I went for the shrimp grits appetizer and side salad which I had enjoyed greatly in the past. The dish has become too spicy for my liking. The salad greens were old and ought have been compost. What infuriated me, however, was the nerve of the server who after asking what the eight dollars were about on the tray, and told it was her tip, she charged an additional $8 on my debit card when I paid, without my permission. The food was lousy and the service lousy and entitled.I will never return and suggest you don't go either.

It took an hour and 1/2 to get mediocre cold French fries and a salad. Every meal at our table was served with cold fries. We sat with empty drink glasses for the majority of the time there. The waiter was snippy and not friendly and passed by our table several times, avoiding eye contact. The restaurant was busy but not so full that that kind of service was excusable. This is a roadside trap don't fall for it. If the proprietor happens to read this, don't worry about doing better next time because there won't be one and anyone in my group of 20 plus people that come to Duncan Mills 4 times a year won't be back. Additionally the bathroom was not properly taken care of.Parking: The parking lot is shared with a bunch of little stores and is very tight.

Great food, indoor & outdoor seating, friendly staff, nice decor, quick service, and awesome background music. I had the beef burger w/pepper jack cheese and bacon. Wife had the Caponata & Swiss sandwich. We both had fries, she drank their iced tea while I had a sprite. Everything was really good and I would recommend going here instead of any of those places right off of hwy 1. We will be back for breakfast next time we pass through the area.

I would say 4.5 ⭐️We had the Salmon-Crab cake salad, a French toast and a burger with fries and a cup of clam chowder. Our order took a long time to get served. I would stay inside next time if ever, it has better atmosphere and decor than the back patio. The servers are good at what they do and they make your visit worthwhile. The crab cake was a little bland but wasn’t bad at all.

Sometimes you wonder what it’s like to be in West Virginia. Stuck on a small country road looking for food. Realize that you don’t need to be at all. It’s not terribly hospitable. But if you want your flavor mouth to be filled with joy, do yourself a favor, and take yourself on over to Cape Fear cafe.If you want something that is going to be delicious and generally positive beyond your expectations — basically, the opposite of West Virginia — spend your money at this restaurant. We enjoyed such delights as fried oysters, Fish and Chips and rare delicacy, Clam Chowder. Interesting, my wife and I had had clam chowder from an establishment down the road just the night before. The chowder at Cape Fear cafe proverbially and literally—blew it out of the water.Really liked the food, would spend my clams there again.

Cape Fear was a unexpected surprise. Have driven past Duncan Mill numerous times over the decades and never stopped.Very down to earth feeling, nice people, and excellent food. Truly excellent.Worth a stop for sure if you're out for the day on the coast near Jenner and Bodega. Even if you're not heading up the Russian River it's worth the short detour.

Holy peanut sauce!! 😱 The Thai noodles - HUGE PORTION - were amazing!! And the burger was on-point with sweet potato fries. Everything is made fresh to order so be prepared to wait if it’s really busy. Outdoor patio and indoor dining available. They serve tea from right next door and have Bella Rosa coffee. A must in Duncans Mills!

Very cute old-time atmosphere and they also have outdoor seating. We ate here twice during our 4 night local stay. Everything we had was amazing. Shrimp and Grits was definitely the best I've had outside of New Orleans. It was spicy but even I could handle it (I don't usually tolerate spicy) and I ordered it both nights! The hamburger was terrific, as was their Mahogany Pork (which was a special but they also have Mahogany Chicken which is probably just as good). We also had the Walnut Crusted Goat Cheese which was an amazing appetizer, but could also be a dessert.

Eggs were cooked correctly and the country sausage was delicious. The toast was cold and the potatoes were both over and under done. Staff was very friendly and the location was beautiful.

Excited to have stumbled across this spot while staying in Monte Rio. Ordered the Clam Chowder, Ginger Chicken Salad, and Fried Oyster Poor Boy for takeout. Everything was delicious! Would like to come back and dine on the patio hopefully over the weekend.

This was our first time there for breakfast and it was absolutely delicious. The staff and service couldn't be beat. There was a guy there we believe was the owner. What a character and very entertaining! We will be back!I don't see what we had down below. I believe my wife had Strawberry Waffle, eggs, bacon, orange juice and coffee. I had Ham&Eggs, potatoes, toast and coffee. All very good.

Well made breakfast but delivered warm not hot. Surprising considering the restaurant was not busy. Guess I can assume labor shortages like everywhere else. Flavor was very good though.

Great food, busy restaurant. They offer an outdoor dining experience in the back that allows you to bring your dog.

All part of Duncans, Mills, and very small Qwaint group of stores and one little restaurant if you’re coming out this way great place for lunch the food was great a little short on the service because of their location and it’s hard to find employees these days the owner and his staff work very very hard and put out a great product Enjoyed ourselves very much. I had a grilled chicken sandwich that was amazing. The salad was great that came with it. My friend Mike had fish and chips. He didn’t say a word for half an hour so busy eating. Tandoori chicken sandwich for my wife and quote her. It was amazing.

The food was delicious, and service was friendly! There was one issue that got on my nerves pretty good though. We each had a coffee. I believe the server asked us if we'd like a "refill", though I could be wrong about that specific wording. They took our mugs, still with a bit of coffee left, and brought them back about 3/4 full. When the bill came, we were charged for 4 coffees, $4.25 each, $17.I haven't been out to breakfast much since 2020, so I may be out of the loop here. Are breakfast restaurants not generally giving free coffee refills anymore? I think $4.25 is already on the high end for drip coffee. If the price is per-cup, they should give it in a new mug full of coffee, and I wish there was some kind of hint or warning that the second cup isn't a free refill.

Very friendly and polite staff..old school sincerely polite attitude.. awesome. Bread, oil, vinegar plus salad served ahead of entrees... entrees pretty good. But...it took a good 40 minutes before salad was served and another half hour before entrees were served. Perhaps the kitchen staff was short-handed the night we dined. Restaurant was probably 1/3 full when we were seated and 2/3 full when we left. Other tables food orders appeared to take a very long time from order to see delivery.

I had a really tasty omelette here for Sunday brunch. There was a very short wait and the food came out quickly! My omelette was delicious. The service was great and they treated my dog well.

I had an awesome baked veggie panini with home made focaccia bread with a bit of pepper Jack cheese. Delicious and perfect eating on the back patio. The main waiter was pretty busy but very accommodating. I will return.Vegetarian options: Their menu is well marked for dietary restrictions and they are good with modifying.Parking: I was there mid week and there was plenty of parking.Kid-friendliness: Kids are welcome

What a disappointing lunch! Not sure what was worst, the service or the food? Let's start with the food. I ordered the Grilled Tandoori Chicken Breast sandwich. It sounded delicious, however it was so incredibly spicy hot that I could not eat it. After the first bite my mouth burned the rest of the meal. I had my husband try it, who can stand a lot more heat than me, and he couldn't even eat it. I've had tandoori chicken many times, and never before has it been to spicy that I could not eat it. So, I was left with having the salad that came with the sandwich and the piece of Grilled Wheat Toast served with my husband's meal. That piece of bread didn't seem quite grilled, toasted, or browned in any way, but rather like it was just left under a heat lamp too long to just dry it out.Now you might wonder why we didn't bring this to our server's attention? That is because we only saw him twice, once to take our order and once to drop off our food. He then disappeared for the rest of meal and beyond. After waiting for too long, we had to go to the counter and ask for our check.

I’ve lived in the area for decades and Cape Fear was for many of those years my favorite restaurant. I would call ahead to make sure that my favorite chef was there. In the past couple years I have eaten there 5 or 6 times and have been disappointed in the food for one reason or another. Unfortunately it is not great these days. Service has been great but I can’t continue to pay for disappointing meals.

A charming cafe with plenty of options. The service was friendly and the food was fantastic. They have a great selection of loose-leaf teas that warm the soul. The food portions were huuuge and its all so tasty! The side salad came with homemade balsamic to die for. The bread was warm and soft. For entrées my girlfriend had the ribeye. The gorgonzola butter it came with was to die for! I got the seafood hotpot and it was amaaaazing! So many clams in a buttery flavorful sauce.
