Brought our chihuahua/yorkie that wasn't eating for a couple of days and was acting weak. The staff was very kind and helpful. The doctor gave us our options with no pressure and we committed how much we could afford. We didn't do the whole recommendation and luckily everything they did was enough to turn the symptoms around. It took a couple of days to recovery but eventually she was fine and is not doing great. Thank you for being there for our family member.

Had to take an older cat (mine but not mine long story) who was hurt in today. He had to be put down today, I knew before going. Amanda who took my call over the phone was great and very nice. When I checked in staff was again nice. Vet tech and vet were both nice as well. It felt like I was there for hours but was in and out in 45 minutes which was great. If I lived closer would for sure make this our regular vets office. Was expensive but just like every where else for emergency treatment without and appointment. They were actually a little less than two closer offices and worth the drive.

I recently took my 19 year old cat Panther here for an emergency visit. He hadn't been eating for a week and was suffering from what seemed to be an upper respiratory infection. I made the decision to euthanize him because I could tell he was suffering and the doctor said he most likely was experiencing kidney failure. The euthanasia was a hard experience to go through especially because I've had this cat since I was 11 years old. I will say the doctor was very caring and made me feel like I was in good hands. I had received a letter from them expressing their condolences. One thing I'm not very happy about though is that they offer to take a paw print as a momentum and I specifically asked them to use one of my cat's front paws since he was polydactl so he has two extra toe beans. They reassured me that they'd make a note and even mentioned it to me when I came to pick up the print. Unfortunately, the print wasn't his front paw because it didn't have the polydactl print. It may seem trivial that I'm upset, but I always remembered my cat for that distinction in his two front paws and that they disregarded my wishes even though the note was clearly there in my file. And when I called in to let them know what happened about the print, the front office just told me they'd leave a note in my file. I'm not sure if I'd recommend this place to anyone after this because this mistake just made me feel like they really don't care.

Brought my yellow lab in earlier this year for an emergency at the recommendation of my regular vet. It was one of the scariest/heartbreaking things I’ve ever had to deal with, but the staff seriously went above and beyond for my dog. They were very upfront about cost, likelihood of her survival, etc. She ended up being there for almost 2 weeks and it wasn’t cheap, but she has since made a full recovery and I’m forever grateful!

I had to take my 15 yr old mini doxie, Mandi in yesterday on an emergency basis. Although I had never been there before, the staff and vet were all extremely kind and welcoming. The vet laid out all our options. We ultimately decided it was time to let her go and suffer no more. Mandi and I were treated with so much compassion. It made this incredibly horrible situation just a bit better. I can't thank them enough and can't wait to pick Mandi back up in a few weeks and have her ashes here with us forever

This review is to tell you just how very lucky and blessed we were to be referred to Dr. Tessa Phillips, and how blessed your community is to have her. Although I am saddened to find she has left Florida, I am grateful for the extended life she has afforded our precious Peanut. We were referred for BOAS for our precious boy, at the time only two years young. During Dr. Phillips preoperative exam, Peanut was found to be over 85% occluded, requiring a temporary tracheostomy to even manage any post operative chance of survival. Sadly, she told us that most people would prefer she stop at this stage and pick their babies up. We put our faith in her, and we're so glad we did! Peanut's surgery was in April of this year, and he came home with his temp tracheostomy and healed without incident! I couldn't wait to hug Dr. Phillips, through tears, at our follow up appointment. Peanut celebrated his third birthday on September first, something that would most likely not have come to pass if it weren't for Dr. Phillip's expert care!!! I'm so glad she was in Florida when we needed her, and I'm truly envious of VCA and California for having her there!!

If it were possible I would give this place a negative rating. On Thanksgiving we had a medical emergency with our kitty. I called this place and explained what was happening and I asked if we could bring her in. Their response was to tell me it was $380 just to walk in the door. The tech also said it was not a true emergency and to call back and make a regular appointment. Why are there so few 24 hour emergency vets in a city the size of Sacramento?? We took the advice of the tech and decided to call in the morning, that was a huge mistake, unfortunately our beautiful kitty was unresponsive in the morning and passed in our arms. While I realize emergencies don’t always have a happy outcome, having a so called expert tell us it was not a true emergency and could wait until the next day made me feel like I was a stupid overreacting pet parent who ignored my gut feeling. Since when did the veterinary industry stop caring about helping an animal in need and become only concerned with profit?? Instead of asking any questions or showing any concern, this tech gave us a dollar amount that was required just to be seen. While I will take some responsibility for not trusting my gut and insisting to be seen, I am beyond disappointed and devastated at the triage assessment of our beloved beautiful angel. I would not even take a sick caterpillar to this place. I highly suggest that if you love your fur child avoid this place at all costs

We went in there as an emergency because our dog had not eaten for 3 days. We thought he had a blockage. They wanted to keep him overnight and run tests. They called us in the middle of the night and said he did not have a blockage and that he had pancreatic cancer and wouldn't live longer than a month if we didn't pay 8k for a surgery. They said with the surgery he would only get another year of life. We were devastated and decided to go pick him up early and bring him home. We had prepaid for 24 hours worth of care (3k). He was only there for about 15. So we expected to receive some money back. Instead they sent us an additional bill in the mail for another $500. We took our dog into our regular vet the next day. He was blocked up! He had no cancer at all. Dr gave him some meds to help him go to the bathroom and he's been fine ever since! I'm so angry at Loomis and how they so coldly told us he had cancer and would die. Guilt tripped us for not paying 8k for a surgery and still charged us over 3 k for less than 24 hours and to be completely wrong in their findings. We were faced with the decision to put him down and I'm so glad we didn't listen and got another opinion!

I have had nothing but good experiences here. My cat Leia likes to eat and she ended up eating one of my brothers toys. She was In really bad shape when I brought her in. 2 days earlier I brought her to a different vet and they told me she was just overweight and I needed to give her different food ($1000 for that diagnosis). When I brought her here, they saved her life. I am so glad I brought her here, the doctors were phenomenal. I got a call everyday and they gave me a prognosis in less than 24 hours unlike the other place. She ended up needing surgery and again, they saved her.I didn’t have a lot of money to spend on Leia, but the doctors told me not to worry about that and I ended up getting help with some of the doctors, I will be eternally grateful for VCA Loomis Basin and the Junebug Foundation. I hope to someday return the favor by donating to their cause as well. If you can, please continue to donate so they can help more animals like my Leia.Thank you VCA, you’ve made this cat mom very happy ❤️

My GSD Reece had a very painful ear infection. Brought him through the Emergency and waited just a few minutes before he was assessed. He got to play with Casey (his favorite) while waiting for the exam which was distracting and a huge help. Dr. Lo and staff had him feeling better quickly. No place else I would take my dogs, always 100% satisfied.

Awesome how they apparently ask for 100% up front for treatment for my family's cat. Ever heard of payment plans? Luckily, I was able to pull $8000 like a rabbit out of a hat, but what would've happened if I couldn't have done that? Run around desperately looking for a place that would be sensible and do some kind of payment plan/bill negotiation with a poor cat in distress? GFY. My mom told me after talking with the people there that it's a common thing with vets, and looking it up it was shockingly true. That really surprised me. However, there has to be some sort of contingency plan for giant bills that you obviously can't expect people to pay up front. Especially at 2am in an emergent situation. By sheer luck I was able to help out with the exact bill amount. I still question the bill amount and potential quality of care, so I will assist my family with exploring other options in the event of another emergency. I'm sure there are much better places than this.

Today I had to send my sweet boy to heaven. The staff at Loomis Basin were kind and compassionate. They made an awful experience bearable. I am so grateful for their sensitivity on a really sad day.

If I could leave a negative, I would. My cat that was 21 years old was found by a neighbor and taken to this place. The neighbor had only left the cat there under the pretence that they'd do no harm, or she'd take him home and wait for the owners. They agreed. We got there within two hours of finding out a neighbor had dropped him off. He was gone. His body-cold.I doubt they waited 15 minutes.Sure, he was an old cat. Sure, he was stiff in the morning. But he ate like a king, jumped onto chairs and counter tops and was always moving about, cuddling up to people and enjoying his life.I was 12 when I got this cat and now I'm in my mid 30s.They made an awful mistake. They took him before his time.I truly hope that our cries of pain now echo through the person's soul that made this choice and took him from us. From now until the end of time.I get that he was old, but we don't euthanize beautiful creatures that are friendly, walking, eating, drinking, cuddling and enjoying their life. We've been coming here for nearly 30 years. And this is how the relationship ends. This one truly hurt.

Approximately 2 years ago VCA saved my very sick Einstein kitty’s life…. He had a very rare condition and they gave me another year and a half with this exceptional animal. The intensity of care and kindness shown to my family, who visited daily, was over the top. I thank them for all the great medical care offered to my kitty. Thank you for your service to all the animals in need of help!

I called twice to let them know that I was bringing in my senior pup with bloody diarrhea and that she's been to her regular vet 4 times in the past month and that we needed help ASAP. I brought in my pup in her stroller and waited and never got checked in. I took my daughter and pup outside to wait, and came back in again to check in. Once again no one ever bothered to check me in. I have been here previously a month ago and same situation stand and wait for nothing! Very poor customer service

I brought my cat in for a possible blockage. For male cats it can be an emergency situation so I couldn’t wait for when my vet could get me in to see him. At Loomis Basin I was quite surprised when they came into the waiting room and announced to me and others in the room that my cat was a girl not a boy so it had to be a UTI. It was embarrassing to think I didn’t know the sec of my cat. It was possible I was the second owner and had taken it at face value that the cat was a male and had been neutered. The bill was about $500 for Loomis Basin to do blood work and cultures and give me amoxicillin (an antibiotic) which worked for about two days. In the meantime I made an appointment to have “her” now spayed at my vet. When I brought her in I explained the situation to my vet. She took the time to evaluate the genital area (thank goodness) before the surgery only to discover my cat was a boy. I can’t imagine if someone hadn’t taken the time to figure this out and operated on him only to find that he was in fact a boy. It really made me angry with Loomis Basin to say something to me that clearly they didn’t spend much time checking on. In the end I told my vet that “he” was still having issues with hisbladder. They took the time to provide me with a lot of background info for treatment. The condition is a life condition that requires special food and keeping his anxiety down.

Beware I can share from years of experience at this establishment that it's not a place you take your beloved pets to. I used to have confidence in this place. We always saw Marcia Smith who retired. Now two internist here both Dr Mazzei and Dr West are only out for how much money they can collect. Dr M bedside manner is cold, rude, and demeaning. All in writing too via email. He refused to treat my dog for his IBD flair up unless I scoped him for $5K. I switched to Dr W who didn't feel a need to scope and provided other options. Seemed good. But then even though my dog was stable she wanted recheck after recheck. Every 3 months. Agreed to phone consult (we live 45 min away) she charged me recheck fees just to answer occasional question or to adjust a med or to fill a script (my dog would have small mini flair up of ibd nothing requiring an exam). Dr Smith never ever did this. She saw him once a year unless he was critical AND we consulted by phone or email on occasion and there was no recheck charge for that ever.More importantly to share the recheck fee for internal med is $71. Suddenly on Dec 6 for our 15 min phone call I was sent a bill for $105. I am told it's at the vets discretion to charge whatever they want! To telling me we have two recheck fees one for short visit one for in person or long visit. Mine was a short visit 15 min phone call my dog wasn't even present! This doesn't seem legal. Or ethical business practice.I removed my dog from going here.

My family has taken our pet Augustus here for years and when Marcia Smith left the other internal specialist available are no good. Dr Mazzei is a very mean vet who refused to treat our dog for ongoing ibd flairup if we didnt scope him. He was demeaning and arogant. Switched to Dr West and all she wants to do is run through your wallet with her rechecks every 3 months just to see how Augustus is doing and adjust any med or call in a script to pharmacy. To top that off that standard recheck fee of $71 somehow recently on Dec 6 jumped to $105. My mom was told its up to the vets discresion to charge what they want. For a 15 min call on the phone. I told my mom I dont want her taking my dog Savannah there who needs critical internal consult. Ya we waited 2 weeks for this and they are pulling this kind of crooked business practice. They even tried to place blame on my mom saying how she isnt happy with the place and isnt friendly to some staff. Gas lighting her. What kind of place is this? We took our pets out of here.

Used to be good, a decade ago. Put down a 22 year old cat two hours after he was dropped off. He wasn’t a stray and by the time the family found out (two hours later) the baby had already been put down. He was not sick or hurt, just an old man. Horrible vet and has a long list of stories just like this one.

I wish my experience with this hospital didn't end the way it did. My dog Abby was given such good care by Oncology (for her cancer) and Emergency (for her kidney disease). Sadly, when it came time for us to let her go, due to extreme advancement of kidney disease, we had a horrible experience with this hospital. I called about scheduling euthanasia and also having a punch biopsy collected post mortem. The punch biopsy would be used to preserve Abby's DNA, and I had a kit with instructions. Before scheduling, the receptionist assured me that she spoke with the Medical Director Peter Vellutini and that he had researched the company and knew what the DNA collection via punch biopsy entailed. So, I scheduled the euthanasia, punch biopsy, and private cremation for Saturday 1/6/24. I was specifically told that the medical director would be there to do these services at the appt. However, I arrived for my appt and no one knew what I needed even though they collected payment for three things (euthansaisa, cremation, and punch biopsy). The vet on duty was very empathetic, but ultimately, we were refused service because she wasn't comfortable taking a punch biopsy for the purposes of DNA collection! We went home broken hearted, confused, and trying to come to grips with how this could have happened. I'm shocked at the disorganization that occurred and even more shocked that I was subjected to such elevated levels of stress and disappointment on a day that was already so hard. As I said, I wish my experience with this VCA had not ended so badly.

Super helpful staff!! Came here on Christmas Day with our dog, even though they were unable to see him due to the high volume of patients, they provided plenty of other options and even helped call around to get him seen. We really appreciated the concern and extra help to get our boy in asap.

The main complaints people have are the wait times. If you remember that this is an emergency vet and critically injured pets take priority you will understand the wait time more. I have been both a non emergency, and emergency customer here. I am always impressed with the level of knowledge the staff has. While I may not schedule an appointment for shots here, I would recommend them for anyone who has a pet that is sick or injured. They have saved my dog twice now, the last one she was hospitalized for a week and had several blood transfusions done. The techs even took funny photos of her to show me. My dog is a nightmare to hospitalize (severe kennel anxiety and screams bloody murder and chews on the bars so she gets sedated) She is 13 years old and still crazy as can be. The staff is amazing, their combined knowledge is the best I've found (comparable to UC Davis) and I cannot recommend them enough. You will wait, and they aren't cheap. But you do get what you pay for.

Sally (semi-feral cat) had not been treated by a "Vet" in seven years. I took her in because she may have eaten a piece of rubber band and for a general check-up. Loomis Basin gave me a very quick appointment, complete check-up, blood work, and vaccines. The treatment time was fast and the pricing was very acceptable for what was done. I received both a verbal and email follow-up informing me of the blood test results. I am a very satisfied client of Loomis Basin Veterinary Clinic and Sally and I will see them again next year.

We brought our dog, Fritzie, here as he was battling a severe form of pneumonia that the first round of antibiotics didn't help. This facility had an oxygen cage, which is what he needed. He stayed 4 nights and the vet was amazing and proactively called with updates twice daily. Great service! And nice that we didn't have to wait on hold trying to find out what is going on.Anyway, they found some antibiotics that worked, and he's now well on his way to being fully recovered! We are so grateful. Thank you!

This place was a life saver! My dog had to have surgery a TPLO. My first call was redirected to Martie, what a wonderful woman and so calming. She answered all my question and she calmed me down. After talking to her and getting an appointment with in 2 days, I knew I was in the best care and so was my dog Max's. Everyone we came in contact with was spectacular, friendly, caring and happy to meet Max's. My dog is 115 pounds and a Staffordshire Terrier and Lab. He loved everyone he meet. The surgery went great and the surgeon was amazing. I have received calls already checking on Max's. They also sent an e-mail stateing, we were going to getting a refund. Not a little refund but hundreds of dollars, who does that these days? Very honest! Loomis Basin Veterinary is the best and I would give it 10 stars if I could! I want to thank everyone that helped me and Max's 💖

I wanted to just thank Loomis Basin Veterinary for how they treated us when we had to make the most heartbreaking decision to send our sweet Lucy cat to kitty heaven. They treated us like we were their family and the time and care they gave us was wonderful. Dr. HK (I don't want to post their name without consent) sent us the most beautiful sympathy card. She was phenomenal in the care she gave Lucy and our family. I can't recommend them enough. When we got our cats remains, not only was it done in such a classy way but they sent us a foot print of our sweet girl. It was such a beautiful gesture. I don't understand the negative reviews but all I can say is our experience was lovely.

There’s a pattern here, Read the most recent reviews. Maybe this establishment should care less about taking as much money as they can and more about helping. Not a $7K bill for a cat with a UTI
