If you're physically able to do big hikes/bike rides and get up to elevation quickly, this is a slice of big sur right in the city's back yard. It's also got weird nature hiding in the corners, like the spring wildflowers and the coffee berries and the crazy black oil beetle larvae that only come out at night in April.

Multiple hiking routes from the parking lot. This is a popular hiking spot as well as the route to descent to Grey Whale Cove Beach. Although it's a big parking lot, it gets filled close to noon. The hiking trails provide a great view along the highway 1 coast and devil's slide trail. The hike eventually reaches North Peak. South Peak, and Peak Mountain. Great workout hike.

Perfect place to visit if you want to get some good family time with a scenic hike in the mountains. This is not a difficult trail and should be ok for most people to do. At each turn along the trail you are treated to a different view, starting with panoramic views of the pacific looking initially towards the North and then gradually moving to a south facing view towards Montara State Beach. Carry enough water and make sure you have a pair of walking shoes on!!

Awesome hiking and biking trails. Old Pedro Mountain Road Trail goes all the way to Pacifica and avoids bicycling or walking on highway 1. If you just want to go to double slide there's a short Trail to gray whale Cove for hikers and bikes then again avoids the most dangerous stretch of highway 1.

It was a walking between a water and bridge experience. The view was spectacular. There are different ways to get on top and get more adventures. We had been on surface since we went there with our 7 month baby. It’s so scenic.

One of my most favorite hiking places period. Beautiful scenery, multiple hiking trails, you can keep hiking endlessly!Gorgeous views of ocean and hills.Parking lot is free but gets full on weekends. There are two portable toilets next to parking lot (up top).Trails range from easy to moderate and can be done with kids (not very stroller friendly though).

Definitely a worthwhile day hike close to the city. The views were nice but nothing I would call spectacular. There’s a high chance it’ll be cloudy given how close it is to the peninsula, so it’s important to bring layers. I found myself putting them on and off throughout the whole hike. One of my favorite parts about the hike was the transition where we walked past the fog and entered the sunny part of the hike near the top of the mountain.

Montara Mountain (also called McNee Ranch) is part of Montara State Beach. The mountain is a northern spur of the Santa Cruz Mountains. The highest point in the 690-acre ranch rises to 1,898 feet above sea level. We did nice 9 miles hike with over 2,000 feet elevation gained. We park at Montara State Beach. Parking is free, but no restroom, no water in the area. Bring hiking poles or expect to slowdown in some areas.

A great free state park to go hiking. The views on a clear day are incredible and the altitude change as you ascend the hills along the coast reward you with amazing views of the California coast line the higher you go. Hiking or biking allowed and even dogs allowed on the trails.

Was on the top of my list. Beautiful. Majestic views. Flowers everywhere. The mist is cool. Windy so never hot. Small hares, small birds all over the place. Challenging trails as well as easy ones make it accessible for all. Not wheelchair friendly.

Not crowded and very beautiful sunset. Be warned- the trail can get very steep at certain sections and it felt closer to rock climbing than hiking. Also there are a lot of side trails so it's easy to get lost.Good reception up top so there's that. Views are better down rather than up top at Mt Pacifica

Great place for a hike and a bike ride. There are lots of trails and some go way far from the starting point if you are feeling like a long one. The views are great and the trails are fairly well maintained. Can be busy on weekends

This is a spectacular beach, very wide and in which one does not feel that it is very crowded. Parking can be problematic because it is very small and does not have very easy access since the wooden staircase that was once functional is no longer functional. It is usually windy so bringing something to protect yourself from the sun can be a good idea. I love this beach.

Great hike, but not recomended if you are not in good shape as there is many steep hills. Bring good hiking boots. I was wearing running sneakers and it was a rough way down. The beginning area is shaded but must of the time is sunny, bring sunblock. They only downside is that is a long hike with no bathrooms. I will definitely do it again.

This is a great place for a somewhat challenging hike. There is a lot of climbing, but the views along the way and at the top are well worth it.

I ride my bike here all the time. The trails are fun. Fast and loose with big features. Some of the most challenging stuff I have found since moving to the bay area. There are a couple flowy trails with nice views too... So I have heard.

One of the best beaches in the Bay. A perfect beach for letting your dogs run and walking along the water. Easy parking. Dirty restrooms but that's to be expected. I will come back! The color of the water here was spectacular.

Great views, leash friendly, free parking (no permit or fee required) least populated and very relaxing. It's a hike down to the beach via a staircase or washout paths. A coat would also be a good idea if you go before noon.

Beautiful 360• views. Tough trek down without much support and super windy that will push you away as well.

The bunker is a must see, and the views all around are breathtaking. The Parking access is kind of difficult to maneuver larger vehicles through though, so be careful!
