Warning! deception!: Under new ownership. This place is totally unrelated to the old Salida Country Kitchen. It's a trick they are pulling on people by retaining the same name... First of all, the place was very messy and the salt and pepper shakers had lots of dirt all over the top of it, the back was full of boxes and it didn't feel clean. Second, the food was very tasteless and amateur. I got the Vietnamese chicken sandwich and it tasted like it had rotisserie chicken meat in it. It had the flavor of a rotisserie chicken from Foodmax and the chicken was very tough. My wife ordered the ham and cheese omelette. It was pretty much tasteless because although they used a good amount of cheese and ham but it tasted and looked like they just put the ham and eggs into the pan at the same time without browning the ham first. Because they have many things on the menu they are not making a lot of things from scratch. It wouldn't be so bad if it didn't have the name of Salida country kitchen which used to be a very delicious restaurant where everything was made expertly. They should change their name. When we came in and we expected the Salida country kitchen and it wasn't we felt like we were trapped so this restaurant is kind of like a trap. Be careful. If this restaurant was honest they would not use that name and they would not use the same Google reviews and Yelp account because the old owner's success has nothing to do with what they're doing now.The positive is that the owners were very nice and generous however in a creepy uncomfortable sort of way. Definitely never coming back here. The only good thing was the hash browns which tasted real crispy like they deep fried them. By the way, there is no more chicken fried steak challenge.

Can’t wait to go back! This is the kind of small town, family owned and operated diner that made California great! Everything was tasty, fresh and a great value! They have a donut counter that you just can’t ignore. Plus, there’s tons of cool knickknacks to look at on the walls so you’re never board while you wait for your breakfast or eat. Somebody very creative has built a number of miniature models of homes and other buildings all made from tiny bits of wood. It’s really a cool spot!

I have been wanting to try their breakfast for a while. My first impression as I walked is was I am at a doughnut shop. The only server there greeted me with what sounded like, “Find a seat”. I did not know if she was actually talking to me because she made no eye contact and was talking as she past by real quickly. I usually have great experiences when I eat out in regards to service. This experience wasn’t a good one. I can’t say enough about customer service. And this server has NO people skills! This server alone, will drive customers away.As far as the food goes, it wasn’t bad. But it wasn’t spectacular either. The menu had masking tape over so many choices. I usually look at Google before I go to a new place and look at all the pictures of food. What I wanted they only had in a much smaller portion.I always want to be fair with my reviews. I only like to give 5 and 4 star reviews. I take into consideration that we are human and have bad days. I really don’t think this is the case.

Not terrible but they could do a LOT better if they tried even a little; they don't have much competition nearby except from a chain (Perko's). They could really clean up a few things like water quality and add maybe 2-3 cheap healthy items on their menu. I get it this is an old school greasy spoon -and their country fried steak is decent by the way as is their gravy- but people also look for more heart-healthy stuff these days. Tofu and mushrooms are super cheap and adding a vegan or vegetarian scramble to their "specials" menu should be easy. Their pancakes are very plain here but their omelets are good; they will make one with egg whites if you ask.

Fantastic little family- owned place, they do a little of everything here! I ordered the Chicken Fried Steak and Eggs and everything was done right: 2 crisply fried patties drenched in white sausage gravy laced with a heavy dose of black pepper, eggs sunny-side and crunchy hash browns. Jacky was super-nice and attentive. Locals wandered in and greeted Jacky by name. Rest of the family came cruising in as i was leaving, boy's arms loaded up with supplies for the day. Local and Family-owned are the best!

I can't give enough praise and accolades for this place. Jackie "the cook" is friendly and on top of his game. The place is loved and looked after as it is a family run diner. If you have the time, get there early and enjoy a great tasting breakfast with a conversation.

Wonderful sevice feel like family when walking in. They had a fresh pot of decaf coffee made for us that is delicious. My fiance and I had the Chicken club with stack fries and I had the Kountry Omlet with hashbrowns and a pancake. Can't wait to have dinner here later.

Best "kountry" fried steak in the valley. Absolutely massive steak topped with a delicious white gravy, that comes with a biscuit, potatoes (country fries or hash browns) and eggs. The restaurant has a true home town feel and the friendliest and fastest service you can find for a sit down restaurant.

My fiance and I were debating on where to have brunch before heading back to the bay area. We saw this little family owned spot and decided to give it a try. Right before we walked in, there was another family who had an elderly women needing assistance to walk in. The owner of the shop (Jacky) immediately came out to assist and opened the door for them. When we walked in, we were greeted with a big smile and a warm welcome. We sat ourselves and chose the smaller table because we wanted to leave the bigger tables for larger parties. When the wife came to take our order she insisted that we move to a bigger table so we have more room. Jacky insisted as well so we did end up moving. We ordered the chicken fried steak and a pork Vietnamese sandwich. The bread of the sandwich was super warm with a nice crust. Sandwich was delicious, chicken fried steak was great as well. However, the biggest highlight is the hospitality of Jacky. He respectfully asked if he can conversate with us and I said, sure. Our conversation was super nice; talking about family and our history. He is super easy to talk to. I can tell Jacky is man of high character and respect for everyone.During our conversation, Jacky was talking about how there were other donut shops and Mexican bakery down the street. Instead of saying that he has to compete with them, he said that we all share the customers. This statement here is what really did it for me when it comes to figuring out what kind of person Jacky is. Such a humble and genuine guy. I wish nothing but success for Jacky and his family restaurant. Jacky really deserves for his business to thrive, so I highly recommend the local community and travelers to come here to try the amazing food and perhaps get to know a really great guy. There is no doubt that if I'm ever in the area, looking for food, that I will be coming here! Thank you so much for an amazing experience Jacky!

I ate here because it was convenient. Not much to look at so I wasn't expecting much. Upon entering, a guy was leaving with a huge smile and offered, "Best burger ever." I wasn't in the mood for burgers and looked for chicken tenders. I told the woman behind the counter I didn't see them on the various menu boards and to my surprise, they had them. And I kid you not, this off-menu item was literally the best I've had. The breading was perfect. Barely crispy and remarkably consistent. The chicken was tender and moist. It came with more than enough ranch dressing and a side of fries. Not just fries... perfect fries. Not overcooked. Not soggy. Again, barely crispy on the outside and pillowy soft inside. Better than any fast food chain. When I was done, the woman offered me a free donut. It was very good. Not the greatest, but above average.I realized, next time I am passing through Salida, I really want to stop and try the best burger ever.
