The Mad Dog Cafe makes excellent sandwiches and more, and I thoroughly enjoyed The Avalanche. The few bites I had of The Wall were quite tasty - so much so that I almost wish that I had gotten that sandwich instead (next time). Very comfortable atmosphere, and the staff are quite friendly, very helpful, and skilled.Parking: Parking is available on the dirt strip adjacent to the road, across the street from the cafe. If they are not too busy, parking is a breeze; however, when they are busy, parking can be frustratingly close to impossible. And, since the parking is on the opposite side of the road, when they are busy, getting over and back can feel like a two-lane version of real-world Frogger.Wheelchair accessibility: There is a ramp in front to get up to the deck and store entry, but it is a little steep and rough. Caution is advised. I did not see any signed handicap parking.

We went for lotto tickets. Line went fast, and the food looked and smelled amazing! Next time, I'm getting a sandwich!

Getting better. Dave Kirby set the standard HIGH! DAVE'S wife was a Great Baker and pies, cakes, etc. Deli makes nice sandwiches. Have been stopping here since 1967. Alpine county is California's smallest population less than 1200 people.Parking: Limited area, side of road.

A friendly, clean, place that is popular amongst locals. The breakfast burritos are delicious. A really good small business. It also appears to be the place that everyone buys their lotto tickets.Parking: Good sized plowed lot

We've been stopping here for the past 25 years, and summer or winter, I've never been disappointed. I love the warmth of the staff and the sandwiches are delicious.Grab some chips, a sammie, a drink, and stretch your legs along part of the historic Pony Express route. You won't regret it.

We went to get lottery tickets only to find they are carrying almost a complete line of Stonewall Kitchen sauces, jams. etc. No need to mail order.

Really friendly staff. They let me stay warm for a while after my car broke down and I was waiting for a ride. I only had a bagel with cream cheese but it was above average & the bagel was super soft. The young deli attendant was professional and courteous. Nice store in an old building and a great location for travelers.

Great lunch, coffee, ice cream spot. Especially the lavender latte. Great for getting gifts for friends if you're on vacation. Fun to go here after climbing in Woodfords canyon. Great people here.

Stumbled upon Mad Dog Cafe on a long road trip - desperate for caffeine and restroom facilities we were pleasantly surprised by a large and delicious food menu - soups, deli sandwiches, ice cream to name a few. Friendly employees, a gem on the 88.

Breakfast bagels were awesome. Too many cute souvenirs. I took a star off for the $250 bill of stuff my wife bought. We went in for coffee.

An amazing store, with amazing and friendly employees. I have been in the area since 1976. I always go back to this store. One day I will purchase the winning lottery ticket from them. Yeah right lol!

We had two sandwiches from Mad dog Café today. Mine was ham, black forest ham, and nice and thick and my friend had the turkey. Both were delicious. And if you’d like chocolate chip cookies they were soft and almost doughy, and melted in your mouth.

I just drive down from Nevada to play lottery. It a beautiful Saturday drive for me. Folks are nice. I keep telling myself to one day try the sandwiches. They look tasty. Love the old picks from when it was an actual Pony Express stop.

I had no idea where the heck this was, so thanks Google for telling me where I was! I did a group ride and this was one of our stops. What a neat little place! I grabbed hot coco to warm up. They had friendly staff and a lot of cool things, many looked to be local foods and such. If you are in the area it is a must for a quick stop! Check them out!

New owners - very nice people, and they really seem to like cyclists. Great deli turkey sandwiches, plus new menu with fancier things like panini. Awesome blackberry muffins, peach pie, and great coffee, too.

I stopped in with 12 friends on a motorcycle ride. Extremely friendly staff, and we kept them very busy for a while. Excellent food. I had a delicious frittata with fresh fruit. It was perfect for the day.

Sandwich was very good. But was difficult to eat while holding my 11 month old. They do not have high chairs or child seats. Definitely not child friendly. Also cafe in markleeville is more family friendly.

07/23/18: As the owner mentioned, Woodford's Station has changed ownership and we had a very nice experience, welcoming and friendly service. Thanks to the owners for the heads up to update my review! We look forward to visiting again!Old review:Extremely rude people...On being asked for some water from the deli..."Sir, the bathroom is right there...it has the same water I have".They also apparently hate bicyclists. "You put your bike on the porch. Do you want me to wash it for you"?[No bike stands of course, on this extremely popular bike route].
