Went there today around 10 to find some books for my cousin. I always enjoyed going in there. At first I walked in and said hello. The girl working at the counter replied saying hello. Asked if I needed help looking for and told me where the books were. I ran into Tom. He seemed agitated, So I left him be. Before I could grab the books he said. You know, It's easter and it'd be nice to go home on a early day. I said, Oh that's understand and left. Even the smell of cat urine and feces drove me out of that store. Health violation for sure.

Discovered Tom's used bookstore today. What a wonderful find! I am from the Bay Area where darn near every neighborhood has its own used bookstore. Employees were super helpful and the cats delightful. Great to find this charming shop in Lodi.

This is a nice bookstore, but it smells so much like urine, that,paired with a general feeling of uncleanness and disorganization makes you want to visit a different shop. If they can clean up and organize it, it would be a great little shop. The cats are super sweet and cute, though.

the old man was scaring me. seriously. i was checking out some books and he randomly came up to me, stood behind me and stared. I acted like I was reading through a book. a few seconds later, he walked away. and then I exited the store quickly. the whole store, including the owner, over all gave me bad vibes. it was quiet in a way that screamed danger. other than that, the store also smelled disgusting.

This bookstore is probably one of my favorites. Stopped by for a few minutes only explored like a quarter of the place. It’s great, I am planning on going back. This is a good place to find good vintage, collection or just random books. They are priced very good. The books are organized very good. They have a huge plant/gardening selection, Which I was delighted by. They have kitties walking around, super cute and friendly. One of my favorite bookstores for sure!

Looks small on the outside, but surprisingly large inside. Decent selection and everything looks haphazardly sorted but reminds me of bookstore Belle visits in "Beauty and the Beast." They have cats that will cozy up to you while browsing.

Tom's Book Store is a little gem in a great big world! It looks chaotic, but he knows where your book/subject is. The staff are always kind and helpful. The prices are unbeatable. The cats are a bonus! We always buy at least 1 book because we love to support our local businesses! Don't miss out on this hidden treasure tucked away on an unsuspecting street.See you all soon!

I like this place a lot. There are a lot of books and some adorable cats. I never go in looking for anything in particular but I always end up leaving with something. You can't beat the prices and you may find an older treasure in those shelves. I absolutely recommend this place.

A nice gentleman has that peculiar librarian disposition. Guessing over a thousand books maybe more you have to keep pressing for the book you really want. I didn't find mine but he had equivalent books. The second picture is one that I'd like him to get into stock it is a valuable resource. If you're not patient a good idea just to search it for yourself but be ready to be there awhile he does lead you right where you need to go.

If you like books, cats, or both, this is the place to be. Incredible selection, four friendly kitties to find (or who will find you) while you're browsing, and really good prices. This was worth the drive to visit and I'll go back again soon.

First thing you notice about this once welcoming bookstore is how you enter the wrong way, and then the first thing you see and smell is cats on the counter and the unpleasant odor of cat piss. The cat dander and cat stench is on everything including your clothes. If your allergic to such things, you know what to not do. Why the owner has funky pets in the store is a mystery. But all you hoarders would probably like it. Never going to take guests from the East coast here again - ever! 👃😩

I've never been here, but have read an article about an incident at the shop. The owner did not allow for a service dog handler to enter, because the owner had six cats at the shop. The owner claimed the cats would start "marking". The service dog was not aggressive or disturbing the cats in any way. The owner is very discriminatory and did not care when he was made aware that he was breaking the American with Disabilities Act, which is federal law. He also states that the handler is "hardly disabled". Never come here. Don't support such an ignorant, discriminatory, and disrespectful person like the owner. If only I could give 0 stars...If you don't want your cats "marking" because a service dog handler brings in their service dog, it's your problem for having cats there. Don't discriminate for your own problems. It's not the service dog or her handler's fault or problem. It's your problem!

I have never been in a better used bookstore. It is packed full of choices. It is so organized that it is not difficult to find what you are looking for. If you need help, the owner and the store clerk are more than happy to help. It was truly magical to shop here. They have 4 store cats that are absolutely precious. I had to force myself to leave. I can't wait to go back.

I used to love going in and loving on the cats, Tom would order me the books I wanted online and I’d pick them up. I even wanted to work there at a point. But if I got the service dog I need I wouldn’t be allowed in? It breaks my heart that someone would be that way to people who severely need service dogs.

If you love books and cats, you must stop in. Best place in Lodi to get a new or used book. I love this store! There are 4 beautiful cats running around the store ready to snuggle. Amazing place! I highly recommend this store! Right across the street from the movie theater.

Lots of used and new books available, and the owner was very helpful. If you have cat allergies just note there are a few roaming around keeping an eye on the customers ;)

I wouldn’t recommend, it says cheap used books but in no way are they cheap he charges you for the back price of the book and takes away like 5% which would be like $1 might as well go to target or Walmart they are cheaper there, He also declines service to people who have service dogs because of his cats. Ridiculous

This is hands down the best bookstore I’ve ever been to. The atmosphere, kind and chatty man at the front desk, endless (incredibly cheap) books, the cats !!!!! I truly could go on and on. I absolutely love bookstores and this is undoubtedly my favorite. The only downside is my husband and I don’t live in Lodi, so we can’t go whenever we want!

A wonderful place to get your books. If they don't have it they can order it for you and most new books are around 15% off. And the best part is the friendly cats, make sure you give them a pet while you are there.

I have a service dog but I don't look like I need it. If someone told me I couldn't go in their store with him I would definitely sue them. That is so disrespectful. You can't tell what someone's disability is just by looking at them. And what gives him the right to judge. Take your cats home if you can't control them. I love cats but come on!

You stated you denied a service animal because of your cats "marking" all over the store that begs the question if they are fixed?. I understand you may of been scared the dog would attack your kitties but a service animal is trained to ignore other animals. How embarrassed you made that person feel is absolutely terrible.

The cutest book store with the sweetest own, if your allergic to cats I suggest not going, as this place is crawling with the cuddliest and friendliest felines in Lodi :) and the books are great prices!

What can I say? My experiences here have been hit and miss. Some days the owner attempts to strike up a conversation or welcome me to the store, and other times he is non talkative. Also make sure not to disturb his new books or you may be followed around the store. Being able to pet the cats who wander the bookstore is a huge plus for my little one and a huge reason why we return every so often. Nice selection of books but pricing is very high compared to other used book stores.

This place is marvelous, wondrous, amazing, and sublime! The owner was friendly and helpful. The bookstore has many genres of books such as children’s, romance, self-help, mysteries, cooking, westerns, true crime, fiction, poetry, and much more. Also had cassette tapes, records, cds, etc. The cats were absolutely adorable! It is right across the street from the movie theater, so if you get a chance to check this place out, it will be well worth your time.

Books, Vinyl, Cassette tapes, VHS, Cool staff, CATS! Great place to just visit let alone spend very little to get so much in return. The cats are the friendly mascot of the best book store this side of the Mississippi. I like books. I will spend hours here finding both new and familiar content. Students and Scholars should visit here.

Huge shop with many genres. Somewhat disorganized, but perhaps due to expansion through the years. The cats are friendly. Prices are ok, but if I spend that much I'd prefer to go to the Friends of the Library (Stockton or Lodi) to ensure the most good for the money. That said, the selection is better here; the owner is eccentric, but very nice.
