Terrible food and not great customer service. We ordered fries which turned out to be awful so we asked for them to change them and they were just as bad the second time. The waiter was nice at first but when we tried negotiating different options instead of fries she was not very flexible and when we asked to speak to the manager, the waiter just started blaming us for not wanting the fries and saying we were to blame as we didn’t accept the fries the second time and saying we were wasting perfectly good food (obviously not true as they were terrible). The food is overall mediocre. See pictures and judge yourself. Do not recommend this place at all which is sad as the location is beautiful😓

The Basic Cabin does not have a separate toilet or bathroom, and guests must use a shared restroom. While the price level is similar to an inn, it should be thought of as a hostel. Below the inn, there is a stream, but I do not want to go near it as all the sewage from the inn flows into it. The Basic Cabin provides a shared kitchen and laundry facilities like a hostel, but the main difference is that you have to pay $10 to use them. During my two-night stay, there was a power outage on the first day, and I couldn't use the shower, restroom, or heating, but there was no notice to guests. When I finally met the manager (or owner) after knocking on the office door, there was no sign of apology or effort to address the situation regarding the minimum facilities for guests; I was simply told that there was nothing they could do because the power was out. I wouldn't discourage anyone from booking this place thinking of it as a hostel, but I wouldn't recommend it either.

Giving this place 5 stars, although we didn't eat there, here is why. Was on my way to Kings Canyon National Park and a winter storm was rolling in. We needed tire chains and stopped here for some but they were out. Chris who was there suggested that it may be dangerous to drive up and back to the park due to how bad the storm would be. He went out of his way to find an RV park for me to stay for the night, all this time knowing that I wasn't going to purchase any food, as I was not hungry. This is what you call great customer help, that's so greatly missing in our world now. Thanks Chris.

I stayed here on two occasions for work during the off-season. It was a convenient location near Sequoia/Kings Canyon park, and a wonderful bonus to have such a great restaurant attached, the only restaurant for miles. Restaurant serves "comfort food" which is delicious, and thankfylly some lighter menu items are also offered. Highly recommend the salmon and the locally made mead, especially the spicy pineapple one! The staff are incredibly friendly and went out of their way to be accommodating on several occasions. I felt very welcomed here. The rooms had a fair price, but were crammed with as many beds as possible, and had little in the way of aesthetics. During my first stay, the bathroom had not been cleaned, but the second stay felt cleaner, although the toilet needed repair. It was nice to have the small kitchenette, but would have been much improved to have a small table to sit to eat or to do my work, as the amenities did include wifi. I saw on few occasions mention of the historic nature of the motel. I would have loved to see this played out a bit more with the aesthetic, with some pictures on the walls, fewer beds to fit the space, and a small table with some chairs. Would have been happy to pay a bit more for some thoughtful touches.Nearby activities: Fairly close to Sequoia/Kings Canyon National Parks.Food & drinks: Delicious food!

My new #1...genas!No, its not a luxory resort nor a ecno resort. It doesn't fit into marriott or hilton catagories. But its freaking awasome. It serves the basic necessities of somewhere to get some sleep while traveling.Rooms are tiny. Large enough for a bag or 2, a bed (or 2) and a nightstand. Its not designed to cater to your homey feedings. There no open space concept or vaulted ceilings. Window dressings are not controlled with a remote. Walls are thin and its pretty cold this time of year. I opted for the private rooms cuz i have issues with public bathrooms in general. Otherwise, the bathroomless cabins would be fantastic as well. Love the idea of the communial kitchen/laundry. We didnt get to try out the restaurant as we arrived pretty late. Theres a nice sized creek flowing rapidly behind the cabins. Its lulled me to sleep. I think me and my kids will be back this summer with a tent. I would love to try that out! My only complaint/suggestion would be to address the flooding under the bathroom floor. It was either really recent or an ongoing flow, but water rides up threw the floor when stepped on. The idea of the toilet falling threw the floor was frequent. So maybe some light remodeling is in order. I would definitely opt in to make donations to that cause. I really enjoyed my stay and will return! Thanks again for everything!

I stayed in one of the rooms (not a shed). It was small and no frills. But it was clean and everything worked. The best mini fridge I've ever seen (the freezer was cold enough to make ice cubes!). The A/C was a workhorse that kept us comfortable. The onsite restaurant is a major bonus: good food and friendly staff. For the price, you'd be hard pressed to improve on this experience.Nearby activities: A short drive from the park entrance (Sequoia) and visitor center.

The hotel is located like 35ish minutes away from Kings Canyon NP and 1.5 hrs from Sequoia NP. The room rates are very reasonable, you get a nice clean room, a tv, bathroom and separate shower. If you are visiting in the early season (March) the rooms do get a little chilly, but they do supply a small heater for you to adjust the temperature and is completely adequate for the size of the room.

Gross just grossLook in all honesty if you’re picky with your coffee and food, this place is not for you. Greasy food, old coffee, super dark inside, etc4 coffees for $16.00…. Not lattes, or any sort of specialty coffee. It was plain old drip coffee.Only reason we stopped here was because the coffee shop down the street was closed.

The location and restaurant are great. However, room #3 is small and needs a total renovation. The queen sized bed was very bouncy and not comfortable. The mattress and pillows smelled of body odor. Also, the bathroom sink was dirty and did not drain properly. Because of these issues, we left after one night when we had reservations for two. The refrigerator and a/c worked well. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We ate 3 meals at the restaurant and they were all very good.Nearby activities: Great location for access to Kings Canyon and Sequoia National Parks.Food & drinks: The food was very good.

I liked my experience there, but you do need to research what you're getting yourself into:-the location is basically a repurposed campground without tents. What I mean by that is a majority of the rooms are converted sheds, the kitchen and bathing areas are communal, and the pool is basically a large bathtub with extra steps.- However, the diner and client experience were excellent, and once you get past the initial shock you'll be in for a great time.Don't let the rustic environment discourage you from going. Given the remote location, lack of internet in that part of the state, and distance from stores that provide the needed resources they did a excellent job with serving the customer's needs.

One of the closest motels to Kings Canyon entrance. Room was clean and tidy. Walls are paperthin so try to book room with only one neighbor. The Inn does have a restaurant with dinner. The food was OK, but nothing fancy. The is a cafe 1/4 mile down the road for breakfast. Winding road up to Kings Canyon park entrance is 30 minutes away.

We stayed at Gena’s as a stop-over as it is very close to Sequoia National Park. We enjoyed the service and food at the restaurant. The rooms are small (there’s no room for luggage), but they are clean and the shower worked well. We also appreciated the coffee an coffee machine in our room. Be aware that the walls are really thin though, so without earplugs you hear your neighbors and everything that goes on in front of the rooms, including the roaring sound of the heavy traffic that passes by at great speed. The airco in our room was also very loud. If I had known about the noise, I probably wouldn’t have booked. Then again, the price is reasonable for the location, the people are very friendly and the communication before our trip was excellent.

Cute little inn. Great proximity to Kings Canyon and Seqouia National Parks. The room was small but had everything we needed for a one night stay. The staff at check-in and the restaurant were friendly. The chicken fried steak, fish and chips, and brownie were all delicious! Highly recommend this place if you need a short stay right near the parks.

My family and I took a drive up to Gene's place for lunch. Always drive by never stop until today. Service was great our waitress was Sandie. Awesome service really was very friendly, took the time to answer questions about the area and just down to earth people, you don't find people like that anymore. Food was good and even met Jene on our way out. We will stop by again , thanks for everything Sandie !

So this restaurant is absolutely awesome exterior and historical. Very likely has some great bands that come by & play. However the service and food was not up to par. Both my guest & I waited two hours for our food. We were on our way up to the Sequoia's making a stop to grab a bite. It was as-if they forgot to put our order in. We enjoyed some beer but the food was not worth the wait needless to say. We ordered the garlic fries, there was no garlic on it. This place could use a little help but with great help it would be a great place. I could already see the potential.

Great place, cozy, vibe is good, music instruments guitar and piano for guests to try. Amazing food with extra large servings, bear the size in mind when you order. Had dinner there for two evenings in a row, try out super delicious steak, price is fair considering the size and taste. Great sauce, friendly host. Absolutely delicious dessert- brownie sundae. Super recommended (fyi, I never wrote google map comment this is my first)

Our rental car broke down on the way out of King's Canyon and we ended up here. It was the best thing that happened to us! They welcomed us in and we had the best meal I have eaten in a long time. Gena is the owner and cook. She came out and visited with us. I highly recommend the onion rings, strawberry shortcake and fried chicken. The vibe is very laid back here. They were even having a movie night for the hotel guests in the back courtyard. They asked us to stay and hang out while we waited for our car to be repaired. And we weren't even staying at the hotel. Next time we visit the park, we will definitely stay here. I can't imagine how good their breakfast is! Definitely worth a stop!! Make sure to say hi to the porch dog, he's adorable!

This place is fantastic. The owner is very kind. The food is wonderful and for the location, quite reasonably priced. The rooms are quaint and small. However, if all you’re doing is sleeping, they are fine. There’s a large outdoor eating and sitting area.If you get up early in the morning, you can hear the lions waking up at the sanctuary nearby. I think they want breakfast. The food is fantastic and the service friendly. Awesome Internet speed, which is good because we needed it after having no cell/wifi service in the parks.Rooms: Small clean quiet.

Excellent place to stay outside Kings Canyon/Sequoia National Park. Stayed in one of the cabins and it was perfect for the 4 of us. Had easy access to a kitchen area with a washer and dryer, and the bathrooms/showers were steps away. Everything was very clean. Gena and her staff were extremely helpful and friendly. I will stay here again in a heartbeat when I am in the area again!

I sort of want to sabotage this because given its combo of location, price, and amenities Gena's Inn is a gem! We stayed here one night before heading into King's Canyon. It is rustic and rooms basic, but very clean. I think sound could be an issue given how compact the rooms are, but I had earplugs and slept all night without being bothered by neighbors. Gena's staff is friendly and communicated well. Check in super easy. We also appreciated the free fresh coffee before heading out to the park. Thank you Gena's Inn!

Ordered 13$ avocado toast that came with mayonnaise (not mentioned on the menu). I have an allergy so I asked to have it remade and my friend would eat the other one. They made us pay for a second one and it was horrible for the price. Raw avocado on toasted bread that took 20 minutes to make (we were the only people in there). The young lady at the cash register was a doll, but the cooks / older ladies in the back were unfriendly. Bummed with the experience.

We had a great one-night stay recently. It was the off-season, so the rate was the cheapest anywhere in the area. Very basic accommodations, but that was perfect for us. We were there to explore the parks, not stay in a hotel room the whole time. And an added bonus is the very nice pets that roam the property (say hi to Patsy for us!). Would gladly stay here again, hopefully during the travel season so we can try out the restaurant next time.

I stayed at the Inn without eating at the restaurant, so this review is focused on the Inn. The door works on a pass code that the Inn texts you a head of time, getting in and getting out was very easy. The rooms technically had the necessary amenities. Mini fridge, microwave, sink, toilet, shower, bed, & coffee maker. The rooms are small, works well for 2 people. Everything was just a little bit broken. The AC is a wall unit that's very loud, the shower head doesn't swivel (good luck tall or short people), the tiny counter in the bathroom was falling out of the wall, the bathroom door barely closed due to so many layers of paint, the road noise is very loud, and the ceiling fan struggled. So the rooms need some attention. They do provide free earplugs, and if the little coffee maker in your room doesn't work then the restaurant does have complementary coffee for people staying at the Inn. The staff are very friendly, and so is the roaming kitty. It's very close to SEKI. The drive in and out of the park was relatively quick and easy. There's also a gas station very close to the Inn that has a little grocery mart.Location great, rooms need some improvement. I'd rather try to get a campground in the park next time.Rooms: The door works on a pass code that the Inn texts you a head of time, getting in and getting out was very easy. Gena’s Sierra InnDelicious breakfast burrito at the attached restaurant and it is large enough for most people to share. The room was clean and cozy, however, don’t have high expectations. We often stay at Motel (5+1) or Super (7+1), so our expectations were a little high. It is very close to King’s Canyon. There was not a deadbolt or any other way to secure the door.

Gena's was the perfect place for me and my team. We got a generous discount because of our service work in the area, but the staff still really took care of us. They were super quick to respond with any questions throughout our 5 week stay. The tiny home rooms were super cozy and the location was amazing! Couldn't be better placed for Kings Canyon trips!
