We stayed in 1 king room. Very spacious. Comfortable memory foam bed. Separate sink and vanity area from the bathroom. For an older hotel everything worked and very clean. Microwave mini fridge eating area and a double recliner. Cable with premium channels. Due to covid closure did not check out pool and hot tub. I would like to stay here again.

We stayed here one night and it was wonderful! Our road trip took longer than expected and we were late checking in, but I received a text with super easy instructions on how to get into the lockbox connected to our room and get our key. We had no issues finding our room and getting settled. The bed was so comfortable and the A/C worked great, it was pretty hot the day we were there so the cool air in our room was a nice break! We walked over to a small cafe and got breakfast and coffee in the morning, I loved how walkable it was to everything we needed. We were originally booked for two nights but once we saw those majestic redwoods we decided we just had to camp underneath them, we don’t have trees like that in Alabama:) They refunded our money and insisted it was no problem, I wasn’t expecting that, thank you so so much! This is an adorable motel with a family feel to it, we’ll definitely be back in the future!

I think they're trying to update this old motel but it's a long ways off from being done. It's owned by a small family. There are new comfortable mattresses and the rooms are quiet but the furniture is dilapidated and the carpet is old (but appeared clean) and the room is just dreary. The pool appeared to be nice but I think they would have been wiser to tackle the rooms first.

We stayed one night on a road trip (planned ahead), and the Sherwood Forest turned out to be a gem of a motel! Staff was really nice, room was clean, bed was comfy (the best night we had during the trip) and AC worked well without being noisy.It was very visible that a lot of care is put into keeping everything clean, the sheets and towels seemed brand new, coffee was respectable.Awesome value, located dead center of Garberville, next to the Avenue of the Giants and half an hour from Humboldt State Park!I honestly don't understand the low average rating, but maybe they worked on major improvements this year? Congrats if that's the case, keep it up :-)

Quaint motel, friendly staff. Clean room and comfortable beds. Decor is a bit dated if that matters to you. (It was fine for me). Great water pressure in shower and very hot water. Better shower experience than chain motels. Mini fridge and microwave in room. They have limited office hours but have protocols in place for late check in and early check out. I would definitely stay here again! (Stayed 1 night in November in double queen room)

We were pleased with our room. We had the family room with two bedrooms. Comfortable beds, updated comfy bedding, two mini-fridges in the room. Clean rooms. Quiet area. Quick to go coffee across the street. Would stay here again.

Clean, safe and welcoming! The staff and reception tipped the scales and made this place so attractive and accommodating. They allowed our yellow lab to stay, they offered local recommendations on where to eat and what to do. For the price and locality, wasn't expecting vegas style luxury, instead we received a quaint, clean and safe place to stay for two nights.If you're driving through this part of Northern California and need a place to sleep overnight or to refresh from a day at Shelter Cove, then the Sherwood Forest Motel is highly recommended.

Average motel, isn’t very awesome but I guess for a small town like Garberville it’s decent. Room smells of cigarettes, Bathrooms are not well lit, very dingy and dark looking. For a short one night stay it’s not bad, definitely highly priced for the quality. Three stars ONLY ONLY ONLY becoz the front desk lady was courteous and informative, Don’t Renee her name.Only assurance when you are checking in, that makes you feel it’s a safe space is the front desk lady. If not for her I would not have checked in and just felt the motel.

I would not stay at this place! I'm always happy to stay at hotels that are not chains but this place was so dirty. The coffee maker had grounds and mold in it, the bed had hairs on the pillowcase and the sheets were dirty, the floor had not been vacuumed the remote control didn't work, and the toilet didn't flush. The receptionist was nice enough but super spacey – she forgot to give me my drivers license back, gave me the wrong password for the Wi-Fi, and initially gave me the wrong room key ... if this would have been 40 or $45 a night I guess it would've been worth it, but at $90 a night I expected just a little bit more.

The pool and hot tub were closed. A clerk at the grocery store across the street told us that we should change motels (gulp).The room was old and creepy. There was definitely something going on outside at night. We survived our stay and now have a good story to tell...

This is a wonderful, vintage, single level motel. The rooms are grouped in several out buildings with no connecting hallways, so there is a feeling of privacy. But the place is in serious need of some TLC.The room smells strongly of cigarettes.The carpet is stained. The bed is lumpy and hard. Shabby is what it feels like. New flooring, curtains, paint would do the trick.

I am down here from the San Juan islands. I am the owner of Aurora painting company and do the painting at Heartwood mountain sanctuary. I know many people in the community and have a lot of business here. I am painting a giant house here in town and didn't want to commute to Heartwood so I called here and made a reservation and gave them my credit card. When we arrive at 7:30 after painting for 12 hours I had misplaced my driver's license. I went back to the job site to find it and it was under my seat. When we get back to the hotel at 8:15, I walk into the office and the girl at the counter calls the manager over and he tells me that the desk girl has a bad feeling about us and they won't rent to us. I ask her why and he changes his story to someone complained the last time I stayed here. Which I was alone and working years ago. He says none of that matters and they won't give us a room. I am polite and leave. My co worker goes in to inquire and is told someone complained about us this evening. I may have paint on me but I drive a nice Toyota sienna and I'm a quiet guy. I have never been refused a room at a hotel. I will never recommend this place to anyone and think the employees that we're working tonight made a bad judgement call and lost a good customer. If I owned this place I would consider finding people with better judgement to run the front desk.

Dirty room - the already nasty carpet had not been cleaned between visits and had visible dirt and dead bugs right when I walked in. Missing lightbulbs. Staff had an after-hours cell number that went to a full VM box. Wouldn't stay here again if it were free (and it certainly wasn't).To the owner's question: I stayed on 7/3/19 in room #36.

Despite some bad reviews we gave it a try and discovered a very clean and comfortable room, definitely a 3* Hotel. Breakfast is juice, coffee, muffins, waffles, bananas, cereals and oats, yoghurt and real milk, not bad!One remarkable thing was real ceramic mugs in the room, hitherto unheard of! Value here

The Sherwood Forest Motel is a lovely, inclusive place with clean rooms and an exceptionally wonderful staff. Tanner and the rest of his team were so kind and friendly that we're already looking forward to a return stay! Rustic, quiet, and incredibly charming! If you're able to attend the Sherwood's Pride in the Redwoods event, don't miss it!

I would give it no stars. Paid online and came from Midland,Texas and check in was posted as 2 o’clock. No one was there so we waited until 3:30 and still no one was in office. He paid online and had to call and ask for refund, and find another hotel!!! Apparently they don’t want any business because there were people outside waiting as well. Thanks for great customer assistance!!

So just checked in and will have to agree with the others that it's dated. However, the major flaw is the very very stained carpet. It either needs to be taken up completely or have some serious deep cleaning done to it. First impressions are crucial.

The Sherwood Forest Motel is a great bargain. Clean, quiet and a nice pool! Dave the operations manger is super nice and really wants to ensure a good experience. I recommend this place to all my friends looking for a place to crash when you’re going through Garberville.

Cute rustic motel. Very clean. Comfy beds. Good cable. Very welcoming and helpful staff. Quiet. Easy walk to stores and restaurants. Just needs some love with decor updates. Best place in the area!

This motel experience now won my NO.1 worst experience prize. The only reason I give them one star is because that there is no negative star option. We were on the way home form redwood national and state park. We went to the west western beside at first. But there is something wrong with their system and we had to pay cash. The west western asked for $140 for two queen-size-bed room with breakfast. I did not have enough cash with me. So we went to the Sherwood Forest Motel beside. They charged me for $100 with no breakfast.The room is super dirty and the window is broken which is still OK because we were so tired, we just want to sleep for a night. But the flush toilet is broken and kept sounding water noise for the dam whole night. And it is not the worst. Here comes the most magic thing for that room. In the morning 5 pm, the fire alarm sound with no reason. My whole family got up and got scared. I traveled a lot and this is the worst one for now at least.

Frightening. We had three rooms, one of which was very dated, but adequate. The second hadn't been updated since the early 90s and the third looked like it had to be left to preserve a crime scene from the 70s. All this for the bargain price of way too much. For all that, I've stayed in worse places.
