We had an awesome family snow trip. Location was perfect, plenty of snow to play in right in front of the rooms. Loved the all day ice skating and the rooms were very roomy. My only critiques would be, the beds were a little too firm for my liking. But some people love firm beds. And maybe a microwave for the rooms. Or a little on site store/deli might me nice. So people don't have to drive down so the closest market. And maybe turn the outside lights on in front of the motel so kids/people could play at night if they wanted too. These are just suggestions but our trip was still amazing! On a side note. I lost my wallet. With all of our travel cash in it (a lot) and someone turned it in to the ice rink. With all the money still in it. I wish I could have thanked them.

Overall, loved staying here! Really great prices to be so close to Dodge ridge and tucked away in the mountains. The rooms were nice enough - clean, warm and had everything we needed. Also really great for bringing our dogs!We were staying 4 of us in a cabin and when our pull out sofa didn’t work, they gave us a secondroom for free! My one complaint is that the second room was in the motel and it was very loud. Walls are thin and we had some very loud upstairs neighbors. The cabins were much quieter though and not much more to stay in - so I recommend getting a cabin if you can! I would definitely come back and recommend for the value and location!

Came here for my dads wedding a few weeks ago and it was absolutely gorgeous here. All the staff was very helpful. The regular rooms were very spacious I loved it. The shower was a bit on the tiny side but amazing water pressure. The skating rink was perfect for the reception, plenty of room. Thank you. I can't wait to come back.

Was leaving Yosemite heading for work in Oakland on the 20th. Needing a inexpensive place to stay to recover from a week of hiking in Yosemite. Ending with the upper falls! Just happened upon this gem hidden away in Long Barn CA.. Stayed in the hotel. Room was clean, great water pressure, hot water. Then I found out it was under new management. Little over a year ago these guys started renovations. Anyone who had a breath involved my hats off to you! Thirty years on the road, hotels east to west, north to south. Can't count the years it's been since I've run across a room this nice for the price. Great place for overnight and can only imagine what it would be like to spend time here just for a cozy get away with family and friends... Awesome job to new management!!! Will be back...

We stayed at the Long Barn for the weekend of 01/20-01/22, 2023. We stayed at the Superior Chalet L. Here are some Pros and Cons:Pros:1. Location: 2 hrs drive from East Bay, so easier accessible than Tahoe. A really beautiful trail nearby along the river, wasn’t cleared from snow, but due to multiple people walking there was kinda walkable. Dodge Ridge and Leland Snow park are within 20-30 mins (parking is tricky if don’t come early).2. Staff is friendly.3. Cabin had all the necessary things, like linens, blankets, kitchen staff, toiletries, towels, etc.4. Cabin was nice and cozy.5. It’s pet friendly, so we could bring our furry family member with us. Additional $20/night though.6. It’s just beautiful in winter with all the snow we had!7. The skating rink is cute and fun!Cons:1. There’s what smells like a gas leak from the stove, it’s not very old, but needs to be replaced probably. We all got headaches from it!2. Blankets are not thick enough for winter, and have holes in them, so we had to run the heaters all night, which made it really stuffy in the cabin and gave us even more headaches.3. The heater/fireplace was pre-set for 80+, and we couldn’t figure out how to change that. I mean we could change the temp, and we did. But it would go back to heating it up to 80+ during the night, even though the last setting we did was 72. We didn’t realize it was doing that until the second night as everyone thought somebody else changed it to be so high:) Smth for you to look into.4. Overall, it’s not very clean, stained sheets/pillows/holes in blankets.Kitchen appliances are VERY dirty, coffee maker had mold in it, toaster was disgusting, fridge stinks. That’s smth that can easily be improved, and thus will improve overall experience. It’s not “an affordable” stay at $550 for two nights in a tiny cabin with two beds/sleeper sofa (btw, the mattress on which is so dirty!). But we would stay there again if the above issues are fixed!

We went for the ice skating and we weren’t sure what to expect but we absolutely loved the place! My kids (10, 8 and 6) have never ice skated, so they were a little nervous. There are a bunch of little support walkers (they call them skate helpers) for newbies so they can stand up and get around, which made a huge difference for the kiddos. There was also hot cocoa for sale. Just the right amount of other families also having fun. Will definitely go back!

We wanted to leave the night we arrived. We knew it was not going to be a fancy place and we were ok with that, but we did not expect the noise from the people above us to be so loud. Lasted until 11pm. The people that manage the place seem nice and with good intentions but the place itself needs to be gutted and rebuilt because the noise from the floor/ceiling above us was unbearable. The room looked bright even at night because they don't use curtains just blinds. I will have to say the water pressure in the shower is great! Hence the 1 star I gave. I should have payed $100 more to stay in one of their cabins even if the cabins left didn't have the beds we needed and had to sleep on the floor. Lesson learned. I will not stay in the hotel part of this place ever if we can help it. Unfortunately, because we booked late this was our only option closest to our destination. For 2 nights at almost $400 we would have liked to at least get a restful sleep. Not a good experience at all.

Did exactly what it was supposed to do. Clean rooms, great location near Dodge Ridge and very inexpensive. Can’t find a decent room for a price like this anywhere else in the US. If you stay here make sure to stop at Alicia’s Sugar Shack.Rooms: Simple, comfortable, cleanNearby activities: Dodge Ridge Ski Resort, Alicia’s Sugar Shack

Fist time here and apparently there are NEW owners. They were very warm , and welcoming. That's a pro. Apon arrival. I noticed the floor had some damp spots that stayed damp throughout the stay. Location is nice and away from the highway. I see some say it's noisy because of thin walls.. I can see that. It's so quiet noises would be amplified. Luckily there was only 2-3, other guests and it was quite. Room was overall not to bad IMO. Two beds, two separate doors to enter UNLESS your on the top. No microwave which is odd. This is for the hotel NOT the actual cabins. Location is far from food, stores, ect. TV worked, WiFi worked, a bit shabby. Bugs seemed to get in quite easily. Nice big lawn for dogs. Overall I give a 7.

Avoid at all costs. Cancellation fee bites like a king cobra. My situation is I have to modify the reservation dates, Front desk actually suggested and happily cancelled my reservation without warning of any cancellation fees even I just tried to modify the dates and re-do the reservation. Then of course nobody answers your phone calls ever again.

We stayed in cabin L. It was a nice cabin with a separate living and sleeping area. The kitchen was mostly clean. There was a gas fireplace and gas grill outside. Bedding and towels were clean. The area was quiet. The person who checked us in was also nice. The wifi wasn't great so my kids were disappointed.

It was decent for a winter two-night stay. The staff was very friendly. Most of our lodge neighbors were smoking pot so we usually tried to open the window between their high times. The only thing that irked us was that we reserved a 2 twin, 1 queen room where there was to be a loft for the kids (and for our privacy). We didn't get it when we showed up as they gave it to another family. If it wasn't for that, I'd give this place 3.5-4 stars. The ice rink and snow play was fun! Be sure to visit Mia's.

My cousin had his wedding here and what a cute spot to have it! Friendly staff and the grounds are well kept. Clean pool area too. It’s a nice place to bring your family and get away. The rooms can use some up dating but it’s a lodge let’s be real! :)

An amazing historic ice-skating rink! I built in the 1960s this ice-skating rink has been providing family fun for generations. It’s not the biggest ice-skating rink but a great place for kids to have fun. Lots of room for parents to Watch their kids or skate with them. The staff is very friendly and skating is affordable. The resort has about 20 hotel rooms at about a dozen or more cabins. There’s a swimming pool in the summer and it’s really close to the ski resort in the winter. This is a place to make long lasting memories

This place is awesome! The people that live and work here are most friendly and helpful. The maintenance on the property is superior and nice to experience. As a former advanced ice skater, I really enjoyed the seasonal ice rink. The ice was well groomed, and not overcrowded at the times I was lucky enough to be present during skating season. I have also experienced the facility during the springtime. It is not very crowded then, but the property is so well maintained that it is a pleasure to take a walk on the grounds, or to hike the surrounding areas to admire the nearby cabins and the forest. I plan to visit again this summer. Never been to Pinecrest before, but I have heard that it is a nice place to take a kayak. The cabins are my favorite, but the motel is also well appointed with comfortable beds, and a very clean environment. Check it out! Hope to see you there...

Went ice skating today and the kids loved it! The lady working the counter was awesome and was very prompt at helping us. Even when more customers came in, she was very quick to help everyone (kudos to her for being able to multi task). They also made sure to follow covid guidelines. Very pleased with our experience and can’t wait to go back! Highly recommend this ice skating rink to everyone 🙂

Very friendly staff, love the family atmosphere in the lodge and skating rink. Room was spacious and mostly clean, although the bathroom/shower could certainly use a deep clean. At some point, lodge owners will need to renovate as it is becoming run-down and outdated. But such is life in a small mountain town! Don't forget your hair dryer.

I have been to this lodge twice and have enjoyed my stay both times. The staff is wonderful and extremely efficient as they go out of their way to accommodate you. Rooms are clean but rustic so don't expect anything different. I stayed one time during a snow storm and had to turn off the heater several times as it worked great. The grounds are beautiful with no trash anywhere. The swimming pool is great, especially when you are floating on your back and looking up at the huge trees in the forest. You are able to BBQ, play horseshoes, volleyball (all provided) or bring what you need as they have a large beautiful grass area. I brought my dog for an extra $25.00 per stay. This area has plenty of fishing, hiking, and a lake with a nice beach nearby. They have a mid week special of $59.95, which is great when you are on a budget. I always look forward to staying here every year and would do it more often if it wasn't 5 hours away from me.
