The driveway is very hard to see - we passed it by twice! Once in the parking area, all was well. It's a very small property, I believe only 10 guest rooms, and three stories tall with no elevator. Our host accommodated us with a first floor unit. We were right on the river and could walk down to the water's edge. Some people went out in canoes to paddle around.The unit itself had a fair amount of deferred maintenance. But the bed was comfortable and the area was very quiet.

We loved the gorgeous garden with private beach on the beautiful Russian River. There were many seating areas so you can have privacy even with other guests around. The rustic cottage was comfortable and clean with a presto log for the fireplace and a full bathroom. We forgot our water bottle and the innkeeper promptly called us about it. We hope to come back! I upgraded my rating to 5 stars for our stay 4 years ago since I've been too tough in my ratings.

First, I want to address the guy that said he wasn't allowed to flush TP down the toilet. That's not what the sign says. Whether you're at this hotel, any hotel or at your home, don't flush diapers, feminine products and paper towel in the toilet. That's what the sign says. He also complains about spiders. The hotel is on the river and surrounded by trees. You're going to find spiders. Although dated, the hotel was comfortable, the manager friendly and helpful, and it's the perfect location if you're looking for someplace quiet and pet friendly. We chose not to access the river behind the hotel because of the plants growing along the river and it was a bit muddy. Not a big deal since the beach is less than half a mile away. Over Memorial Day weekend the weather was perfect, and in the late afternoon and evening we sat on the deck and watched people swimming or kayaking on the water. We used the grill to prepare dinners that we eat on the deck. Bottom line don't expect luxury hotel accommodations, but you'll be pleased with the location and comfort provided by this quaint hotel.

We booked two nights and opted leave after the first. It was dirty and run down, with a moldy coffee filter left in the machine, ripped and hard sheet sets, a broken pull out futon. The property itself was not well maintained either, it was muddy and would have been an absolute mess to attempt to use the kayaks. This place needs some serious work and updating, would not recommend until they invest in some essential updates and a more effective cleaning service.

Just posted a review and read a couple of them that were not so nice. All I have to say is, you definitely can’t please everyone. However, I can’t imagine staying anywhere else. Jay goes above and beyond to accommodate you and your fur babies. I would highly recommend this place above any other. Jay makes you feel like you are the most important guest on property. Being in the hotel industry in Tahoe, I know what to look for, and jay delivers. Yes the bathroom was small and the shower tight, but if that is my only complaint, it must be pretty dam good place. Especially if I would not stay anywhere else.

Such a nice, relaxing place to stay! Right on the Russian River and such a cute little place! Jay, the host, is the nicest guy!! He was so kind and loved my puppy, he was so excited to see her everyday! There are kayaks to use, chairs and a hammock to relax in, so quiet and calm. We had a lovely getaway! I have no doubt that Jay would be more than happy to help you with anything you need! Its in a great location, 15 minutes from the coast and so close to vineyards and wine country! It was exactly what we were looking for, we'll definitely return in the future! Thanks Jay, Ripley can't wait to see you again, but she will be so much bigger next time!!

the property is on the river and there are amenities-kayaks, chairs at the river, etc. YET… the room with a tiny kitchen is old and truly dirty. The very old, stretched, and bumpy carpet had just been shampooed and remained wet throughout our stay. Therefore, the place smelled moldy and musty for three days :( We had to leave the door open throughout our stay to mitigate the odor. Many noted Jay was a wonderful host - and, he is. Although he also is carrying the weight of an old run down property and is a one man show! This place is a fixer-upper’s dream.

One of the worst experiences ever. Reserved a room for a local wedding. Went to check in after the weeding around 5 pm. The attendant refused my room because I didn't call ahead.... who does that when you reserved the room previously? After that he said no dogs, even though the place is dog friendly and I paid extra for it. After refusing the stay and threatening to call the cops I decided to leave. Honestly horrific experience. I would not recommend this place unfortunately.

Loved the aRiver View Garden Resort. We took Room #17 with a view of the river and the room had its own private deck. Great access to the Russian River. The Resort has kayaks. Off street (private) parking. Jay was a very attentive host. All good here!

Jay was a great host. Very friendly and let us use the kayaks for free. The view was beautiful. The rooms were big, with a full kitchen, but a small bathrooms. We had private deck that looks over the river.

Gorgeous backyard, quiet place right by the river where you can easily cast off or dock with a kayak or a paddle board. Nicest staff ever, very enjoyable breakfast. Jay the host makes you feel home there :-) will definitely return. Only giving a 4 because dwelling is not in good condition.

This place is a little paradise. The owner is so kind and welcoming. He even gave my son an ice cream which obviously makes any 6 year old’s day! We used the on-site kayaks, hung out in the beautiful garden and had a nice dinner close by. The wifi works great! We had our own little private patio deck to enjoy sunset and coffee. We will definitely be back!

This place was such a huge disappointment. The rooms were outdated, dirty and smelly. I was afraid to even cook or eat a meal in this room. The bathrooms were super tiny and you could NOT flush toilet paper!!! Inadequate cooking utensils and no glasses. The garbage cans were right next to the table (outside) serving coffee (no decaf) yuk. The grounds were untidy. The only thing good about this place was the coffee. Oh, they had great wooden hangers. Nice manager, but the place was a DUMP.

First time in Monte Rio. The River View Garden Resort was very nice. Rooms are dated but comfortable and clean. Beautiful view of the Russian River and just 10 miles from all the beaches. Great time. Thank you Jay for you hospitality. Will book again next year.

Overall I recommend this place and would come here again.Pros:Great location right on the water. Cute, welcoming B&B with views of the river from your private deck and a nice big shared lawn area to hang out. Friendly staff. Has most of the amenities you'll need, including a kitchen (if you get a room with one), a kayak and breakfast included. Room and bed were comfortable.Cons:There's only 1 kayak that's shared with all the hotel guests, so no guarantee it'll be available when you want to use it. Some of the info on the website is wrong, like check out times. It helps if you talk to the office directly about your reservation rather than doing it thru the website. But note the office is only open certain hours. The pillows and bedding were a bit run down, they were pilling and leaving little white balls all over our clothes and hair.

$250 a night for one of the dirtiest hotels I’ve ever stayed at. Booked 2 nights here, close to our friend’s wedding. Misleading pictures to say the least. A dump.Worms in the bathtub and wolf spiders crawling about. Signs in bathrooms admonish you Not to Flush TP, guess your supposed to keep it in the waste basket, but alas, no room service to clear it or other trash away, so after 2 days, kind of unsanitary. Just filthy! Not just our room but our friends toilet backed up and the owner/ manager accused her of flushing TP! Are you kidding? I lived for 17 years in Forestville and know the Russian River culture. This hotel gives a bad rep. To Monte Rio! Book elsewhere!

Showed up late one night, and got the last room. Jay was super courteous and accommodating. The room was great, and the setting was awesome. Beautiful place on the river. Flowers and sitting areas that are warm and inviting. A wonderful experience overall.

Awesome place to stay. Jay is the manager there and he is very friendly and gives you the feeling that he's there to make your stay as comfortable as possible. The place is a well kept, lush garden with a really cool backyard and private beach. When you walk downstairs in the morning, you'll find a nice little spread prepared for everyone..just help yourself to juice, muffins, coffee, and fruit when you're ready. Reminded me of the posadas i stayed at in Brazil. Very reasonable rates and very clean rooms. Great way to spend a weekend floating on the river. I couldn't have asked for anything else

Nice place, nice people.River View Garden is a apt name.The overall look and feel of the place is lush green. It is the kind of place where one can pass the day at the hotel feeling that you are already where you want to be.Absolutely fabulous location, views and gardens. Very clean rooms and bathrooms. Nothing fancy. Wifi is a simple ATT router. Owner let's you snap a photo of the passcode. (Speed acceptable: 18 down, 10 up, 30 millisecond ping)Outside balconies are being well maintained, but some of it needs paint. Core building is well taken care of and has better paint. Because of the incomplete painting, the building does not look as nice or solid as it really is.The owner and his family live in the top floor of one of the two buildings. We had unit 17, which has it's own balcony (not secluded) One unit has a full kitchen. All units have a good fridge.If you have a kayak, you can launch from the garden. You will see boaters from neighboring riverfront facilities. They are a mix of rentals and full time private homes.See photos.

The first night we stayed here the fire alarm went off 4 times throughout the night and twice more in the morning. We told the worker that was here the next morning and he said he would fix it. When we arrived later that night we pretty much went straight to bed to wake up and see that he HAD REMOVED THE SMOKE AND CARBON MONOXIDE DECTOR! That is not okay that put our lives at risk! We talked to him and he said he was going to put it back in when we left. He was so rude to my girlfriend who was explaining to him that this is unsafe and shouldn’t happen. Very bad customer service and a joke of a “resort”. 10/10 would not stay here

Jay is indeed a great host but our experience of this place is horrible. First time we were there it was nice but the second time it was disaster. As we drove in after dinner, the lady who owns the place was quarreling with Jay in very loud voice. She was extremely rude and badmouthed in a 'cheap' way. After watching it for sometime we decided to change our stay at 11:00 pm to Jenner. Last this you want on vacation rental is to get into middle of landlord's temper problems so never going again.

The booking was terrible, we arrived with 5 people for a room that has 3 beds. We book over a month in advance. Pre confirmed on the phone about how many were coming. Once we arrived we all gathered in the lobby, he started making up laws about there can only be 3 people per room. Later on we found out that 5 was the max for that room, We had 5. Over all the manager was very shady, I had to call my bank to stop him from charging me multiple times after we left. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone.

Update they did cancel with no charged so thats good👍🏼They don't even try to fix anything and don't care what people have to say about the place at all the refunds they say if you can cancel before 14 days you won't be charged but we trying to cancel and they say you have to pay 150 if you want to cancel and that doesn't make since at all like what bc me and my gf seen the reviews and we said no thank you so now we are fighting for we can get are money back bc this place isn't worth it at all

It’s a decent place to stay.The location and the view are very nice. But the furniture and building are quite old. No shampoo/conditioner and hair dryer in the room. You might need to ask for them.

Great cost place by the river. It's not the Hilton but it has a family run atmosphere. There's kayaks (not new but mostly working) that you can take straight into the river. Lotsa fun.
