The fish quality n customer care are above n beyond! I only planned ordering a few cichlids but when I picked them up, I was flabbergasted by all rest that had not ordered. I had only one not make it but Joe did his best to get me a replacement n even within couple hrs it was packaged n shipped that very same night for overnight shipping! The very next morning fish was super healthy n colorful. I’d definitely be buying plenty more n highly recommend anyone here for any of your South American to African cichlids needs n wants! Thx again Joe!

I took a chance on California Cichlids and could not be happier that I did. You will not find a better, or more competitively priced, selection of Frontosa. There is also, often, a wide selection of Malawi Cichlids as well. The fish I receive are almost always larger than the size quoted when placing the order [the eye-biter pictured is close to 10"! I ordered a ' 7-8" fish'] I've included pictures of some of the fish I've received from Joe at California Cichlids. I cannot recommend this place strongly enough, and I gladly pay the large sum it costs to ship fish from California, to Virginia. Place an order, you will not regret it!

I ordered 3 groups of juvenile Mbunas for my daughter. The value and quality of their cichlids are excellent! You cannot find species and locality specific fish in our area. Mostly generic "Assorted African Cichlids" and for significantly more money. For a 10 year old on a budget, this was a great way to get a big group to help stock her larger tank in the future. She will eventually add them to her main tank. They are still too small but she loves being able to see them grow. She was so excited to unbox her first online fish order. She was so thrilled that they arrived safely and healthy. Living in CA was a plus because we got express shipping for a reasonable price. All in all, we will 100% be ordering again.

Also, there is a wide selection of some beautiful species at an affordable price. Fish always arrive very colorful and healthy. Top notch quality! Wow their fish are so absolutely gorgeous and colorful. I placed an order yesterday for two peacocks and they were here by one pm the next day, excellent communication, excellent packaging and bags with plenty of room for the fish to move around. I’m very impressed and extremely happy. They brought out the rest of the peacocks I have in the tank. Just a awesome experience to talk to Joe and he’s right there on texting or calling, he keeps an eye on your package and keeps you informed. Best experience so far out of 30 or 40 Mbuna’s and 10 peacocks that I’ve ordered from a few different breeders. I highly recommend California cichlids and Joe, you won’t be disappointed at all. 3/8/23 picked out three more peacocks and once again Joe didn’t disappoint, he sent me three beautiful fish. Their colors are amazing, they went right in the tank and started swimming with the rest of the fish, didn’t hide or anything just acted like they were at home. So once again I’m very happy and I’m sure that you will be to.

I just recently met Joe last month. Joes a great guy and very knowledgeable about African Cichlids and his love of fishing. I found some great pieces of Utah Lace Rock at a great price. I found some Buffalo head cichlids that I dreamed about owning probably 20 years ago. I also got several other quality fish that are already breeding. My son is also set up his tank and bought some Red Empress Split Gene. Looking forward to buying some more fish. Below is one of my favorite. Well I seen the name around for a while “California cichlids” and never bothered to contact them because I’m a nano fish person and I assumed he didn’t deal with anything other than cichlids but was I wrong and boy was my mind blown Joe is the guy you want to know in this hobby plenty of inventory from shrimp to eel he had it and don’t even get me started on his rock prices if it wasn’t close to his closing time and if I didn’t have work I would have spent wayyyy more defintly appreciate this guys operation it’s by appointment which is cool that way he’s right there with you answering questions or giving you game on new fish! Can’t even go inside to look. Joe was rude!Update: as you can see from his response Joe is rude, making insinuating comments about me and my puppy, that my dog was going to pee all over his shop? It’s a three-month-old puppy that I was holding the whole time. Joe came out very abrasive and not kind at all to a prospective buyer and customer. To prove my point of him being rude and disrespectful he Immediately sent me a very inappropriate text using profanity about my review. too bad I can’t post pictures or you’d get the screenshot. Maybe he was having a bad day 🤷🏽‍♂️. Feel better Joe.

I love my new fish that came in today 4 f1 eretmodus cyanostictus kipili red 2 pairs they was supposed to be 3' one is much bigger which is very cool I'm very impressed by the quality of this fish showing nice color in the bag and even more once started to settle in thanks a million joe will get more fish from u in there future.
