My husband & I stopped by here for lunch... after reading the reviews, we thought we'd give it a chance and so happy we did!! My husband ordered a double cheeseburger and I ordered the calamari sandwich with a cup of clam chowder and it was soooo GOOD!! My soup had big chunks of clam, steamy hot and very tasty. My sandwich was perfectly topped with pickles, onions, tomatos and a yummy sauce... the calamari steak was cooked just right. His cheeseburger was good and also cooked perfectly. We were both in foody heaven... mmmmm. Portions are pretty big and it's very affordable! There was no wait and we recieved our order in about 10-15 minutes. The lady who took our order was very friendly & nice. We sat outside at the picnic tables in the back and enjoyed the beautiful view of the water, wild flowers, birds & surrounding area. This is now a new favorite for us and anytime we are in the area we plan to come again. What a gem! Truly was a great lunch/dining experience!

Ordered a half albacore tuna sandwich. Unfortunately, the worst tuna sandwich I've ever had in my life. Basically I tasted the condiments and not the tuna at all. I took three bites and couldn't eat the rest. Canned Chicken of the Sea tuna was gourmet compared to this. I was shocked. I was taken aback because I love their snapper and calamari sandwiches! Never would have thought the quality would have been like this for the albacore tuna.

I had the chicken sandwich on sourdough and a cup of clam chowder. My husband had the calamari sandwich with garlic crinkle cut fries. Great spot for lunch!

Big fan of Phil's Snack Shack (or typically I just call it "Little Phil's"). Best prices and good food from a local lunch favorite. However since the fish market moved the Castroville some of the Snack Recipes have been switched up. I'm definitely a regular and always order the egg salad, and lately it's gone from a really good classic/simple egg salad to having a lot of extra stuff in it (red onions, celery, carrots, pieces of lettuce ??? etc...). I love veggies, but not in my egg salad. I don't order the works specifically for this. If the price of eggs is an issue I'll say something maybe a little controversial but I would rather pay an extra dollar for the old egg salad recipe they were using a 1.5 years ago than pay the same price for the current. I will openly admit this is a very "I'm a regular blah blah blah" kind of thing to ask, but could be we get the old egg salad recipe back on the menu <3?

Loved my experience here yesterday. The location is great and the building is cute. We got a ton of yummy food for a great price. The customer service was fantastic, too. If you want to avoid the crowds & time constraints of all the big restaurants around, this is what you're looking for!

DELI MEATS and Salads, beer to go!!!!!!!Half a pound of hard salami a half a pound of wonderful cheddar cheese2 pints of homemadePotato Salad, a pint of homemade albacore tuna salad, a pint of homemade New England Clam Chowdah, 3 bagels, a medium size bag of chips two beers two yogurt drinks, napkin spoons forks.Thank you Chris!! I did not know that Phil's Snack Shack is under New Management that is rockin'!!!!Now, I have to eat!!(previous post from January 1st 2020)I love Cheeseburgers for breakfast.Works.'Nuff said. Well done (actually, medium-rare) maestro!!! Perfect, after Holiday, after anything, meal. Price is right. I am outside, in the garden area, how civilized!! Like Gingham Gardens in Los Angeles! First breakfast at Phil’s Snack Shack and it was one of the best! Had an order of three giant delicious pancakes and the Breakfast Meal. It was a generous portion of eggs, bacon, grilled hash brown patty and a huge grilled English muffin. They were the best scrambled eggs I’ve ever had! Staff is friendly and efficient. I’ve had their deli sandwiches which are excellent as well but this was my first time with breakfast items. Everything on the menu is cheap by today’s standards. I can’t wait to come back and try the clam chowder! I highly recommend eating here when you are in the area

We went to the Snack shack for lunch. Staff is friendly and welcoming. You can eat indoors or outside. Their selection of boutique potato chips is expansive for a small shop. Their clam chowder is delicious with only a modicum of potatoes. Clams, clams, clams! We had the calamari sandwich with the works. The portions were so large that we had dinner covered. There was no line like at Phil's Restaurant!

Good snapper sandwich. My friend tried the tuna melt, but she wasn't all that impressed. I tasted her clam chowder. It was very good. I liked the quiet backyard where we could eat. Nice scenery. Service was excellent. I will definitely return and try their calamari sandwich.

I am so very disappointed. After waiting months and driving 60 miles to get my favorite clam chowder at Phil's Shack, it was terrible! Someone changed the recipe. I've been going to Moss Landing for 20yrs because they had the best chowder but this saw watery, no bell peppers and fake butter to try to fix it. I KNOW what it has been consistently every time I go and this is not it. I hope Phil at the new Castroville site reads this and holds them accountable.

We love to go to Phil's for their epic calamari sandwiches! To die for! Great place for we regulars, great place to rest and lunch if you're out traveling California, especially in the summer heat. Sun and shade outside, clean tables, nice breeze. Marsh views, lots of cranes, egrets, hawks, sometimes you can spot a sea otter resting in the near by Marina area. Don't miss it!

The building is small, but the burritos are HUGE! About as big around as my arm and about a foot long. We split half of a breakfast burrito and saved the other half for lunch. A real bargain and delicious. You won’t go away hungry!

My husband and 3 other friens had breakfast at Phil's Snack Shack. The menu allows for many choises, and everyone enjoyed their meal. The day was beautiful so we ate outside in the back. All was very nice.

Very friendly staff, food is always fresh and cooked to perfection. I always get a breakfast burrito, chili dog or burger and have never had a complaint about them. Also turkey sandwiches are amazing the bread is always fresh and fluffy. You can eat inside or out back and enjoy the fresh ocean breeze.

Unassuming but great place to eat! Great breakfast and the prices can’t be beat! We went three out of four mornings for breakfast while staying down the road at the Captain’s Inn. Can’t say enough good things about Phil’s food and prices!

WARNING! Skip the Snack Shack and Go straight to Phil's Fish Market. Unless you have 2 hours to kill.**Management- Please reconsider your staffing needs here.I'm a 15+ year loyal customer of the original Phil's Fish Market. This experience frankly seems like it is under different management, or clearly not a business priority.Poor customer service from cashier, slooooow wait time. We were advised it would be a 30 min wait. Actual wait time= 85 minutes.Menu is limited as expected- sandwiches, 3 fried fish sandwich options, breakfast burritos, and soups (no bread bowl). No fries or a la cart fried items. It's a miss not to have chowder in a bread bowl imo.After waiting 35 min, the cashier advised that that my order was coming up soon. Great! I stepped aside to wait near the pickup area, and she added "Not soon enough for you that you need to be standing here".The comment was rude- and wouldn't have bothered me normally but all of these issues were mounting along with hangry-ness.Tick tock tick tock...... Another half hour of my life passed until my order number was called. Yay! Finally- I approached the counter with my ticket- and the staff was disorganized and confused. They asked me what my name was? and couldn't find my ticket even though they had called for me. It was painfully watching all 3 of the confused employees assembling my simple order (1 soup, toast, and 2 sandwiches that had NO modifications).On top of it- I didn't get an apology for the wait time.By now, my family members were hangry and retreated to the car, wanting to leave ASAP. Even though we were super hungry, the food was fine but the experience killed the vibe.I will be forever a fan of Phil's Fish Market, but I will never return here again.

Great local spot with good decently priced food. I haver had everything on the menu and it is great. There is a super friendly cat that sometimes comes around when you eat outside. One of the many reasons we keep coming back. Best thing to try is the snapper sandwich. It is a must!

Wow, excellent sandwiches -calamari, on sourdough, and a shrimp salad, on whole wheat, for my husband with friendly service and the choice to sit in a sunny grassy yard or covered porch. Prices are good. Place is clean. AND the lemon bars are truly delicious. Excellent for a quick bite or take longer.
