During our last visit to San Luis Obispo, we stayed in Pismo Beach and dropped by Steaming Bean for coffee and breakfast. It was busy but the service was excellent and although we had to wait for a short while for the food, it was also excellent. I loved the back patio and we sat out there for a while enjoying the morning. A highlight for me was seeing a Sunbeam Tiger pull into the parking lot below but the girls weren’t as impressed. They were impressed with the coffee and fun accessories for sale inside. We are definitely coming back here the next time we visit the area.Michael DelehantyCompass Real Estate

Excellent! Highly recommend this place if you’re in the mood for a quick bite or an amazing cup of coffee. We had the granola bowls and a couple latte coffees and they were perfect.Staff are very helpful and friendly.Great to be able to support a small business and even better when they do a great job. Thanks!

drinks are always made great and food is iffy sometimes it’s really good but not ever consistent. I live around the corner so come often but the service is always trash i’m not sure why i continue to tip when they never call my name when my drinks ready, don’t acknowledge me at the counter for pick up order, hang up on me when i call and overall ruin a great atmosphere otherwise.

A fresh new look and expanded space is a welcome vibe for this locally-owned coffee place and delicious eats. Lots of coffee and beverage selections along with a breakfast menu. The patio in back is a nice addition too. A great place for a quick business meetup or some online homework that is quiet and mellow music.

I’d had a rough day today and decided to go for a walk when I passed steaming bean. It looked very cute from the outside and the door was propped wide open so I walked in and up to the counter. The girl working, a younger brunette girl with lighter eyes (and I think a piercing?) was sweeping behind the counter. She looked directly at me and I smiled and said hello. She glowered at me for a moment, didn’t say a word, looked up at the clock on the wall (it was 3:51pm) and then turned her back to me and continued sweeping. I was confused so I stood there for almost a full minute waiting for her to turn back around or say anything to me. I wondered if they must be closed already and looked for their hours on the window, which were until 4pm today. I stood there for another while longer and she continued to sweep silently with her back to me. We were the only two people in there. She never acknowledged me and I eventually just walked out. It was a real bummer of an interaction, especially after a hard day when I was excited to try this cute place as a treat at the end of it. Won’t be trying again, they’re much kinder at the Starbucks down the road.

One of the best breakfasts we‘ve ever had. The beachside breakfast burrito was exceptional! The cafe is really cute and the service was great as well. New favourite for sure!

Service is so slowwwww. Waited 45 minutes for 2 smoothies and a toasted bagel "with cream cheese". Smoothies came out in 30 minutes and had to wait another 15 minutes for them to give me a toasted bagel "with" cream cheese. With cream cheese means they give it to you on the side. For that long of wait, I thought they would at least put the cream cheese on the bagel but instead they give you a packet of cream cheese without a knife and you'll have to go get find a knife and put it on yourself. It took 45 minutes to get a toasted a bagel! I would understand if everyone is ordering toasted bagels and the toaster is backed up but the guy only used the toaster once while I was waiting. And he seem to be making food in random order. No apology or anything about the long wait. Never coming back.

First time I came here it was late November 2023. The time was 2:55 pm and waited on barista to take my order as he was making drinks. Only 3 people waiting for drinks and food as person in kitchen was busy. At 3:05 or so barista finished drinks and took my drink order I looked at food menu and I ordered a burrito. The staff in kitchen then stated that kitchen was closed at 3:00pm. Ok I guess, as there were no posted signs on the menu stating that food was only served until a set time. The drink took average time to prepare and it was good.Second visit today, late December 2023, time was 2:45pm. Ordered a burrito and again kitchen was just closed or decided to stop serving as barista also looked at his watch to see why. At this point I walked out.Customer service means that you work to make money. So when as an employee you decide to not clearly define hours of operation making whimsical decisions to close a key component of the services provided then you are not serving the owner. With margins being tight as they are in this business, not making a sale is just unjustifiable. I like the atmosphere but service is just hit or miss. Given the wait times on the coffee I’d rather patronize another location.Good luck, smh.

Steaming Bean located on Shell Beach Rd, running next to Cabrillo Hwy.The vibe here felt like a casual coffee shop. My drip coffee and muffin were perfect for the morning. I didn’t see any umbrella on the patio so be ready for some sun. Inside had good seating too. We met a nice patron who was passing through. Good convo with coffee.I would recommend this place if you are in the area.My wife and I visited with our dog (Oskar) but they can’t allow non-service dogs (must have papers). They hope to make changes in the future.Follow our podcast “Hop to it, Our Digital Nomad Journey” by the alchemist and the shaman. Wonderful food and excellent service! I had the veggie lovers sandwich and it was great! My partner had the Mediterranean Scramble and said it was a little plain but very light and fresh. We will back!

Very cute place and dog friendly. I wish I had preferred something else though. I got the Spanish scramble and it was just scrambled eggs with salsa, avocado, and raw tomatoes on the side. The success were cold of course but I didn't like mixing all that cold into my warm eggs, it cooled my eggs off immediately. I guess I was expecting it to be mixed together and a little more substantial. It was a deconstructed scramble. I did have a bite of the breakfast burrito which was delicious! Decent self serve coffee selection.

Dang! My almond milk latte was delicious! So happy haha. Thanks guys! Milk was silky, not too frothy, not too flat. Strong espresso flavor without tasting burnt or sour. Everything felt "smooth".Staff seems chill, nice location, sunny deck out back with seating, good amount of room/seating inside, two clean bathrooms, easy & free parking on street.Parking: Free street parking

We love to walk Shell Beach and then stop for coffee at the Bean. However, since the remodel the service has taken a huge turn for the worse. The Barista is incredibly slow. It’s not unusual to order a drink and have 15 cups lined up ahead of yours - not because they are busy but because the barista is very slow. This is all a result of poor management. Other shops would have two barista’s working one machine and turning out drinks quickly. It’s disappointing to see this great shop so poorly managed. Hopefully it will change soon.

The coffee is only ok, the baristas always seem like they don't want to be there, be prepared to wait a very long time for your drink and also be prepared to have them remake your drink because they usually get it wrong the first time somehow. This has been my experience with them for years and the only reason I'd come back is because they are the only coffee shop in Shell Beach and I don't feel like driving across town to a different one.

This place was recommended to us while we were in town and we weren't ready for what we were walking into. First off, it's got that desired, hidden gem kind of feel to it when you first come upon it, like it's either going to be a magical experience or leave you wondering how it stays in business. Y'all, it was magical. Service was super pleasant, not off-putting, in your face customer service, felt like authentic human beings trying enjoy themselves and the customer. Then, I don't know how you could do anything but enjoy the food and drinks 🤤 not kidding, my favorite coffee order, so completely fulfilled everything I want in a drink, and I got a breakfast sandwich that was 1, tasty and filling, and 2, didn't feel like a gut bomb I'd have to walk off for the next half hour. I think if we were locals, I would be at the Steaming Bean way too often. Makes me jealous of locals having this gem just waiting to serve them!

We always come here every time we are in the area. It's near a park so it's nice to take our drinks and food and find a picnic spot near the waters to eat. Breakfast burritos are excellent. Coffee is ok. It's pricey, but that's how it is in these beach towns.

Lovely venue with a nice range of breakfast foods and drinks. You can take out your food, however there’s also nice seating inside and outside. The staff were efficient and friendly, getting our food quickly. Overall the quality and cleanliness were great.
