Breathtaking views, relaxed but private ambience, exceptional food. My newlywed wife and I passed through on our honeymoon for 3 nights and stayed at the Bavarian cottage. We were taken aback just walking in with a full spread of charcuterie and wine complete with background jazz/classical music. The view from our room was so good we barely ventured too far. 10/10 sunsets. The breakfast was delivered and sublime every morning. 45 minutes from Anderson Valley wine country. The grounds might as well be a botanical garden, amazing.A grand first stop on our honeymoon. Thanks Melissa for your personal level of concern for us while we were there.

Where to start... If you are looking for a sleek, ultra modern Inn this is not the place for you! If you are looking for an Inn with personality (we had the Frank Drew room), beautiful views, fabulous food (1st class), personal service, romantic setting, beautiful gardens, 1st rate staff, all the usual amenities, near to everything Mendocino, an intimate restaurant (did I mention the fabulous food!), then this is your place. Our check-in Host, Ricky, was so personable, friendly, and accommodating, he walked us to our room and the magic began when he opened the door to our room, and we were welcomed by soft warm lighting, the fireplace on, soft landscape music playing, our wine and cheese plate ready to munch on, the night stand lights on, and a great view! Warm, cozy, robes also, await. It only got better from there for the next two days! Breakfast (made to order) is served hot to your room each morning (huge menu), with way more than you can eat, and dinner, made by the famous chef, is top notch cuisine! His lovely wife, and co-owner, greets you and is ready to explain anything you want to know. Be sure to seek out the lighted secret stairs to the beach for a cool experience! We just can't say enough great things about this place. I only wish we had booked more nights in advance, but who knew how great this place was going to be. We will definitely be coming back for a much longer stay! Be sure to carefully read the website to learn about breakfast, and dinner, ordering procedures, as the dining room is only open on Thursday thru Sunday. Grab and Go dinners are available the rest of the week (and are well worth it!). Dinner can also be served in your room. YOU MUST STAY HERE!!!

We recently spent 2 nights in an ocean-front cottage. The cottage had everything we needed. We enjoyed our room service breakfasts, everything from the eggs benedict to yogurt was delicious. The grounds and gardens are lovely. We enjoyed watching the sunset with the humming birds. The location is perfect for exploring the beaches and the forests. We would definitely stay here again!Rooms: Our room had a fire place, microwave and mini fridge. There were complimentary snacks and wine in the room. There was a tub in the bathroom. There was a Keurig coffee maker with plenty of k-cups and tea too. We appreciated the coffee creamer in the mini fridge, much better than the powered creamer you typically get in hotel rooms.Food & drinks: Be sure to make dinner reservations here early in the day. Breakfast is ordered the day before.

I thought I'd treat myself to a weekend break in Elk. After a long but amazing drive from San Jose and a super friendly check-in, I was treated to much needed complimentary chocolate and a little carafe of port! Just what I needed. There's a beautiful beach just a few minutes walk away. It might be a bit of a tricky walk for some, but well worth it. I was lucky enough to have a cute little cottage room that overlooked the beach and provided an amazing view of Elk Rock. There's a lovely feeling of calm and the hotel gardens are full of amazing flora. Oh! And there are dogs - friendly and happy to show some affection.I was already happy enough, but the best was yet to come. When I was there, Elk Cove Inn had arranged a "winemaker's dinner". We (the guests) were treated to champagne and cocktails before a truly amazing meal with hand-picked wines for each course. It was lovely to share a meal with the other guests (I was traveling solo), chatting, eating, and generally enjoying life.I felt sad to leave - the staff, the ambience, and the location are all fabulous. Thank you!More

Beautiful little bed and breakfast on the Mendocino coast. We visit this place at least once a year. Steps lead to a walkway to the beach. The breakfast is the best part of the day. Freshly made and brought to your room. They also have dinner but need reservations. The menu changes often.Rooms: Rooms are spread out across the property. Some are ADA friendly. We stayed in a room with great view.

We greatly enjoyed our two night stay at the Inn. Beautiful grounds. Amazing views. Our lovely room was well appointed with a balcony overlooking the ocean. The beach was just a footpath away. We brought our dog, who was welcomed with dog blankets, treats and dish. Breakfast was delivered to our room each morning. We ate both dinners at the Inn. Food was fantastic! The hosts were very welcoming and helpful We look forward to returning soon.Bob & Tere

There is something magical about the Elk Cove In and Spa! Melissa and Victor are incredible hosts, always kind and welcoming. We have stayed in the Bavarian Room twice and the view is mesmerizing and magnificent. If you want a peaceful calming place to spend time with fantastic food, the Elk Cove Inn and Spa is the place to go. They also have access to the beach with is a beautiful added bonus!Nearby activities: Elk is a quaint small town on the coast, but it is near Mendocino and Ft. Bragg. You can relax or see all of the sites.

We have been staying here since 2017, often several times a year. Every trip is truly spectacular. As soon as we get out of the car there, we immediately relax and start walking on clouds. All our cares, stresses, worries are gone. The rooms and suites are clean, well appointed, with a generous basket of goodies. The bed is amazing and our friend who stayed there said they were the softest sheets she ever slept in.The walk to the beach is short and fun and worth the trip. Spectacular views every where. The breakfasts are always delicious and one could NOT ask for friendlier, more helpful staff. Victor and Melissa are THE BEST!Elk Cove Inn Rules!Rooms: Well appointed, homey, and soooooo relaxing.Safety: Very isolated and quiet. Very safe.

Elk Cove Inn is the ideal "get away from it all" retreat on the Northern CA coast. The rooms are large and beautifully done, the view is just incredible, and the dinner was spectacular each night. Melissa does an amazing job of making you feel at home while you are there, and her husband Victor is a French trained Chef providing world class dinners each night. We had the L.E. White room with the deck overlooking the cove, and fell asleep each night to the sounds of the ocean. Perfection.Rooms: We love the L.E. White and Sam McCanse junior suites as you are upstairs with an incredible view of the coveFood & drinks: One of the highlights about staying at the Elk Cove Inn is the food each day. Breakfast is amazing, and dinner is dining at a world calls French restaurant. We loved the Cassoulet, the Boeuf Bourguignon, and the Coq au Vin!

We had the most relaxing and comfortable stay at the Elk Cove Inn recently. In truth, we know the Elk Cove Inn well because we were married there 32 years ago in August and have come back frequently for our anniversary. This time, my husband was the host for a wonderful food and wine dinner that featured Flambeaux Wine from Dry Creek Valley, that paired wonderfully with Creole and Cajun-inspired food prepared by Chef Passalacqua. Throughout the dinner, each wine and food pairing were expertly guided by Melissa, Victor's wife and a Certified Sommelier and Wine Educator. The view of the sunset from the dining room, and the warm camaraderie with our fellow diners made for a magical evening. Our room, Wave Watcher, looked out over the gazebo where we were married, the beach and coastline. Little touches like delicious homemade cookies, a bottle of wine, popcorn and chocolates and port, along with a big comfortable bed, luxurious robes and a huge walk-in-shower and deep soaking tub set this apart from any room we have stayed at in the area. At arrival we had placed an order for a gourmet breakfast that was promptly delivered at our requested time the following morning. We so enjoyed our breakfast in the room with great coffee, tea, homemade pastries, eggs, sausage and potatoes. Elk Cove Inn now has its own greenhouse garden, a spa and a nice firepit and a wider array of rooms to stay in. We always walk down to the beach on a private path and enjoy the beautiful coast and remember our happy day here so long ago.

I surprised my fiancé with an unexpected stay at elk cove inn. To say she was ecstatic would be an understatement. Ricky at the front desk was extremely nice and welcoming. We stayed 2 nights in the greenwood room and falling asleep to the sound of the ocean and waking up to the sunrise casting itself on the waves was magical. The cute little restaurant and the most delicious food as well. I could go on and on but if you get a chance I highly recommend checking this cozy little place out

We are members at the Elk Cove Inn and we thoroughly enjoy each visit there. It's a quaint hotel with a private beach access and great food options! There are many rooms with a view of the ocean but they also have a deck and a cafe overlooking the ocean for the guests staying in non-view rooms. There is free hot breakfast with a room reservation and it's by far the best hotel breakfast I've had in the US.Nearby activities: Private beach access.Food & drinks: They have a restaurant at the hotel that has really good food!

When you first pull onto the property, you’ll see the beautiful landscaping. And I don’t just mean a few flowers – I mean they have a full, colorful garden that you walk through and enjoy. There’s also a deck for you to sit, eat a picnic, play cards, or whatever you like while you enjoy the views. The gazebo is also a great, romantic spot on property to watch the sunset while drinking a nice glass of wine from one of the many local wineries. After getting checked in and meeting Bella (one of the unofficial mascot dogs), I was shown my suite. Now, I will tell you – and the owners agree – that this is not 5 star accommodations. If you’re looking for the most modern of spaces to lay your head, this isn’t it. But what you will find is a clean, eclectic space that’s made up of thrift store furniture and meaningful touches. For instance, the suites are each named after a local historical figure from Mendocino County. And on the wall, you’ll find a little information about that person and their contributions to the area.A lot of thought has gone into making these suites your home away from home, but the best part by far is the view. Right outside your window, or stepping out on your balcony, you see the stunning cliffs of the Northern California coast as far as the eye can see of the Pacific Ocean. It’s breath-taking. And that sunset – oh man, it’s absolutely mesmerizing.Melissa and Victor are the heart and soul of the Elk Cove Inn & Spa, and they were the best part of this stay for me. I so admire the way they lovingly care for their staff, animals, and the people they serve. Their commitment to the ingredients they use, the people they employ from the community, and their work ethic is unmatched. And they serve every single guest with a genuine smile and compassion. They truly want you to enjoy your stay – you’re not just another line item for them.

I am writing this review for my husband and me. We have stayed here many times, were married in the gazebo 14 years ago, as well as eating at Sibo for our 14-year anniversary, which was heavenly. Melissa and her husband run a wonderful Inn and adding their skills to their French restaurant has made it an even better place to stay. It has just improved more and more over the years. Go see for yourself.Rooms: So many to choose from!Food & drinks: Exceptional food!!!!

Fabulous experience! Our suite was beautifully appointed. Quiet and restful. The view is spectacular. It was hard to leave the room, very content and had everything we needed. The grounds are beautiful with beach access. The staff... So welcoming, laid back, but on anything you need. The bed was very comfortable, too. The included room service breakfast everyday was fantastic as well as it dinners from Sibo restaurant in site. It was so relaxing listening to the waves all night. This place is pure heaven! We can't wait to return!!!

Great place for a remote/relaxing getaway. It is pet friendly, which is great if you want to bring your pet. There is an easy pathway to the beach as well. The hotel restaurant was great and there are other great dining options about 15 minutes away by car. The staff is great and will work to accommodate all needs. Definitely recommend.

My family and I had a fantastic visit. The Inn is situated in a beautiful location, overlooking a beautiful cove from up high on a bluff. The rooms are lovely, with amazing views and the sounds of the ocean coming in through the window. The staff is friendly and helpful, and the breakfasts are delicious. I look forward to visiting again soon.

The views of the ocean and the property gardens were breathtaking. The bed was exceptionally comfortable. The breakfast was truly delightful! And the service was impeccable. The only room for improvement I would suggest would be to provide bottled drinking water in the room (maybe instead of the decanted wine) and a different selection of meals in the restaurant (We are not fans of casserole types of meals or the other items listed). But we will be back!Thank you so much for a divine stay. ❤️

Lovely place, delicious food, and wonderful staff. We stayed here for our anniversary several years ago and returned a couple of weekends ago. Enjoyed a candlelit dinner the first night at Sibo, the on premises restaurant: intimate dining, hearty and immaculately presented meal, and warm and hospitable service by Chef Victor and Melissa. Dinner needs to be ordered beforehand (by noon) because they run a zero waste kitchen, but I appreciate the thoughtfulness of that approach and frankly it just added to the anticipation during the drive up from the Bay Area. Our room was lovely with a nice view, and the staff had prepared it with some nice touches. Breakfast served to the room each morning was perfect. And there's a nice trail, which is wondrously lit at night, down to a private beach. We'll definitely be back again!

This place in 4 words: calm, beautiful, relaxing, comfortable. The Inn is perched high above a long beach filled with interesting driftwood. It is in a garden setting, so you are always surrounded by flowers, butterflies, and birds like the blue jays who appeared outside our balcony every day. The rooms, especially the Sam McCanse room, are cozy, clean, and comfortable. Sleep was easy in the King-size bed, the room was always warm, clean, and airy. The service was warm and competent - really superb. The western view yielded gorgeous sunsets. And one of the best parts is the location: far away from the stress of civilization, but close to the pleasures of wineries, hiking redwood forests, and other outdoor activities like sea kayaking.

This is the perfect romantic hideaway! The room was beautifully crafted with an amazing ocean view, they provided so many details and attentions to the guests (port, wine, chocolate cookies…) A delicious breakfast was served in the room. We loved the setting on the cove and the beauty and tranquility. Let’s not forget the wonderful restaurant on location.

An absolutely wonderful experience. Ricky and the crew made our vacation fabulous. The room was amazing--beautiful views of the ocean, the rocks, and the waves, but completely quiet. The room was stunning, probably 300+ square feet, with lovely furnishings and decor. The bathroom was huge and well stocked with everything one would need. And breakfast? Omelettes essentially made to order...eggs cooked a half dozen ways...parfaits...croissants...fruit...muffins...skillet potatoes...juice, coffee, tea, on and on. Most days I ate breakfast and did not eat again until dinner. I guarantee you will NOT want to leave!

Beautiful location, with friendly staff and a gorgeous view. Room staging and service were impeccable! We arrived late in the evening to a warm and welcoming room - staged with a glowing fire, soft music, a nightcap and chocolates. The room was full of delightful little treats, and the kitchenette had a well-stocked coffee/tea bar. The furniture and bed were comfortable; the environment was authentically down-to-earth (and genuinely cozy). It's not a modern "5-star" hotel - but the cottage and everything inside of it was obviously well cared for.We didn't get to use the adorable picnic package, as it rained the entire weekend - but we look forward to it next time! Even in dismal weather, the surrounding grounds and beach are quite lovely. We didn't feel at all sad about spending the weekend curled up indoors, enjoying the excellent room service, and each other's company.Thank you (sincerely!) to the amazing proprietors and staff, who went out of their way to accommodate us. It was a much-need retreat. Our stay was quite perfect, and we'll definitely be back. ❤️Rooms: Well-appointed, impeccably clean, spacious, and comfortable. This is not a modern facility, so there are some cosmetic "bumps and dings" - but nothing that affected the functionality or comfort of the space.Food & drinks: Both room service and the restaurant serve fresh, high-quality foods - many of which are grown on-site. The chef was incredibly accommodating, and got us in for dinner (even though it was entirely our fault that we missed the reservation window).

Elk Cove Inn is an exquisite oasis on The Ca. coast. We discovered the area 30 years ago by accident and come back every year, from New York, to experience the magnificent unspoiled beauty. The Inn is a perfect place to shut down your brain and all electronics and enjoy pure nature and solitude. The staff is wonderful, the rooms are lovely with spectacular mind blowing ocean views and the breakfasts are great. Most people stay for just a few days but we stay for 2 weeks.Rooms: Every room is different and all are well cared for and clean.Nearby activities: Mendocino and Fort Bragg are 20-25 minute magnificent drive along the coast. Navarro redwood forest near by.Safety: Very safe .Walkability: Beach access , walk to town.Food & drinks: Breakfast , large selection, fresh eggs from chickens on premises. Vegetables from organic garden. Victor is an amazing French chef!!
