I went in to read the bad reviews for this place, all has to do with the shop being closed and what not…this place is AMAZING. I was buying Sande Plywood (1/2”) from HD for 45$ a pop, this place had imported Birch for ~35$, and the quality of their Birch is better by miles.Clean place, prices on the racks. Great customer service (this is not the place to come and ask a million questions, do your research then go, the guys seem really busy, but still helpful.)Will be back very soon!

Took a while to find a lumber dealer with a quality selection and good service. They also have a cutting service for $1 a cut that was a huge time and effort saver. I won't go anywhere else.

Great selection and pricing! You'll find a wide variety of 4/4 to 8/4 domestic and exotic hardwoods, including lots of beautiful black walnut boards and grade A-1 plywood. I've learned of other places across the country charging quite a few more dollars per board foot for this stuff.I'm a somewhat newer woodworker, but after a little travel and looking at lumber in other locales, I learned that hardwood retailers like Hughes are few and far between. We're lucky to have them! It'll be a sad day when I move.

Great experience today.My first visit to the store, I'm Chico resident and generally shop at the Chico Hughes. After a bad experience today with the Chico store, i found myself in Rancho Cordova. I was able to get all the materials that i needed. They were more than happy to sell me all i wanted, there was no need for a secret handshake or password to unlock the 3/4" birch prefinished.

Just got back from my first visit to Hughes Hardwoods and man was I impressed! What a great selection of different hardwoods and plywood! Staff was all super helpful and knowledge, picked my plywood, they had it cut for me quickly and was a decent price! I could be happier to have found this place, I will be getting all my wood from Hughes from now on!

Great selection of wood and very helpful staff. We replaced all of our old base floor and door molding with 1" x 3" Maple. (Pictured are both Maple and the darker Walnut, which we used in 1 bathroom) We hand picked the wood and Hugh's cut it to 3" inches wide. At home I lightly sanded it and put several coats of polyurethane on. A contractor installed the molding with a nail gun. Its a beautiful look (natural wood everywhere) for no more than typical molding at a big box store. We also recently made outdoor tables with white oak. Just biscuited the wood together, and hand planed and sanded the wood before finishing.If you're new to hard wood stores, its good to know that the wood is cut to a certain thickness, usually 1 inch (which is called 4/4ths) or thicker. However, it will vary on widths and lengths. Hughs will cut the wood to certain dimensions for a small price. Lookup the concept of "boardfoot" before going, if you'd like to understand the pricing, but they'll explain it. Its basically the cost of a 1 inch thick board that's 12 inches square.

My husband went to Hughes to get cherry wood to build a changing table for our great-niece expected next month. He can't stop talking about this place! Firstly, he was impressed the moment he walked in. The place was clean, dry, and organized like no other wood store he's ever been in! The employees who helped him find what he was looking for, answer a couple of questions, and check him out were friendly and knowledgeable. Finally, the wood was top notch! He easily found some excellent pieces to build this gift for our family's rainbow baby! Great business!

It would be nice and helpful if you can also update google or your telephone voice message. I made a mistake of not looking at your website but at google and voice message. Drove 18miles only to find out the store was closed on labor day weekend saturday. While i waited, another customer showed up..making same mistake.

This is the only store I will buy my woodworking supplies from. The best selection and price. One stop shopping for all my cabinet building. But the best part of this store is the staff. Everyone there is extremely helpful and very knowledgeable. The entire staff is always willing to help and give some great advice when I have questions. This is the only wood store I would ever recommend to someone. No matter what your woodworking experience, buy your supplies at this store, you won’t be disappointed.

Absolutely love this place. Fantastic selection, great quality, great service. They can rip and plane boards as well which is incredibly helpful. AMAZING SHOP! My wife and I run a small woodworking business 3 hours away from Hughes Hardwoods. The hardwood shop near us is unfriendly, unreliable and just unpleasant to shop at. Hughes prices are VERY fair and they have anything you could need to create a beautiful project.We will gladly take the 3 hour drive and spend our money at Hughes to support a family owned business.

Excellent selection of lumber that you will pay a little more for, but the quality I believe is worth it. The employees here seem fairly knowledgeable about the different types of wood. Watch your wallet here it's very easy to spend a lot of money without realizing it.

This is probably the best place in the Sacramento area to buy exotics and hardwoods from sizes 1to 2 inches in thickness. The stock of hardwood is steady but some of the exotics vary depending on supply. The prices vary but seems to be cheaper than most other places in town.
