We love the inn at schoolhouse creek!! The rooms are so cozy, charming, each unique, spacious with options for families, couples and dog friendly. The innkeepers are exceptional and quick to respond to service needs. Carrie is like family at the front desk and Michael was so helpful as well. Thank you so much as always for a wonderful visit. We will always look forward to seeing you again same time next year!!!!Love ya all,The Brown, Helbig, Collins families

Thyme cottage was the perfect place for our family. The cottage is accessible via ramp and the accessible shower was very easy to use. We didn't have our service dog with us but noted that there was a small fenced in back yard attached to the cottage where we could have safely let her out. The murphey bed was extremely comfortable and so much nicer than a sofabed. The staff were all kind and helpful. We did not hear any noise from the highway at night. Would definitely stay here again.

Inn keepers are friendly and accommodating. Stayed here numerous times and always happy. Would really like to see the hot tub up and running again. But I’ll be back regardless.Rooms: Room was large enough for two beds, two people and two dogs. Always clean despite being dog friendly. My only complaint would be that the weight of the comforters are too heavy for me (not a weighted blanket fan).

I loved the Garden Cottage at the Inn at Schoolhouse creek. The cottage is charming and very private. It was the perfect spot for a solo trip to Mendocino. My dog really enjoyed the private patio area and we were right next to the pet meadow where dogs can run around. The room was super cozy with high ceilings, a comfortable bed, and huge bathtub. Check in and check out was super smooth and the staff are very friendly. The inn is only a 5 minute drive to the Mendocino village with great restaurants and shopping! Mendocino is beautiful and there is a lot to explore. Highly recommend staying here!

I rented the Rose Cottage for 3 nights. The ad said this cottage can accommodate 4 people - (no.) I was traveling with a with a friend and a small dog I wanted a separate bedroom with a pull out bed (in lieu of another bedroom) and kitchen. This seemed to fit the bill.To get to the point;Kitchen - rate a 4, it had what I needed,Furniture - rate a 2 old and uncomfortable.Pull out 'bed' - rate a zero/1. Horrible and when it was pulled out it blocked the room.Regular bed - 4Bathroom - 4Storage - practically non-existent. One small armoire, impossible for more than 1 person to store their luggage and clothes, I mean nothing, no hooks, cupboards, cabinets, nothing! So everything is stacked against the walls. The door to the deck hardly opened and the outdoor table junk.Overall this property and this cottage at best would be kindly described as quirky, shabby chic. However it is worn, outdated and needs attention. So much potential here but it seems the owner only maintains the bare necessities. The overall outdoor area was clean and okay, there was no spa (closed for some reason) , there was no hot tub open and looking at it, I would not have used it if it was available. My stay was ok, but it was not a comfortable cottage IMHO. Close to Mendocino, you can walk around the property but can't walk to the ocean (to my understanding) as very busy Hwy 1 is a few feet away. I would not stay here again unless they do some renovating. The office people were very nice.

We stayed in the garden cottage and it was such a nice cozy space, perfect for a weekend trip. The garden definitely seemed like the most secluded option, most others share walls. Staff was very friendly, everything was clean, and the patio was a perfect little space for morning coffee or wine. The curtains are sheer so tough to get privacy if you want it. But overall would definitely come back!

We were really looking forward to staying at the Inn at Schoolhouse Creek after seeing nice photos online and reading through some positive reviews. However, we were disappointed with the accommodations provided. Unfortunately, we did not enjoy our stay due to the lack of cleanliness of the cottage we stayed in. We did not discover this until after check-in hours and were forced to purchase cleaning supplies from the Harvest Market at Mendosa's and clean the bathroom and tub ourselves. The bedding also had several stains, which resulted in us just bringing in our own blankets. We sucked it up and made do, but after sharing this feedback on our way out, it did not seem like it was taken seriously. We do not plan to stay here again despite the convenient location.

Really cute room with great view. Beautiful grounds. Fun swing in the back of the property between two trees. Loved the personal note and wine. The water pressure was basically a drizzle. My husband washed his hair and could barely get all the shampoo out. Therefore, I could not wash my hair as it is longer. We felt we couldn’t get clean with such low water pressure and after trying to rinse the soap off the water went cold. The pilot light was out on our gas heater and the little heater in the room did not work. We were very cold that morning. They did give us a new heater and turned on the pilot light for the next morning. There was supposed to be a telescope in our room as advertised online. There was a lot of Cobwebs on the ceiling and corners of the room. The small table legs were broken. The ants were there in full force and no food was around. We had a nice visit, but won’t be back unless the water pressure has greatly increased.

Stayed in the Buckhorn Cove Room ❤️ . Love this Inn, Will for sure come back and try a few of the other cottages we saw while here! Absolutely love they have a dog wash area and the Pet Exercise area was our Skye’s favorite! She ran on and on ! Definitely will return and let our friends that have Pets know , this is such an amazing location with so much to see nearby! We love Fort Bragg which is just 10 miles down the road!

This was our second stay (first one was over 3 years ago, different building/room). Nice, quiet, low-key place, good value for the area, great staff and good location a few miles south of Mendocino. Rooms are very clean, but could use some updating (depends on the building/unit), though beds are excellent. I would definitely recommend it.

I would never dream of staying here again. I booked what I thought was, and what appeared in the photos to be a “cottage”, but turned out to be a room wedged between two other rooms with paper thin walls so you could hear absolutely EVERYTHING the other guests were doing and saying - including the TV, walking, showering, snoring and even a couple’s midnight argument! Also the advertisement showed a fridge and microwave, but the microwave was on top of the fridge inside an old rickety cupboard, and the fridge and microwave made such a loud ferocious humming noise and the vibration reverberated throughout the room, we were forced (and told to) unplug it, therefore losing all our refrigerated food - and the freezer melted causing a puddle on the floor, which the hosts said they would bring spare towels for mopping and they didn’t.. so we used our own towels. My elderly father was visiting from Australia, and we were in the area for a memorial. We both couldn’t sleep due to all the above, and when we mentioned it to the hosts, they said there’s nothing we can do except unplug the fridge… I ended up having to book another room somewhere else, costing me an added $270 for the night so my elderly dad could get a good nights sleep.. The only positive was the coffee…I think this is false advertising, and the photos should show clearly the adjoining rooms and make it clearer in the description and should definitely not say cottages. The other negative is it’s right on HWY 1 and the bathrooms are extremely long in the tooth.I left feeling exhausted, exacerbated, and ripped off, and most of all felt really terrible for my dad..

Loved the location! So close to Mendo. We enjoyed being able to walk to Buckhorn Cove( with Joey's Island) It was very nice, quiet and relaxing. Although we did not bring our dog, it is a great place to stay with pets:) Each room is unique. We stayed in the Cypress with a kitchenette. It needed some maintenance (floors had water damage, windows too), but we will stay again! The staff was great, they knew it was our anniversary and they left us a nice note a small bottle of wine. I highly suggest you check out the different rooms.*** updateThis year we stayed in the Garden Cottage. Loved the seclusion and view from the private deck. It is our favorite room at the Inn. The Inn is just 3 miles from Mendo for sightseeing, beach, shopping and dining.

The room itself looked nice, just like the pictures so very picturesque. I loved the little patio, the welcome surprise, and the ease of check-in since it all self-check-in style. What I didn't love and me and my husband really struggled with was the horrible bathroom (shower looked as if it was falling apart, took forever for hot water to come, and the showerhead was really bad), the horrible wifi (would connect for maybe 1-2 minutes before dropping, even when connected would be really really slow which sucked since there was no service in the entire area), and there were so many loud noises during our stay. While it looked great, we just really would not stay here again because of those issues. If you don't mind those issues, it is a decent stay for the price.

Could not be more delighted with our room. We walked in to an expansive view of the ocean and landscape in between. The room was exceptionally spacious and tastefully decorated in a simple but comfortable style. All amenities were provided. The heating stove kept the room as we wanted it. (It was cold and stormy!). The bed was a king size and very comfortable.

I loved the welcome note for us and our dog. The bottle of wine and treats were very thoughtful! I also loved the open space that my dog could run, we enjoyed that. But the room itself was not what we expected. The shower was filthy. And the shower head was so dirty and clogged, barely any water came out, and what did come out, it was spraying correctly in only one part of the head. There were dead ants in the shampoo dispenser and live ants in the bed.

I’m adding my review to provide more information for future visitors. 1, This area is expensive, for example one medium size pizza costs around $28. 2, The room is just beside the highway, so it’ll not be quiet during the night due to the passing traffic. 3, The welcome cards are nice, but the room is not very comfortable. The only small table is occupied by the microwave and coffee maker, so there’s no space for bags. There are two sofas and they are quite dirty due to the age. The room temperature goes down to 60 degrees during a summer night! The bed is the highest I have ever slept.

This quaint, dog friendly inn was the perfect place to enjoy part of our vacation. From the unique water tower deck to watch sunsets, to the hot tub, and private yard it was all just a perfect set up. We also loved the note greeting, complimentary poop bags, treats, and frisbee our dogs received upon arrival to the room. They loved the dog beds too! The fireplace was also a great touch for those cool nights. Only four stars because I think the pillows and overall room could use an update. The experience made up for it though!

This place is a shell of its former self, which is really sad.We stayed in September and paid ~$200/night. There is no longer free breakfast, there is no check in desk, and we saw almost no one from the inn the whole time we were there. The wifi didn’t work in our room and was spotty at best outside. The innkeeper was sitting in the office smoking, despite the no smoking sign outside, and this made being in the indoor common areas of the inn unbearable. The hot tub and spa were closed and appeared to be in disrepair, and the whole property looked like it needed some TLC. Despite booking a room for three, we weren’t given enough towels and the innkeeper said they had to ask housekeeping for it which took several hours. There is still a nice swing and (overgrown) trail down to the creek, it is nice that the inn is pet friendly, the personalized note, and coffee and tea were nice touches. We used to come to Inn at Schoolhouse Creek with our dog(s) and we loved the breakfast surrounded by chipmunks, and birds and the little shop next to the office for dog biscuits and clothes. This inn is no longer as it used to be, but with some cleanup, renovations, more staff and some TLC it could definitely come back to life.

We’ve been coming to Mendocino for over 45 years. We’ve never stayed in a worse place. The mold and mildew assail your nose the second you open the dry rot deteriorating door. There is a trail of goo rolling down the doorway, some kind of seepage from the walls. We arrived with appetizers and made a large plate. We left the plate in the kitchenette while we enjoyed our wine and a small plate. When we returned to fill our plate the entire platter was filled with ants. We had to throw it all away. We called and emailed the manager to ask for an ant trap. It took them 36 hours, just before were leaving, for them to answer with an option to spray the ants. The kitchenette is not a gourmet kitchen as described. It’s a barely adequate kitchenette. The window sills are filled with grime. The shower door is old and cheap and does not close properly so water runs out everywhere. The sheets were luxurious but they put a king size sheet on a queen bed. The bed was so poorly made, we woke in the middle of the night with the sheets in a ball in the middle of the bed. We had to get up and completely remake the bed properly. There was no one on property. It is old and terribly neglected. The stairs to the deck are falling apart and have been reenforced making the steps tip downward. In the rain, incredibly dangerous. All in all saying this place is a dump, is to be kind. Do not buy into their flowery descriptions, and don’t waste your money. They refunded us $116 out of over $700 we paid for two nights. We feel robbed and lied to.

We absolutely loved our stay in the Garden Cottage. It has a small private deck, safely enclosed for our dog, and the common grounds include a huge meadow for doggies to run around and play safely with no roads around. The warm welcome that we and our pooch received was so appreciated. We had initially planned only to stay here for one night as a stopover on a road trip to Oregon. When we saw that there was a minimum 2-night stay, we said OK, let's do that. After spending a full day and a half in Mendocino, and at such a charming place for travelers and their dogs, we are already planning a trip back here as our destination, and will re-book at the Inn at Schoolhouse Creek, for sure. A+ rating!

This was our first time as guests here, but I really hope it becomes an annual tradition for us. The kindness, service, amenities, and atmosphere here were wonderful start to finish. There were loads of complimentary doggo accessories and even a welcome letter to our pups (!) and the whole property was quiet and peaceful. You can't beat the ocean view, and watching the nightly sunsets from our cottage porch was 10/10. Highly recommend. :)

I stayed in the Van Damne room and it was a cozy room with a comfy bed. It was very nice they left a tiny bottle of wine too. Unfortunately the downsides outweigh the good. Having the other rooms right next to it was loud, you could hear others talking through the walls and slamming doors. On top of that I paid for a working fireplace in the room and they said they would fix it the next day after I got in and never updated me or fixed it. Not having the fireplace for heat they provided two space heaters but the space heaters couldn’t be run while the microwave was going so it blew a fuse and the plugs didn’t work for half the day. I had to have a contractor and electrician come into my room twice during my stay which made me uncomfortable to leave all my stuff while I was out for the day. Overall I wish this Inn would have been more accommodating, responsive and attentive to these issues. I felt a bit neglected and forgotten about as a guest because it was a busy weekend. I would not stay here again.

Loved our time at the Inn at Schoolhouse Creek. It was a cute little cottage, and we were welcomed with a bottle of local wine. The location was nice, and only about 5-10 minutes from Mendocino. Very pet friendly and provided treats, a toy, a dog bed, and food/water bowls. My only complaint would be that the backyard landscaping of our cottage was really overgrown with thorn bushes and brush, so I wasn't able to let my dog roam freely like I was hoping. Otherwise, it was a great and easy place to stay!

Garden Cottage was perfect for us! The wine and dog accouterments were unexpected delights! I received a text from the owners prior to our departure asking if we needed anything! I felt so welcome. The cottage itself, while surrounded by trees and birds and sky, was right next to an expansive field. The room faced west and ,as you were in the bed, you had a view of the back yard and the large balcony. We're coming back for sure!
