Simply stunning historic hotel with no creepy vibes. We booked a last minute 1 night stay in the copper room and were enveloped in warmth and comfort. The rooms are well appointed with everything you need. The copper tub felt like a transport back in time and very comfortably fit two with robes included. The main common area, boasting a beautiful fireplace, is a perfect place to relax, play games, have a glass of wine or just read. Breakfast, which comes with the room, had an amazing array of foods to choose from. My only complaint is we didn't have enough time to stay longer! Next stay will be longer so we can enjoy the elegant dining room.

Stayed at the hotel for 2 days concurrent with a meeting we held at the adjacent Axe and Rose Public House. Staff was wonderful and incredibly attentive. The hotel is incredibly charming and well appointed and would be a wonderful place to stay for pleasure (rather than my work-related reason). The garden areas outside of the hotel are lovely and I actually spent some time relaxing and doing some quiet work near one of the fountains.Food was AMAZING. Both the breakfast offered each morning, and the lunch / snacks provided to us by the Axe and Rose in the meeting. Truly great food and again...the staff were incredibly attentive. I highly recommend anyone staying here and/or even having a work event here.Walkability: Quant town to wander.Food & drinks: See above

I make a point of staying in non-corporate and usually older places when I travel. As such, I know to expect quirks, some wear-and-tear etc, in exchange for character and ambiance. The McCloud Hotel has both and I mostly enjoyed my stay. The bed was lovely and comfortable and the food I had there was good. However, this grand dame of a hotel seems to be devolving from shabby chic to mostly shabby. In terms of general upkeep (bumps, scrapes, chipped paint, shabby furniture) this hotel needs TLC. And there are definitely cleanliness issues: While eating breakfast I looked down to see a lot of dirt and what seemed to be mini chunks of something on the rug in the corner; the outside stairs down to the first floor were really dirty ~ and I knew they'd not been cleaned in a while because there was an old fluffed-out Q-tip covered in dirt on one of them; in my room the one antique chair was cushion-squished and dirty with a piece of fabric hanging loose on the side; there was dirt along the edges of most rooms, and ugly metal-bed frame pieces leaning against the wall in the hallway. Also, when I arrived there were clear cleaning-service issues: a dirty/wet bath mat, a dirty/used towel hanging from the bathroom door, and one of the coffee cups was dirty/used. I felt the same laxness at the related pub next door: the patio was filthy and I had to go find our waitperson twice for service.So.... This could be a gorgeous, beautifully maintained, classy old hotel and I find it sad that it's not treated as such by its owners. I love places with character ... but character that's nurtured and appreciated.

My sister and I just spent 5 amazing nights at this historic hotel! It was a winter wonderland and still had all of the Christmas decorations set up. Our room was perfect and the staff couldn't have been more helpful, warm and courteous. I definitely recommend the McCloud Hotel to anyone who wants a unique getaway location ... winter or summer.

My friend and I stayed at the guest house in the room with the clawed bathtub. So cute! There's a beautiful view of the top of Shasta from the veranda and the room was cozy. We nearly didn't book because AC wasn't listed on any of the guest house amenities list (we thought the house might be too old for AC), but we decided to go for it. Luckily, it feels like the house might have central AC and there's even a fan in the room. It reached 100 degrees outside this weekend, but it was still cool in the room. Anyway, I very much recommend the guesthouse! I can't speak to the service since we didn't really use it.

Plus 1-Star for being Dog Friendly. My 11-pound Goldendoodle LuLu was able to eat her Farmer's Dog breakfast that I brought from home while I sampled the many items available each morning at the 8:00 AM breakfast buffet. Once I made a "custom scramble" using fried eggs, country potatoes, bacon, avocado, spring onions, and Tapatío sauce. Another morning I enjoyed scrambled eggs, sausage patties, waffles with blueberries and real maple syrup. Chilled fresh whole milk, O.J. hot coffee (locally roasted), several bread choices, pastries, fruit, and cereal. On Wednesday evening our party of four (and LuLu) had a wonderful dinner on the outdoor patio at the Sage Restaurant. For me the wonderful food makes up for any shortcoming mentioned in reviews regarding chipped paint, cleanliness, no TV in the rooms, no bar, Monday-Tuesday restaurant closure, etc. Thankfully daily maid service is not offered, keeps me from having to hang a "Do Not Disturb" sign or telling staff I don't want it. My room's AC kept me cool during July with 90-degree temps. In closing, thank you Cindy for your hospitality and willingness to share your knowledge of local history and activities in and around picturesque historic McCloud.

Charming hotel in a lovely town near Mt Shasta. My friend and I found this hotel last minute when our travel plans have changed. We could not be happier. Beautiful large room with super comfortable bed. Delicious breakfast that we could eat in the beautifully landscape garden. The staff was very friendly, helpful and responsive. We can't wait to be back.

My wife and I visited here last weekend for three nights. It was a trip for my wifes birthday which is always a big deal to me. Being a special time I ordered flowers to be in the room upon our arrival. This service is offered when you book on-line. Upon arriving in our room, there were no flowers. There was only one person working in the building. I asked her about them not being there. She shrugged her shoulders but did call Cindy the owner. I never received an apology or sorry from either party. I texted Cindy about it and asked to have it taken off of my bill. I never received a response. It would have been nice to get an apology from Cindy. There is a sheet in the room that says the Sage room is closed. But our first night there it was open and a number of people were there eating. It was closed the other two nights we were there. A number of couples came in and asked "us" if the Sage room was open. I also asked to have reservations at the Axe next door for the night we arrived. They had no reservation for us.There is advertised wine between 4 and 5. There was never anyone there to make that happen. There is advertised a breakfast "to order". There was a buffet that was quite acceptable. What it boils down to is if you want customer service, this is not the place. They need to change their website to what is really going to be available. We did enjoy our stay there and in the area. It just should not have been full of frustrations. But we found a gem at the golf course where there was fantastic breakfasts and lunch.

I sometimes wonder whether we were staying in the same hotel as some of the other reviewers. We stayed here 7 years ago when we rated it as one of the best hotels we had ever stayed in, which is why we returned for 2 days in October 2022.On arrival around 4.30pm there was no one at reception, and our key was in an envelope on the desk, so we found our own way to our room. The whole hotel had clearly seen better days, and there were scuff marks everywhere, dirty carpets, and a room with spartan furnishings. They advertised a "wine hour" both on the website and in reception, but there was no one around to enable us to take advantage of it. We eventually found the owner and asked whether we needed to book a table for dinner. There was no food offered on Monday and Tuesday evenings, and neither did anywhere else in McCloud so we had to drive into Shasta about 11 miles away. The breakfasts were basic, with prepacked cereals in plastic packages which we were expected to tear the tops off and use as a bowl unless we specifically asked for one. The cooked breakfast was poor. There was no tea in our room, so we had to save some tea bags from breakfast, plus a cup of milk and take them to our rooms to use later. There was no bar, and no way to buy drinks during the course of the evening. I could forgive the lack of TV in the room if there had been some hospitality, but there was none. There is no maid service in the morning. On our return from a hike at the end of the day our bed remained unmade. There are never any staff around apart from at breakfast. I could go on, but what's the point. This is NOT a $200 per night experience and we have had better service from $80 per night motels. At this price point, we would expect some service, the ability to have dinner and drinks, and thermostatic showers in the ensuites rather than mixer taps over a bath behind a curtain, and clean carpets. We will not be back. I have given it 2 stars, which is generous, because at least the bed was clean and comfortable, and the area is glorious for hiking.Fortunately, we moved on to the Lithia Springs Resort in Ashland, which was much cheaper, offered exemplary service and which restored our faith in American hospitality.

I had a wonderful experience at McCloud Hotel in McCloud California during my stay. The hotel is beautiful in a charming, historic kind of way. It's kept very clean and appears to be well-maintained. Check-in was quick and easy. The woman behind the counter (whom I believe was the proprietress) was very friendly. McCloud Hotel has a restaurant inside the hotel which makes it convenient as we enjoyed dinner on site at Sage during our stay. The food was quite good. We had a party of around 20 guests so it did take some time for the food to be served. The restaurant offers a variety of wines choose from from their extensive wine list but no beer as far as I noticed. The restaurant can accommodate children as well with standard child fare to select from. I would love to return one day and stay another night or two at McCloud Hotel. If you're in the area check it out. It's a beautiful and historic building.

We absolutely loved staying here. The room had a huge copper bathtub, views of the mountain and a porch. Breakfast was great. Dinner was even better. Wifi was flawless. I was very on-edge before arriving as we were travelling with our small child and B&B's can sometimes be more "adults-only." But everyone I met (staff & guests) was welcoming, nice and helpful. Can't wait to stay again!!

The property looks more like a historical house with a lot of history behind it. As a matter of fact, it was much better than I expected and I guess it got upgraded before. And I love the room which has a bathtub against the window and it allows my four leg staying withe. And they even prepared a big bed for my pet although she didn't use it during our 2 days visit, plus they prepared a water bowl for her as well. The check in process was completely contactless and it works very well. They also leave a lot of disinfectant in the room and everywhere in the lobby. They even have a container of dog treat at the lobby desk which is very useful for guests who carry pets with them. Overall, it's a wonderful place to stay and I am so enjoy our stay at this hotel plus they have their own restaurant just next door. Certainly, I will come again next time when I visit the nearby national parks.

We had the pleasure of staying at th McCloud Hotel last weekend for my brother in laws wedding. He and his bride booked all the rooms and the grounds for guests in the wedding party and it was such an incredible experience. The hotel is so rich in history and each room is unique. It feels warm and inviting the entire time you're there. There's a communal tv room for the kids and the breakfast menu was amazing! Truly a beautiful place. Oh! And dog friendly. They provided dog bowls, a bed and treats! We will definitely. Be back.

Used to love Hotel Mc Cloud under prior management - as a matter of fact we would stay there every year for a week during the summer for many years and alway had a great experience and kept wonderful memories when the kids where youngHowever this time it was quite disappointing- they only had a one single bed room the night we arrived although we booked for 3 people - they accommodated us with a suite (for a much higher price) - dirty carpets - smelly room - stingy amenities- did not do the room although we specifically asked after the first nightWhen coming down for breakfast (at around 9am) - most trays where empty and we had to find the rare staff and asked them to replenish the food - we were made felt we were a bother … and had to wait 30mn to eventually get our scrambled eggs although we were the only one in the restaurantBreakfast trays left all day in the middle of the lobby breaking down the charm of this beautiful historical entryThe place is sorely understaffed and the staff generally hostileAnyway we will find some alternatives in the future (Mc Cloud is a magic village)

Our family of five truly enjoyed our stay at the McCloud Hotel. We were celebrating my husband’s birthday and the annual reopening of the ski resort. Our host Cindy, her lovely staff and sweet pooch Bambi went out of their way to accommodate our dynamic family and make us feel at home. We stayed in Suite 217 and Garden View room 204. Both rooms were well appointed, beautifully decorated and comfy as can be. Highlights of our rooms included a large jacuzzi tub, a balcony overlooking Main St., and plenty of room to spread out in the giant rooms and lavatories. Both king beds were SOOO comfy. We dined with them for breakfast and dinner. The food was fresh, thoughtfully prepared and well presented. We're a family of self-professed "foodies" and there wasn't a dish we didn't care for. Lovely wine selection too! We'll most definitely be returning. Thanks again from the Anderson family!!

Beautiful little town in Siskiyou County. This also happens to be some of the best food ever! We had a beautiful ski day with our daughter ❤ and then a great meal at the McCloud Hotel. Reasonably priced. The cocktails were really yummy too! Get the crispy Brussel Sprouts.

The bed was very comfortable, but the room lamps and floors in corners were very dusting. Pictures and lamp shades were crooked. Curtains were unpressed. Area rug was dirty and they said on the flyer that coffee was available 24 hours and day in the lobby which was not true. Had instant coffee in our room, but fresh brewed not available until 8:00. Outside sitting area was very nice and lobby area very homey.

McCloud Hotel is a beautifully restored historic building in the quiet town of McCloud. A block down the street there are a few shops and places to eat. A home cooked breakfast is included and it was delicious. The innkeeper, Cindy, was delightful and provided an abundance of historic information about the hotel and the town.Nearby activities: McCloud Falls - Upper, Middle, LowerUpper and lower Falls have an overlook close to the parking lot and middle Falls is a hike. Burney Falls - you can take a short walk to the base of the Falls or a mile hike that takes you to the top of the Falls

My husband and I really enjoyed our stay at the McCloud Hotel. The rooms are spacious and have wonderful amenities. Cindy, the innkeeper, was a gracious hostess. She was very knowledgeable about the area’s history, and she had a delicious made to order breakfast ready for us each morning. The hotel is a gem in the charming town of McCloud.

What a delight we have found in the McCloud Hotel. Our room is spacious with lovely views. The bed is heavenly and the linens are dreamy. I especially loved the bathrobes and bath towels. The towels are a great size and super thick! Slipping into the robe on a chilly morning was like a warm hug. Breakfast issues included. I had the avocado toast and it was so good. The hotel restaurant, Sage, was great for breakfast but OUTSTANDING for dinner. The Chef Clint rivals the best CA restaurants. There are no details missed here. Staff ar great. Oh and they haveGREAT wines. As winery owners we are quite discerning so for us to compliment their wine list is HUGE! You will LOVE the beautiful McCloud Hotel!

The staff are so WONDERFUL. This is the most dog friendly hotel we have visited. Our room was beautiful and very comfortable with close access to easy exit and entry for dog potty breaks. We were especially touched by the way we were able to eat a delicious dinner in the lobby so that our 2 dogs could be near. The food was also incredible. I highly recommend this location and plan to get back as soon as I can. Thank you McCloud Inn Staff

The McCloud Hotel is an amazing property. Lovingly restored by Cindy and Gary, the Innkeepers, everything about it perfectly balances preserving the historical building and features with providing luxury to its guests. From the stunning period exterior of the hotel, to the gardens delivering privacy and peace, to the unique reception area with original wooden beams and features, to the ample bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms, the hotel has that unique ability to slow your pulse and raise your humor. The staff are both professional and friendly, always ready to help make your stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. When we asked about hiking in the Mt. Shasta area, a couple of the staff got together and provided us with 3 great alternatives. (We settled on Black Butte, a 5.5 mile hike with stunning views of Mt. Shasta.)The restaurant deserves a special mention. The quality of the food equals any you’d hope to find in a major city. As a vegan, I was particularly delighted to see a vegan appetizer on the menu and a daily vegan special main dish. Both were delicious! The wine menu was tastefully put together, providing a mixture of local, national and international wines. If this restaurant was located in the Bay Area, we’d be regulars. This is my second stay at the McCloud Hotel and each time the visit has been fantastic. The local area is a hiker’s paradise, and the fly-fishing on both the McCloud and the Sacramento is out of this world. We’ll definitely be back!

We stayed in the very nice historical building near mount Shasta. Everything was very nice and relaxing. Very quiet town. Very comfortable beds, nice breakfast, great garden. The only bad thing is that their restaurant serves dinners only from Wednesday to Sunday. Be sure to order pankakes.
