In the wake of the news of all 99 cent stores permenantly closing up shop, I decided to leave this review as less of an actual review per say, and more of an obituary and farewell to the store, and the chain in general.Ever since 1982, the 99 cent only stores have been a staple of discount shopping across the Western US, from the suburbs of LA to Downtown El Paso. It has served millions of people and has saved people hundreds of millions of dollars on utilities, groceries, snacks, etc., including here at this location alone.It has thrived for decades, but the 2010s and 2020s have not been kind to them. With COVID-19 ravaging the world, as well as rising costs, inflation, etc., it comes as no surprise to me that the chain is shutting down forever.The stores, including this one, have fallen behind in hygiene standards and the quality of products, as seen with the lower reviews over the years. This chain has been a giant on it's last legs for years, and now, it seems like it is going to sleep for the rest of it's days.If the owners see this message, I want to personally thank you for keeping this store operational. Ever since my family started coming here all the way back in 2011, we have saved thousands of dollars on groceries, supplies, etc.Now though, it seems like it is an end of an era for discount shopping in the United States, as the 99 cent only stores fade into history. On behalf of the tens of thousands of Fresno residents you have served over the years: Thank you, farewell.......and goodbye.1982-2024

Compared to other 99 cent stores, the variety of products offered here is odd. They had at least 6 types of adult toothpaste yet their only kids toothpaste was in a pack with a toothbrush that expired in 5 months (which means it has likely been on the shelf over 2 years). Their baby section contained nothing but wet wipes (no small spoons, teether, pacifiers, socks, diapers) just racks and racks of wipes.The store was fairly clean and the staff was friendly but the variety of items was odd compared to other stores, making it not terribly useful.

Has everything I need. Staff is friendly, place is clean n produce is fresh. Always a great place to stop n get snacks before a movie. Only thing is, everything has gone up. It shld be 99 n more store, but I still go n grab a lot of items.

I love this place its clean but this is the only 99 cents store that hasn’t improved the parking lot light they have retrofitted but that still dosent help this exact location needs to install led lights for the parking lot lights

Needs more open registers. Always has one or two with the lines down the isles. Too hard to shop, with people in the way. They have some good products but you can't return anything. Might as well shop where you can, just in case. 99 cents Only?? What good items are that price? The whole store once was, but those days are Long Gone .So sad.

Busy store today. Cashiers need to stay up front. Kept leaving too soon and then the 2 others would get a line 6 deep each. Took too long to come back & help. Not enough carts.

I needed Trash bags for downstairs restroom and I didn't know the size so I opened a box of 20 bags just to see if it would fit? And it did so I bought the opened box and another box which makes 40 bags altogether...99cents store only had 1 cashier and a big line waiting for her. She was very Patient w/ her Customers...

Not a fan of this place. Used to be a great place to do quick shopping. Now, you would only go there if you're desperate because it takes 1 hour to just get in line and pay for your things ( which is why i don'tgo there). I feel bad for the workers because they look like they hate their job there. It doesn't help too because there is only one line open and there are like 8 people in line.

They had so many Christmas toys already in Nov. The lines weren't too long but sometimes they do. They also have so many decorations for every holiday.

My wife and I found the store to be organized and clean. The restrooms were closed for Covid19 reasons. There were not many employees to assist shoppers who may have had questions. All the checkout lanes were busy, and our checkout person was courteous to us and the shoppers in front of us. I was disappointed with some customers in our checkout lane. They did not practice the 6 feet social distancing policy. Outside of that flaw, our shopping experience was enjoyable.

Sad I can't use there cart to take all my groceries to my car anymore. They don't allow you to walk out with the carts now.

This store seemed.neater than the last time I went.in to shop.I normally go to the one on Shaw in Clovis even tho the tax there is higher.It seems to be kept nicer than any of the others.

I love the 99cent store. I always enjoy going shopping there but I was disappointed with the cashier. I just had surgery so I'm dressed in pijamas but I needed to walk and since I needed somethings from the 99 my family and I went. When it came time to pay the cashier assumed I was paying with EBT. I was so offended even dough I know it's not a bad thing it's there for emergencies but still I was offended because she judge me by looks and my my 4 kids. I am an essential worker.I never stopped working. I was not allowed to stop people depend on me to help them.

They got more cashiers so there wasn't a long wait line. A few months ago and years before, they had only two cashiers and the check out lines were long. Good job on getting more cashiers.

Thought I might have a better experience at a different location. Not! Store is hot and lines are LONG! Only 2 registers open! Cashier just yelled for an employee from No Surrender and let him cut to the front of the line.

Lets start off with the good... it's amazing how 99¢ Store has come up. The inventory that you can find here is 75% - 90% off of regular retail stores. Unfortunately I have to say a few bad things that just recently encountered, your lines have been quite long and that's still with 3 staff working the registers. But the staff for the most part is very courteous. The security guard that you have is a bit, let's just say that he is lacking in the manners department. I understand he has a job to do but me, as a customer, who was very surprised to have someone come out of nowhere and get right behind you, I was perturbed. It wasn't until 30 seconds later that I realized he was doing recon in the card section. Also nobody needed to hear his conversation regarding not having the items he needed to do his job.

Checkout line were traditionally slow. The cashier was talking very casually with a customer while there were several people waiting. It seem not to effect her she continued to talk and move slowly. Just when you think ...great she's totalled up the amount...the women said oh I'm a dollar short....let me go to my car and get a dollar. To my surprise the cashier said ok! Without checking anyone else out, we waited and waited...the other people in line were very patient....she finally returns and gives her the dollar...and says oh wait I forgot something....and the cashier said ok..unbelievable! She totalled my amount and I left before I said something....while the rest of the customers again waited for this woman to retrieve something else in the store! I would have scored this experience at a one (1) if I hadn't had courteous and helpful staff previously.

I have been shopping at the 99cents store only store since 2006, it was a few block from my house at the time and I would walk there, almost daily I was addicted to it. But since they arent the same and if you are in Fresno this shouldn't be your first option. Its messy, stuff is always openned and you will find some "characters" in there. And if you do come to this one make sure you come before 11am and the good stuff is put out.

I will never go to that 99 cent again! The person with me and both got around 50 dollars worth and when went to check out there was a line of about 30 people! We tried to ask if would open another check stand and woman was exceedingly rude!Security personnel tried to soothe my anger but it wasn't his fault and he could do nothing! He was embarassed by her behavior!

While like a lot of bargain stores it is sometimes a matter of grabbing something while it is there because it might not be there long a lot of their brands remain the same. I prefer it over Dollar Tree as they carry produce & have a wider selection of items. Also as some items get near their expiration date you can get them 2 for a dollar or 4 for a dollar. Like today when I was there they have Crack an Egg 2 for a dollar. P.S. you can freeze this product & slowly thaw it out in the refrigerator overnight.
