Store is in need for a good clean up, but the livestock selection is great. Both the fresh and salt water section are good, the fresh water selection here usually has a wide range of rainbows, catfish, nano species, loaches, fancy goldfish, community, etc. Not much fancy shrimp/inverts other than crayfish. Overall it's worth making a trip out to see the livestock and random odd ball imports they get.

Big shop, but looks very dated and disorganized. Plants dont look great and worst of all their betta fish were in the dirtiest vases I had seen. Worse than Petco/Petsmart. Plenty of other great shops in greater LA.

Really great store. Workers are not overly pushy but will answer any questions asked. Great, beautiful, and healthy Betta selection at a MUCH better price than the chain stores. Great prices on tanks, equipment, and accessories. Will buy all my supplies here.

Steve is the best in the entire area at knowing everything about keeping fish at home. I have been going to him since 1980's in Pasadena and has the best fish stock around. He is hands on and as enthusiastic as the first day I went into his store. Steve the owner takes care of his customers the way every business should. I'm glad he has been here for so long. You can trust all your fish and aquarium questions with PTF.

I've always enjoyed going to this shop. They have a lot of stuff here. Aquariums, filters etc and a ton of fish. What I also like is that they have different fish. They sometimes have a lot of the big Bettas. It isn't the most pristine shop but they have everything you need and they are very nice an helpful. I can't leave without getting something!

This store is the best, most knowledgeable place around! Steve, the owner is so friendly & helpful & with respect, will tell you exactly what you need to know & do to start a fish wonderland of any kind & everything you need to know & do for its evolution & survival! Your only job is to listen & act! Some think he’s unfriendly but he’s not. People tend to not listen to advice & ask as if they have the answers. I’ve witnessed this. Imagine dealing with that all day. He’s a great guy if given a chance & listen to his knowledge. Believe me, he knows & has saved me a ton of money.

The owner is an honest guy and gives good advice (he doesn't force a sale).His fresh water fish selection is great. The species he has in stock vary, but they're always healthy. His plant selection isn't the best, but if you want healthy livestock this place is perfect. (I've exclusively stocked my tank with his livestock)He also has a ton of koi and larger pond fish if that's what you're looking to purchase.He has a beautiful selection of salt water fish, inverts, and a medium sized selection of coral. I am NOT a salt water hobbyist, so take this part of the review with a grain of salt.I highly recommend shopping here if you live nearby.

New fish are on sale on Sunday! I have been coming here since I was 5 and nothing has changed in the best possible way. The fish options are diverse... the plants are beautiful... plus they have lots of other options for creating a beautiful aquascaping!

Went there on a Saturday @ 5:10 pm and the sign clearly says closing @ 6 pm. Even their web-site says Saturdays 10 am to 6 pm. The store is located in a deserted shopping center with lots of For Lease signs and parking lot was super dirty. Most of the lights inside the store was off and the store is dirty & messy. It is very UN-organized , UN- professional and they are super expensive. Tanks are dirty, not maintained and fish and the fish foods are way too expensive. @ 5:30 an employee told me that they are closed and I did not bother saying the sign says closing at 6:00 pm and not to mention they still had the Neon sign saying OPEN. Wont go to this place.

I've been here twice and purchased two cories and a betta. The owner's fish are healthy and happy. Do note that fish require bacteria in their tanks to thrive, so yes the tank water smells fishy and the store is humid because it's full of water. A lot of the bad reviews are due to the "dirty" look of the store, but the owner clearly takes good care of his fish. I'll be coming back!

My experience(s) at Pasadena Tropical Fish have been awesome! I make it a point to go their on a weekly bases to look at the variety of fish. Natalie is wonderful, she listens, and she is patient! This is the most well kept fish place I have ever visited.

I have been going To Pasadena Tropical Fish for many years. Even before he was there at that location. He was down the street at least 20 years ago. Steve and his family are very honest, I would recommend anybody to go there. I live in Ontario now my friend who lives in Redlands and my nephew lives in Perris lake. We all go there to by are fish and coral. I would recommend anybody to go great place to buy your stuff has lots of varieties of Fish, coral and Tanks.

Knowingly sold fish with parasitic worms!Steve had a sponge filter and no gravel, which I now know means he was treating the tank. He sold infected fish out of it anyway!Having my 5-year-old son watch his beautiful 6" angelfish die a slow death was really heart-wrenching.DO NOT EVER BUY FROM HERE!

Older looking location, but greats selection of healthy and awesome fish. We always go here over PetSmart or Petco just because we know that the fish will be in good shape. They also have all of the chemicals and supplies necessary to setup a tank!

I've been shopping at PTF for 10+ years, it's definitely my go to tropical fish store in the Pasadena, Glendale, La Canada, La Crescenta areas. PTF stocks all the popular fish you'll find a Petco or PetSmart and they also stock a large variety of fish you won't find at your average tropical fish store. They have a great selection of Saltwater fish, invertebrates and coral with discounts on Sunday. Steve the owner is extremely knowledgeable about all things aquarium related. The only reason for the 4 star review is because the store is a little outdated and I didn't want to mislead anyone with a 5 star review.

Friendly guy staffing the place was happy to help and perfectly willing to let me nerd out about sparkling gouramis for a good minute... I miss fishkeeping :'( Will have to return soon. The more of these kinda sloppy - but - never - dirty independent aquarist shops, the better -- if only for the relationships one can build with the owner and the impact it can have on the hobby ^__^

Great fish store, probably the only independent fish store in pasadena, since angels fish closed, I know the owner, he's very helpful and can give suggestions of what fish to pair, or what you want to do with your fish tank. He has a very good variety of fish, aquatic plants, rocks, etc.. definitely come check his store out

Fish are over priced. All the guppies were basic colors, nothing pretty. Me and fiancé were the only ones in the store and both employees didn't bother greeting or helping us at all.

Very good source for tropicals , tanks and koi pond supplies. Have used them for UV water treatment and pond pumps. Support them if your local.
