If I could give this place 0 stars I would. The condition they keep their animals in is beyond shameful. Reptiles are frequently left dead inside the display cages on the retail floor with other live reptiles this horrendous place is still trying to sell. The juvi reptiles are left in cages that are overpopulated and have crickets 3-5 times the appropriate size. Any attempt to ask staff or management about the condition of the animals or why there are dead animals in the enclosure will be met with hostility. This place honestly breaks my heart. I will only be further interacting with this establishment in order to report them to someone who can advocate for the welfare of the animals.

Awesome selection of fish birds and reptiles the may have other animals as well but those are the 3 I check out. Service is great for how busy they are I've bought several beta fish and 3 parakeets in happy with them all

When it was owned by Joanne Vaughn and her husband....I Shopped there for years and went in regularly for fish, aquarium decor etc. After Joanne passed, I stopped going. Went back twice in the last few months to add more fish to my tropical tank, which I have had for over 10 years. Bought a small algae fish and about 4 neons. The place was filthy, way overpriced and the kids running it didn't seem to know a thing about fish. The algae fish died within 2 days and I lost 4 of my guppies which I've had for over a year. Went back yesterday for another algae fish. The kid kept trying to sell me an albino for $20, and said it was the only one he had. I looked around and found a tank with 4 to 5 at $9.99 each. At check out, he charged me $11.99 and when I questioned him, he said the $9.99 price was for the other 3 fish. The algae fish was dead the next day! I've had an algae fish for about 4 years and he's healthy so I'm guessing the fish they're selling are unhealthy and the stress of the tank transfer is killing them. I do not recommend this place at all

4 stars because the place could use some TLC but the people are wonderful. Went in to get fish for my daughter and they helped guide her to the fish that best suits her tank. Very knowledgeable and kind.

Worst place in the county to get a pet.. Too expensive and I always find dead animals . My betta I got from there was sick his whole life and only lived 5 months maybe less. This place needs to shut down!!! Talk about abuse. No one there knows anything about the animals or aquatic life!! Still horrified this place is still making money off sick or dying animals.

We went in to buy fish. The store stank, the tanks are filthy. The bird's cages desperately needed cleaning. The young girl working was barely civil to everyone she interacted with. When I asked about a particular fish she shrugged and vaguely waived at the fish tanks. There was so much stock left out, it was difficult to walk through the store.Hopefully, things change. It used to be such a great store.

We have been going here for over a year and have not had any issues. On Saturday the 12th we went and got a pleco and while we were there I noticed how dirty everything was. Fish tanks were covered in algae and spiders webs with dead fish in at least 10 tanks. We should have just left but we figured since we have been getting fish from here for a while that it would be okay to get one. Well the pleco died and so did all my other fish in that tank the very next day. Everything in that tank has been there for almost a year and there was nothing else that would have caused this except whatever illness or disease the pleco had. I called to inform the store and he basically said yeah that's too bad but not our fault. I know there is no guarantee on how long fish will last but I think it's ridiculous that their fish clearly carried something over to my tank and killed all my other fish and the only response I get is too bad. I used to love going here but I guess now I will be taking my business over the hill..

It's located in a nice spot with easy access. They have a nice selection of pet supplies. I gave them 3 stars due to the prices and bad smell. Last time I was in they had a dead snake that was there for awhile. The prices for the reptiles were very high.

Super friendly staff. Store didn't smell. Wanted crickets for our ducks, the young man helping suggested golf fish as well. We stayed with crickets, they were large which is what we wanted. Prices were fair, we will be back for good fish and more crickets.

Experienced and helpful owners and staff. Tremendous variety of pet items, including well-tended bird room, aquarium room, small mammals, snakes, reptiles, and aquatic plants. Owner Clinton takes the time to share his vast knowledge of all the creatures available for sale. Highly recommend.

Always out of everything. If she says it will be there Thursday it never is. The place was so much better when the husband was running things. The kids working in there are on their cell phones or to busy chatting with each other. They need a real Pet Store in that town. Good thing I moved. The live animals they sell are not in the best of health.

Absolutely horrified at the quality of animal care. Birds are overcrowded and stress plucking, mice and rats all look like they have minor upper respiratory infections, they have betta fish in "converted lava lamp tanks", all the reptile habitats were extremely dry, including a green tree python in shed, and their tarantulas are all being kept in the small boxes they are shipped from vendors in. I've worked at several pet stores, and have been in charge of caring for animals like these for years. You have to be seriously bad at your job or just really not care about quality of life to run your store like this.

This place should be out of business! The owner also should go to jail for multiple cases of animal abuse and neglect, I can’t believe a pet store like this exists! She crams too many animals in one tank, she doesn’t feed them properly, she sells sick and emaciated animals, it’s a complete and utter mess. Please do not buy animals or support this business in any way possible. She needs to be shut down and thrown in a cage herself!

Instead of knocking small businesses down,how about we come up with a solution to help?? You see one post on Facebook and come to Google reviews to take out someone elses experience with the store out on the store. I myself have been using them for YEARS no problems what so ever. Understaffing is apparent everywhere. Give them a chance to fix the issue before jumping to SHUT THEM DOWN. It's the only local store we have. Help them! Don't destroy them.

The people here are professional, knowledgeable, and well stocked. They have many wonderful products as well as pets for sale ranging from birds, reptiles, saltwater and freshwater fish a plants plus much more. I would stop in and support the local business that help serve Lakeport during it's time of crisis and continues to help daily.

we have been loyal customers here for years, and we just purchased 4 fancy guppies that were infested with parasites. the man who answered the phone was rude, & said it was perhaps OUR FAULT. he took no responsibility, & did not offer any replacement or restitituion. 2 of these fish died within the first week, & the remaining 2 have worms inside. we had a brand new tank, new gravel, new everything. for him to say it is our fault is rediculous. I like this store & never had any problems here until now. this is awful. I thought these people were nice folks who care about their customers.

I bought two southern toads and dealt with a very inexperienced employee that didn't know the name, price or any details about them or ANY of the frogs in the store and the manager was no where to be seen. She picked out two males and told me specifically that it was one male and one female, then next day after examining them I realize they are both males and called the store probably 25 times before anyone bothered to pick up just so they could basically tell me "I didn't guarantee you anything that's not my problem I can't do anything for you" don't shop here it's over priced and not worth your time they don't care about the customers at all!!

Absolutely top-notch customer service! I came to get some pet supplies but needed a curbside pickup which they offered free of charge, and with great assistance. I was patiently and thoroughly helped while on the phone and had no trouble picking up. Great experience, would gladly recommend.

I absolutely love this pet store, great staff. Baught my bearded dragon their about 2 yrs ago. And continue to go their for all my reptiles needs.their verry helpful people. Well kept store and animals. Also I get my fish from here and am a satisfied customer all around

I have been keeping reptiles for a number of years, when I moved to lake county I decided to try this pet shop for feeders/lights and other supplies. When I went into this pet store i was appalled at how they are keeping these poor reptiles. I have rescued 2 reptiles from there so far to get them out of there horrible care. They currently have a peach throat monitor that is about mid adult at this point and he is in the smallest enclosure for him I cant imagine he can even turn around. On top of that they just got a new monitor when they are already not taking proper care of the first one! They have a baby lizard in one of there small 10 gallon tanks that looks to be dead already if not hes very close to death. This pet shop needs to stop selling animals. Its honestly cruel and just unacceptable.

Always a pleasant place to go. Disregard the neysayer reviews that think privately owned small business pet stores are like the large chain stores like Petsmart. Small pet stores will and always have smelled like fish water and rodents. Prices are as expected for a small business.

I’ve seen and bought multiple pets from this store in horrible condition. I’ve had to ask them to clean enclosures because I worry about the pets getting infections or sick. I bought a Betta a few days ago, the NO2 levels in his water were toxic, he’s slowly acclimating to my aquarium but wont eat still because of stress. I bought an Ornate Box Turtle who they sold to me sick, without any vet paper work (which is illegal in California) and she ended up dying 3 months later. They don’t do returns for sick pets and don’t give out or have you fill out any documentation for the pet. Disappointing and disgusting to treat animals the way they do, heavily considering reporting them to the humane society.Every single pet i’ve got from here (tarantula, bearded dragon, bettas, turtle) have all died due to underlying health conditions that they didn’t tell me about prior, the amount of money, emotion, and time ive paid is immeasurable.

Needed dog food. I feed Merrick which is difficult to find at times since it is a fairly expensive food. Normally I would have to order or drive to Santa Rosa. I was stuck in that very predicament when I called pet country. They had my food in stock, so points for no drive to Santa Rosa. The store had a great selection of birds, fish, snakes, and rodents. The staff was very helpful, the prices were not bad at all, and I would prefer to support a small business owner instead of a chain store anyway. I will be going back. Only negative, the sign out front does not stand out. I lived right by here for three months before I found it on a google search.

Pet country is lake counties best pet supply store bar none , they kind of specialize in birds and fish but they have reptiles , hamsters , rats and feeders of almost every kind . Clinton and Anette (the owners) are friendly, courteous and extremely knowledgeable about the animals they sell and house . I got one of my best buddies there (Cooper, my African Grey Parrott) and he's been an absolutely delightful edition to our family , he's healthy , happy and well adjusted . Pet country has it all when it comes to pets including boarding , medical supplies , toys of all sorts and great advice if you need it.

The bird room was cramped, smelt dirty, and was messy. It had bird food everywhere. The Betta fish were dead or almost dead. The other fish were in dirty thanks that you couldn't even see in from the amount of algae that was in the tank. Some fish were dead too. The reptiles were heavily malnourished. They looked like they were only skin and bone. They also moved Mandy, the bird who was always by the front into the bird room behind a closed door

This store has gone way down hill. I went yesterday and boxes after boxes everywhere on the floor almost fell.then there were so many bugs on the floor! Customer service is a no go. What happened to the original workers??? We need you back. Anyway iam not going here again IL just drive to Kelseyville to the feed farm store. Hope you get your store together it's a Hazzard in every way.

Went into the store with my daughter to buy her a guinea pig that I had called previously about when I walked into the store the kid working there asked me to leave because they were not open however the sign out front said open and door was unlocked when i pointed this out he was nonchalant about it and persisted that we leave the store.never knew in the retail world that it was the proper thing to ask paying customer to leave the store due to something as menial as a 15-minute time difference.I will not be back.

I usually go in to get dog food, but I like spending time looking at the other animals and fish. The fish tanks are the cleanest I've seen. The staff is wonderful. Knowledgeable, helpful and really a nice group!

I like this store. I do not have to use frequently however when I go there the staff is always helpful. I would like to see it more organized. There are plenty of critters to look at. I hope you enjoy.
