped them up and took my money. Didn't get my red and white koi I really wanted. Instead he swapped it with a yellow fish (YUK !). This lady at Pet Zone is very nice honest person. Everything was straight forward and much easier to select and complete my purchase.

I love Pet song I have gotten fish from there for a very long time and I just traded my huge percussiveness worth about $50 for smaller. Mike picasimus has a little thorns and was getting way too big for my 55 gallon tank.The owners are always in there ready to help you the most polite people I know. They run a great business and they're honest.

Amazing and friendly staff. Original Pet Zone that has been in the community for decades. The owners are very friendly knowledgeable about animals. They have a cute cat roaming the store that you can pet.They have a wide variety of fish available for very reasonable prices. Cheaper than most other stores. They have some of the best discus fish around. Make note. They only sell freshwater fish.

Review and poor score is for their online shipping and customer service. I’ve ordered twice from them and both orders had issues showing lack of care by the staff and poor husbandry.First order of six Otocinclus catfish, two of them were clearly in bad shape and should not have been shipped out. I now have four catfish left. Second order, they forgot to put a heat pack and temps were cold overnight. Water was ice cold when it arrived and fish looked very bad with two DOA and two more on deaths doorstep. Upon closer inspection of these ten glow light Rasbora, they are all skinny with sunken bellies. Three of them are very skinny any listless, barely able to swim. It’s clear these guys do not even look at the fish they are catching and bagging. I would never ship fish like these and I worked in the aquarium biz for a long time so I know quality livestock and good shipping procedures and this ain’t it.They use a random separate email for their doa claim in an attempt to screw people out of their claims. By the time I was made aware of this separate email, it was too late for my claim. They want you to mutilate the dead bodies of your fish also to get a doa claim which is disturbing. I wrote an email about the above issues and they didn’t read it, just sent a canned response back and no offer of credit or anything to resolve the issues. Never again.

This is one of the best aquatic based stores in San Diego. Most of the fish they have are more freshwater based rather than saltwater. They accept donated fish, they quarantine newly arrived fish, and the staff know a-lot about most of the fish. Definitely coming back here more often.

Terrible. Yeah they may have a wide selection but the pricing is terrible and the fish don't live long. I've been doing fish tanks since I was 5 so I know what I'm doing. And every time I add new fish I monitor the water for 2 weeks. The fish died within a week and I couldn't do anything about getting new ones because of their stupid 24 hour policy. I'd rather shop at petco or pet smart where I know I'll be taken care of and I know I'll get new fish if they die within a few weeks. Save your money and shop somewhere else. Won't waste my time or money here again!
