Parking is terrible here but not only that every single time I show up to this place I find issues. 0-1 checkout lines open, empty shelves, tripping hazards, employees block the aisles with carts, uninformed employees, employees having phone conversations on the sales floor, poor quality produce. Just a complete mess. For darn sake’s I couldn’t even find a bag to bag my produce. What happened to the days when Safeway was outstanding. When stocking took place when the store was closed & not while customers are shopping. It’s been an issue since they opened and management has yet to correct any of the problems here years after.

Not many people like using self-checkout which was a plus for me. I was In and Out in minutes with my Everett and Jones BBQ sauce.

This store is a mad house. You compete to get in the parking lot. One car per green because the entrance is right in front the the storefront crosswalk. The back exit is a mess of cars at the gas station and a one-way road; you can only turn right to get out. The entrance turn lane from the south is a mess of cars trying to get on the highway and blocking the entrance. Then you get in the store. Sky high prices and if you want savings you'll have to download an app (before you arrive as there's no service inside the building). The membership savings do not include newspaper coupons or digital coupons, so good luck getting any of the advertised savings. No customer services staff to help with a line of people at the back waiting for someone to show up and help. The cashiers tell you to call corporate if you want to lodge a complaint. What understaffed, angry employees. Angry customers now too.The city council knew better than to build on that corner. Shame on them.

This is relatively NEW Safeway and I will never understand the parking lot! Why build so many businesses in way too small of a lot? I am sure Safeway has enough money to build another parking level.PLUS I decided I didn’t need my shopping cart and while my husband waited in the long lines I went to return to the cart area. WRONG! Unbeknownst to me, the cart would not go outside until it went through a register so it got stuck in the doorway. Then I went over to customer service to complain and explain and no one ever came to assist.However, Still better than the El Cerrito Safeway.

By far THE BEST Safeway I've ever been too (and I've been to many throughout the Bay Area). It's even nicer than the Mill Valley Safeway, which I feel is saying something. So many types of fresh fruit, nuts, alcohol, you name it.

It's the big Safeway and it's laid out in a way that is great for not getting lost the security guard acts like he can't speak English but other than that it's a nice story very clean customer service is great.

This Safeway WAS great when it first opened. Now not so much. If you are a diabetic, do not shop here. For some reason they stopped stocking many sugar free and dairy free items. Initially, they stocked many healthy items. now they dont, I called and asked them if they could just keep stocking the stuff that they used to, I got no response. The products they no longer stock but used to are: Swiss Miss Reduced calorie, So coconut milk, So icecream bars, # 3 coffee filters, Mothers oatmeal cookies, gluton free coconut chocolate chip cookies, Nagori Sake, Organic blueberries, harvest gluton free pasta. They just don't care. Its a real shame when places go down hill because people who work there dont care about their customers needs. There is a definite problem with consistency. Kudos to the produce department, otherwise only 1 star.

No one answers the phone at the flower department. I got transferred 3 times from customer service and during the last time when the phone goes back to them, they stopped answering. Probably not answering on purpose to avoid me asking about the flower department again.

The store is clean and very well arranged. Don't go early on Tuesday, they stock and some products may not be on the shelves. Everyone is friendly and helpful, much more than the other store in town. If you go later in the morning or early afternoon,the parking is fine. This store also offers Friday specials. They have great custom sandwiches and a fully stocked deli.

Dear Safeway:Went into your Hercules store on Sunday morning. After shopping for about an hour, I discovered:One cashier was working. Nobody was bagging.I don't expect a self-service experience from a full-service grocer.THE CASHIER COMPLAINED THAT I WASN'T HELPING HIM...HE CONTINUED TO COMPLAIN WHEN I DECLINED TO DO HIS JOB.IN FACT, HE WOULDN'T STOP. HE STARTED THROWING MY FOOD AROUND.(A better move would have been to bag my groceries and call for assistance. Someone doing shelving work should have come to the front of the store to assist him.)I can go to Lucky and get better customer service.If I'm going to bag, I can get better prices at Grocery Outlet.Nob Hill is a little further from my house but is a nicer store with staff that knows how to act.*You aren't running a cooperative.*Your competition has baggers.It's up to cashiers to know to ask for help when they are overworked.Maybe this okay for some of your customers, but I don't want to scan or bag $250 in purchases myself when the expectation is that someone is providing that service and it's included in the price that I'm paying.You can fix this, or I can go back to shopping at Nob Hill.

Shopping at Hercules Safeway is beautiful. They have self check out which I love!!! It has a Starbucks too. I love that we have Safeway gas station!!! ⛽️🚙. The cons are they have a weird crammed-up small parking lot that they share with Case Bank and Pete’s Coffee.I wish they didn't have the bank and Peets Coffee because we would had more parking.

I enjoy going to this Safeway store right in our neighborhood since it opened. The aisles have street names highlighting familiar streets in Hercules. Great produce section. The deli is pretty good and the staff is very helpful. Parking can be a little tricky at times, so try to avoid high traffic hours like after work/rush hour.

Just got a reminder of why I will always prefer self checkout. A daily deal through the app was not working. I simply told them about the deal and showed on my phone that these were qualifying items. I also offered to just not buy the items if the deal was not going through. I wasn't in any way wanting to cause any issues. They eventually gave me the correct deal, but not without eye rolls, a condescending tone of voice, and zero "have a nice days". I like this store, but I hope your self checkouts are open next time. I understand that these employees are miserable and don't want to be there. I try to be as courteous as possible, but I don't need this grief from your employees. Have a nice day.Update:I ran into this problem again. The system would not recognize the discounts, not only with the coupons on the app, but also with the PICK 4 deals. I had to correct the cashier twice with the discount issues. It's not his fault. Safeways system is just faulty.But this older gentleman was the definition of STAR EMPLOYEE. An actual employee who cares about the customers. He fixed the problems immediately. No issues, no attitude, no rudeness. I praise this man for being kind, courteous, and patient.Safeway needs to get their discount system working properly.And this location needs to open their self-checkouts earlier.

Nice, new location in Hercules. Well organized & very well lite interior. The parking lot is a bit of a challenge since people driving tend to focus on nothing but themselves & don't pay attention to what's going on around them. There's nothing that the store can do about that though. I have found that the staff at this location are quite helpful & rather considerate. In spite of how hard they work being short staffed. I really appreciate their service & good attitudes. I will shop here more often now.

Self Checkout wasn't reasonably fast at this store. A guy (African-American guy, likely in his 30s) was standing around not wanting to help for a few minutes while the light was blinking; he seemed to be looking for someone. It was a Saturday night in the 9pm hour, and I had a 50% off salad (the clerk has to check the item). Eventually, another employee checked me out; she (possibly Indian) may have been a manager. I shall not go back to that store.

Be attention and check if they applied all promos. They play a dirty game with distracted customers. Unbelievable for a big supermarket like Safeway. Watch out folks. I made a complaint and they return my money.

I had a negative experience at this location. I needed to pump gas, so I gave my 13 year old daughter $50 to go inside pay for gas. She came back and when I finished pumping, the pump stopped at $10. I then asked my daughter if she had given the cashier the entire $50, which consisted of 2 $20 bills and a ten. She said she had given it all to the cashier. I then went inside and confronted the cashiers, and they claimed my daughter had dropped the cash on the floor. As I started to interrogate them and told them I'd have the company check surveillance cameras, they said, "No problem, go ahead and pump the rest of your gas." That's pure dishonesty, and had I not done anything about it, they would've pocketed the $40. Safeway, know and check who you hire.

I am not big on leaving reviews but hoping this review will encourage this Safeway to do better. So many products such as yogurt, sour cream, eggs, even milk are on the shelves PAST their expiration date. We have had atleast three times where we had to return berries because they had fungus on them. We have talked to staff about this and clearly they don’t care enough to take food safety seriously since it continues to happen. Check your expiration dates and produce before buying!!

Rude customer service from the young cashier and bagger. It was my first time using the safeway app to scan bar codes on items to get a discount. I politely mentioned to the young girl during check out that I had a deal on the app from scanning the barcode and for some reason she gave me the most snarky attitude saying it'll show up. Ok sure thanks for letting me know but what's with the tone and stare? The last time I came to safeway to get a deal it didn't show up so I was concerned to have to go through that issue again and wanted to make sure they were aware of the deals upfront. The cashier and the bagger started talking about people with attitudes. No idea if they were referring to me or someone before, but it just sounded like gossiping. I get it. Good workers are hard to come by, but these young (high school?) girls need to learn some basic manners. These people were not professional at all and need more training in customer service.

The newest and most beautiful Safeway I've ever shopped! The store is always visually pleasing with wide aisles towering ceilings. Staff are friendly and approachable. Aaron in particular is always a pleasure to see.This is a full-service Safeway with fuel and a mini Quik Safeway. 👍

The grocery store is clean, efficient service. The flowers shop look fantastic, roses are fresh appealing the way was placed in the entrance door it made me smile, especially the beautiful orchids. The outdoor patio is perfect for relaxation while having coffee with friends. I enjoyed it while waiting for my ride.

The parking lot is a nightmare so if you manage to get into it, be aware that by the time you get back to your car, it’s gonna be beat up. I just bought blueberries there tonight and pay 799 for them. Open them up and they are full of mold. Shop at luckys

Nice, new, very clean and well organized store. Longer hours than some of their competitors (6am - midnite as I write this review). My only complaint is that it does seem a bit pricey. However, many items are on sale, so you can save a bit if you are flexible on brands.
