It was all about the health & happiness of the birds 24/7. I picked up a copy of Principles of Avian Medicine and my father, the doctor would call in the scripts to Kelseyville Pharmacy. I would calculate the correct dosage based on the gram weight of our feathered friend. We even saved wild birds even though we were never licensed to practice veterinary medicine or capture wild birds. I'm part Mexican and we don't need no stinking badges plus I have a B.S. from a U.C. school and enough licenses to occupy any Homeland Security paper pusher for a week. When a certified avian medical veterinarian became available I picked up injured wild birds and transported them to their facility. Sounds easy? Injured wild birds can be hard to handle! Keep your safety glasses on and turn your ball cap around. That ball cap looks like a big beak and they think you are going to eat them. Birds are not stupid, 5 year olds with the emotional state of a 2 year old and a razor blade it their beak.
