Went to meet a cat to possibly adopt. They gave us a private room and brought her in. It's really nice to get some one on one time before deciding if we thought she would be a good match with us. She was and I'm happy to say I will be picking her up Tuesday đ. The staff were all super nice. I would like to add , and this is big reason I wanted to adopt from Sequoia Humane Society is they are a No Kill Shelter. Will share pics after I bring my sweet girl home

If you are missing a pet they will take your wanted/missing posters on a bulletin board. They have found pets there also so check with them about your pets for sure cause most people won't turn them in they will hold the pet and hope the owner is found.

Had a great time working with Sequoia Humane Society. We found our perfect little Nugget(aka Lotus), to join the family. The application process was simple to do online with a quick response via phone about our approval. From there it was great being able to make arrangements to facilitate meetings with potential candidates. My son's ASD and sensory processing make it difficult to go into the pen area, the staff was very nice and helpful making alternative options available. I kept up to date on the available adoption list, looking for someone who fit what we were looking for in a new family member/therapy companion. From there I called in adding our names to the lists of everyone we were looking at. Within a few months we found our sweet girl and could not be more happy.

I spent 40 years waiting for my best friend. On May 1st of 2012, somehow the planets aligned and the fine folks at Sequoia Humane introduced me to my rescue-er and best friend. This dog was then called Treasure, just turned 2 and had already been given up to the Humane Society twice. I later learned he was called a âproblem pupâ and was the only dog that ever climbed out of their kennel. It wasnât only waiting 40 years and the astrological alignment of planets that brought us together. It was the experience, knowledge, expertise and skill of the staff at Sequoia Humane. They knew this dog was insecure and suffered from separation anxiety. He is a beautiful animal and a lot of the wrong people would have been easily tempted to take him home where he would have failed again. When I contacted the Sequoia Humane Society about him, I explained that I am an adult single man who wants a dog as a 24 / 7 companion. And further, that there would be no other animals in our home.I was encouraged to meet âTreasureâ.I still remember driving 3 hours to Eureka and meeting a dog that was pretty reserved, until he knew he was leaving. It has been 7 fantastic years. Treasure has been renamed Einstein and is the best friend I have ever had. Einstein is with me 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. AKC âgood Citizenâ, extraordinarily well behaved. Flies with me. Loves other dogs. When I see a review from someone who was not offered the animal of their dreams, I really hope people will realize the extraordinary importance of matching the right animal with the right people. A bad match - even with good intentions - is just cruel. The process canât be easy or perfect but I can not thank the fine staff at Sequoia Humane for my best friend, Einstein. They nailed this match 100% .

Sorry to say they were understaffed and curt when trying to get help on rehoming of my pups. When the personnel found the time to put my Smokey on the website for private adoption it was short and brief. Compared to others it was just plain Sad. Update Smokey finally found his forever home đĄ.

Any place that tries to preserve the life of an animal has to get at least a couple Stars, but when my family and I tried to save two cats from this place they basically slapped us with a bunch of rules, piss poor attitude, and a nonchalant...didn't care attitude whether we save them or not. The lady behind the counter at that time was extremely rude and seemed like she took her personal life to work with her and took it out on other people. Most of the staff here is friendly though and our trying to donate their time to help. If you go here be prepared for the unexpected parts of helping. We ended up saving approximately $300 by saving a little kitten, for free, from underneath a bush whose mom got ran over by a car. No matter how you go about it saving/preserving the life of another living organism is a precious act.PLEASE don't let this post deter you from going there and seeing if you can help another creature out!!!!!

Expecting an animal shelter to look like a posh 5-star hotel, or to be 100% unbiased when it comes to who "gets" a certain animal, is unrealistic. It's a system that is always short on funding, and that attracts prospective owners with very high expectations just waiting to be dashed. Back in 2011, I went through about a months' worth of waiting and choosing before we found the perfect fit...and, yes, I got very lucky, and ended up with a sweet one-year-old shepherd mix named Coco (now Coconut, heh). I am personally thankful for the work done here, and I hope to give back via volunteering this year, as my great dog turns 7.

The problem with the approach of using a waiting list is when I saw a dog that was new to their shelter, I was told that there are many people who are looking for animals, and I was told that I would have to wait so â other PEOPLE could have a chance first â. That it was not a first on the list necessarily, but I could call back later to see if I could see the dog, & I was not able to greet the dog outside the cage today either. The dog was there a month before adapted. I was able to adapt a dog from the Sheriff shelter on the same day and not wait ..

If your looking for help with paying for getting your Cat or Dog fixed, Sequoia more than likely will help pay with setting you up with a voucher. Make an appt. Bring proof of income, I.D. that's it. Fill out of Couple papers and your done.I'm going to Eureka Humboldt Pets to get my cats fixed and told me that Sequoia Humane Society can help pay up to 70% the cost when I asked for help. The staff was very kind and helpful. They also have adorable pets that would love to be adopted. Located just off 101 Humboldt Hill

I went into the shelter to inquire about adding another pet to my one dog family....a slim, dark haired woman was very abrupt and told me I could not bring my dog into the kennel area. I did not ask to do this, I simply said we wanted to check into adopting a pet. She was very abrupt and NOT welcoming or friendly, to the point of being rude. It seems you don't want or need any donations from me.Unfortunately for you I am generous with my charitable giving. I am moving to Euerka from Seattle, but will not visit your facility again.

Everything looked clean and the staff was very nice. My friends and I got to play with some puppies! They were so cute! And we got to play with them as long as we wanted. We asked for a tour and we were given one no problems. It's clear how much the animals are cared about. I was surprised to learn that they had some purebred German Shepherd puppies! The breeder just wanted out. We had a great time!

We went to the Humane Society for over a month before we found our puppy, Daisy. Every visit, the staff was warm, welcoming and helpful. The pets were obviously loved and cared for. Our experience was wonderful and we are thankful for their help in getting us our new family addition.Heather

Great no kill shelter. My wife, son and I volunteer there walking dogs. The animals are well cared for by a dedicated staff. I'm not sure why other people are complaining about their adoption policies, it's a very straight forward process. If you fill out the paperwork beforehand you have priority over other people who haven't done so, even if they put a hold on the animal. I'm guessing this might be the reason for the bad reviews. The staff has always encourage us to do the paperwork ahead of time in case there is an animal we may want to adopt.

The staff was very nice and genuinely love what they do! The first pet I was interested in was not meant to be. But Gee Gee was available at the right time, it all worked out the way it was meant to be. I understand how some people will be disappointed but the dogs all appear to be healthy and we'll cared for and that is the most important part. The animals.

We have adopted from Sequoia a few times over the years. Their caring and service of and to the animals is genuine, protective, professional and personal. You bring a well cared for orphan home when you choose your new family member, and you feel that all during the process. The staff is knowledgeable and most interested in placing their charges with the appropriate adopters. Thanks SHS we are greatful... Violette & Ava & their humansđ»

Incredibly disorganized. We inquired about a dog and were told by their employees that we would be put first on the list for the puppy if our application was approved. We quickly filled out the application and after checking back after a weeks time we were told they couldn't locate our application. They offered to call us back without asking for our number in case our application couldn't be found. Our application was eventually found and there was a discrepancy that needed to be cleared up, but instead of confirming the information our application was just in limbo. After all said and done our application was approved and now we are being told that we are not first on the list, but will be among others interested in the puppy. We were told once the puppies were neutered/spayed that we would receive a phone call to come visit the puppies. No such phone call and the puppies started disappearing from the website. Horrific customer service.Of course it is more about giving these pets a good home but don't expect much from that staff.

Wonderful organization that helps a lot of animals find their forever homes. The staff can be a little scattered, but they have a lot going on all the time so its understandable. They care about the animals that they have adopted out and always welcome adoption updates or for you to visit.

Dreary in appearance in the area bythe.dogs. Very nice staff & front office. Several dogs were cowering on the day we visited but all looked well cared for. Time was taken to have us fill out an application for their waiting list & they did call us back re: one of the dogs that bece available. Have heard good things about then from others as well. Doing a great service for our community

I will never adopt from a shelter thanks to this place. Shelters like this one sadly make puppy mills stay in business..They overcomplicate the adoption process and seem very biased on who is allowed which dog. The employee I spoke with seemed annoyed for having to call me back after an inquiry on the status of a puppy and advised they are basically back logged about 250 applications. Well if there are that many applications shouldnât the shelter be empty unless they have more than that number of pets currently, which insât that the goal?...to have empty shelters?? It doesnât appear so which leads me to think itâs a monetary motive above the quality of life for the animals.. The employee I spoke to advised me that âyou may express interest in a specific dog during your consultationâ but there are no guarantees you will get that dog, claiming that they try to place the right dogs with the right people (it seems like they are just really biased of who gets what dog). I understand making sure a dog is the right fit for the owner but this place is way overkill on the adoption process. Sequoia Humane Society how about you let the potential adopter decide if the pet they pick out is a good match or not. I highly recommend everyone to go through puppyfind.com to adopt a new family member. You wonât have to jump through hoops like you would with this shelter only to be disappointed that you canât get the dog you really wanted because someone else doesnât think you qualify. Animal shelters everywhere need to re-assess their adoption process with a more humbled outlook.

Unfortunately, puppies are very popular, and not everyone who wants one gets one. The staff do a fantastic job with limited resources, and should not be faulted for an occasional error (assuming this is what it was). Sometimes, landlords or vets don't get back with information promptly; and, yes, sometimes applications get lost in the shuffle.I'm sorry to hear that Stephen had a bad experience, but I can assure you that the vast majority of people who deal with the Sequoia Humane Society find them very friendly and professional. And without their work, there would be a whole lot more cats and dogs without homes.

Volunteered here with my son for his 8th grade community project - one of the ladies was wonderful, but the rest were so rude. We missed a month due to me having finals and working a lot - and when we returned, they accused us of sneaking in lol. Basically I stood there while four ladies yelled at me because they couldn't locate my initial papers - thankfully the other lady stepped in and apologized, then looked us up just fine.Went back twice after that and they didn't have any animals we could help with both times, so we went to the fortuna shelter which was friendlier and far more open about having animals walked, petted and played with, etc.

No kill shelter, clean and pretty well staffed. They have nice dogs and cats. This is a good place to volunteer and help your community. They always can use more help.
