Roosevelt Base Camp is so cute! We stayed here for three nights on a road trip down the coast; RBC was the perfect home base to explore from and come back home to each evening. Having a toaster, fridge, coffee maker, and microwave was so nice (we were traveling over a holiday weekend, so not many food options) and we slept so well on the comfy beds. Truly enjoyed our stay here; everything was very clean, comfortable, and homey. The location / proximity to Redwood National Park can't be beat. Carrie (the owner) was very friendly and informative; I can't wait to see the continued renovations on this place. Long live the historic roadside motel!Nearby activities: Redwood National Park

We felt so welcome to this hotel. The owner texted me before we arrived and informed us off all the nearby restaurants and activities. The room was warm and cozy and had many cute unique accents (loved the coffee mugs). They even helped us one morning when we woke up with a flat tire. This hotel was one of five that we stayed in on our trip up the California coast and was definitely our favorite.Rooms: Very cute and cozy.

Great location only a couple minutes drive from the park and trails. Cute and clean lodging with a lot of personality and plenty of amenities. The service is fantastic and very personable, like you are a guest in their home. Small market right across the street for all your basic needs and only about 20 minutes from Trinidad if you need a bigger grocery store or delicious restaurants. Could not think of a better location for a week in the Redwoods

We spontaneously stayed a night at the motel and enjoyed it a lot!Carrie (the host) has created a place where you can feel at home. There is room for exchange at the fire pit and the rooms have a stylish, clean interior with endless hot water. ;)The location provides a short excess to beautiful trails in the red woods and the ocean where we enjoyed a gorgeous sunset. The visitor center is close by as well.We will definitely recommend the motel to our friends and family.

While unable to go further due to a mudslide on the highway, we were stuck driving in the dark. The owner, Carrie, was so accommodating and single-handedly turned a stressful night into a relaxed evening in a beautifully rustic, comfortable, and clean room. We can’t thank her enough or promote what a wonderful space the Roosevelt Base Camp is.

We loved our stay at Roosevelt Base Camp and wish our plans had allowed more time in the area. Roosevelt is central to all things Redwoods! You can tell there is a lot of thought going into redoing this motel. It's adorable, comfortable and clean. The room was exactly what I expected based on the website. We will definitely be staying here again next time we are in the area! Make a run down to Trinidad to Beachcomber for some amazing coffee and food!Rooms: Clean. So adorably redone! Very comfortable beds, bedding and towels! I want the bedding for my bed at home!Nearby activities: Redwood national and State parks

Wonderful stay. Very clean, well-decorated rooms. The floor plans are great to have a bed in a separate room from the kids. The location is great with access to the heart of the parks. Lastly, the fireplace and griddle allowed us to have a perfect evening cooking at the fire. Would highly recommend staying here!!

The outside is not very appealing and could do with a facelift, perhaps some plants. But we were able to park under an overhang just in front of the door, so that if it was raining we did not have to unpack or pack the car in bad weather. The view of the back of the property was a messy back yard area. However, the rooms appear to have been recently renovated and were great. When I asked for bed sheets for the couch/bed, the desk came quickly to furnish them. Linens were quality and the bed was just the right softness for me. The towels were also wonderfully soft. My daughter wanted to stay longer, the room was that comfortable for her. I only wish there had been a few utensils and plates. It had a microwave, toaster and coffee pot, which are all useful but better utilized with a plate and fork or knife. The place is just a mile or so from the entrance to the Redwood State and National Parks and only minutes from the coast as well. We spent much of the day in the parks.Rooms: the rooms appear to have been recently renovated and were great. When I asked for bed sheets for the couch/bed, the desk came quickly to furnish them. My faith is restored in the roadside motel. This place is absolutely charming. Everything is immaculately fresh and clean. A very unassuming exterior leads to a warm interior with all the amenities one would need for a weekend trip. Loved the coffee, tea, popcorn, real cups. Plenty of nice towels and extra hot water in the shower, much appreciated after a chilly and long day of travel. The refinished wood floors and excellent trim details were fun to admire. There was snowfall so the wall heater didn’t keep the place super warm but warm enough and there were plenty of nice blankets to keep cozy all night with. We could here the next door neighbors through the walls as a low murmur but everyone went to bed early and we had no noise issues. This place is a don’t miss and I look forward to staying at this oasis on my travels again. An absolute diamond in the rough and a great launch pad into the redwoods for a morning hike.

Normally, motels have a negative association, but my friends and I (5 of us total) had a lovely stay in a 2-bedroom suite with a sofa bed for 3 nights during our weekend trip to hike in the redwoods. Roosevelt Base Camp is conveniently located right off of the main road and near many great hiking spots. The motel is being renovated little by little, so not all the rooms are ready yet, but the rooms that have been fixed up are super cute and cozy. Our room had a mini fridge, microwave, and coffee pot with an assortment of teas and coffee; there was even a bag of popcorn! The owner is super nice and helpful; there is a fire pit with firewood provided, and she helped us get set up so we could make s'mores on our last night. Two things people should be aware of, though: 1) the wifi isn't great (which is noted on the website) so use this time to disconnect from technology or plan to use your phone data if you need to go online. 2) the curtains are thin and don't really block the light, so bring an eye mask if you have trouble sleeping with light coming in the windowNearby activities: Lots of hikes nearby!Noteworthy details: There's a fire pit with firewood provided for guests to use

Carrie did an AMAZING job in renovating the rooms. It is so welcoming and cozy you want to jump right in (which we did and couldn't take any pictures). Bed and pillows so comfortable I need to get my own. Location was great and near beautiful hikes. We stayed here so long we felt at home. Carrie's hospitality was wonderful and she was so attentive to our needs. We loved our stay and one we'll never forget. We wish Carrie and RBC continued success!

The outside of the hotel is run down. When we got inside it was good, besides it being so unlevel. We slept throughout the night, it was comfy and relaxing. We got up the next morning to the roof leaking, a ton. It had leaked all over the desk. So we texted the front desk lady to let her know. Overall, I think it was a super adorable idea, but it wasn’t well done - and, it was expensive.

Lovely place to stay when you're visiting the Redwoods! This place was once a roadside motel that is being HGTV made over in style. Our room was impeccably clean, beautifully decorated, and stocked with essentials. The host made sure to leave a bin with everything we would need to grill or make s'mores. There were several small personal touches that made us feel like we were staying with friends. Highly recommend as a great place to stay near the Redwoods!

Carrie is a wonderful host. I came here with my family of 4 adults and 4 children ages 1 to 9. We stayed for 3 nights and explored the Redwood National Park in comfort and coziness. It's a beautiful location. The renovation is still in progress, but there are 6 rooms available for rent at this time. I reserved the 2 bedroom suite and it is just enough room for us! Great place to stay.

We stayed here for two nights on a family trip to explore the Redwoods National & State Parks. Orick is the perfect jumping off place to explore the parks, and the Roosevelt Base Camp is a wonderful place to stay. The rooms have been recently renovated and Carrie, the woman in charge, was tremendously helpful. I would highly recommend staying here!

You will definitely have a more personal, high-touch experience here than a faceless Airbnb or sterile hotel. The owner Carrie is so kind and welcoming, and really cares about guest experience. The rooms are well appointed, including toaster and cute vintage style (but modern) fridge and we learned there are more renovations and upgrades underway. Super convenient to the park!

Very comfortable room with tasteful decor and furnishings. The bedding was so comfortable! Cotton is an excellent choice. I appreciate your vision of what RBC can be one day.I only recommend having a complimentary breakfast be provided (especially at that price point, and given the fact there isn’t anywhere to eat). Luckily we had protein bars and bananas leftover from hiking. After being on the road, hiking, etc. the last thing we wanted to do was to get back in the car…. We did walk across the road to the store (a little odd place) for something to grill and had to settle for hotdogs as there wasn’t any fresh meat selection. They did have the basics and some craft beers :). It would also help to have someone on-site to personally talk to or ask questions. We REALLY liked being able to sit outside in the nice outdoor furniture and just chill as we grilled.***You cannot beat the location of RBC, as it’s right on your way to/from Redwoods.Rooms: Beautiful design and tasteful, very quiet, and so very clean.Nearby activities: RedwoodsWalkability: Can walk to store across the road, nothing else around.Food & drinks: Plenty of coffee, teas provided with REAL mugs. No cups or ice machine.

We stayed for one night while checking out redwoods. Lodging is not easy, especially as a larger family. This place was adorable! The room was so comfortable and cozy. The owner sent a text with some great recommendations which was a lovley touch! We used one for dinner and were very impressed!I greatly appreciated the ceramic mugs for coffee, as well as plenty of coffee! There were a lot of little touches that were so great. It is clear that they take so much pride in this property. I LOVE LOVE the fire pit! We really thought about using it ... but honestly, we were all tired and just zoned. I wish we would have taken advantage of it!I have one comment and one "con". The comment is ... the sound insulation between rooms is not great. You can hear your neighbors. HOWEVER, that is the nature of sharing space. The place was very quiet though and it was not much of an issue. The "con" is the location. We went to Trinidad for dinner, which was great ... but a 20 minute drive. Just realize that everything is a bit of a drive.

Location was good, close to all redwood trails. Not much food close by, but there is a market close by for snacks and frozen foods. No AC so the room was warm but the windows do open. No plates or utensils so bring your own if you want them.Nearby activities: All redwood trails are close by to hike for the day or longer if wanted.Food & drinks: Sit down restaurants are all 20 minutes away, which isn’t bad. Towns close by to the north and south.

We stayed here because of its central located to the Redwoods. We got a very sweet welcome text from the owner before we arrived, which included suggestions of good eats in the area. Our rental got a gnarly flat on our way to checking in and we had to detour for a tow/new car (no spare!). Carrie was so sweet and left our room keys accessible and the lights on for us anticipating our late arrival. We would definitely stay here again and again - keep up the great work, the rooms are absolutely beautiful and aesthetic, and so very clean.

Roosevelt Base Camp is the perfect accommodation for your visit to Redwood National and State Parks. Located just five minutes away from the primary visitor center, you truly cannot ask for a better location if you're here to explore the great outdoors. The retro and rustic roadside motel is an ideal spot to come back to after a long day of exploring, where you'll be able to cozy up to an outside communal fire, enjoy a cup of coffee or tea provided in your room, or simply relax in a comfy bed. Not to mention this property is dog-friendly, so bring the whole family! I'd highly recommend staying here if you're visiting the Lost Coast and be sure to say hello to Carrie (the owner) who is incredibly kind!

If l had the ability to give this place more stars , l would. We were caught in a scary snow storm and l was desperate for a place at this point , and we stumbled upon this place and WOW what a blessing. The place is beautifully styled and so comfortable with the different rooms in the space, because my husband stays up later watching t.v and l had a separate room to sleep in and then the BEDS, so absolutely comfortable , the place shows that there was a lot of thought put into the guests comfort. The owner Carrie was so sweet and accommodating. Thanks again Carrie!

What a hidden gem in the heart of Northern California! Our stay was only for a night but if was extremely comfortable and fun. The owner was very helpful and so nice. Would recommend for anyone looking for a quaint little place to stay where someone is putting effort into restoring a piece of history.Noteworthy details: The beds and bedding are very nice and comfortable.

My wife took me on a trip up the California coast. We stayed in a lot of cool hotels, however Roosevelt Base Camp was our favorite. A lot of love was put into this place and it shows. The beds were by far the most comfortable we had on our trip, The location was beautiful (we saw elk!), and the customer service was incredible. We highly recommend this place if you’re in the area and need a warm bed. Oh yeah and the place is very dog friendly.

Absolutely loved this motel. The owner is incredibly friendly and the room was so cozy and comfy. The room had a very "photogenic" aesthetic and was styled so beautifully. It had all the basics including a minifridge, microwave, and coffee machine. Both my husband and I are picky about beds, pillows, and towels, but we were impressed by those in the room.I had some concerns about the lack of restaurants nearby, but Klamath and Trinidad honestly didn't feel far and their food offerings were good. I'll definitely return to this motel the next time I visit the area!
