Last August, my boyfriend and I adopted Diego, who we call Dio. The adoption process was simple, thorough, and the staff were amazing. Dio was aggressive towards other dogs when we got him, but now he’s a big teddybear at the dog park and we couldn’t be happier. Great place I would recommend to anyone looking to adopt a dog or cat!

The staff here are all kind and knowledgeable, and the volunteers are genuinely caring towards the animals. The foster program is pretty amazing as well. I'm fostering a cat right now that is available for adoption! Look at her!

The staff is super friendly and kind. I think only kind people can work with animals, help them and love them. And it feels like this team is in the right place. Thank you for Jasper, our new furry little family member:)

I volunteered for them. Joseph was a very helpful employee. The girl at the front desk looks at me weird. Like hey I'm a volunteer. I don't even know your name.

Adopted this beautiful senior, Bella, at their Clear the Shelter event. I was so impressed. The facilities were clean and the event was run as smoothly as it could be for what it was. I'm surprised at how much care they give -- they felt she needed a teeth cleaning, so they scheduled and paid for one even though we adopted her before the cleaning. When we dropped her off for the cleaning, we also noted a small skin lesion and they treated that too. You can see the notes they're keeping on the dogs that they're really putting effort in to taking care of and getting to know them. Great place to adopt a dog!

Staff at Pets in need Palo Alto is so unpleasant and almost rude. They are happy to chat among themselves joking and laughing but too busy to even greet you when you drop in. If you make an inquiry about their services, the answers are abrupt and unfriendly. I felt so unwelcome while I was there and decided there are better places to adopt a dog from.

there operational hours are awful, noon to 6p during the week days, back in August 2023, they were open from 8a to 5p daily now they're not, and typically non-responsive to emails, and spay/neuter is waitlisted for minimum of 4 months. Personally I dont have the time to take off from work in the middle of the day to go there. And the web forms cant be altered if they are wrong unless you show up since they dont answer the phone.

This place is amazing and Sandra was fabulous at introducing the new member of our family. We came there with one of our daughter and Sandra introduced us to who would become our new pet. This cute Brioche was the perfect fit: independent, curious, fun and super social, we knew we wanted to be with her all of her life.Sandra was incredible at answering the questions for our daughter around cat needs and development. She then applied these tips and did setup a nice home environment for Brioche in her room.It was during COVID and the place is very well organized and safe. They let us have a room with our new pet for over 30minutes and this felt very homey. We will only go back to pet in need to welcome more pets in our family! Thanks so much

I want to start by saying that places like PIN that help animals in need should not receive anything but 5-star ratings. Now back to my review. I adopted a kitten from here a year ago and was very happy with the whole process. This was during Covid, so we weren't able to meet the kitten but we did get all of our questions answered. The kitten had his initial vaccines done, he was neutered and tested for certain serious diseases. All of this free of charge!I do want to echo what another review here said - the fact that they allow you to meet animals, specifically dogs, only if you have strong interest in adopting is unreasonable. I'm sure they are trying to what's best for the animals. However, this may reduce people's willingness to adopt. Alternatively, it may also lead to suboptimal adoptions where the pet and the adopter aren't the best fit for each other. [FYI] Before I adopted my cat I talked to the foster family but this is a rare opportunity. I don't know if I would have been as keen to adopt my cat, if it wasn't for those conversations.Hopefully things will get back to normal quickly once the pandemic is over and adopters will be able to meet with multiple pets before they make the final decision.

This was a while ago but had to post.Obviously the pets are well taken care of and they are all so cute. BUT most of the staff was rude. Sad to say I am Hispanic and the way they treated me since I got there was terrible. They eyed me down the entire time. And when I needed help to adopt a kitten the main lady in charge there had a terrible attitude with me. At first this girl was going to help me finalize the paperwork but then the white blond lady ripped the papers away from the girl and took over. I don't recommend going there if you are a person of color. Simple.

Love them and all the good they do. A legendary, lovely, super hard working shelter who truly love and care for their little, furry ones. I can't say enough great things about them. Can barely wait until they have their holiday event again!

I called in the donate cat food that was expensive and geriatric cat does not want. The phone convo was welcoming and great. I rushed there excited that this expensive cat food will be put into good use (yes I am unfairly unemployed) only to be a mistaken as delivery driver from an app for human food! Talk about entitlement and exclusivity. They have pit pulls photos as examples up for adoption which is also great and gave me hopes of the integrity of this place. Since I am considering moving out state to hopefully buy my first home some where sane as a single woman I want to get an aggressive breed for protection. Since I grew up around pit pulls and such I know what a commitment they are. I asked if they have options where I can get re adjusted to being confident in owning one full time again. Of course they only offer adoption and foster care (not able to foster care here sadly). I also had the only option of dropping the food in the outside bin (hello! Do these people know animals!?). So it is fair to say I have donated to the raccoons and skunks in our area whom I adore anyways. But still...I don't think this establishment knows what they are doing. Also guess what type of new model vehicle with a certain bumper sticker on from recent month. Only the kind that treat working class that are from here like aliens.

The staff are incredibly friendly and wonderful with the animals. We just adopted our little 12wo puppy from there and we had the absolute best experience! Thank you, in particular, to Morgan for bringing Stone into our family 💖

Unfortunately, this place was a real disappointment. We went to the versary party to see if they had a dog suitable for adoption. Upon asking if we could meet any of the dogs, the staff member blatantly refused unless we were “absolutely committed to adoption within the next 24 hours”. How can we commit if we don’t have any clue of the dog’s character? Of course, they don’t want the dogs to be stressed. But at least the staff could be a little friendly and approachable. We didn’t even get any information on the dogs or the adoption process and overall felt very unwelcome.

Amazing shelter!! I was able to adopt the most beautiful kitten the same day! Super friendly and helpful volunteers and staff. They made the process seamless and were able to recommend the right animal for me. Really beautiful, clean, and spacious facilities.

Terrible experience with some staff; they were rude and discriminatory towards me. Just because I'm a young hispanic adult doesn't mean I can't take care of a cat; when in fact I grew up with cats and dogs living peacefully together. I even tried to explain that to this blond lady several times but was ignored. I was told by two other staff members I could take my dog and kitten to a private room so they could meet; but the blond lady denied me access. Then when I turned in my paper work to a staff member, the blond lady demanded to take over my paper work. She kept questioning my information and judging my experience with pets. She gave me attitude and a very bad vibe; yet with others she was smiling and friendly. She even made me pay extra to license my dog when in fact I already had her licenced as I got her from the same shelter a few years ago. She wasn't going to let me adopt a kitten if I didn't do that and showed proof my dog was vaccinated. My dog was already on their records and up to date but she didn't believe me or the records and made me call my vet to resend all her information. I knew if I spoke up she would harass me and prevent me from adopting a kitten I wanted; so I had to be the better person and take it.Another older lady who took care of the cats was always eyeing me and made me feel uncomfortable. Same thing, she was friendly, talkative, and smiling towards others but with me she was cold or ignored me.The rest of the staff was great. They answered my questions and helped me out. They made me feel welcomed and were really friendly and understanding. Even the animal cop was nice to me and my dog. Out of all people who could actually ticket me, arrest me, or take my dog away if there was any suspicion of me being a bad person; the cop trusted me and was happy I adopted a kitten. Yet the blond lady was rudest and worst employe there.

I was surprised there were so few dogs in this shelter, (currently 3-4), I suppose that must mean they have a lot of foster parents helping to house the other pets or something, right?I was ultimately turned off indefinitely when I asked to pull a dog out to interact with her and I was told, after a long, pregnant pause that they're yard was currently being "worked on".I find it extremely odd that they had no alternative yard available for us to do our meet n greet. The poor dog I wanted to see has been overlooked for over a year and a half, can you imagine?!

I work with a rescue and these folks networked through us to SAVE feral cats! I love them for this, and they deserve all the praise for working with seemingly impossible cats! We found barn homes for them! Thank you Pets in Need Palo Alto!!!

Called in hopes of being able to turn in some stray kittens since it was the only available place. They would take the stray kittens in but because I live in East Palo Alto they will not offer me their services and refer me to Peninsula Humane Society. PHS is about 20 minutes away from where I live which is in EPA.Pets in Need PA is about 5 minutes away from me and because of my location I’m turned away.I’m trying to do the right thing and help poor stray kittens and their mama just to be told my living location isn’t what they desire to help.Wish Pets In Need PA was more accesible. Very disappointed in this.

So I got my kitten from them over a year ago and he was recently diagnosed with a congenital hernia meaning his insides are into his pericardium sac and he was in deed born this way my baby keeps coughing and hacking the only way to see this was an X-ray I’m not sure if they run s rays on all animals but he needs a surgery and the doctor dosnt think it will even work. I gotta put him down. This is the saddest thing I’ve dealt with in my life I wish I could have known before very rare but only if he got a X-ray I would have known. I as in the process of finding out if they run them on kittens for adoption. He has been a lucky cat to survive this long.
