After a long hike, we stopped by the resort for a cold beverage. We found the grocery store fully stocked with just about everything for your camping/hiking needs. Then, we poked our heads into the bar. The atmosphere was down home and welcoming. We struck up conversations with other patrons and with Justine, who runs the place. We ended up eating dinner right at the bar!The food was delicious and served quickly. The beer was cool and refreshing. All in all, a very unexpected and fun place to stop at!

If you are looking for a campground with amenities in the forest this is the perfect spot. This is the second year I have camped here. The campground host is friendly and has a fun bar where there is a wide selection of beer and alcohol.A previous guide shared that their food was not good. I ordered food twice and both times the food was above average. Keep in mind this is a camp ground not a high-end restaurant. I thought the review was unfair but it isn't my review so I digress. There is a small store packed with essentials. The showers were spotless just make sure you bring plenty of quarters. Ice house reservoir is close and Tahoe is about a half hour.I will be staying here again as we have an annual UPS driver trout tournament here each year.

I have been going to sunset Campgrounds for over 40 years and know Julie and Bob, the owners of Ice House Resort, for the same period of time. The place is friendly, archaic, wacky, full of love, history, and fun.The bar is iconic and a must-see when visiting, and the campground is inviting. Please visit, and you will return, as we have, year after year!

I was very pleasantly surprised that while I could pick up ice and some supplies we needed from the store, but was also able to get a California Fishing License here. That was a nice surprise and prevented us from having to drive into Placerville to get one.

Yes, it's overpriced... the store, the cafe and I'm also going to guess the bar. That being said, they have just about everything you need that you forgot at home or get a random hankering for while camping. I specifically made this review to include photos of the cafe menu since none have ever been posted. The whiteboard specials are a rotating selection but the paper menu is year-round. I'm not sure if they have a separate paper breakfast or dinner menu since I went during lunch time.

Cafe- breakfast was excellent; great service, omelet was tasty. A bit pricey, but not that much more than, say a Dennys...and they've got to make a living.

Bacon cheeseburger and fries was ordered - bacon was rock hard, inedible, not burnt more like a word piece of meat. Cheeseburger was basic frozen patty and cheap bun. Veggie toppings were trash.Ordered a whiskey with 7-up. Got a small glass full to the brim of ice with a splash of whiskey and the rest 7up. Gone in one drink. Ordered a second and asked for way less ice. Got less ice, the same amount of alcohol and more 7up to fill the glass. The bartender is definitely somebody who's never worked at a busy bar.One meal and two drinks was $31, yikes.Parking: Lots of parking because nobody's ever thereKid-friendliness: Not friendlyWheelchair accessibility: No access

Been eating here since the 1970s; still love the place. Great bar, great chile Verde, great shrimp Alfredo, great burgers and fries. The apple crisp, peach crisp, and blueberry crisp are amazing and unique to this place. Made like a cobbler, the top crust is made from oatmeal. Been enjoying this dessert for years and years. Never had anything like it. If you like your shrimp to pop when you bite into it, their chef is the best. Also great for breakfast, also great for lunch. Any time we come up to spend a day in the forest, we cap it off with dinner here.I'd like to respond to comments about pricing: THIS IS A RESORT! Over the 45+ years that I've been eating here, the price charged has always been worth the quality they deliver! Also, you couldn't find a friendlier place for dinner and drinks.Parking: Lots of open parking for cars, trucks with boats, trailers, etc.

Got ice and firewood for camping elsewhere. I was successful and had no complaints. I was treated as a tourist which is fair and I appreciate the generosity offered to strangers.

Nice, large campsites within walking distance to reservoir. Pit bathrooms were cleaner then I expected. No showers and awkward back-in only parking at the sites. We waited about an hour for our neighbor to move his truck and boat out so we could set up camp. Camp hosts were friendly and helpful. Stars at night were amazing.

When I was 12, I was severely beaten by my caretaker. Julie, the owner of Ice House, rescued me. She took me in and cared for me for 3 days until my family came for me. I cry every time I return to visit. The store, the bar, the campground all have a magical mystical feeling for me. Julie is a special person. Obviously my review is partial. Many people love the resort and leave wonderful reviews. But, when I read reviews complaining about minor annoyances, I felt obligated to share my story. Besides the economic and logistical reasons for setting a particular price. I wonder if you'd complain about the price of your bread or beer at a store operated by a woman who has saved more than one child. Julie is a hero. The public should be leaving donations to her.I love this place. It saddens me to see the fire so close. Pray for ice house. Pray for Julie and family.

So I was a bit leary about this place due to reviews I had read. Went into the store and knew that the reviews weren't quite accurate and decided to come later for dinner. Amazing staff. Food was excellent. Friendly. Wonderful to us and even more so with our daughter. This is NOT a rest stop to just run in and use their bathroom. Go in, sit and eat. Enjoy the history on the walls. Enjoy the people who own this as well, we did.

We spent 4 days camping in this nice place. Plenty room for everyone, clean, safe for kids and pets. Nice little river w/nice clear and cold water very near to the sites. Lots of room for walking and recreation. I wish can give 5 stars but the porta potties are only 3 for the whole camp site.As the weekend approaches the place starts getting crowded and the potties weren't enough

Not the fault of the owners, but would be nice if people would clean their cigarette butts and menstrual pads instead of leaving them around the trails and such. Campgrounds were really clean, even the bathrooms, and well maintained. Great time relaxing at the lake. Didn't see any snakes or bears either year. Second year in a row vacationing here, it was awesome.

Beautiful and scenic. Picnic area is super rocky so be sure to bring water shoes or something that will allow you to walk without killing your feet. Water was nice. Also rocky. Only a porta potty for restroom use so pack in anything you will need.

The owners are super friendly and the scenery is breathtaking on 2 accounts. Highly recommend this to any one of my friends. But my friends are alittle rough around the edges but you gotta love them and this place.

Beautiful venue for a wedding I recently attended! Great access for everything when camping, great people and smooth Event! I would recommend this spot as a must stop for anyone passing through. Don't forget to checkout the two lakes on either side!!

The store at icehouse is run by the most horrible people I have ever met. Not only were the items outrageously overpriced, they were rude, unhelpful, and never even a thank u when we spent $300. The kicker is we ran over a nail in their parking lot and needed air, they refused to turn on the air compressor because we didn’t buy gas (which is against the law) I suggest to everyone who visits the beautiful campground and reservoir to do their shopping before you go, and never set foot in the store. I give the store 1 star because I can’t go any lower.

Nothing extravagant, but everything was very fresh. Had the turkey sandwich and a salad. The atmosphere was phenomenal. Will definitely hit this place up each chance I get when I'm back in the area.

We disapproved of the crowded campground where we had a reservation. Siri misdirected us to a desired destination. Went looking for a site. End of day approaching. Saw Ice House road and fo,lowed uphill to this resort. Got a spot with hook ups, fire ring, table. Plus store/office, restaurant for delicious breakfast, people with lots of dogs and happy kids. We had our two dogs who earlier in the day swam in Lake Tahoe. Was great. Slept well in beautiful country.

Prices are kinda high, but what do you expect from a high mountain resort. Owners and staff are friendly, the burgers are great, especially after a couple days on the Rubicon trail, that is just up the road by another beautiful lake called Loon Lake. Ice House Lake and Union Valley reservoir also have some great fishing and camping areas. Small moth bass fishing at Union is always pretty good.

Service was awesome. The rooms were clean and well kept. The food, at the cafe was very good, as well as the service. The little store was a bit pricey, but if you needed, just the basic necessities, they had them.
