Cannot say enough about the Elk Store !! I travel all over as a truck driver and stop at places from the east to the west coast. Stopped here on a little drive up the coast and found a GEM ! From the owners immediately greeting you to the amazing variety of items I knew I was in a special place. Ordered the 4 mule sandwich which was DIVINE !! Outside seating on picnic tables or for the more active you can walk literally 100 yards to one of the most amazing views also with picnic tables overlooking the coastline. What a great atmosphere ! Pricing was perfect for what you are getting. A small business catering to people running at a different pace than the big city. Thanks again !!!

This historic, classic General store, offering a broad range of assorted sundries and fresh, sublime sandwiches from the deli and a sampling of souvenirs is perfectly perched high above and across the street from Greenwood State Beach. This nostalgic, rustic yet modern convenience shop, located in a charming country location. is an essential visit on your peaceful, northern California coastal drive.

According to the sign, it is voted best store on earth! I would agree. It’s a very good store, and the sandwiches are pretty great! They are made to go, and they have a lot of other necessities especially if you’re on the road or going camping. The staff is very friendly and the store is very clean.

A fantastic spot to stop in for an amazing sandwich, some snacks that you won't find other places, a frosty beverage, or some wonderful coffee mugs that have been hand thrown. Don't miss this spot, The people are amazing, the owner is communicative and educational, and the selection is amazingly huge for the small store that it is. Definitely a must stop. It's across the street from a big parking lot for a wonderful beach with a medium-sized hike down, I say medium size but it'll take you 5 to 10 minutes and is worth the hike. The beach is fantastic, but the little store is definitely the star here.

Stumbled onto Elk Store by chance on our roadtrip. Enjoyed chatting with the owner and family about local wines. The wine selection is much higher quality than many other local stores within 50 miles. Really appreciated the advice and service.

Wonderfully curated general store with topNotch sandwiches. Highly recommend the Bahn Mi with house smoked pork belly and the four hot mules panini will leave you in a daze and stay in your mind for days. Great vegetarian options. Solid breakfast menu. Baked goods out of Fort Bragg bakery. Full section of meats from Roundman’s smoke house. Wines are well curated with an excellent selection from the top small producers. Staff are welcoming and they have a few picnic tables out front or take it down to the Greenwood beach. 10 minutes from Navarro river state park for those looking to pack a killer picnic.*** sandwiches are so good that taking pics are always an after thought. Will update soon.

BIG disappointment!Sandwiches are WAAAYOVERPRICED for what you get. My friend was charged an extra $3 for a gluten free tortilla substitution and 20% more on top of the total tab for two more. $$$I ordered a tuna melt and it had more butter than tuna.My blind mother put more tuna on my sandwiches!$6+ for a small 8oz bag of chips. My first time there my last time there. My suggestion, pack a lunch. On the bright side..the gals were polite.

Very good, freshly made sandwiches. The store has limited grocery choices, but what is available is good quality. Their sliced bread is the best I have had. We ordered sandwiches then went across the street on the benches along the trail to the beach and had a pic nic.

Great fresh sandwiches, wraps, burritos etc. Excellent range of organic produce, some interesting gifts, and decent craft beer and wine selection too. Topped off by a super friendly helpful guy and this place is top notch, a must stop on HW1.

Seriously one of my favorite places to stop on the south coast. The best torta I've had. I also find amazing gift and really unique food items every time we stop.

This place is amazing! It's got everything. Get yourself one of their delicious paninis. They stock so much local wine, fruit and veg. Oh check out the local pottery too! We love Elk.

So over priced. Interesting selection of merchandise but my $12 caprese sandwich was literally 3"x4"and about 3/8" thick. I think they used the bread ends to make it. You order at the register and pay when you order or I'd have told them to keep it . So, we dropped $98 for 2 sandwiches, a small puck of cheese, about 8oz of salami, 2 cookies, a loaf of very very crusty bread and a $14 bottle of wine (the wine was the best deal). Most of the stuff is not priced so buyer beware!

The Elk Store is the perfect stop for food on the way up or down the Mendocino Coast. The store has an impressive selection of pantry items and local provisions (including wine & beer from the area), plus some amazing sandwiches. Take one across the street for a mid-road trip picnic stop at Greenwood Beach. We got married at Cuffey's Cove this year and worked with Sean and his team at the Elk Store to provide sandwiches for a few casual wedding weekend events. Our guests all raved about these. Sean was so great to work with and even had the breakfast sandwiches/paninis packaged in a container that kept them warm after hours of sitting out at the beach. Thank you so much, Sean! One of the best wedding weekend decisions we made. We can't wait to stop back into the store next time we're in town.

The store has an old world charm with modern products nicely displayed. Nice selection of local wines and the deli sandwiches are excellent! Just a few minutes wait for a delicious panini pressed hot sandwich and the guys that run the store love what they do! Elk Store is now a regular stop for my family when passing through. Just across the street is a lovely park with picnic tables and beach access.

Best sandwiches on the coast. Great owners and staff, amazing vibes. Everything is as local as they can be. I might be biased because I live here, but I love the Elk Store and recommend it to anyone who is driving by!Pro tip: if you want a sandwich and your in a rush, call ahead and order one. They take their time at the Elk Store, every sandwich is hand crafted with love. You will find the time they take in every aspect of the store results in high quality all around.

The sign says dangerous roads ahead, have a sandwich. Do. The croissant toast croque monsieur was stellar. A perfect cup of coffee. Excellent local appellations. Charming staff. Why not gird oneself for an adventure? I did and my tastebuds told my waistline to just enjoy it. Need more be said?

Not much along the north coast CA 1 but this is worth stopping at. We arrived about 30 minutes before they opened, but my wife really wanted a sandwich for lunch so we hung out at the beach til they opened. I'm glad we did. The two people working were very friendly and helpful with answering any questions and with suggestions. They carry a lot of great beer, local wine, and organic products. The sandwiches are very reasonably priced, especially considering how isolated they are. We grabbed 2 of their signature sandwiches, some local products, and a beer. When we stopped on the beach about 2 hours later the sandwiches hadn't gotten soggy and were still fresh. Both were pretty hearty and very good. I'd highly recommend stopping in here either for local goods or their food. I know next time we are in the area we will stop in again!

Delicious deli sandwiches. Take them to go and eat socially distanced at the beach across the street. I recommend the Ruben, but haven't had a bad one. Great sundries selection, and tasty wines and other beverages.

We did a coastal riding trip to Fort Bragg and knew we needed to stop based on the previous reviews. We grabbed a custom sandwich - smoked turkey on sourdough and some of the pasta salad (and a huge jug of water for our trip) and headed down the road to glass beach. The sandwich was good. I will give it 4.5 stars. The staff was great. So why the 5 star rating? The overall experience was great. But the stand out was the pasta salad. They should sell this stuff by the bucket loads.OMG! Best pasta salad I’ve ever had. My only complaint is the little portion is a tease. I want a bigger portion after tasting it. I almost went back the 50 miles for more. The ginger cookie was really good too.Overall, it’s worth a stop. Eat there or take for a near by picnic - I would recommend this as a good stop on the HWY 1, in either direction.

An amazing place! If you ever rent a home nearby, you don't need to bring any food, just load up here. Excellent, smart high quality selection (what small store in a dinky town is going to have fresh miso?!) Helpful and cheerful people run this place and make amazing sandwiches and other fresh food daily....plus deliveries from all sorts of great vendors from bread to coffee to eggs to cheese. We've even picked up a bunch of gifts to bring home, as well as wine and craft beer for our trip. LOVE IT!!
