Had taken our dog here several times for grooming and generally had good service. This last time however was ridiculous. I was running a little late, they called me and I told them I was on my way. They said I needed to be there by 10:45am. I got there at 10:45am and the guy behind the counter asks if we are there for our appointment to check us in but a woman then walks to the back and says they cannot take the appointment because we are late. I'm like what? I told you I was on my way and we got here exactly at 10:45. She then pulls out her phone says "well it's 10:46am now so you'll need to reschedule". So I tell you I'll be there at 10:45, I arrive at 10:45, you go to the back, come back and tell me it's now 10:46 and the appointment has been cancelled? Why would you even bother to call me if you were going to be such a jerk when I get there? What in the world kind of customer service is that?!? Although their grooming service is fine, I suggest people take their business elsewhere if this is how they choose to treat their customers. Better to support businesses who aren't unfriendly jerks to their customers.

Our miniature Aussie has received grooming there for months now. We love it, everyone is pleasant, and the groomer assigned to our dog has been attentive to our needs and loving toward our dog. The treats selection is also the best! Just ask my dog.

If you truly want to take your dog to people who actually care about every dog that walks in, this is the place! They’re very compassionate people that care about the dogs experience and comfort. They do a great job with them even our new to groom puppy. Fantastic place. Only thing that’s a negative is parking. However the trouble is worth it I’d say.

This place is awesome and all the people that work there give great service. Everyone there loves my dog Diesel. He gets groomed there and once a month the mobile vet is there. I trust everyone at City Dog with my dog and they bend over backwards to help us.

My little husky is a gentleman, but he is absolutely not a fan of his feet or hips messed with. Every other groomer we have tried either lets him get away with it or doesn't do a great job with his nails and back end because he starts to wiggle around and talks back. This was my first time at City Dog and I was impressed from the moment I made my appointment all the way through until I checked out. Making the appointment was very easy, clear instructions were given, polite phone etiquette, and patient with questions I had. Checking in was a breeze as well and I enjoyed wandering the little store front checking out what goodies they carry. Maritza was our bather today (specifically requested) and she was absolutely amazing with my pup! Very gentle and sweet with him and doesn't let him have his way no matter how much he back talks...and he loves her. Gary was very friendly and easy going. Enjoyed chatting with him. I will be bringing another husky in for their bath services with Maritza. Parking can be iffy around this area, but not impossible on a weekday. I did like their security measures should a dog try to escape, there is a small gate inside the main door AND a taller gate with a latch on the street outside the main entrance. This attention to safety made me feel comfortable with my choice to bring my pup.

I have been taking my dog here for 3 months and it is AMAZING. Not only do they have a full selection of goodies for sale inside the store, the grooming service is what brings me in the door monthly. Wanda is my pup's groomer and she does such a great job!! Shes very caring and always asks what cut or style. The grooming is also pretty quick, my dog is ready in about 1-2 hours. My baby comes back looking dapper every time.

I have been coming here for 12 years! I no longer live downtown and happily drive to be with such a thoughtful, professional, and an all around great team to work on my geriatric pug and 4 year old Boxer. Jasmine is my all time favorite groomer and Gary the owner is just as awesome. Each of the staff takes time to check in with their human customers and treats each of their pet customers as if its their own. Their boutique is always changing with fantastic selections of food, seasonal apparel, and engaging toys to keep you coming back. I'd love to see this little shop grow into an even larger space to accommodate their high-traffic business. If you haven't been here yet you're seriously missing out!

They rudely insisted that my long-haired cat was "matted" and would need shaved, so they wouldn't groom her (despite the fact that I regularly maintain her coat at home, especially as she's gotten older). Concerned, I took her to our vet at VCA, who said that she absolutely was not matted and wouldn't need shaved, and she didn't understand why the groomers would say that. So the City Dog groomers were either mistaken or lying; either way, I suspect that they're just not equipped with the knowledge to deal with long-haired cats, and I ended up bathing her myself with good results. Definitely do not recommend, at least for this type of cat.

Regrettably, I have to downgrade my rating to one star. While the grooming service itself was decent, I am highly disappointed with the lack of transparency in their billing practices. The groomer did a satisfactory job with my dog, but the overall experience was overshadowed by an unexpected charge for the grooming service that was never communicated to me beforehand.This lack of clarity and communication regarding additional fees is unacceptable. It's disheartening when you expect a straightforward transaction and end up with an unpleasant surprise on the bill. I hope they address these issues to improve the customer experience in the future.

TERRIBLE GROOMING AND CUSTOMER SERVICE. There is a quarter sized bald spot on the back of my dog + chopped up face, ears, and tail. She looks horrible and the manager was defensive, rude, and denied any responsibility for the services provided. Have been going there for years but they lost a customer today. Don’t trust them with your pet.

Let me start by saying my dog Bleu HATES getting his nails trimmed and fights with all his might. The ladies at City Dog didn’t let this deter them. The got the job done but did it with care and love. This was not just a job to them, they tried to comfort him and run his belly and talk to him. I recommend this place to anyone with a scared or overly crazy dog. Thank you ladies!

We love this place. Our dog is groomed by Saul, who is a master of his craft. Our crazy stinky dog is tough to work with, but they do a great job keeping him calm. Better than that though, he cuts his hair perfectly. Attached is a picture of the pup happy with his new look. I strongly recommend this business for your dog grooming needs.

When I dropped my dog off there for his first grooming appointment I asked for his paw pads, tail, and sanitary area to be trimmed. I NEVER mentioned a full body clip. I come to pick him up and find that his ENTIRE coat of guard hairs has been clipped leaving his undercoat exposed. I was in shock when I saw him. This completely messes up a double coated dog’s fur, and I would expect a groomer to know this. My dog is now more susceptible to sunburn and less able to regulate his body temperature.

I did a self wash for my dog next to the dog groomers who were grooming a husky breed of dog. The groomer was EXTREMELY rough using a furninator to comb and roughly pull out the dog’s fur as the dog screamed in pain. It was especially hard to watch and listen to when he was repeatedly using the tool on his bloomers. When he stopped using the furminator for a few seconds the dog stopped screaming, tolerating the blow dry well. When he went back to using the furminator, the screaming in pain started again. I spoke with the groomer explaining that it was clear the dog was in pain but he ignored me.I then told the owner of the store what was happening and he said when my own dog is groomed with a furminator he screams the same way and sometimes poops on the wall from hating the experience so much. He said this is normal and husky’s in particular hate getting groomed.This is not normal!Anyone can google how to use a furminator tool.All websites urge you to use long slow gentle strokes, never use when wet, do not use it repeatedly in one spot, use caution on sensitive areas. The groomer was using the tool harshly repeatedly with fast strokes in the same area.I have worked at The Humane Society and currently at a wildlife rehabilitation center. I am familiar with animals exhibiting pain as opposed to stress. I have been to many groomers and this type of rough treatment is not something I have seen anywhere else.I will not be returning to City Dog and I do not recommend City Dog for grooming.

City Dog was amazing! Took my little Ember there to get her legs dyed pink and Andrea went above and beyond my expectations! They told me Andrea was really good with pink dye and they were SO RIGHT. Ember hates her paws being touched and Andrea was so patient with her. Thank you.

We have been bringing both of our dogs here for baths for about three years and couldn’t be happier with the service. They know our dogs’ traits and cater to their personalities accordingly. They are great with confirming appointments and calling when the dogs are ready. Highly recommend them for any bath and de-shedding needs! Also have a great store with any needs for your dogs.

My dog is petrified of nail trims and is a very difficult client. Other dog groomers have been unable, or unwilling to trim my dog's nails. The staff here were wonderful, and able to safely secure my dog to proceed with the treatment. They were so fast at getting the trim completed, it reduced the stress on my dog dramatically. Highly recommend this dog groomers!!

My dog, Toby, and I went to City Dog in the East Village area of Downtown San Diego to buy a fresh food, My Perfect Pet. Upon calling ahead, I was helped by a very knowledgeable, upbeat and bright-voiced girl who told me to come on over they had many choices for him. City Dog is located in a vibrant part of the city near the ballpark. This explained my competition for parking spaces on this day. However, I only circled the place three times looking for a close spot finding one. A general parking note: early in the day would be better for parking. At 6:00 all parking reverts to free, and City Dog has hours past that on most days. Additionally, they maintain a couple short-term parking spots directly in front of their store for quick trips.This little shop keeps a nice little inventory of treats, doggie clothing and dog care supplies in addition to their dog wash. When I entered the store, I found it to be immaculately kept. It smelled great, and the floor was just in the process of being mopped. I got the impression that this mopping happens several times each day by the way the staff presented themselves and was so attentive to each detail during my visit. They were very friendly, attentive and helpful to both me and to Toby (my dog). When I mentioned the friend who referred me, they knew her and HER DOG! Not only was I remembered from the morning when I called for information, salesgirl had called the owner and gathered follow-up information. I will definitely return to repurchase Toby's food and may try get there before. We are always looking for a nice place for a wash!
