Excellent restaurant with a truly remarkable atmosphere and top-notch food. The drinks and the salad were truly outstanding, whereas the burgers and fish were very good but not superlative. Next time we visit, probably will stick to the small plates, which may be the best dishes at an already excellent restaurant. Great for dates and fancy nights out.

If you want a taste of classic, old world steakhouse (and so much more!) doing it the same way they did generations ago, this is the place for that experience. Service perfection, attention to detail. The prices are fair and reasonable, certainly matching the quality. When you are in Port Costa, you won’t find a better here experience. Can you really get a better meal for a better price in all of the Bay Area? Nope! Everyone should get to experience this classic, magical meal.

Everyone should make the trip to this tiny historic corner of California. Huge culinary cocktail list, menu full of smoked options and lovely flavors. Fried chicken is tasty with just the right crunch and succulent white meat. Pork chop tender and enjoyed. Although I don’t prefer the smoky taste my the group did and the meat was cooked to perfection. Best of all was the friendly and helpful waitstaff, especially Jamie who was so patient as she described multiple drinks and entrees with a delightful smile. We dined outside in the garden with a heat lamp. Inside is chock full of history and taxidermy. Just go and enjoy.

Great place to go for good food.We had the grilled squid with butter beans, the wild mushrooms toast, cod and lemon pudding cake. The fish toast was excellent with sunny side up egg. The cod was well plated and balance. Fish was moist not dried out. However my friend’s stomach did not agree with her after an hour. The atmosphere is good , however a few things bugs me.A) the dining table for 2 is awful small. You spend most of your time rearranging the table to fit or hope the server notice to take off the plates.B) the use of Lysol or some table wiping down at the adjacent table make the aroma a bit disconcerting when eating is also a sensory experience.I would like to give this place another try but the drive up and down long winding road of highway 4 with no lights is a deal breaker to enjoy a pleasant meal.

I liked almost everything I ate. The fried chicken was underwhelming for the price. Parking was dark and unorganized. The wings were amazing. Beer selection also great. The drive there is crazy so if you’re having a drink get a designated driver.

Very thing we had was amazing. The grilled avocado dish was my favorite. Cocktails were on point and a nice variety to choose from. The main course for us was the fried chicken which was decent, had a good level of spice which was nice but something about the breading left it holding onto a little too much of the frying oil. Still all the same it was delicious so I'm reaching for critique. Our server was from Oakland and provided friendly service and good explanations to our questions. We ate on the outdoor patio under the redwood tree but the interior of the restaurant was very interesting and if we had more time hanging out at the bar would have been cool. Definitely recommend this place 👌

Totally off the beaten path, but a cool place with an old-time vibe. They have an extensive drink menu of beers, ciders, wines, and cocktails and specialize in pre-prohibition style drinks. We came for brunch and the food was delicious. They suggest ordering family style so between 3 of us we split 2 large dishes, 1 side, and 1 dessert. The chicken and waffles, pork chop, and mac & cheese were all elevated from what you might typically expect. Plenty of food and the service was very attentive and friendly.

What more can i say about this little gem? I wish it were closer to me, but worth the schlep over to Port Costa. The drinks and brunch are amazing, and when open (seasonal) the outdoor patio is cute AF with a little creek running near the restaurant. The menu changes often, but JFC do they have good stuff on there every time! I came back three weekends straight just to try the chilaquiles, shrimp and grits, and this toast with anchovy and egg (which i couldnt get enough of, btw!).The service is nice, the interior is so so very cute and cozy - it feels like you're in a different era.

COVID ERA - Got a chance to get outside and visit Port Costa, CA. Had a great time down there and stopped by Bull Valley for lunch. It was amazing. Really fresh meat in my burger, great Japanese vinegar fries and beer. Great service too. Came once before a couple years and had a great experience then. Perfect quite outdoor seating. Highly recommend!

An out of the way hole in the wall, just the way we like it. The decor is Western and charming. The food was very good with great serving size and definitely comforting. Service was a bit of a challenge when we went last but in general is good. Will be back to try different cocktails and dishes

Fun town. Delicious food. The chicken sandwich could of been one piece(easier to eat) versus two smaller strips of chicken. The salad was actually the best dish. Excited to come back for dinner!

What a place! It felt like we went back in time. The food was amazing. As we are vegetarians - we only ordered all veg from their menu. The drinks were refreshing. Along with food this place has a rustic vibe. Loved the location and interiors of this place.

Stopped by for a cocktail and a snack. The drink was excellent and the wings we had were quite good as well. My Lady also tried one of their many versions of eggnog and was impressed. They have a spacious outdoor area for seating that allows for social distancing. Worth checking out if you're near Port Costa.

A place that I will return to for sure. The drinks were delicious. We got a couple pre-prohibition/ post prohibition cocktails that I want try again. The food was star of the day. My steak was just like I ordered it. The pork chop was perfect. Macaroni and cheese was also really good. The the staff was really nice. I love the ambience, its my style!

Decided to have lunch with my better half slightly of the beaten track. Had heard of the place, but never been. Driving into Port Costa is an experience in itself, a beautiful slice of Americana.Bull Valley Roadhouse is an eclectic place. Friendly and helpful staff. Good menu choices and great cocktail and wine list.Settled for a mezcal cocktail and some Sancerre. Oysters, beet poke and fries to share. All made just right.Finished off with lovely French press coffee, almond cake and dessert wine. All in all a great afternoon spent.

We loved the "old" Bull Valley before there was major changes. In fact, it was our favorite restaurant in the Bay Area. So, our expectations are very high. We worried that the restaurant wouldn't be as good because many of our favorite dishes are no longer on the menu. To be clear, the experience is very different than it was and that was disappointing. The Old menu was more family style. I would say overall it isn't as good as it was. But, the food was delicious. And we will definitely go back.

Wonderful service with beautiful surroundings. Amazing turn of last last century architecture with the history of Port Costa on full display.Food and drinks are very good and I saw no issues worth bringing up. Go and enjoy.

Located in the quaint town of Port Costa, Bull Valley Roadhouse is a quirky, casual, and unique destination. We started off with drinks and the very enjoyable Backyard Bubbly. We had the Grilled Caesar which we didn't like because it was a bit stringy and not enough traditional Caesar taste - the anchovies were also too crunchy. The Mussels and Fries were delicious and drizzled with bright aioli sauce - perfect dipping starter! We had the Crispy Buttermilk Fried Chicken entree, and while the meat was done to perfection, we thought it was a bit on the salty side. The jalapeno jam did give it some needed punch! The wait staff were very friendly and attentive, while the Ambience was romantic and rustic. Although, the music level was a bit high in the annex.

Great ambiance, decent menu, interesting cocktails. A bit like you're traveling to different time. Tha food is good, not great, I understand it's all about the fried chicken.

Love having cocktails here whenever I’m in town. It’s one of my favorite places when I’m home to have a good cocktail close by and the staff and bartenders are so nice always feel like we’ve been friends for years.Vegetarian options: I’ve asked because my partner is vegan that they said that they will make anything into a vegan meal if we ask

The fried chicken alone is worth the trip. Great pre-prohibition cocktails. Beautifully restored saloon bar. This week won't be the last they'll see of us.
