The lighthouse is amazing, the museum is really interesting, and the cottages/housing on site were great. Everything in them has been recently updated and they're well kept. There are some great walking trails around.Rooms: The rooms were great, they are well kept and recently updated.Nearby activities: The town of Point Arena is very small. There are walking trails accessible from the lighthouse.Walkability: It's not very close to any amenities. I recommend doing all shopping before getting south of Mendocino (if you're coming from the north).

Great experience climbing up the lighthouse. Definitely worth it, but I wish it was a sunny day so that I could see further. It was a rainy day, so the waves were very active.Safety: Very safe. Lots of tourists and families.Walkability: The lighthouse climb was high, so be prepared for lots of steps.Noteworthy details: Fresnal lens was impressive.

I just visit museum and the top of the lighthouse, tour guides are kind, polite, patient and the most important knowledgeable. Also need to mention the main gate ticket seller lady is also very kind, I enjoyed the quick 20 min tour on that specific weather condition, the lighthouse and around stories was epic, I will come back for a few days summer time stay. 145 steps to top but, don’t worry there are four stop levels.Noteworthy details: Don’t miss it, unique and part of history.

Damn! Dum! Damn! What an amazing experience to stay at this lighthouse! We've never stayed at a lighthouse before and it was a unique, cherishing and beautoful experience. I would definitely recommend people to consider a short stay here and we would defintely be coming back here for another one.The lighthouse area is a few miles off the Point Arena city which makes you feel totally secluded on the edge of the coast and the atmosphere is very pristine. The room was comfortable with all the necessary amenities and the view from the window was breathtaking.

We made a short visit to this lighthouse and came back very impressed with the views and history associated with this lighthouse. There is a small museum and gift shop where one gets to know about the importance and rich history of this lighthouse and how the technology of sending light beams and signals to seafarers kept on changing with time. Some of the old machinery and other interesting memorabilia is kept in this place and one can buy some relevant gifts. We went up the 145 steps of the lighthouse and were rewarded with spectacular views all round. We could see many species of birds and seals during our visit. On other days, people have been lucky to see whales, dolphins and other marine life. There is ample parking space and clean toilets for convenience. All in all an interesting place to visit!

Possibly one of the best getaways in Northern California! I spent three nights in the Keeper's Room and wished I could stay a whole week. The views are breathtakingly beautiful, even from the bedrooms. The only sound I heard in my roomwas the sound of the crashing waves outside. It's like the romantic ideal of staying at a lighthouse. I didn't see any whales or even Mina the cat, but I did see plenty of interesting water fowl. The people who work there are extremely friendly and helpful and of course, the lighthouse and small but incredibly informative and well done museum behind the gift shop are fascinating. Good food and more NorCal friendliness can be found in town, just a short drive away.

The rooms were very clean and the views were amazing. The staff that worked at the lighthouse were very attentive and helpful. We did the lighthouse tour and the view was amazing from up top. The only thing we didn't like about the room is for a place that is all about the outdoors there is very little to do outside of seeing the lighthouse. We stayed the required two nights and it would have been nice if they had some outdoor games set up like horseshoes, cornhole, or something of the sort. When you are traveling with young kids, it is tough to keep them occupied on view alone. There is also no beach access available that we saw so we couldn't take them to put their feet in the water.

We were going there by a total mistake. It was one of the best places we could visit and we could not even imagine how cute and nice this visit was. Staff was just super nice. Thank you for showing us the lighthouse. It was just amazing.

We visited the Point Area Lighthouse on a weekday in June 2023. It was nice. We decided not to go inside the lighthouse to get a better view. But we were a little tight on time, so we compromised and visited, but didn't do the inside tour.Entering the park, they charged people $5 per person just to enter the park. Then they charge you another $5 for the tour of the inside of the lighthouse. So that would be $10 per person total. Although I have no problem paying for the tour. I feel that it's a little nit picky to charge people just to enter the park. But it is what it is.The light looks in good shape. It takes some decent pictures. And the grounds are good. But I have been to a lot of light houses over the years. I have to admit that I like the lighthouses on the east coast better, especially in New England. But that's just me.The grounds also has a building with displays and of course, a gift shop for folks wanting souvenirs. They also do have restrooms in its own little building. I guess the other buildings are some kind of inn that you can stay in, but I'm not sure on the particulars. All in all, the Point Arena Lighthouse is a nice light worth visiting. But I have to admit that I like the view from down the road better with the coast as part of the view or picture. That one is also free.

I visited this lighthouse in late August in 2022, and this place was amazing! The property was clean, no trash around the property, the gift shop had many cool items, and the lighthouse staffs were amazing! They are nice and provide service to questions that you asked. The lighthouse cat was really cute, it comes around once a while near the front of the gift shop, and it’s really social and friendly! I paid the ticket to go up the lighthouse with my group, and the price was worth it! Not only you get to see the amazing design of the lighthouse, you can also get an amazing view! You get to see the ocean, the land, and whales if you’re lucky! Dolphins appear sometimes, too, but seals appear the most. I can say every time you visit there you’ll always see a seal. After I visited the lighthouse, i walked on the trails around the lighthouse, and it was very nice. I would defiantly recommend you to visit this beautiful place, you will not regret it.

Beautiful location with well priced rooms. The lighthouse gift shop and museum are well maintained and very informative. The rooms themselves show some humidity related damage. However, they're very comfortable! Most nights you'll hear the wind off of the ocean howling against the building. The sound proofing between the rooms isn't the best and we could hear our neighbors talking.Walkability: You will need a car to get to any local restaurants or shopping.

There’s a fee to visit the museum/gift shop and a separate fee to climb up to the lighthouse. If you wonder where the lamp or the lens when you get up to the lighthouse, it’s in the gift shop/museum!We came here early September and it was a nice day until it was our time to get up to the lighthouse when the fog rolls in and didn’t see anything up there but it was still a good experience.Plenty of parking and you can opt to park outside the gate and walk your way in which is what we did.
