Amazing little gem! Feels like your literally camping on the river as you can hear it roaring through your room!! And our host Lydia was so sweet and kind and went above and beyond to make us feeling safe and comfortable. We will definitely be back!!!!Rooms: Our room had two bedrooms one for me and one for my friend and we had a huge long kitchen window that over looked the river.Walkability: Easy walk to restaurant, bars and shops.Food & drinks: Great ice cream shop in town and an excellent Mexican restaurant!

Probably hands down the BEST hotel we have stayed in in a long time!!! Super amazing friendly staff they even left us personal notes and cookies my husband loved!! They had dim lighting, and nice music even playing when we walked in! It's right on the river, bed and sheets were so soft and comfortable they had a heater and fireplace in the room. The hotel was absolutely phenomenal we will definitely be back!! Thank you so much!!!!! Everything is walking distance too and the people in the town are the nicest people you will ever meet and the scenery is spectacular I felt like I was in a movie when I was there and didn't want to leave so peaceful. Thank you!!!!!! Definitely book it!!! :)

Great people and a great little community. I wish I could have stayed more than just one night and I love how Sonja and Lydia are branding Downieville as a new Sierra foothill destination. I strongly recommend staying with them--it's an experience more than just a stay.

Nice place in need of some maintenance. We were the only ones there and it still took 20 minutes to check us in. And then the receipt said 140 balance due, but I paid that in cash. Don't plan on using the heater, there are no instructions on how to manually light it and unless you are familiar with these, it's not going to happen. First you have to turn on the thermostats, then open the heater door and light. If you close the door it turns off.

A bucket list stay for anyone who really appreciates Northern California and its historyI finally got to stay at this hotel with my mom and my dog 🐕 yes, the dog fee was $40 but it came with a doggy bed, treat and a blanket. The room was spacious enough (we had King bed) and the bathroom is nice as well. Private balcony to a river front is just perfect. And you are right in the heart of the town.We truly loved our stay and I can not wait to return.

I've been staying at the Riverside Inn for over 15 years. It was always a little long in tooth (in a charming way) but the incredible location on the confluence of the Downieville and the N Yuba, free breakfast (with smoked salmon), and the kind and interesting innkeepers Mike and his wife made this place a perennial favorite.Today I wanted to get a head start on reserving a couple mountain biking weekends this summer in D-ville and was shocked to discover the rooms at Riverside Inn are now $200+ a night (In their defense, I understand there are some new taxes). Looking at some old emails I paid $135/night in 2020 and $115/night in 2018.I know that inflation has affected a lot of small business owners and that costs have risen. But $200/night for The Riverside Inn is absolutely nuts- oh it's called the Mountain Lodge now - guess they had to change the name after throwing up some dollar store kitschy decorations and an ugly new retro sign to make it more "hip."I suppose this is what happens when you have one person come in and buy all the hotels in town. They can set the rates as high as they want. I'll be investigating some other options. I don't give my business to price gougers.Edit: The owner's nice as pie response is a ruse. Don't believe it. There are no rooms starting at $119. And these people bought the Riverside Inn, the Carriage House, and some other real estate in town.

We had a horrible time here. ;-) After an unplanned vacation, Sandy...the manager, was horribly kind and got us this room--spur of the moment--with the worst view ever, I mean, who wants to walk out their door onto a private deck and see untamed beauty? We slept unsoundly because someone in town forgot to turn the roaring Yuba river off at night. What kind of service is that? Once I fell asleep, with the door open, I've never slept so hard. The rude Sandy referred us to a great Mexican restaurant where we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. He also pressured us to come have an after dinner drink with him and his girlfriend Sarah...we reluctantly did, and met many locals. They even called our name out like we were at CHEERS, when we walked in. Such an unfriendly crowd. In all seriousness, this was the best part of our three day trip. I loved the owners, managers, and housecleaners. The rooms were spotless, comfortable, and perfect. Just what we needed in this beautiful setting. The small town is friendly, and exactly what your looking for when wanting to escape city life. Please embrace the kindness this small rural town has to offer. It's a place to disconnect from technology, look people in the eyes, and slow down. This inn is what you're looking for, if trying to connect with nature at your front door. Mike and Sandy...thank you. We'll be back.Rooms: The rooms were quiet and clean.Walkability: Could walk to everything.Noteworthy details: The view, right on the river was stunning.

Beautifully rustic rooms! Rustic look but comfortable with some modern touches.Ceiling fans and cute little electric fireplace heaters to keep you comfortable in summer or winter. Sleeping with windows/doors open (the screen doors lock) when weather allows, let’s the sound of the river lull you to sleep. Hands down my favorite place to get away, and I’ve visited numerous times! Great for a romantic getaway or a girls wknd!!! Can’t wait to go back♥️

Right on the river and in downtown area. Rooms are comfy and clean. Contactless check in and they respond quick to text or calls. If you care about seeing and hearing the river from your room at the cheapest price in town this is the place to be. Although they didn't have coffee makers in the rooms they give you a free coupon for the coffee shop in town.Walkability: Just a few blocks to downtown

Very clean rooms.Because of Covid office is not open, but they are very accommodating and quickly answer texts if you need anything!! They even text you with local happenings and to make sure if you need anything!! Room walls are knotty pine and beautiful!! Loved being able to sit on our balcony & watch the river!! In fact,we had our screen door opened all night to hear the river sounds! Highly recommend staying here!! Close to walk to downtown !!

The lodge is in a fantastic location, right in downtown but just out of the way enough, the rooms are wonderful and even with the river as high as it is, and the balconies right above it, it's just a pleasantly dull roar with the door closed, perfect for sleeping to, and Eternal Scouts, Shadow Scouts and Light Scouts should note it's probably great for clandestine and covert shadow government or non government meetings and rendezvous of all sorts. The only major drawback might be accessibility since the rooms are on the 2nd floor and parking is down a hill from where a wheelchair would access that floor.

Charming, clean, cozy rooms with flannel sheets, big pillows, a good bed and the best location right on the river. It was snowy outside and the office was closed to walk in traffic but the envelopes with keys and check in information was right outside. They had peanut butter cookies in each room along with a fridge and a microwave. Would stay here again for sure.

A quaint lodge owned by a delightful couple. We stayed in Room 1 - I'm told it's the best of the lot. It has two front doors - yup, that's a specialty. If you are with a group - play a game: always open the other door and watch the visitor get confused and apologetic!! Cheap thrills! The sound of the river just below the window is like a lullaby - if you are a light sleeper, you can be assured to be woken up by birds. It's just wonderful.I took a star off because the bathtub fixture is past its end-of-life it needs to be replaced. Period. If I read a future review saying "all good with Rm 1 bathtub" - I'll revise my ⭐-rating.Will I go back? Yes for sure.

Some kind of new pet restrictions is making a return visit to this place an unfortunate no go. Sad that a bad experience for this establishment from one pet owner has to ruin it for all other responsible pet owners. They even refused a fully trained and licensed service animal, a real gentle, mild mannered, children loving pet, whose presence comforts my friend who is dealing with lung cancer and though her treatment is sidetracked for a bit is trying her best to enjoy life to its fullest. A trip here would of surely fit that bill.

I love this little place. Our room was small but more than sufficient. King sized bed was VERY comfortable. The river view from the balcony deck I'd unbeatable. I highly recommend a stay if you are in the area.

We are repeat customers and wouldn't stay anywhere else. The rooms offer well-appointed homey comfort and are very clean. Fall asleep to the sound of the Downie River rushing past under your balcony and wake up to a continental breakfast. Owners Mike and Nancy Carnahan provide very attentive customer service, genial conversation, and lots of good tips on local activities. Highly recommended.

Clean and cosy. Situated in one of the most picturesque towns in CA. River location was awesome. Having a kitchen was a great asset along with breakfast included in the morning. Fishing in the river outside with my son was like shooting fish in a barrel. Loved it.

Rather it be a quiet getaway or involvement in one of the shindigs in Downieville - this is the place you want to stay! Clean, quiet, and accommodating with ten stars on each category. Proprietors Nancy and Mike made me feel right at home the very first time I was here about five years ago and have never ever considered staying anywhere else, visiting dozens of times! You are the boss - rather it be quiet relaxation time as most rooms come with an open outdoor balcony of their own, literally on top of the river! Or if its something in town that interests you - a thirty second walk over a bridge separates you from a bar and grill, hardware store, convenience store, gas station and more right on the confluence of two rivers; the Downie and the Yuba's North Fork. A setting rich in California history, nestled away in the heart of gold country, I have never been bored of researching this beautiful place and having a comfortable place tostay is number one on my list. The Riverside Inn checks all the boxes as far as making me feel at home and if a morning riser before 9 - be sure to stop in the clubhouse for breakfast. Not only is the food fresh and delicious, the only thing that may get heavy are the tales in abundance being hurled around the room as the owners will sit right with you and make sure the coffee is fresh and warm, and are truly interested in making your stay a special good time to remember. And if there is something that you need and dont see it - then all you have to do is ask. They have gone out of their way for me more than once but remember Downieville is a long way from any urban situation so requests must kept realistic. I found that for me I come prepared with ice chest packed with my favorite beverages and meats of my choice to BBQ on the many gas grills offered outside so I can eat when I want and if its work i need to get done - I set up my own work station in my room with Wifi always available to assist. I tried staying at lot of places before I kind of backed into this one by mistake. It has turned out to be one of the best mistakes I ever made! You cannot go wrong staying here for whatever it is you came here for -- unless of course its noise and wall to wall people! Will stay here religiously until I die or the ownership changes!

Rooms are great. They were clean the beds are very comfortable. They even provided make-up wipes. The only thing I didn't like was the office was always closed.

Very Very Disappointed. My wife and I had made reservations 7 WEEKS PRIOR for room #11 (the end room), they emailed us just three days prior to our stay saying that they moved us into another room to accommodate for another person. They ruined our vacation plans so some one else could extend their stay in room 11.They should have done the RIGHT thing and said sorry that room is not available for extended stay and should have moved THEM and not ruinedour vacation plans. Room 11 is sentimental to Tracie (my wife) and I.We no longer will be returning customers. VERY Disappointed indeed.
