Excellent ACE- good selection for many things! Predictable hardware sore stuff is there, but their kitchen section is outstanding and they have a great and big work clothes section. Have a pretty decent selection of RV things too. So helpful to be able to knock out several weekend chores and stuff for projects in one place.

My husband bought an expensive ($340) nail gun here that we had never used before, for a first time project. The sales associate recommended finishing nails for it. Turns out he gave my husband the wrong nails for the gun, causing it to break catastrophically on the first fire. Luckily no one was injured.They refused to accept a return on the item, despite their mistake.We won't be shopping here ever again.Buyer beware.

Good customer service!The owner needs to do better, prices are often high and inconsistent. They also expect customers to know policies that are not posted in the store. As a customer it was extremely rude for an employee to yell for my attention, over other customers just to tell me that clothing items must be purchased at the customer service desk.

Love this store but I personally don't like how often the employees ask me if I need help and it often feels like they are watching me/following me around as if I'm gonna steal or something. Iv been a regular and loyal customer for over 3 years now so it's pretty annoying. There's always parking spaces open which is nice and there's a pretty good variety of products in the store. Rarely is an item out of stock but some things, like the pet section for example, are extremely over priced. Overall it's a great store.

I love this store. Except for a rude thing that happen when I bought a water heater the other day. I had one overnight.And my husband tore into the box. But we never plugged it in.Or even tried but we decided to get a larger water heater from the same place, so we tried to return it. Ace would not return it. They said the company who they bought it from would have to do it. After I called that company and then they talked to ace and told them to return it! But ace would not honor that request. And I'm a long time customer. I was really shock.in no where in the store nor on the receipt did it say once u take a water heater home, u can't return it to us.

This Ace is consistently overpriced, parking lot is tiny and you'll have to drive through mud puddles, aisles are narrow and claustrophobic, and the building itself is an eyesore. The owner seems to be gouging the residents who must use this overpriced store.

The employees appear to be working hard they are always busy finding something to do other than greet a customer and make the customer have to chase them down for assistance but once you do catch an employee they will get you what you need or find a good substitute. They are all very knowledgeable and if they aren't sure they verify and make you feel confident about your purchase.

I have shopped at McKinleyville Ace Hardware for 20+ years. Their prices have generally been well above other hardware stores, but I continued shopping there because they are local. Today, as I entered the store, I was greeted by a sign that read, "due to government handouts, we are unable to find enough employees to staff our store." Give me a break. Your customer service has been quite poor all these years, so this lame political excuse is just that--lame. Offer a living wage and you will find enough willing, competent employees to staff your store properly. Not long ago, I asked for assistance in the plumbing department. The assistant that responded had no knowledge of plumbing beyond how to turn on a faucet. I could go on with your incompetence. You used to have a man in the paint department who knew what he was talking about. I have not found that to be the case in your other departments. Shame on the owners. I will not be back.

Have had a few special orders at McK store over the years. Won’t be giving them my business again - consistently don’t contact when order is in. Rude customer service. Used to walk me to location in store where something is. Now only give instructions which turn out to be for a similar product but not the one asked about. They require masks to be worn before entering the store and if you don’t comply you will be told to leave (not me but witnessed it). One of the employees is very rude and he seems to be the one or one of them in charge, young heavyset man. For sale items they don’t have an example pre-set up and they refuse to let you open a poorly labeled box to even look inside.

I came in after calling multiple times to confirm that a yeti product was in stock AND confirmed the sale price of $39.59…i spoke with an associate, Tia, TWICE to confirm the price and the correct item. When I arrived for some reason the item was now $199.99 and it was like i never called to confirm these things…after another associate called Tia it was determined that she was quoted the wrong price, I guess twice somehow, even tho i was calling to specifically confirm the cost of the item. This was a waste of time, a waste of gas and money, and very rude NO “customer service.”There are other ace stores you can support, they have the same products…

Great staff, everyone at least knows a little bit about everything in there, then they have department specialists for more in-depth questions. Nice, wide selection of stock and options for almost all home improvement projects. Exactly what I look for in a hardware store.

Typically they answer questions and then read the product label, reversing what they initially said.The paint manager sold me 5 gal of deck stain, after applying it I found out it was siding stain, not deck stain.THEY SOLD ME THE WRONG PRODUCT AND WOULDN'T STAND BEHIND THEIR MISTAKE.Eventually the fellow that sold me the siding stain confessed to making a mistake.There is a huge turnover of employees. From month to month most of the staff changes. This tells me that most of their staff is inexperienced and discontented.

Horrible!!!!!!!!! I have spent a ton of money over the last 15 years, and will NEVER again go there. I tried to return an item I bought in December, in the Christmas section, next to all the other Christmas lights. They refused and said it was a Halloween item. The lights never said anything about Halloween, and were identical to the same ones for Christmas. After standing in a long line, and told they wouldn't take it back, a floor manager (Ryan) rudely said they wouldn't return it. It was still in the unopened box and only purchased a week earlier. I told him that I own a retail business in town, and would never let a customer leave upset over such a small issue. I said it was a poor managerial decision. He then told me to leave. I never raised my voice, used foul language, or said his name. I cannot for the life of me understand why they would throw away a long time customer over such an little issue. All I wanted was an exchange or refund on an unused item. This would have cost them nothing, but instead Ryan caused the business to loose dozens of future sales, hundreds of future dollars, and leave a customer telling everybody about the horrible service he received at ACE Mckinleyville. That was truly a HORRIBLE managerial decision.

I've been to a lot of Ace hardware stores the one on McKinleyville seems to have a lot of product in stock so far I been able to find everything that I need from plumbing to electrical to kitchen small appliances paint you name it friendly and helpful they even have a small nursery good place to go

Customer service is really good and that makes a difference. We buy a lot of supplies here for a small hotel we run so I'm in there a lot. Marisa, a clerk was one helpful employee although there a few others but I don't recall their names.

Asked the lady to help me pick the right color for the walls. Even brought the sample I had to compare shades. She just told me I had e to choose from the wall. I don't know anything about paint. No help at all.

This store has really changed, it is nothing like it was a few years ago. There are only a few of the original employees left at this store that I feel comfortable around and that seem really knowledgeable about products. Also, they no longer have a lumber department like they had in their previous location.

I've never had a bad experience. Employees I dealt with seem to know there stuff. Only complaint is that I live across the street and traffic has pickup quite a bit, I would expect that, they are a great hardware store.

The staff at Ace are incredibly helpful and friendly. I teach in McKinleyville and about a year ago was working on a garden project with my kiddos. I went to Ace to get gloves for the class and asked if the business would be able to help with the cost of the gloves as a charitable donation to the local school. An employee stepped up (I believe his name was Matthew) and voluntarily purchased the entire set of gloves! It was nice to see that the store’s employees really cared about helping the community hey serve. I go there regularly and am never disappointed.
