Carol and Rod go above and beyond, what more can I say.The house is picturesque with a beautiful view of the river and amazing architecture in the yard. Every detail is curated inside and out. The home is so comfortable. From kitchen necessities to stylish decor, this house has everything. My husband and I love to stay in just one floor for a romantic getaway or we include the whole extended family with the full Big View House.Again, Carol and Rod are superb hosts that think of every last thing. (Including a phenomenal online guide book with ALLLL the recommendations you could ever need). I cannot recommend this home/hosts more.Book now. Happiness awaits.

We have made two visits to the Kern River House - both wonderful experiences. The home itself is beautifully designed and appointed. You will not lack for any amenity! Rod is the designer and Carol is the landscaper. In fact, on both of our visits we were so comfortable and relaxed in this beautiful environment, that we were not very motivated to get out and do things - although there are plentiful things to enjoy in the environs. Hanging out on the comfy deck or upper porch, listening to the river and watching the rafters and kayakers pass by - what better way to take a break from the city and all its 'requirements.' On our second visit we brought our German Shepherd, and he had a great time exploring all the levels of landscaping below the house. We've always gone as two couples, but next time I think we will just rent the lower apartment because it is all we need as a single couple. Many thanks, Carol and Rod, for providing such a lovely getaway.

The Kern River house is one of our favorite places for a yearly retreat for our family, including our pup!We’ve gone in the winter when the air is crisp, last summer when we tubed and floated and swam in the Kern and this summer where even though it was too fast and high for a dip, we watched so many rafters and kayakers having a blast.The home is perfect! The decor is adorable and relaxing. Everything is wonderful and is like camping without the camping part! We are sincerely so into the Kern River House that we will be coming every year for as long as possible.As an added bonus, Carol and Rod are such a joy and fantastic hosts.Be sure to grab a blue mine burger and a Chuuuurch! IPA from Kern River Brewing. If you don’t feel like going out or cooking, order in from Pizza Barn. The market nearby is well stocked too!I almost don’t want to post this review because I want to keep this gem all to myself.

The Kern River House is a magical place to stay. The home itself is beautifully decorated and has large windows facing the mountains and river - there is a comfy chair that I could sit in all day just looking out. It is also extremely well-equipped (kitchen supplies down to metal sticks for marshmallow roasting, good books, ample comfy seating - including an outdoor swing right in front of the river, and amazing toiletries). Our hosts Carol and Rod were very helpful and friendly, and let us borrow stand up paddle boards to take to Lake Isabella (which was so full that we paddled around tree tops). We had a wonderful time hiking around the area, white water rafting, and even doing yoga on the deck (while watching other rafters pass by the river right in front of us). This place and our hosts - real gems.

This is one of our very favorite weekend trips from LA. The folks at the Kern River House have impeccable taste in interior and landscape design and are such amazing, thoughtful hosts. We always feel completely refreshed after staying at the Big River House or the Cabin. I couldn't recommend more strongly. What an absolute gem.

My family and I have been going to the Kern River House for a few years now and are completely in love with this magical place. We have stayed in two different locations and have had an excellent experience in both. Traveling with two children under 5 can be extremely difficult and The Kern River House provides a comfortable and accommodating place for the entire family. It is completely set up for kids so we can travel light! We have also brought our dog with us and he, as well, has everything he needs already there. It feels like home when we visit. But much nicer! It is close to the river so we are able to just step outside for our day's adventure. I plan to make a trip to the cabin at least once a year. There is so much to do as a family and we have made so many beautiful memories.

If it were possible I’d give a 10 star rating! Such a beautiful spot with every attention to detail. The trailer is perfect and well kept. The outdoor shower and hot tub amazing. I can’t say enough about all the seating areas to enjoy the river. Don’t delay your trip here it will be entirely worth it! Thank you Carol!

We just got back from spending an incredibly relaxing few days in the Moon Shine Trail. Carol and Rodrigo are such amazing hosts. Every single detail has been thought out, from the 2-person wooden hot tub, to the comfy queen-size bed with linen duvet, private outdoor shower (with little frogs that come to visit). and everything in between! This is a small but mighty Airstream, with every inch thought out. Right on the rushing Kern River. Mornings were spent drinking coffee in the Anirondacks by the river's edge, taking it all in. Days were spent exploring the river and surrounding area. Evenings, rocking in the comfy chairs in front of the Airstream. We love all of the properties Carol and Rodrigo offer for rent. They have such incredible taste, they are so thoughtful, and conscientious about the area. We have stayed in all their places multiple times and truly the only place(s) we like to stay while visiting the beautiful Kern. Thank you again for a restful, rejuvenating stay!

We love staying at The Kern River House. This was our second year returning and our kids are already asking when we can go back again. Carol and Rod are the best hosts, and the house is just perfectly suited for your stay. A well-stocked kitchen, clean comfy beds, towels for your dog, all of it. A wonderful stay each time!

The Kern River house will make you feel right at home on the river. Spacious, bright, and cozy at the same time. The two levels make the big house perfect for group trips. We also had the opportunity to stay in the Moonshine Trailer, which is adorable, clean, and atmospheric with a beautiful, private outdoor shower, so you can feel a bit closer to nature without fully committing to camping. Whenever visiting Kern, this is the spot.

The attention to detail is second to none and really makes your stay that more special. This is without question one of if the not the best place we have stayed. Our research group from UCLA rented both properties for a laboratory retreat. The whole weekend was relaxing and rejuvenating. From discussing science in front of the fireplaces or having BBQ together on the patio overlooking the river, everyone had a great time. The houses are way better than any rentals any of us had stayed at recently. We had lots of teambuilding activities (e.g., hikes, fishing, etc.). Rod and Carol were the most outstanding hosts and quick to help and answer questions…building a fire looks so easy! Our entire group cannot wait to return next year…or sooner!

Stunning house with truly picture perfect views of big daddy rapid and the majestic Sierra mountains. I've been visiting the Kern River for 30 yrs for its beauty and tranquility. Its only 2.5 hrs from LA and clears the head and heals the soul. While this little town has maintained its antiquity and charm, new interests have provided for impeccably appointed accomodations. TheKern River House leaves nothing out, from dreamy sheets and cozy blankets to carefully chosen furnishings and kitchen neccesities. Richly landscaped to give one privacy and the sounds of nature, that, living in LA is only accomplished with with Spotify and ear buds. This House was the perfect weekend get away for me and my girlfriends.Thank you for creating this magical home and sharing it... I will be back!

Five stars is not enough! We stayed at the Big View House for a weekend and had a magical time. We can’t wait to return. This may be the most well-appointed, comfortable, beautifully decorated, and thoughtfully designed vacation rental home I have ever stayed in. Plus, a picturesque and serene location right on the river, many cozy sitting areas, fireplaces, even a porch swing. Our little group of family and friends (4 adults and 3 children, and a little pooch) had a blast. Dog friendly, too! We loved this property. You will not regret staying here and experiencing the gateway to the southern Sierras in comfort and style.

As lovely as the pictures are, they somehow don’t do this magical cabin justice. From the moment you walk into the refreshing spa-like smell of this well-appointed cabin, you’re swept right into vacation mode. Outside of the thoughtful design, both inside and out, the extra touches, including the charging station, the dog amenities, the coffee grinder, bluetooth speaker and record player (which we used more than once!), brought it all together. Every single thing in the cabin is very obviously well thought out… and as someone who’s travelled all over the world and rented many an airbnb, I can safely say it makes an overwhelming difference. The span of the property isn’t evident in the photos.. from the two-person hammock in back to the Adirondack’s along their private beach area, the landscaping is meticulously crafted and laid out. And the view from the front deck (and master bedroom) below a breathtaking, starry-night sky makes for a perfect storybook ending.Thanks for making our 50th birthday celebration more spectacular than we expected!Coco & Jason

We really had the most relaxing weekend at the Moonshine Trailer,it was the perfect babymoon!Waking up to the river in the morning at such a beautiful time of year,our little chihuahua was also in heaven sunbathing lol!Carol and Rod always put so much attention to detail and the trailer had all the mod cons you would ever need,the bed was so comfortable and the outdoor shower was a treat!We highly recommend the Moonshine Trailer and can’t wait to go back!Thank you so much for the perfect weekend getaway!
