I'm new to the area and needed a reasonably priced groomer (bath + haircut + nails), because I have two dogs. I looked around online and found a lot of uber fancy places, plus less fancy ones that wouldn't even accept new clients, didn't answer their phones, or wanted me to book an appointment really far in advance. I also found Pet Choice, and when I called them they were able to get me in pretty quickly. They were also honest about pricing and really friendly, so I decided to give them a shot. They did a great job!! And their prices are very fair. My guys came out looking fresh and soft and smelling delicious. The groomer was gentle and attentive to detail and did exactly what I asked in addition to making some helpful suggestions. I was especially happy because one of my dogs has a thick undercoat and overheats easily, making him lethargic and grumpy. Some groomers hesitate to cut his hair very short (I guess they think it looks unnatural or don't really believe I mean short short??? not sure), but this groomer understood what I meant and gave him the cut I was looking for on the first try. The dogs also seemed comfortable in her care, which is always a good sign. I will definitely come back!!

I used to get my chihuahuas nails cut here before covid, and I recently found out that he only has a groomer a few days a week. I was able to arrange an appointment and he saw me same day. Very friendly guy in the front and was very helpful. They treat my pup well, and that's the best thing I could ever ask for!

I took my husky foster to this shop to get groomed and to buy some supplies and food. The owner is so nice and full of information. The price is reasonable and fair, and they did a great job. The groomer is awesome! I’ll be back to purchase items for my cats in the future.Edit: I’ve been bringing my dog there to get bathed and they do a wonderful job! I love all the groomers there. My dog is always happy when she’s done with her bath :)

Today I took my fur baby (Prince) to Pet Choice in Oakland. The service was wonderful and the two employees I spoke to showed interest in how I wanted him groomed and was very courteous and friendly. I rate Pet Choice with 10/A+

Pet Choice on MacArthur is my go to shop for all my kitty needs. The owner is incredibly nice, so nice that I always leave the store in a better mood than when I entered. He has random give-always (of good stuff!) and is an excellent source of advice and referrals.One of my cats has special dietary needs, the brand of cat food isn’t commonly found at smaller pet stores. I heard through a neighborhood group that the owner will special order pet supplies if requested and that he matches or beats most big-box prices. Turns out, they were right! If I call in my order by mid-day Wednesday I can usually pick up Thursday afternoon.Prices are as good, if not better, than the big retail chains. I have not used grooming services but have been on site and seen the handling and treatment of animals and feel good fully endorsing this store and it’s owner. The decor is a little funky but the service is first class. :)

Reviews like this can be a mixed bag but our dog Chiba got groomed here and had a good experience. I think if you make your intentions clear and ask questions first you will be setup with the right expectations and enjoy this local gem of a service.Freddie is very friendly and always willing to listen and help. Our groomer seemed nice and noticed the hives on our newly adopted dog right away so that was a good sign. Thanks so much for the help!

Took my puppy to get a bath/groom and nail trim here and she came out looking beautiful! The staff is friendly, the price is fair and owner is so nice. This is definitely going to be my new place to take Lilo to get groomed. Lil even looks to be smiling after her groom in the pictures!

I walked in minutes before close and the gentleman was starting to lock up. When he saw me heading toward the store, he opened the gates and welcomed me in and told me to take my time. He was able to get me the flea medicine I needed and he even sold it in individuals which was nice. He took the time to explain to me how to use the product, down to even when and when not to wash my dog in order to not waste the treatment. I love that even after being closed, the owner took time to not only get me my product, but teach me how to properly use it and not waste my money. Wonderful shop, good selection, will most certainly be back!!

After a few poor customer experiences at a groomer near Fruitvale and MacArthur we thought we'd try Pet Choice. Best decision.We are very happy with the skill of the groomers and the fact they are able to get our very difficult dog groomed. He hates having his nails cut but they are successful every time! The person at the front desk, Freddy, treats everyone like family.Cannot recommend this place enough.

A neighborhood gem. great and affordable grooming services and they carry the grain-free brand of food our dogs enjoy at a competitive price and right in the laurel!The owner is very friendly and knowledgeable.I hope that with time the store itself will make some physician improvements since the building it quite old but otherwise, we love pet choice.

Pet Choice is my go-to for supplies for my cats. Definitely a hidden gem. The owner, Freddy, is the nicest person! He remembers the things I tell him about my cats, asks how school is going, and always offers to help carry things to the car. He occasionally gives me free toys or treats for the cats, which they certainly appreciate.

The owner is Great!, I needed my two dogs to look there best because they got to be on TV 20 and it was a short notice and I needed them to look there best! The groomer Vanessa is Amazing!!! I was so proud of them when they went on camera..and my dogs love her too!!!

I decided to try this little shop out instead of the usual commercial chain I take my dog to to get groomed and I'm glad I did! The owners of the store are there every day, and are very knowledgeable and helpful. They had my shihtzu bathed, trimmed, and groomed exactly how I wanted in a couple short hours. Great place!

The owner, Freddy, is very nice and helpful. But the Caucasian lady with the dreadlocks who cuts the dog's hair is very unsanitary. My dog broke out in a rash because of her failure to properly sanitize the equipment. Not good

Called to make an appointment. Person on the phone was rude. I asked for a price for what I needed...Person on the phone, told me the price then preceded to demand angrily... if I did not agree to the price then he would not book me because he is a logical person...huh?? um mkay?? His tone on the verge of scolding for no apparent reason. Prior to that he would not work with me for scheduling a date...he wanted to schedule a time and date that worked best for him. Would not recommend to any of my friends for lack of customer service. First impressions count Pet Choice.

This is the best pet store around. Also a dog grooming service. The owner Freddie is awesome. If you claim to suppport local business and have a pet this is the best option. The owner Freddie has lived in the Laurel district over 20 years. Most importantly these days is the prices. They Can't Be Beat!!CHEAPER than Amazon. CHEAPER than PET FOOD EXPRESS and PETCO. Often people go out of they're way for convince and don't even price check or just order off amazon cause "its easier" this place always has some quick parking unlike the rest of MacArthur blvd. I fear that without the local communities support this wonderful local long standing business could go under so to big name stores and people just assuming his little shop will be more expensive. My 50lb bag of taste of the wild is 3.20 cheaper than on Amazon, I used to buy at pet food express before I found Freddie. I was paying 3 dollars and change more. Same with tread and dog grooming accessories. Seems small to us the consumer where we buy dog/cat food etc. but that support is huge to a local bussines owner.
