I just adopted a new puppy from here and it was a great experience. The staff is friendly and welcoming and it is very clean. The adoption process was fast and easy! She is microchipped and had some of her vaccines done while at the shelter which is a big plus. They really care about the animals here and many dogs and cats need a home. I would definitely recommend coming here for your new best friend!!

My boyfriend and I currently have a 1 year-old male Blue Russian cat, who we decided needed a brother to keep him company and to play with. I went and checked out the Devore Animal Shelter since they had a deal going on for only $10 to adopt a cat. We always wanted a black cat, to go nicely with our current gray cat. My experience at the Devore Animal Shelter was great! Despite there currently having renovations done to the shelter, it was clean and well kept. I was shown around and was introduced to the cats that were currently available. I was also able to get to know and play with Neo in a room before deciding to adopt. They also gave me free toys to take home for him. The staff was friendly and Jodi was very helpful. Neo is very loving and affectionate cat. He was a little shy at first when he came home, however, within a week he opened up to us and our other cat. He is energetic, playful, and loves cat treats. He also loves to cuddle and sleep all day in his cat tree. His brother is still getting used to sharing a space with a new cat, however, we catch them grooming each other and snuggling often.

I thought it was time I write a review because I’m sort shocked at the reviews I see here. I’m from the OC area and I was looking for a companion but couldn’t find one. I tried the sb county one and it was really over crowded and not really well maintained but when I visited Devore in the summer of last year, I saw how clean it was and well maintained. It was a really hot day but they kept the mist spray on and made it properly spacious for the animals. Very clean. The staff was very kind when I visited and let me take my time and I was able to do a meet and greet. I adopted a cattle dog mix puppy. She is my best friend. My travel ride or die companion haha.My thoughts are that a majority of shelters are over crowed. So shelters are doing their best and the county websites are trying their best to promote adoptions. There is over population of cats and dogs and it’s not being regulated by the state. Seriously, look at Craigslist….it hella depressing. When I adopted the staff was super kind, offered me free supplies and spayed her.I picked her up after two weeks with no health issues. Please when you adopt do research on the breed and prepare yourself. Many of these animals have a past and require time, patience and love!Check with your landlord about which breeds are acceptable. If my research is correct, California is working on this issue of “no pets” in house complexes because of the high kill shelters. There are even doing programs in prison to help inmates rehabilitate with dogs in the jail systems. They even leave with their companion once they finish their sentence. This is my best friend 4 months and now 9 monthsThank you Devore!(It’s Julia but I named her Calypso)

Adopted a blue Pitbull puppy, & she was beautiful. Then our landlord showed us the section in our rental agreement stating that she was one of the breeds we're not allowed to have in our rental house. I called the people we bought her from asking if they would like to take her back and they could keep what we paid for her. We just wanted her to have a good home, but they never called us back so I was forced to take her to the Devore Animal Shelter. I feel so rotten about it I can't stop thinking about where she may be now & if someone decent has adopted her. Somehow I don't think that I will ever stop worrying about her. Her name was Elisha Blue and she was gorgeous. May God forgive me for leaving her alone in that place because I don't think I will ever forgive myself.

Adopted our cat Crash (formerly Maddox) from Devore and we love him already. The officers and reception staff were all very kind and cared about the animals. I hope we can continue to support this shelter. It’s a shame that people write bad reviews for “kill shelters”. It’s not the shelter that’s the problem.Grateful for these people who choose to work in a sometimes sad environment to help offset a problem created by the public’s endless dumping of animals. If you drop an animal here, yes it is likely to be euthanized. That’s on you not them.

I recently adopted a dog here. The staff were very helpful and the facility was clean. Honestly one of the best looking shelters I have been to.

They kill their animals so quickly they don't even give them a chance. Shelter could do so much better honestly the cats would be safer on the street than in this place. I know taking in a lot of animals can be rough but when a car comes in and 1 hour later is euthanized you've got a problem

I visited Devore Animal Shelter with my uncle when he was seeking to adopt a new dog. The staff were friendly throughout the process. Our hearts were smitten away with a cute puppy. We were both happy to know he had adopted a dog from the shelter. His puppy came home neutered, microchipped and received most vaccines. I suggest adopting a pet here. There are a lot of pets who need a loving home. The staff even gave him a free toy to take home for his puppy. His current German Shepherd and new puppy play well together.

Shameful place. They allow some animals to suffer. A cat was brought in April 5th. Nearly 2 weeks ago. Skin hanging off his underside. Like his entire stomach area, hanging and raw. Exposed and susceptible to infection. Was not treated or bandaged. Baby was suffering and they did nothing!!! Thank God another shelter came and got that precious baby away from these monsters. How do you sleep at night? You can't cherry pick the ones you want to care for and neglect others. Be kind and humane or shut your doors and let another shelter handle those in need.

Kris Watson, the Director of this facility had her staff MURDER a husky named Rio! This dog HAD AN ADOPTER, a rescue group who was working on transport to save him, MULITPLE EMAILS were sent communicating this to the shelter that someone wanted to adopt this wonderful, nice, calm dog who did great in playgroups and the rescue was working on reliable transport to get him out of there, but Kris Watson didn’t care, she had her staff kill him anyway!! They killed him on Monday 4/22/24 in the afternoon, when the shelter was closed, how convenient when volunteers couldn’t be there to stop it. When the rescue reached out to the shelter on Tuesday morning letting them know they had established transport for Rio, they were ignored by the shelter, it was only then when volunteers showed up on Wednesday that it was confirmed that Kris Watson had indeed, killed Rio. The staff at this shelter, esp. Kris Watson, do not care about these animals, there’s even a recent horror story of neglect with a poor cat who was sick and actually had one of its organs sticking out of its belly. There are so many more stories that I don’t have the room or the time to list them all here. The cruel and tortuous treatment these poor animals get from this kill shelter is despicable and EVERYONE working there should be fired!! If it wasn’t for the caring and loving volunteers, there would be even more deaths.

I’ve been following serval rescue groups for years and this place is a Very HIGH kill shelter . Also known as a slaughterhouse shelter . They don’t even give pets a chance to be rehabilitated or adopted they just euthanize them. Makes me sick. I’d you’re looking to adopt please consider adopting from here. There are too many deserving animals in need of love and a warm place to sleep not on a cold table ready to be put down .

Animal abusers. They left a cat in a cage with one of its organs hanging out. Literally. Have never seen anything like that before and it’s sick to neglect an animal who needs pretty obvious medical attention urgently.Disgusting! Safe to say we know where y’all who run this place are going after your time on this earth.

Shelter staff was so helpful and considerate. I traveled from Orange County to look at dogs and found one! Adoption process was quick, staff was helpful and knowledgeable and the shelter was full of adoptable dogs and cats. Definitely recommend if looking for a new best friend. Adopt don’t shop!

This shelter is horrible they need to remove every animal there for animal cruelty! A law suit needs to happen management and staff don’t care about these poor creatures! I’m sick of seeing videos of neglect a senior dog died recently due to their poor training on maintaining a dog color over her mouth she choked to death these people didn’t wan to help because of bite risk you were scare of a old dog biting you ? Hell is a hot place I hope every one of you that works there feels it you all deserve it

What happened to Rosie! The poor baby whose collar was placed wrong and clearly choking her?!?! Video has gone viral. How do you guys getaway with such cruelty and inhumane ways?!?! How do you harm small beings you are asked to care for ?!?! If you don’t have the heart for this then just stop. All you are doing is torturing animals!!! You need to be investigated and I can’t wait till you are !!

If you go to ANY San Bernadino shelter ask the staff why Frank MACOMBER wont allow blankets or PVC cut beds for the dogs.I have been in rescue for close to 9 years now and this particular shelter or pound I should call it because it is a kill pound has some of the nicest people working there! I absolutely will Network dogs out of here again just because if people are so courteous and friendly. I live an hour and a half each way from here but at least it's clean kept well and again I cannot say enough nice things about the employees! Always always adopt don't shop and spay and neuter!

We adopted a dog from the shelter after we had taken him there. Long story but they said he tried to bite someone there before we picked him up but a "behaviorist" said he was just "fearful." He got wilder and wilder the longer we had him (four weeks) and when he bit someone for trying to pet him we took him back; we said we believed he was a dangerous dog and asked that he be put down before he hurt someone worse. They argued with us and said he would instead be sent to a dog rescue the next day. The dog puts on a good act but even after four weeks with us growled and tried to bite my husband when he was changing leashes or trying to untangle the leash, although the dog walked calmly into the shelter with the attendant. We would have had a private vet put him down but they said since a bite that broke the skin was involved the dog would have to be evaluated, etc., by the County for disease. He was an Australian cattle dog, very good with large animals but not very good for a pet. So our experience was very different. I think they care about animals very much - more than they care about people's safety, and they do not take the owners' word as they should.

Very kind and helpful. Was also clean and tidy. Could level out the parking so you're not parked in settled water after a rain.

This is not a shelter. This is a SLAUGHTERHOUSE. So many cats arrive healthy and get sick in their care. They don’t care enough to clean the kennels, URI is airborne and easily spread. And to them URI is untreatable?? They are closing death’s gate on poor cats who just have sniffles comparable to the flu?? Euthanasia because of a little cold?? SHUT THEM DOWN!

while recovering from cardiac surgery went to the Devore Animal Shelter to "just see." Found my partner Taylor (GSD). 2 weeks later went back with brother and sister-in-law and they found their friend (Am Bull). It's a small shelter but the reception area/ administrators are as professional and customer service friendly as any larger shelter I have ever been to. They dog kennels are clean and the people working direct contact seem to truly want these dogs to find the right home. They had no problems allowing me to walk Taylor back to her kennel so we could complete paperwork and get her ready for the vet. Visitation area are clean and in good repair. I would recommend this shelter to others.

Adopting a shelter animal is a very emotional process. Devore Animal shelter staff was amazing! Super helpful, very knowledgeable and so kind to all of the animals in their care. The puppy we adopted was abandon in a field and brought in by Officer Echave! Thank you Devore Shelter and Officer Echave for being such incredible and caring human beings!!! We are so excited to welcome our new puppy into our family and have nothing but wonderful things to say about our experience!!

Rude, nasty, don't care for animals, has not changed, feel bad how animals are treated. They need to learn how to care for animals. Had 2 bad experiences, 1 lady from the shelter in 1998 came to us with rude additude, we have your cat, got there, was killed. She lol as i screamed at her,Mad, no words can say how painful it was. We adopted 1 dog in 1994, he was a mess, but he lived to be 20 yrs old.we have adopted 18 dogs in our life, thru other areas. And protect cats too. 🐈.

Helpful staff. The shelter is super out of the way but doesn't mean the animals or place is not taken care of. Picked up two dogs from there.

Refused to take a dog I had saved from being hit by a car! Because it was out of their jurisdiction? but they were the only shelter open the Sunday before Labor Day so I had taken this big dog home with me and he ended up running off. I hope he is okay.

DO NOT TAKE ANIMALS HERE. This is a shelter with high kill rates. Those poor dogs and animals didn’t have a chance to live a good life and it makes me sick to my stomach.

They take pride in neglecting animals. Do not bring your pets here unless you want them to reach the end of their lives. High desire for blood at this high kill shelter
