I love this place. Many good memories of good food, friendly locals, and epic views. If you are in the area you would be remiss to not stop in and spend some time sitting on the porch taking in the view of this awesome created world we call home.

We stopped by there after camping at Lone Pine campground. Brett was a nice guy. We got a free general store calendar. Thank you.

What a great accident to find! I stopped in the "General Store" for some "General" information. What I found was a great small group of people. They were very helpful. Unfortunately due to the great government of California shutting down the parks the day before I got there, I was only able to stay one night. I definitely plan on returning for another visit.I will say if you are looking for a place to drink, smoke and get roudy... This isn't the place for you. They enjoy their peace and quiet and have a set of rules in place for a reason. The outdoor movie with the sunset in the background was something I wasn't expecting and was the best way to watch a movie. The outdoor shower is great. Under the stars, sunset, sunrise.. I'd take this over any I've had in a while. It was relaxing and stress releasing for sure.If you happen to run across this review, keep it to yourself. It's a gem best kept from being plundered by the undesirables.I'm really praying for everyone there and hope and look forward to seeing everyone again next year. One warning. There is no cell phone service, there is however a WORKING PAYPHONE!!! They do have wifi (if you want it, it's pay wifi) I just enjoyed being off the grid. Thanks again for the great memory.Jeremy.

Stuff here for the PCT hikers and just people who want to just stop by for a snack or meal. Follow on social media to see any upcoming events.

Had a fire crew up at the campground, we ate 3 meals a day, excellent service and food. Owners and staff were amazing people. With there hospitality and fur babies made it feel closer to home. Store had everything we needed. Definitely make it a stop if your in the area.

Great store with fair prices. We enjoyed a cold one on the deck and chatted with locals. Beautiful horses and views. Wifi is not free!

A little grumpy, but once you get to know him the store owner is a pretty genuine guy! Thanks for letting us crash there for two nights and those amazing burgers you made! A tad expensive, but more than worth it!

I camped here for almost an entire week while hiking the PCT. Here are some pros and cons.Pros: The Wi-Fi is free, camping was free, ice cold drinks, good tasting reasonably price food, chill staff, party atmosphere when I first got there, decent grocery selectionCons: Expensive, outdoor, cold-water showerThe Wi-Fi is so slow it is practically useless, the port-o-potties were the worst I've seen in my life. They were all quite literally filled to the brim. Grossest toilet area I've seen in my lifePCT Hickers: recharge batteries, camp here and buy groceries here.Sent resupply, Shower, Wi-Fi, and restroom breaks at Grumpy Bear'sPictures are: Amphitheater/ the deck area/ night shot of front of store from parking lot/ example of camping area/ the showers/ the men's 'restroom'/ view off of deck including gas price sign

As a hiker, this place wasn’t the best, it was all we had.The grumpy older man at the front tried not to give me the package I sent there. I had to beg him to go back and check again because I knew it was there, it was.Another employee was really rude to me, they just seem unhappy with what they do.The food is pretty good but inconvenient that they close at 5:00

It is always great to have a store near a trailhead. I enjoyed their cold soda, milk, yogurt. But maybe most important: I loved hanging out with the regulars. We may not agree on politics, but sure agreed on the bigger life-topics like health, nature, respect and friendliness. I will certainly be back!

Great cabin-like store surrounded by pines serving a variety of beverages and food made to order. Great for PCT hikers in need of protein meals. Numerous items needed by campers and hikers including souvenirs. A fantastic staff providing assistance! Great stories from PCT hikers. What a great combination!

The only place in miles with cell phone service - in the form of free wifi - Amazing resource for anyone traveling through the area! Breakfast and lunch is served fresh! Camping is free behind the store to respectful campers. Beer, ice, water, snacks and supplies! Great people and great location

Love this place! You want to learn about this area, stop in and start chatting. Most people, even from California, have never heard of the Domeland Wilderness, much less, can talk to you about access, trails, water holes, technical climbing, and the like. I’ve driven up and down 395 for a couple of years, and thought about driving in. Don’t wait! Get here!

Been fishing the streams around here all my life. When I was a kid, the general store would play silent movies on a large rock in the back. Brad, Twain and Jeremy were king and helpfull. Good food and beer. Just watching the hikers come off the PCT and cheer each other on is great. They even keep mail there for people coming off the trail. And they have wifi which we needed to check in.Rustic amd beautiful. See you guys again soon!

A magical place high in the sequoia national forest. Patio dining campgrounds and resorts nearby. Gorgeous scenery. Fabulous mountain vibe. I will definitely go back for a meal!!

After a photo opt at this previously historic general store, SKIP the new owners having nothing working for PCT hikers and the over priced anything there....and go 3 miles South to Grumpy Bears to hanging out and enjoy the vibe of your PCT mile stone with other hikers there.Had a Twilight Zone occurrence with the general store owner who, after swapping bar stories was apparently scared and called the sheriff. I was pulled aside as I was leaving for my tent, frisked like a criminal, told to stay in the arms out - feet spread position while a background check was run, my driver's licence pulled and run and then was told I was trespassing and ordered to pack up and leave immediately....(with a spring snowstorm hrs away)Other patrons as well as the owners wife appologized for his actions and told me they didn't know why he did such a thing. He told me he had called the sheriff on other hikers in weeks preceding.Be careful of folks like him.

First visit under new owners. Liked the tractor seat bar stools, didn't get to check out the store inventory - too busy catching up with neighbors. ( Happy Birthday to Suzie! & my how Clayton has grown!) It was a busy Saturday Night with a 3 piece Country Western Band & a special dinner out on the porch. Inside, line was long but moving well: hikers & locals buying drinks of all kinds, hikers collecting their resupply packages, hooking up& making plans. You have to be grateful a place like the KMGS is carrying on in our remote little mountain community!

Expensive and sparsely supplied. Its is a great place though to hang out with fellow hikers. There is wifi, but it doesn't work. There is 1 pay phone but its 2 dollars to make a call. The town has this vibe where it seems all the locals hate each other and are trying to suck as much money from hikers as possible.

Holy cow! I don't know why I thought of this place but figured I would look it up. Stayed here in 2015 for a couple days on a PCT thru, though I read it has new owners. It was one of the trashiest places I have ever seen. The porta potties were literally full to the brim. Showers were via a broken shower head with cold water. Food was ok. Owners were unfriendly, everything was over priced with limited selection. A diner a couple miles away had all you can eat pancakes but never came back around for seconds and took about 45 min to get the first plate. The lady owner tried to take over $100 as a tip when her card reader malfunctioned from some poor hiker. Hanging out with everyone was great but those owners were beyond useless. I hope the new owners actually try to make a go of it.

A comfortable home town feeling when you walk in there people are on the patio drinking a beer the dogs are running around it reminds me of back when I was in the organ area into small little country towns period in the people who are friendly. One of the incredible things they support for Kennedy Meadows. That's why they get a 5-star rating period fed for their community service

What a great drive coming from Kernville. So many beautiful trees and landscape. There's a great view of the Kern plateau along the way as well.

New owners 2018. In past, open late spring to early fall : Sels GAS! propane. Has phone, mail drop, limited camping for PC hikers, showers. Porch/ burger Shack has limited hours, dinner/ potlucks/ music in evening are special events. Practical miscellany in little store: plenty of BEER! ( Hope all goes well with ownership transfer)

Great local store, stocked with cold beer & other drinks, & assorted grocery items for campers & locals who may have forgotten something. Great burgers @ their cook shack. Excellent porch & deck areas to hang out on.

Best base camp in So Cal.... that we know of so far lol - with the variety of available nearby or further camp sites, trails, etc. this is a great location at a good elevation. So you drive up & wanna one day hike with a cool location and few people(?) or a 6 week trip.... or anything in between - or beyond - the choice is yours. This is our stepping off point from Orange County & thankfully KM has many of the things we prefer in one location - let alone the land line and food supplies help us tenderfoots feel a little more at ease without our cell phone and gps niceities. Here we can explore remote areas and then go further as our skills and local knowledge improves. This may not be an Everest base camp but to us we are no where near looking for challenge - just a fun learning experience. This is also one of the few places close to home where we get that kinda outpost ghost town feeling. Maybe more so from us being there in the off season. In closing I highly recommend using google earth to look around as well as perusing the available videos found online. This is truly a special place and worthy of the time and effort to explore. If this review helped you please give me a thumbs up.Cheers!!!

My son and I stopped in for late lunch twice over the 4th of July 2020 weekend, the place as expected was a madhouse, super long wait times for the grill, but with limited choices. The burgers were good, the beer was cold.

Very friendly and helpful employees. This is the only store and gasoline for miles. Because there is no mobile phone service, this is a great stop to send a text, check your email, or make a call. The WiFi calling is only about $3 or less for two hours of use.

A surprisingly good selection of hiking supplies and random convenient store type snacks and drinks. Talking to the PCT through hikers is always an enjoyable experience as well.

Stayed in the area, ate, showered and hung out for nearly a week in 2011 on a PCT thru hike. The rangers would not let us continue as this was the largest snowpack they’d experienced in a decade.

They have gas!!! This is a life saver. If you're passing by, better fuel up because you won't find another gas station for miles.I saw a sign that KM has a population of 200; 20 of them sitting at the store. ;)
