Came in to pick up some wine and groceries. A non-uniformed staff member patrolling the wine section (which already has cameras) only asked me what I needed from the section. It was a poor attempt to prevent any theft and he directed his attention only toward me (despite other people were casually sauntering out with groceries straight from the shelf to the door). So not only did he bias his choice by race he failed to stop what he must have been doing in the first place.The store is hit and miss with their lack of stock in their shelves in terms of groceries, so switching to Lafayette stores will be easy. The only people I would miss are the butcher who is excellent and Michael who is a great cashier, but I cannot tolerate this bias here in Orinda.

I can't believe the cashier named Courtney demanded I should say hi and greet her. I can't hear on my right ear. I usually get excellent service in this Orinda, Safeway. She practically started a fight with me. She's the rudest cashier. She should be reprimanded. Is she fit to work in retail.I had to talk to the assistant manager Mr. Johnson to do something about her attitude. Never going to shop at this Safeway again. I'll make sure my friend and family don't. I had to ask who she was. she didn't have a name take.

very unorganized or maybe lack of management. Waited 30+ minutes to pick up an order that was never even made. I was ignored by an older gentleman when i asked for his help. The only upside is a younger gentleman was very polite and tried his best to help out but unfortunately the order was never packed.

Great friendly staff, clearly popular, but... kind of confusing layout and prices seem higher than other local Safeway stores (staying in Orinda temporarily; used to Oakland & Berkeley stores.)

This place is slow as fudge... Don't use the deli counter unless you really, really like waiting. It appears they have 6+ people working behind there but one MIGHT help you. Just painful.

Nice store. Decent selection for a small Safeway. The produce section is so clean and well-organized. Also, actually honours its late-night hours, unlike most East Bay Safeways. Much love.

They have a 90 min time limit in there parking garage and then its $5 per 30mins after the first hour and a half. I’m sick of human being.

Today, I needed eggs, for a dozen eggs it was $4.99!I also needed milk, it was also $4.99!I also needed mozzarella cheese, it was $6.99Whatever popular item you buy at Safeway seems to be $4.99 or higher!Am I the only person who notices how much Safeway is stealing our money.They don't use it to staff their stores.I would like Safeway to share their Profit and Loss Statement with the public and let us see how much their net profit is. Also, how much they shell out in bonuses, raises and incentive money they give out.Safeway's prices are unbelievable!

Well maintained store, there is lot of parking area, including accessible parking. When I visited fortunately there were no lines at register. Able to quickly pickup few stuff from the store.

My girlfriend had spent a good portion of her day making me a handmaid thank you card. She had put great effort into it.Then she left in the parking lot of this Safeway. She just considered it lost.I called the store, to see if anybody might have found it and turned it in. One of their employees named BRANDON answered the phone, explain the situation and he said he would call me back if you found it.I hung up the phone, really not expecting a call back. I didn't think you would look that hard, and what were the chances of him finding it.I got a call back about 40 minutes later, BRANDON found the card in the middle of the night and saved it for me. I am on my way there to pick it up right now. It is 11:13 PM. If this is a kind of pride this meditation is sure the customer service at this store is top notch.Thank You Brandon

Really dislike Safeway & a 3 is high pts. for them. It's about disappearance of foods you like & products like black-eyed peas in one neighborhood & not another. They went to big-box items in lg. @ 1 pt. Just when u finally find 1 or 2 items u like they pull them. The corporate structure is huge & unforgiving to workers. The amt. of food waste in the deli is incredible. There are a few great people trying to hold this giant corp. mess together. Union lax..The good thing is fresh-cooked bakery products daily & $1 money orders. Has helped greatly during covid, which by the way does not balance out the at least double the cost of toilet paper, more than others, during the beginning of the pandemic.

Store management should consider staffing more cashiers in the evenings. This store consistently has a 5-6 person line at each register, but only 2 or 3 cashiers working. I avoid this store when I can as a result, since I'll save 5-10 minutes if I can stop elsewhere for groceries.Updated to 1 star from 2. 5 PM on a Saturday. 30+ people in line. Two cashiers.

We have tried several Safeway stores within reasonable driving distance and this location has become our "go-to". It is well stocked and organized and counter check out is normally quite fast without long waiting lines. Parking has always been available. Only wish is that it would stay open a little later

I end up stopping at this Safeway 4-5 times a week for the past 9 months or so and have never had issue. Everyone is always friendly, even during lunch rush and are very on top of opening new checkouts when there is a sudden influx of people wanting to check out which I really appreciate since most of us at lunch only have so much time and don't want to spend it in line.

It is the only grocery store in our town, and we have many older people here. It is a very affluent community, in the past I've been puzzled about the lack of higher quality produce and such. They do seem to be making an effort, things are looking better the produce is looking better, and usually the people are nice.

if you need practice waiting in line and or being ignoredby staff,this is the place. count on 1 person checking and 1-2 out of 3 self check outs working,if self check out light starts blinking ,well good luck getting help with that,some of the longer term staff are nice,but i think managment knows we only have 1 grocery in town,so they are ok with C- work ethic and staffing. short staffing surely makes it harder on the staff that does care

This one is one of the biggest grocery store in San Francisco. I love the fact that it's open 24hrs everyday. This is one of the only store in local area that has almost always all the produce all day. Certain pastries run out before 8am. I do hate the fact that there is hardly any employee around to help. Thank goodness for shelf checkout. Certain frozen foods run out sooner than you'd expect and are not in stock in for a day or two. Their hot food bar is mah at best. They've gotten little better with in-store coffee shop. Restrooms are clean considering how many homeless people use them.

Orinda Safeway is my go to spot, but a few things make it 4 and not 5 stars. The bagged mini cucumbers are often not good, it's always like 55° in the store so, no bueno unless it's triple digits and this year there's been an obvious dip in number of lanes open. BUT always a clean store, great hours and always pretty well stocked.

No matter time on day, this store is always one or two lanes short of what's required. Don't even think about it around 5:30 PM....EDIT: so things have improved during/post COVID. With order online and pick up, or the few but present self checkout lanes, this store is much easier to negotiate. Still but the best produce, but it's got the Orinda market cornered.

Very clean. The staff is always very nice. Open 24 hours. Loses one star because it is quite a bit higher in prices than a lot of places I go, and their selection for special diets (IE Gluten or Dairy Free etc.) is very minimal.

Rude checker closed the line on me after acknowledging me as her next customer. Asked that I wait in the aisle due to maintain social distancing which I was happy to do. She closed her register as I walked up and did not offer to take me on another register but instead relieved another checker. As she was waiting to relieve the other checker she proceeded to touch her hair and glasses (while wearing her work PPE gloves) potentially spreading germs to customers’ groceries.

The lines are always way too long during peak hours (after work). I mentioned this twice to the manager on duty and the reply, both times was simply ones of not caring. This Safeway is horribly mismanaged. There are plenty of good grocery stores near me. I will be shopping elsewhere.

It's a Safeway and they seem to have everything you need from frozen foods, a decent meat counter and even Dragonfruit occasionally in the fruit section. Parking isn't bad. Bring your own bags. They always have a good sized backup when I've been there so don't be in a rush. The checkers are friendly but the place is understaffed for people checking out. If you aren't in a rush, no worries.

I love that safeway caries so many great items, but I feel as though I have wasted away my life waiting in their lines with checkers that do not care about the wait times for their customers. They have four express lines and two regular lines open during a busy time. There is no sense of urgency, none.
