We stayed in a cabin so we could join a large group of friends who were camping. The cabin was perfectly fine for the two of us. The cabin was clean and the bed was comfortable. There were lots of bath towels. A staff member escorted us to the cabin and demonstrated how to use the heater and showed us the various appliances stored in the kitchen. My only complaint is that we were only provided a single roll of toilet paper, so I had to go to the office for more when we ran out. Every staff member we encountered was friendly and helpful. We really enjoyed our time at Camp James and look forward to returning!Nearby activities: Camp James is adjacent to the Kern River. Guests can fish, kayak, hike, or even go rafting or shooting. There are plenty of restaurants nearby, too.

My family stayed in the love cabin. Small and cozy perfect for the 3 of us. The cabin was was clean with very comfortable beds and bedding. We loved the deck with the view of the river. Our first night the smoke alarm battery went off at 5am not how I wanted to start vacation, the battery was changed and problem solved. Next morning I went to cook breakfast, Since there is no stove I went to use the electric skillet and the cord looked burned and was not safe to use so we had to go to town and eat out. Disappointed that we didn’t get to enjoy a nice meal in the cabin, we decided to leave a day early. All the people working there were nice and overall place was pleasant.

We went for our first time to Camp James this past week and just had a blast. We had reserved spots,#36,#37 and #38 because we had 3 RV’s and there was 8 of us. The site was just so clean, staff were great and friendly. The newly remodeled bath house was very nice, just need to add some hooks and possible shelves to put clothes and toiletries on.We were able to purchase fire wood as needed and even went into town and had a brew at the Kern River Brewing Co. Make sure you try the Cheese Curds if you go, they are delicious .Also in town was James Market, what a cool place, so much to see inside. We will most definitely be back to visit again, would highly recommend to stay here.

Nicely maintained campsites, we stayed for a couple days & were strictly told, NO projectiles of any kind, only one car at each site (safety) & no dogs off leash. So it was surprising there was NO enforcement of these rules. Kids shooting rapid fire pellet guns morning, noon & night (my girlfriend took a walk to lower camping spots to get a visual of what it was since we couldn’t really tell) two cars at sites, dogs roaming; no staff stopping any of it. The overall state-campground feeling could’ve been avoided if KRS had imposed their own safety policies outlined at check-in.As for amenities, there was a basketball hoop at the end of the road with a picnic area that was kinda overgrown. Our site’s side had a bath house and dog run for those traveling with, and dump station too. Lots of shade at this end.Although they advertise as an RV “Resort” the standard wasn’t really met, as there wasn’t any upgrades like: a pool, quick hot food/cafe, planned events, site trash-pickup or firewood deliveries. This place could become one with just a few upgrades and I’d then recommend.Happy Trails!

We’ve been staying in the cabins for years at Camp James. The grounds are immaculate. We love feeling like we’re camping with the amenities of running water and heating and A/C. The bad side is the cabins are starting to show their wear without a lot of attention to fixing it. The mat inside our cabin to wipe your feet is basically disintegrated. The cabins are cleaned between use, but need a deep cleaning around the edges, etc. We will always come back, and are excited to see 3 new cabins going in. I just think they need to spend some time and money into the existing ones as well.

Absolutely lovely place! My partner and I stayed in a cabin here for Christmas and the experience was wonderful. There's plenty of space, the beds are comfy, the heater works super well, there's a perfect balance between privacy with the blinds but also exposure to nature so you can easily look out and see the beauty surrounding you. The location was perfect too! Stocked market right up the street, park in town, excellent shops a quick walk away. Loved it.

This was our first time staying at Camp James. We love the Kernville area and have stayed at other campgrounds, but Camp James is now our favorite. Friendly staff, clean campsites and amenities. Very clean bathroom facilities. I noticed workers constantly walking/driving through and cleaning up any trash and emptying the trash cans. We were in site 62 with our 5th wheel. The site was large and well shaded. We already booked another trip in September.

I have been visiting Camp James for four years now and absolutely love it. Rose and Lonette are wonderful and go out of their way to take care of you.I usually bring my trailer up and camp, and it's a blast. Being able to sleep listening to the river is awesome. The newly remodeled bathrooms are great. This last week I rented the little house for the first time, and let me tell it is adorable. It has three bedrooms, two bathrooms and a futon in the living room, full kitchen, and washer and drier. The patio has cafe lights strung and there is a great little fire pit. There are window air conditioners in all the rooms, ceiling fans and extra fans if needed.Between the wonderful customer service and amazing atmosphere, I would 100% recommend Camp James for a wonderful getaway.

We had a 16th birthday gathering of 30 people. Almost everyone had their own RV. I stayed in cabin 29. It was so cute and cozy. The cute country touches made my stay more enjoyable. The king bed was comfortable, heater kept cabin warm at night, great hot water and water pressure. Thank you Rosie for great customer service! I'll be back next year.

We had the most AMAZING time here! The cabin is so cute and spacious. We came during the winter months and the heater worked perfectly to keep every room cozy. Full tub and shower. The area is beautiful and we enjoyed our stay in the cute mountain town of Kernville. Mackenzie was an awesome host and made sure we had the absolute perfect stay. We will most definitely be back and staying here again!

We loved the little cabin. We went to check out this campground my sister and husband have their trailer there and love it. We looked at the possibility of us doing the same thing..Our cabin was very nice, comfortable king size bed, great little kitchen.. I mean no stovetop or oven, but had a microwave, griddle, crock pot and electric frying pan, so that was great.Bathroom was nice, tub/shower but we had one issue with the bathroom sink leaking...we noticed an issue with the faucet, but the next morning I went to shave (my wife put my shaving kit and her items under the sink in the cabinet), my shaving kit was wet, very wet (glad my shaver was fine)...Since we were there for only two nights we reported it, but we guess they weren't able to fix it. But we still had a great time..Thanks Kenny S

What a great weekend. We were there with family for my grandson's 16th birthday and it was a beautiful weekend. My husband and two sisters stayed in the house. It was my 2nd time in the house and I just love it. We'll be back next year. I would love to come more often but it never seems to work out. The only complaint I have, which isn't your fault, is that no fish were caught. My family has been going for years and have ALWAYS caught fish. Guess they weren't hungry that weekend.Laura HattonLaura

Showers are 5 dollars. The restaurant is ok. Saloon is good. Stayed in an rv site, and the sewer drain is very tall, so I had to lift the hose to empty it out. Inexpensive place. Would go again.

My family stayed at the river house from Oct 19-21. Because there were eight of us we needed to use the two rollaway beds, but found them both unusable, so one person slept on the sofa and another on the mattress on the floor. Also, it would have been nice to be able to open the bathroom window, but the opener did not work. Additionally, it would be helpful to have a can opener and scissors in the kitchen utensil drawer. The office staff was very friendly and helpful. Aside from the bedding problem, overall, the river house met most of our needs, but at $1300 for 3 nights, I think it’s overpriced.

Exceedingly clean, cozy campsites. Yes, the showers (still) need to be improved (coin box located outside the shower stall, too cold for too long then too hot/difficult to regulate/have to step out to reload more coins if your hair is still soapy/etc/etc). Militant about wearing bracelets. "Gotcha" with the extra fees for pets (why wasn't this included in the initial camp reservation fee?). But it was quiet at night. People were friendly. Great access to the river.

Stayed here numerous times. We like it. A little disappointed bc I couldn't get the discount code when we checked in. Bathrooms are clean. The volleyball area hasn't been maintained. Suggest putting in a play structure there. Have never stayed in the cabins. Only campground but they look nice. Have site sizes for all types of RVs/trailers. Right on the river. Pretty pricey. Has gone up. Staff are friendly.
