Very bad attitude of the cashier Elizabeth. Very rude and frustrated lady. I'm new dasher and I was little confused about the payment. Instead of telling me she was just yelling and telling me to learn my job first. Doesn't have courtesy to talk and treat the customers with respect. She is not fit to be at the customer service job. Very disappointed with such a bad behavior!! Very unprofessional.Provide that psycho lady some training. I saw lot of negative comments about her but I'm surprised why is she even working there after all those reviews. Hopefully next time when I go there she doesn't exist.

Overall the store is there to provide shoppers with their everyday needs, my concern is with the deli section mostly with the sandwich area. I have been getting my sandwiches from here for a while and let's say out of the 20 or so times I visited only once I had a great experience. Please can we get someone more trained behind the counter to make sandwiches. From my multiple issues, here is one that kinda seemed strange, I had asked for more lettuce on my sandwich and the employee said "we are only allowed to put one leaf of lettuce any more would be extra charge" I pointed out that the menu display says meat, cheese, bacon and avocado are extra charges and not the veggies, that didn't not register with the employee so I just took my sandwich and left. I let is go until this morning waking up still thinking about it, clearly I wasn't over the ordeal.

Safeways are generally clean, well organized easy to get into and have most of what you want. This particular store also has a friendly casually conversational staff that is not always resident to other stores and makes checkout better. And nice during the holidays. There's also self checkout to expedite. Fresh bakery, donuts, produce a decent wine selection, snacks, deli and it is in a mall area that has some nice restaurants. They're also some gift ideas inside the store and around the mall. Overall I consider this one of the better Safeways in the area.

March 10, 2024I recently had the displeasure of experiencing the unprofessionalism at Safeway, thanks to one of their cashier, Elizabeth. While waiting for her to scan my items, she was too busy engaging in personal conversations with her coworker, completely disregarding my presence.To make matters worse, she uttered an inappropriate comment about smoking, demonstrating a complete lack of regard for professionalism or customer service etiquette. Her attitude throughout the entire transaction was appalling, showing no respect or consideration for me as a customer.At the end of the transaction, there was not even a basic courtesy of a thank you or acknowledgment. She simply handed me the receipt and looked away, further emphasizing her blatant disregard for customer satisfaction.Overall, my experience with this particular cashier (Elizabeth) was utterly disappointing, and it's clear that Safeway needs to invest more in training their staff on proper customer service etiquette and professionalism.

I’ve gone to this Safeway my whole life living in Newark. I’ve never dealt with horrible customer service experience until today. The cashier Elizabeth truly needs to be more respectful of her customers. She didn’t even greet any customer that was in line. I was trying to use two coupons & she had no intention of trying to help me so she needed to call her boss Bryan. Bryan, I thank you for your patience & wonderful customer service. Elizabeth ended it all with saying to Bryan, “& that’s why you’re the boss & I’m not”.. That’s absolutely right. You can’t be the boos with that bad attitude.

The gal working late had seen me running full sprint in an attempt to make it here from afar and at exactly midnight (yes, I felt bad and assured her I understood that I did not make it in time..).. Still she found it in her heart - at midnight after what’s presumably a long and exhausting shift, to let me quickly grab my one little super glue.. (which obviously couldn’t wait until morning.. 🤔🤷🏼♂️).It’s acts like this which are beyond the call of duty and are inspiring random acts of kindness that give me hope in humanity, even during the harder times.Thanks Ms. Ger[…couldn’t make out your whole name!]Keep inspiring :-)

NO STARS! Visited the bakery days before xmas to simply buy a co worker a cupcake. Paid for it at the bakery with a checker named Anu. I gave her the only money I had a 100 dollar bill for a 4 dollar transaction. She folded my change with receipt and handed it back. It was 5am and I was in a hurry so I just put it in my purse. When I unfolded the change at work, she shorted me 40 dollars! I couldn't believe that she would do that, on top of it on the receipt she put I gave her 20 dollars. It's Xmas time, and she really stole from me I was livid!I spoke to a manager immediately, who claimed he was going to do his part to investigate. I still have yet to hear back. My fault for not counting my change when she handed it to me.RECOMMENDATION.........COUNT YOUR CHANGE BEFORE WALKING AWAY AT THIS STORE!!!!!!!! THIEVES ARE EVERYWHERE!!!!!

Just entering The phone number on the Safeway app will not work in getting discounts. They have introduced the QR code under the wallet option of Safeway smartphone app. Scanning the QR code will provide the appropriate discounts.

Weird behaviour by the staff when I asked for things locked behind the glass door as if I was going to steal it. Didn't even let me go to the self-checkout and made me stand in a line. Can someone look at this or is this the normal behaviour at this store?

This is a pretty nice Safeway. Selection is good, including (important to me) dairy free yogurts, ice creams and cheese products. Staff was pleasant. Parking was easy. Good place to go for grabbing a few groceries in the evening.Update: They've started closing the entrance by Starbucks at 7pm. If you're going in at night, be sure to park closer to the main entrance.

TAKE PICS OF THE PRICES and make sure you get your $5 gift card or free item! I have had a wrong price scan every time I have come here.Stopped coming here a month ago for that reason but my bf wanted the real Pepsi, which is not available at the store I usually go to. When the acting manager, Ed (turns out he was NOT a manager at all but was posing as one, which was confirmed by the GM when she called me back after calling the number about price discrepencies), went to help me, he was very condescending; I had to ask him 3 times to stop doing so. He did not believe the pictures I took, was trying to look through the paper to find the price of the exact item I took a pic of with matching UPC, and then he DID NOT HONOR THE DISCOUNT POLICY (see attached pics 1 and 2).Ed claimed that the $5 gift card "only counts if the transaction is complete". It says that nowhere on the sign, and the policy is actually a CA state consumer law that I am aware of from previous retail experience in this very state. Confirmed he was wrong by calling the number on the sign about the policy; he knew the policy but just did not want to honor it for me. Also refused to give me his name when I asked for it, and did not ring up all items in the basket so he accused me of stealing when I put all of the groceries, including the items he neglected to ring up, in the bag. Not my fault he did not want to scroll through the screen to make sure all items were on there and correct, despite asking him to do so.Sure this store does not really care about losing a customer but thought I would make others aware that WHEN the wrong price scans, the policy does NOT wait until after the transaction is complete to get the free item or gift card (depending on price).UPDATE: After the GM, Crystal (sp?), called me back at 6:45am the next day, in response to her DM passing my info after the price discrepency customer service call center confirmed that Ed was wrong, she left a $10 giftcard at the counter. I will be passing it on to my boyfriend instead as I have no desire to deal with anymore of this particular store. It was appreciated receiving a call that clarified that Ed was NOT a manager AND that when I asked to speak to one, as I was baffled by his actions, he said that he was the only manager there and I could speak to someone lower than him. She was not happy to hear of him claiming she was not there when she actually was. The GM said, on her own accord, that she will be sure to train the employees on the price discrepency policy as it is CA state law (has been for decades). Hope it works out for the sake of customers possibly dealing with a power-trippin' imposter manager at this Safeway!

Wanted to buy a new york steak and none precut. I was told i’d have to wait 10 min because guy was cutting something and wanted to finish before cleaning the machine. A bunch of amateurs. Lucky supermarkets always have precut new york steaks. Avoid safeway in Newark. I don’t want to shop where they don’t care about making a sale.

I don't stop here too often but it's good enough overall that if I'm in the area I will stop in here for some quick grocery shopping. It's clean and reasonably safe and well-stocked, etc. If you're particularly familiar with the Safeway brand there's probably no reason why you wouldn't consider going here.

Poor Customer service this visit. 😟This Safeway was not busy today👍👍.The store did not have any 🛒 shopping carts available, and no cart person rounding them up.We had to 🕵️stalk down a customer loading up their car to get a 🛒 shopping cart.The store was well stocked👍👍.When checking out, we met the cashier Elizabeth who was 😡not happy to be working today.Cashier Elizabeth had no common courtesies, like saying 🚫👋hello or 🚫🙏thank you for shopping at Safeway.During our transaction, cashier Elizabeth 😡 scolded me for having two loose 🎟️🎟️coupons.Cashier Elizabeth wouldn't even help with 🛍️ bagging, and there were no baggers to be found.Poor Customer service this visit. 😟

This review is for Elizabeth cashier today on lane 7 (express) half white hair (Appearing to be in her mid 60s working under the supervision of Josh). My mother, daughter 18 y/o and myself were in line to get a birthday card, e-drinks and a bottle of Grey Goose. I was astonished this specific cashier was giving every single customer in line, a harsh very hostile attitude, scolding customers for going over the limit, eye rolling, that we were fearing to get scolded ourselves when we got too the front to greet her. We guessed right… I can’t even explain the public humiliation she exposed us too holding up the line arguing with us stating that she couldn’t sell my mother the bottle because I didn’t have my ID & pointing at me. She advised she had to verify the whole group was of age (When I was not even the one purchasing in the first place) Do us all a favor Elizabeth don’t work in customer service to bully people if it’s racism your problem don’t work in Newark- It may truly be time to retire. Josh, I’m sorry to report we had a minor with us 18 and she wasn’t carded at all (Double standard much?) Please Safeway do better & hire better. This was my mothers 2nd bad experience with this specific cashier this is unacceptable behavior anywhere. Citizens of Newark Avoid her and go to Lucky’s or Sprouts. :)

Something happened to this Safeway about a couple of years ago. Maybe it is the management. I used to be a regular for more than a decade. But now I try to avoid it whenever possible. I shop mainly for seafood and meat. The two phrases I hear these days when I go there to buy items on sale are: "sorry sir we are out you can try maybe tomorrow" and "we are still cutting the meat. Can you wait for like um 30 minutes". This rarely happens when I go to the Safeway on Mowry. I love Safeways but this one is below average. I also go often to the Luckys in Charter Square on Fremont Blvd. The butcher there is really good. Items on sale are always available whenever I go there. That is an above average Luckys.UPDATE 9/22I went there today to buy some lamb chops and shrimp and expecting to be disappointed. I was so surprised to see that the store was well stocked. This was a marked difference from my experience during the last several months. It brought back memories about how this store used to be years ago. I also saw employees checking to see if everything is in stock. I felt they were making a sincere effort to correct things. I have updated my rating.

If u want bad customer service and a bad cake then order from here. First off pick up was so confusing and the lady was rude. Then they forgot to add the Happy Birthday and when they did it was all squished together and hard to read. I just wanted to get a nice cake for a birthday but they really killed my vie.

Safeway is almost always very busy. Most of the time it's a good experience. The lines are sometimes long, but they move pretty quickly. I have noticed that not all Safeways have the same items, especially specialty items.

The Safeway is hard go to supermarket for family groceries. Clean store pretty well stocked and friendly staff. Parking can be a little difficult between the hours of 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. during the week. Very good shopping experience!

Terrible experience again at this Safeway. I have spoken to management several times about the lack of shopping carts, but I always hear the same answer that the homeless steal them. I ask each time why not get a locking wheel system like the other retailers and I have heard from one that they don't work and from another manager that the property owner won't allow that system. I now go to this Safeway once every two weeks and buy only a package of sandwich rolls. I won't shop in a store that makes life so hard.I will continue to shop at Smart and Final in Union City who have the wheel locking carts and I know that they work as I have had the wheel lock up because the cashier forgot to scan the shopping cart.I am glad I don't own stock in Safeway if all of their stores are like the Newark Jarvis location. I think that this location is setting itself up to go out of business.UPDATE: Safeway responded to this original post and asked me to use the chat line. I used the chat and asked for the Store Manager to call me and waited a week and no call happened. Last week I reached back out asking for the district manager to call me and I never heard from him/her.Tonight I reached out to chat asking for the Vice President of Customer Care name and email address and all the chat person wanted to do was to ping the store manager and the district manager. This company obviously does not want to listen to customers.Safeway is in business to maximize profits and since the customers of this store can only purchase what they can carry in a hand held basket the store is not maximizing profits.If someone from Safeway reads this and reaches out via this forum, please send me the name of someone on the executive team. I am not going to drop this until I have a talk with a high ranking individual. I might have to reach out to the board of directors. Please keep in mind that I am not an ordinary person that will stop reaching out if I continue to not get responses.Bob

Had a frustrating experience. Went in with my husband to pick up some groceries for camping. We were told that Safeway has a policy to card everyone in a group when buying alcohol. He had his ID, but mine is expired, but very clearly me. And we are both well over 30. When the manager was brought in, she laughably told us to be PRACTICAL! There would be no legal problem to allow my husband to pay, yet they insisted on enforcing this "Safeway policy" that is clearly flawed, or at least not equitably applied - do they deny parents purchasing booze if their children are present?? They continued to defend this policy to us and everyone in line behind us who (gratefully) were sympathetic to our situation.

For the third time in two weeks I’ve gone to shop at this store - this time for a fruit salad for Easter plus - and there were no shopping carts to be found. The other two times I was buying a few items and could carry items in a hand basket. Do you know how heavy three melons are to carry not to mention the other items? Another woman asked about carts and the Safeway employee just shrugged. You lost out on a $72 purchase and Luckys gained. What’s up with the carts?

I like the store and prefer it over others close by. HOWEVER, one of the representative named "ELIZABETH" is rude and uncouth. It was not my one experience. She has been at the self checkout counters and some days on the regular checkout counters. She gets frustrated too quickly with her customers and gives faces & looks. This has happened multiple times with just one person and hence I realized it is not just one off.
