The housing standards for their animals are abominable and very very cruel! I study animal care and seeing this just broke my heart!

They have a good selection of pets supplies but also a lot of exotic animals in small cages.

I went with their shop yesterday, and I was really dazzled by a perfect and decent spot. Likewise, the staff working out there was cordial and enlightening. They even offer me a piece of guidance in taking care of my Maltese canine. I'll be back!

Absolutely disgusting. They have tiny little cages maybe 1 foot by 2 feet in dimension with 5 hamsters crammed in it. There was a gecko in a wired bird cage with seed and pellets for the food. There was a baby duck in a small travel size rodent cage with no water at all and wild bird seed for the food. Their housing standards are unacceptable and cruel. Not to mention they're left outside for everyone to view when it's 100+ outside or raining.

This is seriously the most upsetting pet store I have ever been too. Why are there so many iguanas per 20gallon tank with no heat side, hamsters in bedding that’s obviously been there for over a week, birds cramped up into small cages and macaws pulling their feathers out? Please don’t be fooled by the “great reviews” go check it out yourselves. Fine them @430 S Los Angeles st, Ca

Great small pet shop, mostly birds. I got my two wonderful cockatiels here, they're so well socialized and happy. Yes the store is small and crowded, it's downtown LA. The woman who runs the place is spends a lot of time caring for the birds and giving them attention. Also, for large birds they only sell rescues which is great (large birds have long lifespans and need a second owner usually)

Absolutely horrible conditions for these poor animals. In particular, the Red Macaw looks VERY unhealthy and is kept in a non-complaint cage for its size and requirements. A healthy Macaw should have bright, full feathers, and a white beak. This poor macaw has the exact opposite appearance which tells me they don't take care of it or feed it the right nutrition. I hope they get their permits revoked and this poor animal is brought to a better home

I have ordered Al's Pet Supplies for over 20 years and have never been disappointed. My dogs were and are active pets, running through wooded areas and jumping into water and swimming. The tags lasted for their lifetimes and the only time I had to replace them was when the "O" ring wore out and the tag was lost. I will always order Al's Pet Supplies I love them!

Yes, it is crowded. Some people posting here don't seem to realize that the "sick-looking" large macaws are rescues, who are being re-socialized. We got a pair of wonderful, well socialized cockatiels here. They both have a lot of personality and energy from growing up in a large group. Also, since we live in DTLA we are glad to have birds who are already immune to "city bird" diseases. We took out birds to the vet after purchase, and they basically said they needed more vitamins in their diet, and one had a slight nasal infection that went away quickly. I'm much happier with these wonderful, smart, affectionate birds than the sort of bird that sits alone, neglected, at the back of a Petsmart for the first 3 years of its life, shivering under a fluorescent light. I guess it comes down to a matter of opinion regarding "free ranging" your pets versus coddling them into extreme dependence...

This place is terrible. I just witnessed the owner scooping a little hamster out of a cardboard box and when I peeked inside, there was a mama hamster and about 7 tiny babies rolling around in the bottom of the otherwise empty box, which he closed and placed on the very hot sidewalk behind one of the parrot cages. I look at the small shop and can just imagine how they take all those cages and shove them inside that small space for the 16 hours a day they are not open for business- during business hours they are all assembled out on the sidewalk. I am worried about those animals, especially the big red Macaw that is there in a too small cage eating sunflower seeds and fruit loops- this bird needs to eat a specialized diet. His beak is a mess which tells me he is not getting proper nutrition. PLEASE AVOID THIS PLACE!!!

DO NOT GO HERE AND SUPPORT THEIR HORRIBLE BUSINESS!! I stopped by to look at their reptiles and they had several DEAD baby bearded dragons on display in an over crowded tank with no heat or UV... their birds and iguanas were over crowded and clearly sick as well.

Hey it's DTLA. What's not to marvel at? Lots of specials. Yeah there's some homeless there too but what was the old saying? Except for the Grace of God there go I! Lots to see do experience gawk at and whatever meets your fancy. I highly recommended it and I also hope you'll bring afew extra bucks clothes or whatever to help your fellow man! Oh yeah, the pet store is ok. Expensive birds there. Very beautiful.

We maintaining their pets here it's questionable not very hygienic or Morley ethical if you do decide to take one home make sure that it has all their shots and that it has enough food for the week having said that the prices are exceptional in the selections are great there's no parking and no restrooms as you may already found out.

Marcella (The Owner) is amazing! Great Person, Employee, Owner, and Friend. Always helpful and always competitive if not much less expensive than the competition (ie. PetSmart, Petco, etc.). Love you Guys!P.S. Al's just Expanded their location, more than doubling the store's size. Congrats on acquiring the adjacent location.

animals in horrible conditions, cramped in small cages. saw 2 red ear turtles in a bird cage with 3 inches of water with no filter, heater, or anything. they stuffed more than 10 beared dragons in a small 10-15 gallon tank, sad place to visit if you're an animal lover. you just want to rescue them all from this hell.

Animals look very poorly taken care of. Not enough space, all of the animals are shoved together. A huge red macaw is in a tiny cage and looks to be a victim of abuse.

Not a large selection by any means but gets the job done overall. This place usually has a bowl of water out for the pups as well which is nice and thoughtful on their part.

Didn't have a lot of pets. Mostly stuff for birds. So they have very limited pets and supplies. But staff was really friendly but not helpful when it came to asking questions about the animals, etc.
