I had seen the Chimney Tree in a travel blog and planned on visiting during our trip to explore the Redwoods; however upon arrival I realized I had forgotten to research it’s exact location. As we approached Avenue of the Giants, we were grateful to stumble upon the Chimney Tree. We stopped to check out the tree and were equally impressed by the tree itself and the grill! The travel blog didn’t mention the grill and our intention was to grab lunch after exiting Ave. of the Giants. $5 beers and $12 for Hebrew National hotdog that comes with a large portion of fries is something we couldn’t pass up! The food was fresh and the service was excellent. The Ave. had a road closure that we were unaware of and the staff kindly helped us find a detour to catch most of the Ave. We spent a week in Cali and this was all done one day one. I can say it was one of the best moments of our whole trip. All of our other meals felt rushed. We enjoyed our meals outdoors and really had a chance to appreciate the beauty of our surroundings. We will definitely be back for sure! Thank you!

Great food! My family loves eating here every time we visit the Avenue of the Giants. Excellent steak sandwiches. Best onion rings I've ever had. Milkshakes are awsome. Everything is delicious. And really nice people running it. Plus the chimney tree is fun to explore. JULY 2022 - just got a steak sandwich and zucchini today. Still a great restaurant! Delicious. Back again in July with the family. We all love the food here. It was excellent again as usual.Parking: Plenty of parking. Kid-friendliness: A fun playground for the kids and the chimney tree is fun for kids and adults!

If you're hungry, stop here to eat! The food is delicious and there are excellent food menu options if you are vegetarian or gluten sensitive. Definitely treat yourself to a milkshake! I couldn't post photos bc I ate everything so fast.Vegetarian options: The garden burger was really good. Also have a mushrooms burger.Dietary restrictions: Vegetarian and gluten-free options are available.Parking: Parking is a quick pull off of the road and on gravel so drive slow. Typically enough spots available.Kid-friendliness: Swing set playground in the back amd you can walk inside a Redwood called the Chimney Tree for free!

Tasty burgers made with quality meat. Nice outdoor seating. Right next to the little restaurant is the living chimney tree which was hollowed out by burning the center. The little red door and entry into the tree was really cute. The inside is really dark with the chimney top being the only light source. It would be cool if they added some cute lighting inside the tree.

i had my reservations about going to a place that i had never been to and no one i knew had ever been to, but especially since theres very little food to be found in the area, my partner and i went for it. and, my god, we are so glad we did. the meals were great - generous portions, reasonable prices, great food. the view was great and the chimney tree itself was beautiful.i make a point to rate on a scale of lgbtq+friendliness (dangerous -> unwelcoming -> safe -> positive -> actively inclusive). this restaurant is safe-positive.

The Chimney Tree Grill in Phillipsville, California, is a charming eatery known for its unique design, delicious burgers, and decadent milkshakes. The restaurant's most distinctive feature is its location within a hollowed-out giant redwood tree, creating a cozy and rustic dining atmosphere that's truly one-of-a-kind.While savoring their mouthwatering burgers, patrons can also indulge in rich and creamy milkshakes, making for a satisfying dining experience. What sets Chimney Tree Grill apart is its proximity to the heart of the California Coastal Redwoods, allowing visitors to enjoy a meal surrounded by some of the tallest and oldest trees on Earth. This combination of natural beauty and culinary delight makes it a must-visit destination for those exploring the wonders of the Redwood Forest.

This place was a huge disappointment. The bread was hard, the condiments were self-serve and looked questionable, the burger was overcooked, and the soda was $4. The lady at the counter was coughing her brains out, and the chef was on his phone while the burgers were burning on the grill. I couldn't find the bathroom with their instructions, so I had to pee on a tree in the back. The burgers were very disappointing, especially for the price. The only positive thing about this place is the location.

Delicious Burgers and definitely quality meat. Many vegetarian and vegan options as well. Don't miss out on the ranch sauce with your fries and you can switch your fries for sweet potato fries.

Awesome tree! Worth a stop for sure. There is parking on site and there is a gift shop on site. The tree is free to go into and see.

Delicious meat and the prices are good as well the burger and fries came with (nice treat). However, I was disappointed when the burger came out as I ordered it medium rare. Came out well done. And the cheese looks like it was flopped on and not properly melted into the burger. Looks like the staff did not really care much about how I ordered the burger. The other thing that egged me about this place, is they have WiFi, but it is not available for customers to use. The lady at the register said the WiFi is only for the register. I would think in an area such as this, where there is no cell access, it would be nice to offer (I was riding through on a bicycle and would of liked to check up on a few things).

I have to be inspired to write a review. But this place is the real deal. About the best retro diner food I can remember and I’m old. Great old time menu and impeccable quality in everything they do. They even have banana splits. The burgers are large, inexpensive, and perfectly cooked. Serve your self burger fixins and all first rate. The place is clean and very quaint. Plan your day around this place. Great corn dogs, seriously!

Best place ever !!! My parents have been taking me here for 20+ years, amazing place. When i was a kid they had a Lord of the rings exhibit and trail you could walk that was super cool. The trail is closed now but they still have the chimney tree you can go in. The food is the best around. Highly recommend the steak sandwich sweet potato fries mac salad and make sure to get some pickles, the best pickles ive ever had 😭 my mom and i still go here all the time for lunch. always our favorite spot.
