For Easter I got potato and macaroni salad at their deli. It was very expensive at 7 bucks for small containers. At that price you would think it would be at least edible. Had to throw it away it was so bad. I have never tasted such bad salads. I’m done going there. Wasted 14 dollars.

I want to say this store is better than no store at all up here, but I can't. It's okay for staples and dairy but beware of meat and produce. I don't even want to tally up the amount of money (and dinners) that have been wasted bringing home spoiled food from this store. After getting spoiled salad mix tonight I think I'll go hungry before I go to Mar-Val for a last minute ingredient. To be clear, there's nothing wrong with the employees. Matt and Troy (managers) have always been great as are most of the employees. I'd guess the problem stems from ownership. Who knows. After years of the same problems I don't expect them to ever improve. Holiday in Cool is about the same price wise but LEAGUES BETTER in terms of food quality.

Being one of only two grocery stores between Auburn and Placerville, Mar-Val is the smaller, family-run option. It has some options for products in each department and is well stocked always. The prices reflect the isolated location, but if you need something standard for your pantry, Mar-Val has it. The deli makes heat & eat dinners, bread and pastries. Cold drinks, floral department and cigarettes available here. Pretty much any basic grocery store staple, they have. Slow to get any non-typical flavors or styles, they at least have the original option. Mostly staffed with high schoolers in the evenings, but the senior employees and management have all been there for years and are very willing to help, accommodate and personalize your experience there, as well as being able to answer any question you can throw. Besides the 15-20% upcharge on products and standard selection, the welcoming atmosphere and reliability of this store makes it pleasant every trip, which is nice when its some folks only option! 3.5 ☆*I am a former employee, posting as an occasional customer.

Not a bad selection for a small 3 store chain in a very rural area. A little more spendy than the big chain stores but that's to be expected. Best thing for me is there is ALWAYS more than one cashier and/or bagger and rarely much of a wait, if any.

The deli is pretty good, but takes a while. My family gets all our holiday meats here and are never disappointed.

Since we live in a small, remote town, it's nice for picking up the essentials, but expensive to purchase groceries on a regular basis. Most of the staff there are friendly and helpful. The store is clean and the Deli makes pretty good sandwiches. The Deli also makes great chicken and tri-tip enchiladas!

Terrible selection with outrageous prices. They truly take advantage of the fact that their the only grocery store within a 45-60 minute drive in any direction. Their soda machines outside eat coins and are never stocked. They have terrible customer service. Their food isn't fresh. I can go on and on! I hate this store but it's my only option to shop here! Makes me very upset to spend $100 for a small dinner that will be shared between myself and my boyfriend. ONE MEAL! WTF!

Always friendly! The best part about Mar-val is the people who work there. The produce guy is AWASOME. Also last week one of the employees (Jenny) on their break time helped my wife and I jump start my vehicle. She was so sweet and kind to help us out. With a van full of puppy's she saved our day! Good job Mar-Val. We love Georgetown Mar-Val.

All the employees are usually nice but this one in particular today was extremely rude. I was standing in line behind this little old lady who had a lot of things and I didn't mind waiting but the cashier pushed my products and food all the way back pretty forcefully. I bought buns and they could have gotten ruined but no biggie. Another register opened up behind me and I was trying to be polite and let others go there ahead of me when no one showed up the man I was standing in line to get rung up by rudely told me to go to the next check out line. The other lady was very nice after that experience. I'm giving it four stars for her.

I love my local store more than any grocery I've been to before. The isles are clean and easy to maneuver, there is logical order to the placement of all the product on display, the cashiers are friendly and efficient, but most of all, I can be myself there with my kiddos and feel comfortable. I will drive here over many choices because the common claim of the store being part of the community really is true.

A huge selection of produce, meat, organics, specialty vegan items, wine, and other items compared to the local competitors. Customer requests are taken for specific items and most of the staff is incredibly helpful and friendly all the time. Mar-Val really takes care of the community on the Divide. They often have grab and go charity bags of food you can purchase for people in need for the various fires in CA and the holiday season on the Divide.A truly great place to shop and if you have a problem ask a manager and it will be taken care of the best way possible.

Been shopping here for 27 years. Expansion, added departments (organic, deli, some bulk items) have kept the store current over the years. Excellent efforts by management to respond to customer requests and comments and very supportive of community events. I find the prices to be very competitive overall with the larger grocery chains like Safeway and Raley's, although one can find better prices at discount stores like Grocery Outlet or Smart and Final if one is willing to drive 30 - 40 minutes. With the price of gas these days, I find shopping in Georgetown makes major economic sense. Some of the corporate decisions about store layout can make my eyes roll with irritation, but the local management and staff are awesome!

Great little store. They are very community-oriented and do all kinds of things to help. Tonight I went shopping at Mar Val then remembered some more stuff I needed to get and went shopping at Holiday Market in Cool. I found every item I bought at Mar Val, was cheaper in Cool. I don't know when this happened, because it used to be that Mar Val was cheaper.

The new manager has gone far to make this store a better place and it's working! We love marval but we wish they would fix the milk fridge. It doesn't run cold enough and our dairy products more often than not, spoil too soon. We do our big shopping off the Divide now since we've experienced this ongoing issue. They exchange it for us but it is tedious and why exchange inferior products for more inferior products? Sorry.

I mean you can't hate on the place if you live up there as its the only food market in the small town. The prices are too high. 1 single handicap cart that is on its way out. Other than that everything is cool. If you don't mind the high prices. Everything is well stocked. (Makes sense for people living in the mountains)

Mar Val is a very well stocked, clean local grocery store. I'm often impressed by the selection and quality available there. And on top of that, their prices are very reasonable. So grateful to have such a well managed, quality store in Georgetown!

Great local store on the divide to get your groceries. Pretty expensive (most likely due to location and the small grocery store chain), buy it gets the job done. The workers are generally very friendly and they will learn your face and name. Friendly neighborhood market.

I've been shopping at Mar-Val for more than 30 years and they have a good selection of foods for being a small chain. Even in the specialty types, vegan, organic, gluten free, etc. They have a deli, bakery, meat dept, full service.

For a smaller food store, it's actually quite impressive the quality of the products they have. The produce is top rate and even displayed attractively as is the wide variety of meats they carry. They have many marinated, skewered, or preseasoned meat items which are huge time savers. Even premade meatloaf blend. Prices are slightly higher than the big chains, but at least a $5 saving in gas closer. Stick to sale items mostly and it comes out close.

Mal-Val is our hometown grocery store! It has all the products that we need - and then some! The staff are locals, so it's old-fashioned neighborly service. On the occasion when we need some specialty item, we'll go down the hill, but we prefer to keep it local! They even had a generator during the PG&E blackouts, along with some other local businesses, which was very appreciated, especially when they lasted five days!I ask you: what more could you ask for in a local country market? Mar-Val rocks!

Love the convienance of this store, but cannot stand the fact that when I my groceries are being rung up there us no hi, hello , or how are you, and then they look up and say "bag?". That shouldn't be the first thing you say to a customer. Get it together. This is a problem with most, not all, employees at this particular store. Have a little pride.

Convenient location; Unfortunate for Georgetown residents that this store is extremely over priced. I am not in favor of a Dollar General; However, I can understand why residents may vote Yes for a more affordable market place.

I hate this place. Its gross. Its dirty, and its disgusting inside. Boxes have dust on them, the milk is often expired and the meat is of the lowest possible quality (they store brand everything so you don't know how crappy it is until you cook it and eat it). Its like nobody has bothered to clean or update this store since 1960. Its a sad and depressing place to shop.

They are a little pricey but much better than having to go down off the hill for everything. They take requests from customers for items to stock, which is pretty nice. They also have a deli that is open seven days a week.
