As someone who has been keeping fish for years, I can confidently say that this store is a hidden gem in Los Angeles. The store boasts a wide range of aquarium supplies, from tanks and filters to decorations and food, ensuring that I can create the perfect aquatic habitat for my finned friends. The knowledgeable and friendly staff members are always eager to share their expertise and offer valuable advice on fish care and maintenance. Sunset Pet & Supplies has become my go-to destination for all things tropical fish, providing me with the resources and support I need to create stunning underwater worlds in my home.

These guys are very knowledgeable and have a wide variety of pet products. Their display tanks were very impressive, and the tropical fish selection is like none other. They always meet my need. I do, however, need to call ahead of time for larger orders

FISH LICE AND TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE: I went in several weeks ago because they were one of the few stores that carried fancy goldfish. I purchased 3 orandas and took them home and put them into a brand new tank that I had been cycling for 6 weeks. The tank was fully cycled before I put them in (I'm a very experienced fish keeper and have been in the hobby for years).Within a week one of the orandas starting getting red spots so I separated it into a quarantine tank. I know that fish can sometimes get sick within the first month of "coming home" since the stress can lead to a lowered immune system. My first thought was that it was an internal infection (septicemia?) so I started treating it with an antibiotic trio (the water is a bit yellow in the pictures since the nitrofurazone yellow colors the water). I also added aquarium salt and increased the temperature. Plus I made sure to mix the medication into the food which is faster way to get the antibiotics into their system. The fish showed no improvement during the first 7 days so I went to the pet store and spoke to Jims (not sure if that's the spelling of his name). I told him everything I was doing and he told me I was doing everything right and that he had nothing else to add. I know that antibiotics can take 10-14 days to fully work so I figured I simply needed to continue treatment.A few days after, the other 2 orandas in the main tank started showing red spots and then I noticed that there were little white spots in straight lines on the aquarium glass and immediately realized they were fish lice eggs (argulus)! Yikes! So I basically put the first fish through an intense antibiotic treatment that was totally unnecessary and useless.I called the store and spoke to Jesse and he told me that there was nothing that I could do except to PICK OFF THE LICE BY HAND--he didn't give me any treatment options and didn't explain to me any other options as a customer (full/partial refund, exchanges, returns, etc.). I told him that was terrible advice because that wouldn't take care of the eggs or any juveniles that weren't visible to the naked eye. He said he had no other advice other than to manually remove the ones I could see. I asked him if he knew they had a lice outbreak and he stayed quiet for a really long time. I insisted that he tell me the truth because I needed to know exactly what was wrong with my fish so I could treat them properly. He then admitted that he had seen "one or two lice" in the store aquariums which he had been picking off of them. I explained it was incredibly irresponsible to be selling sick fish and that I had 3 other aquariums that I could have spread them to (luckily, I know all about quarantining and also use separate equipment for the quarantine tank so as to not cross-contaminate).I hung up and called my other trusted fish store (Bob's Tropical Fish) and they immediately provided me with several treatments even though they weren't the ones to sell me the fish.Knowing now what was actually wrong with my fish, I spent the evening literally "picking" lice off of all 3 orandas. In total, I got about 75 lice!!!!! I put them all in a container and went to the store the next day.Jims was there and I showed him the lice and told him about my conversation with Jesse. I told him I was really upset about the whole thing, all the time (and money) I'd spent on trying to treat the first fish (for the WRONG disease) and that I hadn't been given any good advice, that Jesse had admitted he knew they had a lice problem and that I hadn't been given any "customer service" options. He tried to talk around in circles and didn't provide any additional help. After a while of insisting that something needed to be done, he said he would speak with the owner and that someone would call me with options. He took my name and phone number down and that was 5 days ago, Wednesday (March 15) and, not surprising, no one has called me back.AVOID THIS PLACE COMPLETELY--AWFUL FISH STORE AND AWFUL CUSTOMER SERVICE.

What a diamond in the rough! If you're looking for a good ol' LFS with healthy plants and livestock this is the place to be. No Fuss, no hassle, very friendly and knowledgable staff. It's a nice, clean, honest store with reasonable prices. I'm a customer for life!

It's one of my favorite LA pet stores. Honestly, rather, I'd rather go to the little guy rather than these huge chains to spend my money. The staff is friendly and very helpful. I have saltwater fish, so they're very knowledgeable about my needs. Fishtanks look clean. The animals look well taken care of. If they dont have something you want, they can order it very quickly.

This store has quite a nice variety of fish. I've been buying some very nice angel fish variants from them and all of them have been healthy and are currently thriving in my tanks. This is my go to LFS. Jesse, who's an employee at the shop is always helpful and answers all of my fish keeping questions. I highly recommend this shop to those in the fish keeping hobby.

This is the only pet store to trust if you have exotic pets. Good prices, knowledgeable and friendly staff, and quality products.I come here to get feeders for my chameleon, and they recently started selling hornworms as well which is pretty exciting. Everyone else in this city wants to charge double or triple for less quality and quantity. Any time I've had a question about care and upkeep the staff has always had lots of helpful advise and suggestions to offer. This is not a companion dog store--you're not going to find tutus for Fluffy--but you will find well-cared for and healthy small mammals, fish, reptiles, and essential supplies, with a staff that is acutely familiar with the products and needs of the animals that they provide for. I wouldn't shop anywhere else for my pet!

Very friendly staff. Plenty of fresh/salt water fish here. Limited selection on corals but I have seen some nice pieces here. My wife loves this place because of their selection of freshwater plants. They also have birds! The few times I have interacted with them, they are playful and nice. Seems like they could be hand-raised .

It is a good place to shop for pets & supplies. I come here to get most of my fish & reptile supplies. Prices are fair for the most part. Best thing to do is do some research of the animal that you want to get before buying anything, that way you are more prepared on what to get what your pet needs, they'll also give advice for the animal that you're purchasing.

Very good selection, shop people have been very nice and understanding. It's also a good way to observe the little fishy life and pass the time- the first time I came with a friend, ended up staring at fish for about an hour.I recommend it way more than a cooperation pet store!

Parking ✔Friendly Staff ✔Knowledgeable Staff ✔Pet Food ✔Pet Accessories ✔Pet Supplies ✔Big Selection of Aquatic Plants ✔Reasonable Prices ✔I have been a customer for over 15 years. The customer service is very one on one. Staff is very knowledgeable and helpful with your new or existing pet. I have found natural pet food alternatives for my pets. My daughter purchased a fancy rat at Sunset Pet & Supplies. With all the good mentoring we received and great products we were able to give the fancy rat a long life span. I have purchased fish and aquatic plants too from them. Have never had a bad experience. I recommend Sunset Pet & Supplies for all your pet needs!

Spent $170 within 4 days setting up my new aquarium. Wanted to support local business. One of the GloFish I purchased died by the next morning. (Less than 24 hours) I called and asked for a replacement for the single fish but was met with aggression. I decided it wasn’t worth the hassle and will take my business elsewhere.

Most helpful employees for planted fresh water with big selection of healthy tanks and healthy stock. Including some helpful algae eaters like neocardinia, snails, Amano and cardinia. Fantastic selection of freshwater plants and beautiful planted tanks as well. They also have marine, birds and reptiles but that's not what I came for.

They're very intuitive about aquarium information. They will guide you with everything you need for your aquarium. They'll let you know if your new fish will be compatible with your current fish. Great fish selection . 👌
