We were on vacation in Mammoth when my dog, Beau, started to have some symptoms reminiscent of a UTI. Alpen Veterinary was able to see him sooner than Bishop could, so I brought him here. What followed was a really strange experience...Dr. Teslaa seemed kind enough at first. He checked Beau out and ran a few tests, including an ultrasound, where everything seemed normal. We got to the urinalysis and they used a catheter, which I was in the room for. Beau did great but I'm not used to being there while a vet does something this invasive.The urinalysis showed some protein. Dr. Teslaa diagnosed Beau with kidney disease and said the cause was dental disease as he has gingivitis on his back teeth. He talked about a paper he's publishing about the link between dental health and kidney disease and how it's going to shock the veterinary community. His treatment plan: renal support supplements and antibiotics for 60-90 days at which point he recommends dental work.This was a lot to process (chronic kidney disease is not reversible) and I shed a few tears but tried to keep it together. I went into the lobby to pay out and when I finished, Dr. Teslaa called us back into the room. He showed me an ultrasound or x-ray from a dog that came in a few days earlier. He'd diagnosed this dog with kidney disease. He told me "This dog died the next day". Sorry, what?Beau is nearly 10 years old now, but he's been healthy his entire life. I brought him in for mild symptoms and left entirely panicked, feeling like I am already losing him. Dr. Teslaa seems knowledgable and maybe his research will genuinely make waves in the veterinary community, but he treated us like a case study.We're home now and I took Beau into his regular vet for a full panel blood test. I don't have the results yet, but I'm feeling much more hopeful than I was at Alpen.One star because the woman at the front was very sweet and the prices are fair. Regardless, I do not recommend going here.

We were in town for a vacation and our pup had Happy Tail Syndrome. They saw us 10 minutes after calling and the Doctor spent a lot of time with our pup, medicated her and wrapped her tail. He’s amazing! So thankful.

This vet put my dog on antibiotics for over a year despite my repeated request to have him address his diarrhea through other methods. My dog actually has a food allergy and as soon as we switched food it completely subsided. The vet has been unprofessional and not cordial to me on multiple occasions. He actually told me I was not giving my dog adequate care even though he was being treated in LA (prior to him) by a very reputable vet in West Hollywood and Santa Clarita where he did a full treatment for giardia and put on probiotics that were helping the situation. He told me that my dog was, "a mess" before coming to him. He also said many issues were discovered by him and neglected. My dog had hip surgery in 2011 and it was 100% known he had joint stiffness and mobility issues. My dog is 15 and has always favored his left side since his surgery.Not only was he dismissive but this vet actually raised their voice to me on the phone when I tried to inquire more about his treatments that my aunt was being recommended. Again, it was deeply unprofessional to not be able to explain the reason for the treatments to the owner of the pet.When I was there again visiting, he was visibly mad when I could not assist in my aunt's cat treatment in the procedure room because I have Vasovagal syncope seeing needles. Instead of telling me kindly to wait in the seating area he begrudgingly told me he'd have to call in his tech to help. Isn't that what your tech is for? Why would you not have any respect for someone's medical condition and verbally chastise them. This vet seems extremely unhappy with his profession and does not respect his clients.If this vet cannot interact with customers, answer question, and treat people with respect, I suggest getting another profession.

My dog needed help while we were on a camping trip. I did not have phone reception to call around and find a vet, so I just showed up at the office, and they were able to squeeze me in. The front office manager was very kind and welcoming, and the doctor was great with my dog, who was shaking and terrified at first. He was wonderful at calming her down and treating her wound. I am so grateful to both of them for their help. We camp in the area a couple of times a year, and I am definitely keeping this office's information on hand, just in case. If we lived in the area full-time, this would be my go-to vet.

Dr. Teslaa is amazing and I’m very glad I found this incredible vet hospital! I was able to get easy help after hours and get a same day appointment after my poor dog had an emergency. We got my dog’s blood work back the next day and worked on a treatment plan from there; I had to leave my dog with them so he could get IV fluids and I knew he was in good hands, it’s clear that all of the wonderful people at Alpen Vet Hospital really care about your animals. Even better, everything was more affordable than when I would take my sweet old senior cats to the vet in the city that I used to live in! Really good vets can sometimes be hard to find and I feel very lucky to have found such a wonderful team here in Mammoth, I’ll be going to them as long as I live in the area and recommending them to all of my friends with pets. Thank you for taking such good care of my pup!

Dr. Teslaa is always so warm and caring and insightful about our dog. We have a 15 year old Maltese and he takes great care of him. We also live in Los Angeles and Sara is so lovely about sending me his meds if we aren’t in Mammoth. We feel very happy and safe bringing our pup to see them.

My guy and I came to Mammoth (my first time) and my 2-yo husky had diarrhea that got worse into the night and next day. We live at near sea level and I thought maybe it was altitude sickness since it didn’t kick in until we arrived. She was going downhill so fast, I cleaned up so many messes, I was terrified it was life-threatening. We’re over 300 miles from her vet so I looked up local vets and Alpen popped up just over a mile away. After calling ahead, their lovely receptionist said they’d squeeze my girl in. Dr. Teslaa and his tech were wonderful, effortlessly thorough and efficient and it’s honestly the best vet visit we’ve ever had. He was able to diagnose the problem with ease (giardia!), give her an antibiotic and anti-emetic injection that helped almost immediately, and sent us home with meds to help my baby feel better. Best of all, the cost was incredible, I was shocked by the low cost compared to the fantastic care we received! I wish our regular vet was this wonderful!!

Efficient walk-in care for a cut paw. My dog wouldn’t let me near his injured paw, but let the vet handle it to examine the injury. The injury was addressed, and we went back to our vacation in under an hour. Thankful for the expert care, and associated peace of mind.

We were pleased with the service received. We were able to schedule an appointment with then right away. The staff was pleasant and helpful. They took the time to understand our dogs issues answered our questions. Diagnosed her condition and help us understand our pets situation and what treatment options were available. He didn't push more expensive treatment options since she is old and we didn't want to put her through invasive procedures but wanted to remaining life to be comfortable.Their follow up was excellent. We received an email the next day summarizing the diagnosis, treatment, instruction to administer medications and the followup actions required to bring back to good health.Our pets health has never been better! She is thriving and doing great! We couldn't be happier!

So we were camping and our little Boston terrier got loose and got into a fight with a my cousins husky. Alpen was able to squeeze us in for wound care that day. Very much appreciated!Vet was very knowledgeable. We had a great experience! Bailey the Boston is healing up and very happy at home.

Dr. Tesla is fantastic. I spend my summers in Mammoth and for the past 5 years have been going to Alpen Veterinary Hospital. He is my regular vet for all my pets, 2 dogs and a very old cat, even though I live in the Bay Area and have access to many vets. I use Dr. Tessa for their regular check ups and any emergencies or care they need when we are in Mammoth. He does all their treatment with me in the room, discusses options with me, and consults with the vets I use in the Bay Area.I am so grateful for the superb treatment my animals have received under his care. Dr. TeSlaa provided excellent care for our dog after some post surgery issues from a procedure by our regular vet in LA. Our dog's minor infection cleared up with the medication Dr. TeSlaa provided. We returned from our trip and visited our regular vet. He concurred with Dr TeSlaa's treatment. Dr. TeSlaa's rates were very reasonable as well.

So grateful for Dr. TeSlaa's expertise last week when my dog consumed an absurd amount of chocolate. He was wonderful in taking care of her throughout the night in making sure her kidneys were passing the fluids she was on. Dr.Teslaa is the most competent and wise vet I have ever had the pleasure of having my pets be treated by. He always puts your animals welfare before his pocketbook and your feelings. Here's an example of excellence: I left a message for the office when it was closed on a Saturday that my dog was having breathing problems but that I'd check back on Monday for an appointment. Dr. Teslaa called me on the weekend. He actually listened to vm and called. Wow. My old French Bulldog needed a surgical procedure to open her airways. Dr. Teslaa did an amazing job and his office took excellent care of my old girl. Dr. Teslaa is very personable and likes to share detailed information of what is going on. He loves to share images and documents explaining the situation. I'm so grateful I found this vet. We'll be driving from LA for future visits. No more big city industrial vets for me. Thank you!

Our beloved family dog became severely ill while we were on vacation in Mammoth. Dr Teslaa answered the phone immediately and came in off-hours to help us. He promptly began treatment of the symptoms and bloodwork to diagnose the issue and our dog was feeling much better after an overnight stay. We are so grateful that he was able to receive such compassionate and excellent care while we were away from home.

We were vacationing in Mammoth Lakes and my dog got very sick and we had to take her in for the Dr. to see. After a call they were able to see her pretty quickly and I am happy to say that the vet and his staff were very kind, helpful and did a superb job on taking care of my dog. I was told to take her in a couple of weeks to my regular vet and afterthey checked her out she came out with a good health check and were very positive with the care she was given by Alpen Vet Hospital. Based on my experience I would recommend them!

I just moved to Mammoth Lakes with my darling 4-year-old Teddy --a Poodle mix-- and wanted to find the best Vet for his health care. The first 3 people I met with dogs didn't hesitate -- Dr. TeSlaa! Two days later, I noticed Teddy's right paw was bothering him. The next day we we're at the Alpen Veterinary hospital and met the wonderful & caring Dr.TeSlaa who took exceptional care of Teddy! My 17lb dog was attacked by a 70lb dog and had significant damage to her mouth and multiple bites. The office was very accommodating getting her seen as soon as possible and Dr. TeSlaa was very thorough and gentle in his examination. She was admitted to the animal hospital and treated for multiple lacerations and a broken jaw. He was very thorough in explaining her after care and what was done for her treatment. I highly recommend this vet and if I lived in the area I would only take my animals here.

We were passing through town on a cross country trip, and our kitty's eye began weeping. We called Aspen first thing in the morning and they were kind enough to fit us in before noon. The technician and the doctor were both incredibly professional and kind. They were kitty whisperers! Our kitty (he's actually a 15 year old siamese) let them give him a thorough check up. The doctor prescribed and gave us the proper eye drops immediately. It's been a few days and our kitty's eye seems to be healing. We can not thank Alpen enough for their excellent care. So grateful.

I was so grateful to find Alpen Veterinary Hospital. The whole process from scheduling an appointment, to the visit, and check ups were great. The staff there was so kind and helpful to me. I was really concerned about my dog's new behavior that he was exhibiting and Dr. TeSlaa took the time to answer all of my questions and address my concerns. He was very patient with us and I never felt rushed during my dog's examination. I felt as though he was genuinely concerned for the welfare of my dog. I have lived all over the country with my dogs, and it was nice to finally have an office visit with a Veterinarian who truly cared.My dog ended up having blood work run, among an x-ray and an EKG. The minute the blood results came in, I received an email from Dr. TeSlaa explaining his observations and where I should go from there. I greatly appreciated all of his help. I was also very happy that he wrote me prescriptions for my dog's medications and gave me his x-rays at no extra cost, since I was going to be moving from the area soon.Unfortunately after this, a couple of weeks later, I awoke to find my dog stumbling around and unable to walk properly. I was afraid that something was terribly wrong and called Dr. TeSlaa's cell phone. He immediately picked up and was able to get us in within a half hour. He was once again very helpful and made more suggestions to get my dog back on track. I was greatly appreciative of his professional emergency care. I will be definitely using Alpen Veterinary Hospital again, should I return to Mammoth. Dr. T has been my Vet for Angel her entire 12.5 years of life. Dr. T has replaced both her knees and they have lasted 8 and 6 years with no problems.his care during her recent stroke and the medication that he prescribed to help her regain awareness and energy was spot on and brought her back to being the lively dog we have always known.in her later years she has slowed a bit but the heart is big and she always enjoys going to see her Vet.Doctor Tesla Is my vet and always will be.tom Cage

My only pet is a little mouse, and I have been thoroughly impressed with the care and treatment that Dr. Teslaa and his team have given my little guy. On our first visit a year ago, my mouse had a fractured leg and thanks to our trip to Alpen Vet he survived and fully recovered. Most recently I brought him in for pneumonia, and they gave him a thorough exam, and we were sent home with antibiotics and herbal supplements. I feel like many people would just brush aside care like this for a little mouse, but Dr. Teslaa makes every client's pet (no matter how big or small) feel important and a priority.
